Removing AAC files from ATT WM6.1 ROM - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hello Rom Developers. I am wondering has anyone of you intelligent ROM cookers thought of removing the 10 ACC music files in the windows Dir.
on the Tilt (HTC Kaiser 8925) that most users will never use? These files take up between 6Mb - 7Mb. with that much memory free the unit would run even smoother. If any ROM cooker takes up this challange please share. Also if there is a way for me (A Newbie) to remove them myself it would be greatly appreciated.

These files, and a whole lot of others, are removed from my series of AT&T ROMs.

well, first off, congratulations on your first post and welcome to this community!
if you did not want to flash a cooked ROM but still wanted these gone, I would try looking at this simple tool:

You can use HTC ROM Image Editor to easily remove AAC music files and any other unwanted music files from any ROM including the stock ROM.
Edit: mbarvian's post above just beat me to this - same info here

I think almost all cook would make those files gone first

Thanks
I really appreciate the fast response from such busy chefs. i will try the advice of each one given to see which best suits my likes. i really like the stock rom other than the junk files like such.

ooops
As I expressed earlier. I am a newbie. and I apologize for not knowing my way around the kitchen.. but how do i get this ROM editor to work with the Stock HTC ATT Tilt ROM? it is a .exe file on my pc confused:

Use any compression software (anything just a notch smarter than WinZip, that is) and unpack it, you'll find everything inside. WinRAR should do and it has free 30-day trial AFAIR.
FYI this "exe' is not really normall executable packed file.
Its just like a self-extracting zip containing 'real' executables and data inside.

Thanks 888
I will give it a shot.
You cooks are great. i will donate as well as soon as funds are avail to all those cooks i use.

Virgin Rom Wanted

Hi could someone post a wm6 link to a pure virgin rom for me to cook, I don't want any extra apps in and if possible would like it to be stripped of useless extras ie games must keep office mobile (not calc)
Many thanks
Gary Hopefully a new cooker if i get the pure rom to startwith
virginity is rare novadays....
I think matt released a "virgin" aka "Naked" version of Pandora1.10... check that thread.
Sign me up for one of those virgins .. oh .. wait.. you mean a different kind of virgin.. lol.
Since you want office (currently not available in a cab) you'll need a rom cooked pretty much specifically to your needs.
I'd suggest reading Faria's and double0fours kitchen guides, then choosing the base you want and building your own with one of the kitchens out there. The learning curve isn't too bad, and that way you can get exactly what you want.
My Problem Is stripping all the S**T out the rom (What dll's go with what EXE's and shortcuts Reg settings to free up as much avail space in rom etc) can add software no problem,

The kitchen uses an application called BuildOS. You check the check boxes for the apps you want, and that's all it installes - in addition to os and sys components. No filtering required.

garymeg.....mattk_r is right !
Download, run the kitchen and check or in your case...don't check anything.
Heads up...if you're doing this to save on storage space, you got it wrong. The OS, with or without goodies will be about the same size. The advantage of cooking programs into the ROM is to actually save on storage space. The OS is a region you can not touch once it's built. To install programs afterwards will use up space.
Use the kitchen, do it your way....it's easy.
If you still want to try a pre-cooked rom, the third post in the OS thread in my signature I'm uploading a naked plus camera, office, and media player. I can't strip out media player yet, because there's a file interdependency between Office and Media player that I haven't fixed yet.

Bold moves...Wobbley Legs!!! Building my own ROM...Feel free to help.

