Hi ... i want to know if is posible how to dump a rom from my htc polaris.
and if some one know why mi SHDC 8Gb Trascend give me some problems about write or read between the PDA and the PC by de USB cable, or also with the TotalCommander inside the PDA, with a 2Gb i was the some problem, but with the Windows Explorer in the PDA i not have these problem.
Thanks a lot every all.
When transferring data from FAT32 (I think you can transfer up to about a gig when formatted in FAT 32, correct me if i'm wwrong though ...) formatted devices there is a data limit that NTFS does not suffer from, i don't know if the cruise can accept a NTFS formmated card, but it may be worth a try.
Ok .. i formated the microSD on FAT32 in my Windows Vista ... and .. the problem is when i want to transfer any file of any size from the PC to the PDA across the USB and Active Sync or the new Active Sync on Vista.
Also if i copy a file from the microSD to the main memory with the totalcommander it give a error, just if i use the Windows Explorer that came on the PDA to move or copy file inside the PDA beteween the microSD and e main memory i not have an error.
This problem i have also with a 2Gb microSD.
If i put the microSD on the laptop or desktop, with the adapter i can move, copy, etc.etc. with not problem.
Some one know about dump a room from the PDA to can have a backup to reflash to can execute de warranty on the telco ?.
Thanks alot against
i tried formatin on NTFS but in this file system the phone do not see the card
why not just format the sd from the touch cruise?

hello..i want to ask u guys about the SD ..
someone told me that the SD will not work in any other device but the u r using..
is that true?
thx
well no unless you are somehow using the nativ encryption in the card then unless the password or whatever are using the card cant be used never heard anybody using it though
so if i changed my device (i'm using an i-mate) in the futrue to nokia or whteer can i still use the same SD ?
yep the nokia of cause would not be able to read ½ the data if it was written for the imate
i mean if it was like that there would be no such thing as a sdcard reader which many of us use to get data to the sdcards
Yeah in your case the different operating systems from iMate and Nokia means the data (files saved) on the SD card would be different but the SD hardware is compatible to both.
That allows us to use more than one card in our digicams, ppc's etc and swap them around as we like.
Ed
ok what can i do to get my data saved on the SD (from the i-mate) on other operating systems ?
even the images like JPG won't work?
thx
I'd suggest you could try to copy the files you want from the SD card to your PC, then format the SD card in your new device, then copy the files back to the SD.
Ed
so lets say my i-mate is broken.,,
and i havn't copy my data to the pc..
and try to put the sd on other device...will it work?
even if its on a ppc?
If the device you try to read it in has the same operating system as the device which write to the SD in the first place then yes. For example I'm pretty sure any PPC will read an SD card written to by another PPC.
Or if it was written to by a PPC then you can also read it in a windows based PC using an SD card reader.
Ed
aha..
but i don't think that the data like JPG's and AVI's , MPEG's....etc will not work?
will it work?
and thx again
After I successfully backup my O2 Mini existing ROM to the SD Card by the romupdate.exe. I used the ntrw.exe to convert the Image in the SD card to my computer. However, when i excute the command
> ntrw read backup.nb1 X:/
it return the followings..
>could not open backup.nb1 -- the volume does not contain a recognized file system. Pleas make sure that all requited file system drivers are loaded and that the colume is not corrupted.
I have tried other card reader (both 1.1 and 2.0) other computer and other SD card ( i am using LEXAR and Kingston 256 ) but the problem exists.
and the romupdate said the d2s command was success.
Why will it happen and
What can i do to fix this problem????
Thanks for your help....
use the command without the latest "/"
ntrw read backub.nb1 X:

OS: WinXP (NTFS)

I am sure i have enough HD space as well as the SD Card
I am using LEXAR and Kingston 256 SD, both ain't work
Thanks~~
You need to use a card reader and the drive X: should be the drive XP allocates to the SD card slot on your reader.
XP Assigns my SD reader to I: unless you have a lot of network drives on your PC it should be somewhere. The card needs to be in the card reader slot obviously and not the PDA.
I am also assuming that you are trying to write the Rom to your hard drive and not writing it back to the SD?
Hi there, looking at the dos screen you took, its telling you that you have already a file with that name in the folder. look, delete that file... and then try again... i had that problem yesterday. Now im struggling to upload the rom.
by wrong command also, it creates the nb1 file. so do DIR and see that .nb1 with 0 bytes will be there. delete it and try again!

