I had my hands on Palm Treo 800w. It shows the date and time in large letters when the phone is locked (like some mobile phones). this done by having the text showing with the backlight off.
anyway, I like the idea of having the clock and time with the backlight off. this means I can pull the phone out and tell the time without having to turn on the phone. is there anyway of doing that on the Treo 750?

I just upgraded (I think) from the Blue Angel to the Apache, I'm having a real hard time getting used to a few things, the most important of which is the Phone. Is there a way to easily cusomize the phone layout screen to show the Speed Dial button without having to press Menu? This is very distracting to do while driving..
Thanks
Andrew
i was looking at that on the apache today too, and that's really annoying. mine just sits there so i haven't tried too hard, but all i got was the menu then speed dial as well.
a prophet review somewhere said the same thing, so i guess its a WM5 thing, as mine is qwest/sprint and his is an imate
Hi,
I'm considering buying a WM5 device but I heard it doesn't allow configuring the Standby screen which is always dead blank. What I need to be shown there is 1) Clock; 2) received texts and 3) missed calls. Like in Nokia/Sony Ericsson mobiles. Any ideas how it can be achieved? By a registry hack or a custom application?
Thanks
Well, in a way WM5 devices do have configurable stand-by screen.
Before I start, do you have experience with a Windows phone before? If not, you may not able to understand something I will be saying. Others members, please leave your comments.
Anyway, for WM5, you can configure your Todayscreen to display everything that you've mentioned below (or more, see some of the Today screen that other posted). Then, you can use this today screen as your 'stand-by screen', of which you need to (screen) lock your phone (using one of the Today's plugins). If you were to unlock your buttons, with screen lock, you can have your phone, press any button to wake the phone up to display the Today screen with all the infor you want. Feasible.
Easier, just wake it and sleep it using your power button. Just a button click away.
Thanks, Hanmin. Well, "Just a button click away" is exactly what I want to avoid. Standby for me means when it's not in use, some screensaver gets invoked. And in some phones, this can be configured to show the details I need (clock, texts and calls), in others it is just dead blank and requires this very "button click" to show the required info. Seems like WM5 devices fall into the second category which is not what I need. But as it has a highly configurable OS, I thought I could find a way to make it show it anyway. So my question is: I have a WM5 phone which I put on the desk and don't use it for, say, 5 or 10 minutes. It is in a silent mode so I don't hear a noise and I don't feel a vibe. But I look at it once in a while to see if there's any news or just to check the time. So how can I do this last thing without actually touching the phone?
p.s.I do have an Axim which isn't really a phone but based on WM5 anyway.
Well.. hmm.. come to think of it.. depends on if you are in ext power. Since you have a Dell PDA with you, you ought to try keeping the unit on while on external power (e.g. on your table), it should gives you the Today screen without the backlight. And you can have a big Today clock whihc you can see without backlight.
If you are on battery, you ought to able to get your notifications via the LEDs (depending on your phone, Charmer doesn't seem to be able to do that). So, you will know if anything happens by looking at the LEDs, but you won't be able to read the clock on it (wear a watch )
Thanks again, Hanmin. Yes, this is what I was originally told. I just thought you folks are experts in mobile Windows so you may know how to tweak it. Like in normal Windows you can do pretty much anything with the OS, I hoped the same is with its younger sibling. I am planning at some stage to get closer involved with this particular version but for now just needed an expert advice. Thanks!
Dear All,
As like Treo Pro on displaying Time and Date while at screen off mode, can it be applied on Treo 750V as well?.
i'm interesting with this menu. Could anyone give me link for that kind of software?
Thanks id advance
For describtion as you can see the screenshot on Treo PRo
I two would like this.
I doubt this is possible.. ..the Treo Pro has the time screen when the device is in standby. The 750's screen is turned off completly in stanbye mode. I can imagine a program that shows the time during standbye by keeping the device alive all the time.
The result would be that the Treo 750 is drained even more. Now who could live with that?
Hey everyone, there's no dedicated Treo 700 thread so I hope it's alright to post it here.
Phone: Palm Treo 700wx
Carrier: Sprint
OS: WM5. No custom ROMs, only few applications/programs.
OK, here’s the story: I’m studying for finals when I pick up my phone to check the time. I press the End key, screen doesn’t light up. I press the Windows key, nothing. I press any key, no life.
So I take out the battery and pop it back in. TREO screen comes on, but the bar on the bottom doesn’t load. I left it alone for 10 minutes, it’s still on the TREO screen. I tried everything but a hard reset, because I don’t know what does.
Is the phone officially dead?
What does a hard reset do? Erase everything? (Calendar events, contacts, pics/files on phone?)
Hello all,
I'm hoping this can be fixed, for my fiancée's sake, as she has alot of pictures and videos of our little boys when they were born and can't be replace on her Treo 750v, unlocked via code from Voda, it's still running WM5.
It started when she was sending a text, press sent, and randomly, parts of the list of messages starting turning into blanks, around that time it popped up saying low on memory, she deleted a installer cab for facebook, and the little busy circle appeared but did nothing and crashed the phone, so she took the battery out, put it back in and now all it does is boot with the Palm logo, goes onto the Windows Mobile splash screen then blank, pressing red brings the keyboard light on and makes the key sound, but doesn't do anything, all with the blank screen. The orange light flashs for loss of signal constantly, but the red charge light doesn't come on at all, and ActiveSync doesn't pick up anything. I can boot into the bootloader screen, which behaves as it should, getting picked up by windows. I have tried itsutilsbin, but does nothing as ActiveSync isn't initiated to try and pull the files off the device. And Google has only so much information.
So I'm pleading (nicely ) is there anyway to get files off a semi-bricked Treo? I am competent playing and messing around with flashing and upgrading, and willing to try anything to get all the files off it.
Hope someone can help!
how many photos can you fit on a palm without a memory card cant to much can it. Well have you tried ringing palm and ask them if they have data recovery. there is one very very very long shot like 1% chance that it will work and do not do this if you can not find a data recovery program for the palm is hard reset it if you can then run the data recovery software. I do repeat 1%!!!!!!!!!!!!! I say ring palm see what they say.
