I've been working around the light sensor and with the available reg. hacks on this forum. I could not find anything that could make a difference.
Is it for real this sensor? I tried to focus a strong light towards the sensor and other times remove the light, the dimming and the device light is just the same!
I reckon technecally the light sensor should dim under high light beam and back to normal under dim light surroundings!
Works on mine. You definitly have it turned on in the power settings? I find it works best if you put your finger over sensor in bright light.
Thanks for the tip. But couldn't figure out anything that could've worked! Could you be more specific? BTW the settings under "Power" is all to default.
under Start>settings>system>power>backlight tick the box 'Auto adjust backlight'

Hello everybody. Firstly I'd like to sorry but my English is poor. Ok, so what's going on? One day I saw that 4 touch buttons don't have backlight. So I tought it could be that light sensor. I've gone to the display settings and I set up auto brightness. And nothing has changed... No matter where I go, brightness doesn't change at auto. And this no backlight of 4 touch buttons... My question is: what it could be? What is wrong with my HTC? Could it be software issue or rather hardware?
the autobrightness setting your messing with is for the backlight of the screen, not the 4 buttons. as for the 4 buttons, what kernel and rom are you on? newer xe kernels have brightness setting for the buttons (if its bright outside itll turn off, if its dark then itll turn on). does the backlight of the 4 buttons never work or just sometimes?
I use stock 1.50~~ ROM with stock htc kernel. Sometimes (as now for example) 4 buttons backlight works, sometimes not, it's lottery... Now there is working also light sensor. I woke up today and it has been working, but since monday to yesterday it didn't work. Strange issue...
Try check tour sensors with androsensor from Market/Google Play.
It shows you whats sensors do work.
Light sensor is at the top left hand side of the phone at the front beside the speaker. Put your thumb over it and see if the buttons light up. If they do light sensor is working!
My sensors are still not working to all the time.
I did edit the build.prop with this line at the botten:
ro.mot.buttonlight.timeout=0
Reboot 2x
Wich helped .
But now its gone again,it drives me nuts
There is shortcut for light sensor check, for example on Samsung i9001 I can use *#*#0588#*#* - Proximity sensor test
hope this can help

And what should happen ?
Tried it,nothing.
Thanks tho.
Do you have it in a case? I put mine in a gel case and although it didn't appear to block the sensor I was finding that when I finished a call the screen didn't light up again. I trimmed the case so that it had much more clearance around the sensor and it works well now.

Is your proximity sensor working during calls?
Not for me
(Ps.factory reset in total dark worked till reboot)
Did anyone figure this out?
I bought a used phone for a great price but my light sensor and proximity sensor dont work. Confirmed with androsense.
I would really like to just have the buttons light up all the time when the screen is on. Anyone know how to make that possible?
I have checked on an app and it confirms that we don't have a light sensor
Nope. We don't have a light sensor. When me and another user mentioned the brightness changed automatically, i think the brightness just went to the lowest because the phone couldn't detect any light. When i put my phone under a light the brightness didn't go up.

Yup you are right
It does that brightness change automatic sometimes but that has no relation with light sensor
WE DON'T HAVE A LIGHT SENSOR
I tried different roms (cm10.2, cm11, ls3.1, ...) all the same. Sometimes the light sensor seems not working. After reboots it may be found/activated or even not.
Yesterday i found the solution: If i reboot my Relay 4G in broad daylight or in the near of a lamp the light sensor (and therefore also the display auto brightness) works.
Maybe there is a test at bootup if sensor returns "0" the light sensor wont be activated? Anybody else have problems with auto brightness?
Regards
I have had similar experience when booting the phone in a dark environment. When the light gets bright it starts working again.
I have my display set to automatically adjust brightness and pretty often the display goes haywire. The lighting I'm in won't change, but the display will suddenly become much brighter or dimmer than it was a moment before.
Is anyone else having this issue, or do I have a dud?
some here. screen brightnes going crazy before and after factory reset
I always use lux (paid) and now I have it on luma (camera source for reading the light). Works perfect!
Hello everyone
I've an issue with auto brightness adjust: the backlight is always too high.
When ambient light is very poor, the automatic brightness adjust keep the backlight very high.
I've tried testing light sensor using the built-in phone dial pad *#0*# and I've noticed that there isn't a light sensor(attached the sensor I've found)
Do you have the same problem?

I find that the auto brightness works fairly well. Not in all cases or circomstances. There are times the face is too bright at night, and too dim in the day, but it generally corrects it on its own. (I have AOD on).
Do note, that when auto brightness on, you can still adjust the "bias." For example, in your case, if it is ALWAYS too bright, even with auto on, turn down the setting for brightness. That should skew the overall brightness to always be darker.

I've already tried to adjust the "bias", but the brightness is anyway too high
The auto brightness adjust from 100% to 80% brightness level, also when there is poor ambient light
In the attached files I can't see the light sensor: can you try in your Galaxy Watch to see if you have listed this sensor?

Because *#0*# doesn't include all the sensors on the GW4

Do you know how to test the light sensor in GW4? (Like AIDA64)
