Hello everyone
I've an issue with auto brightness adjust: the backlight is always too high.
When ambient light is very poor, the automatic brightness adjust keep the backlight very high.
I've tried testing light sensor using the built-in phone dial pad *#0*# and I've noticed that there isn't a light sensor(attached the sensor I've found)
Do you have the same problem?

I find that the auto brightness works fairly well. Not in all cases or circomstances. There are times the face is too bright at night, and too dim in the day, but it generally corrects it on its own. (I have AOD on).
Do note, that when auto brightness on, you can still adjust the "bias." For example, in your case, if it is ALWAYS too bright, even with auto on, turn down the setting for brightness. That should skew the overall brightness to always be darker.

I've already tried to adjust the "bias", but the brightness is anyway too high
The auto brightness adjust from 100% to 80% brightness level, also when there is poor ambient light
In the attached files I can't see the light sensor: can you try in your Galaxy Watch to see if you have listed this sensor?

Because *#0*# doesn't include all the sensors on the GW4

Do you know how to test the light sensor in GW4? (Like AIDA64)

I have checked on an app and it confirms that we don't have a light sensor
Nope. We don't have a light sensor. When me and another user mentioned the brightness changed automatically, i think the brightness just went to the lowest because the phone couldn't detect any light. When i put my phone under a light the brightness didn't go up.

Yup you are right
It does that brightness change automatic sometimes but that has no relation with light sensor

i have a problem after update on my auto brightness.
if i set auto brightness, and If I bring my note 3 from a dark room to a bright room, the screen is normal and get brighter.
but otherwise, if i go bright room to the dark room my note still brighter not dim.
Anyone else have this issue ?
sorry, if my english is bad.
check if light sensor works properly, type *#0* # in dialer and then tap "sensor" to see if the light sensor behaves properly.

Mine too, SM-N900 XSE-XXUDND1, maybe today I will rollback to NC1, DND1 looks bad.
Auto brightness Dark to Bright --> screen gets bright, but for bright to dark --> screen still bright, but after lockscreen it back dark again.
use lux auto brightness..best app ever..
I did a soft reset and wiped cashe that solved it for me.
Sent from my SM-N900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

exactly like me.
I've tried and succeeded, try to put the device on the table and close sensor with your fingers. This worked for me, screen gets dim.
but if you lift 60 degrees or more you device and close the sensor with your fingers, this not work again.
conclusions: auto brightness from light to dark worked if you lift device under 30 degrees.
i don't know this is bug or normal.
for Dark to Bright, the screen is normal and get brighter, although I lift my device 60 degrees or more.

Thanks for the advice and feedback , looks like normal, now I already stop using auto brightness, sorry for misjudging DND1 bad, actually DND1 is better than DNC1.
Hello everyone,
I noticed that after updating my Mate 8 to Android 7, my screen seems to have an Auto brightness functionality going on, even though I've turned auto-brightness off.
For example, when my screen is in direct sunlight, I notice that my apps are brighter, and when I cover my light sensor they become darker even though my brightness is set to max all the time.
Anyone know why this happens?

There is an option in developer options
Please check the screenshot.
Increase visibility under sunlight
Check if this option is turned on. If it is on then switch it off and see if your problem is resolved. :good:

Hey, thanks! I didn't know that option was there.
I've turned it off now, and I'll see if this fixes my issue.
As I understand the Gear Fit 2 Pro does not have brightness sensor to adjust the screen brightness. Is there any chance we might be able to set the bightness of the screen dependen on the time of day, e.g. in its simplest for to low brightness during night and high brightness during daylight?
no
Out of the box, no.
One could write an service, which would set the brightness time based. Based on a sun-rise /-set logic maybe. But i doubt it's worth the efford.

I understand that the P7P is supposed to have a brighter screen then my retired P6P. Yesterday, I had my P7P in the car holder on a sunny day. Even at 100% brightness with adaptive brightness turned off the screen was hard to see.
Anyone else having a problem seeing the screen when outside?
Do you have adaptive brightness on or off?
In Exkm, I see a display option for High Brightness Mode (HBM) which I will try the next time.
I understand at high brightness that power consumption is also very high.
Any thoughts on seeing the screen when outside on a sunny day?

You have to turn it on, unless its max is only at 1000 nits, not 1500 like with Adaptive Brightness.
Turn the adaptive brightness on, you can get 1500nits brightness.
But it drains the battery really fast.

Just an FYI, you won't see 1,500 nits just by turning on the adaptive brightness on. Picture a screen with a white box in the middle and a black background.
Let's say that whitebox takes up 1% of the entire screen and black takes up 99%. The screen might boost that white box to 1500 nits (at maximum brightness slider). So it looks really bright.
Now let's say you expand that box and it takes up 20% of the screen and 80% is black. The screen is going to lower the brightness maybe down to 1000 nits.. even though the slider is still at 100%.
Then let's say you expand the box all the way, takes 100% of the screen, it's all white. The screen automatically lowers the brightness down to 800 nits, even though again the slider is at 100%.
The main apps that I want to see during the day while driving are Maps and Waze. Light mode seems better than Dark mode, but it was still hard to see the maps even at 100% brightness.
I use Velis Auto Brightness from PlayStore to care my screen brightness.

Velis Auto Brightness looks interesting. Are you running it on the P7P?
Did you turn off the built in Adaptive brightness?
Can you use high brightness mode with Velis?

I would be absolutely shocked if Velis can engage "high brightness mode".
If you cannot engage "high brightness mode" by turning off auto-brightness and moving the slider bar all the way to the right, then Velis probably can't do it either.
"High brightness mode" is typically only available via stock Auto Brightness or via rooted options.
It only comes on under special circumstances and you cannot leave it at "high brightness mode" for as long as you want (without using root options).

That doesn't seem right, this screen is brighter than my pixel 6 pro at 100% and easier to read outside. HBM you mentioned doesn't seem to work with EXKM and HBM, or at least for me it doesn't, and have set all the permissions and given it root access. There is a difference but it is so tiny it might as well not be there, and my screen is 75% normal when testing.