My friend just got TOPRAM 2GB miniSD and we try to setup his Wizard.
When I want to format (using card reader) this miniSD, should I choose FAT or FAT32 ?
Also is it possible to format card in Wizard itself and how ?
Thanks

software to format your card in your wizard
You can also access your storage card thru my computer. it will show up as a device with removable storage. use wm5torage.
You can use either FAT or FAT32, it doesn't matter. The wizard can read both of them. I always format my cards in a card reader because wizards sometimes have a problem seeing unformatted cards and you wont be able to access your card at all. To format format the card I always go through disk management in computer management under administrative tools in the control panel. If I remember right, if you just right click on the card in the card reader and then click on format it only gives you the option of FAT where disk management will give you the FAT32 option as well.
The reason I was asking is because I was able to format miniSD in card reader both FAT and FAT32 and put some data (CABs) to it using "My Computer", but ... when I try to install some CABs from that miniSD ... it just hangs.
So I was thinking ... may be it is because of wrong format. Now I believe that problem is in miniSD itself, because I was able to install same CABs from my other card.
You might try reformatting in FAT and see how that works. I've tried both on mine and there never seems to be much of a noticable difference. I've read that it might make a difference on older ROM versions. It deffinitely can't hurt anything to convert it to FAT and try again before giving up on the card.
I tried both FAT and FAT32 on BOTH cards. They all failed, both in very strange way ... I was able to read/write to the card using "My Computer". I was able to see files using Wizard "Explorer", but when I click CAB installation will start and then hang. Or one CAB will install, but second will hang.
Unpredictable
Both cards are miniSD 2GB from TopRam, from eBay power seller.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you putting the cab files on your card and then installing them from there or are you putting the cab files in the \windows\start menu\programs and and then when they install you're choosing to have them install to the card and then they are failing? If it's the first one I mentioned, that might be the problem right there. I'm not so sure that SD cards are really made to be read from and written to at the same time and putting the cab files in the \windows\start menu\programs folder and installig from there would solve that issue. If it's the second one I mentioned, it might just be the programs that you're installing. I've had issues with several programs that when I tried to install them to my card they hung up and ended up actually corrupting my card. The fact that you have 2 cards doing the exact same thing makes me think that it may not be the cards that are at fault.

Im just guessing that you are using a ROM which uses mUn's latest 5.2.1413 as base. If that is the case, heres what i reccomend. Go back to a previous ROM which maybe uses mUn's previous release or farias rom as a base.
Why u ask? I have noticed that with ROM ver .1413, i either lose or see corrupt info on the SD card which on first boot is readable for a few minutes/seconds, but after i change the OS to say core 2.0 fior example, everything is back to normal on my SDcard.
I noticed this because just as u, i was trying to install some cabs off the card, the first was successful and the others just did nothing, on closer scrutiniy (tried playing songs stored on SD) i noticed that some files were missing and others corrupt.
just my advice, hope it works for u...
P.S. Everything was back to normal (all info was fine on SD) after going back to a previous version of OS
Hi guys, I've got my asus for half a year and now I'm having some trouble. I'm using 4GB non-SDHC miniSD card, but when I put card in nothing happends and PDA doesn't find card. When i connect PDA to PC ant turn into "Card reader mode" everything works. Card is OK. Card format is FAT32 and to WM is oficial WM6 ROM
Try to format it to FAT16 instead...
Don't know if it'll help but it's worth a try, I always use FAT16 in my phones because I think it gives better performance.
Still same problem...
Now I'm trying this tool to format http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html maybe it will fork
Everything works fine after fullformat with Panasonic SDFormatter
change the usb connect mode to "AS"mode. ok?
Hi people I have a big issue...
...After I flashed a new ROM on my Polaris, if I browse to my storage card for unbackup my data the storage card results with no file but the it's no empty but no files are shown... Even on my computer the Memory Card is half full but there's no file inside... Using recovery data software the problem cannot be solved...
Please help me
Thank you guys
put the card in a sdcard reader and use any undelete tool for windows (this is where you find one using google) it works on sdcards just like it does on harddisks
I did It with several software and with microSD-SD adapter or microSd-USB adapter but only few useless file are displayed... it says that there's 2gb of free space but no files are displayed...
im pretty sure that leaving the sd card in while flashng isnt recommended
unless ur flashing from card and i didnt think that that was possiible