Alright I've been reading and watching and asking for months now and if you've been reading anything i've posted you'll now realize that i'm a brave, dumb SOB!
So here goes:deep breath::, dont worry used listerine)
I would like to build my own ROM off of the Touch design and need some help. I've searched for the kitchen but only found(and downloaded) Faria's kitchen.
So anyone out there, i am looking for:
(1) A kitchen (preferabley one not too advanced for a noob but set so i'll learn from it)
(2) a rom dump containing the Touch basics for wizard
(3) and this might be the life saver... a tutorial. however limited or vague, just enough to get me pointed in the direction to a working rom.
(4) then finally input and comments(both helpful and hurting accepted) cause i'm not too proud to be told when i might be doing ReTaRdeD things.
I know I may bee passign my place in atemping this but that never stopped any of you.
ok got started on the research. got an ap called "htcrt" HTC rom tool... but it doesn't have the Wizard listed as a device. So is this what i need and if so wat do i use for the wizard similie?
you can use htc rom tool if you want. Im writing up a list of tools you might like to use. Give me a few mins then check your pm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309549&highlight=core+kitchen
This is the Core Pro kitchen - best I;ve ever used - it takes any ROM so you don't have to worry about whether or no the base ROM you want comes in packages!
Many Thanks
Thanks to noeonkoala and peter for the info and resources.
i came on to present bad news firstly. i dunno how, but i think i bricked one of my smartphones(a audiovox 5600/tornado). I was trying the HTC rom tool on it seeing i couldn't find the setup for wizard(not listed in the drop down). the initial load F'ed up somehow. i didn't get it i did everything like the walkthroughs said as far as unlocking but when i started loading a rom i messed up. THAT'S when i realized my dumbass was trying to load a wizard rom on a tornado so now it wont do anything but stare at me with the blacked out screen. any help on that one(point me to the nearest fix 'em up thread) would be appreciated.
now for better news....
Upon frying my tornado, decided to just do some theory/reasearch and deveolpment work. now before i start hack 'n' slashin at my wizard i need a few moments with it... that is to say i would like to know where to gat:
(1) a "working" Bluetooth FTP cab for wizard
(2) the "esmertec java" cab.
I just moded up to Jaguar's 3.1 cingular a couple days ago and it's beautiful.
!!!BIG props to nottoosmart on the ROM!!!
The java controller is amazing. It even runs alot of my sony ericsson w810's java games(yes before this i was using sony ericsson) in full screen. so i would love to be able to put that in my ROM( as long as it doesn't offend anyone)
using Core Kitchen...
Ok, ok, ok...
Neon, I must say that this setup you have is beautiful. i followed the tutorial and it was awesome. one problem though it gave me an error at the end when i went to move the nbf to the ruu folder so i haven't flashed( kinda scared after i trashed my tornado http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324099 ). But otherwise it ran as far as i can tell smoothly. Now here is my questions....
(1) Could the fact i named it "MiaMediaOS.nbf" instead of the regular "nk.nbf" be why i got the error and if so do i need to redo the process?
(2) after completing the whole process i realized that i didn't edit anything so where do i start to do so.
If you're worried i'm gonna mess up that's cool, but i'm kinda backwards that way in that i learn by doing the part i want first then encorperating it into what i need to do.
The nbf only needs to be name nk.nbf when you go to flash it with the RUU. If the error you got was when you were turning the packages into an .nb file then it could be you overfilled the ROM.
Oooooooohhhhhh.... You can do that?
zeen,
i gotcha. Idoubt i did that but it's nice to know it's possible. Ok lemmie tell you why i decided to make this move even though so many talented people put all this stuff on here for me to enjoy.
I started out with Faria's real ROM (great improvement to my Factory 8125 ROM)...
Then i Loaded Loaded DoudleFour's ROM ( no offence but either i didn't like it or it did'nt like me), followed shortly By the Titanium ROM WM6Ti2 (beautiful ROM just too slow for me)...
I went with NBD's 8.3 and it was another fine achievement but then realized that the Jaguar was "lighter" henceforth faster (correct right? ) so that's where I'm at now. All that blabber to say this, I wanna make a WM6 ROM with the Following:
-Office 2007
-WM5torage
-Total Commander
-BT_FTP
-HTC X-Button 1.51
-8 buttons command manager
(flighttmode,BTH,IR,Sound,Phone,WIFI,ActiveSYNC,
and if possible put the BTH FTP in as well)
-Adobe Reader LE
-A2DP Profile
-FWUPDATE
-HTC Home (i was hoping that with it already installed it run quicker)
-Windows Media Player
-MS VoiceCommand 1.6
-Camera 3.0
-SqlCeMobile
-VoIP
-Windows Live
-HTC Jeodek Java/Esmertec Java ( think there the same, not sure)
**TWEAKS**
-Lunar Calendar
-Time Sync Tab
-Date - Single Line
-Enable 802.11g
-Error Reporting Disabled
-Security Warning Disabled
-Cleartype in Landscape
-Ring Volume Increase
-Enabled Clock on all applications
-Make WM6 ask where to install application
-Prompt before over writing installation
-Enabled SD BatteryFix
-Show "Busy" Status in Calendar view
-Show calendar event text in "Week View"
-Enabled Edge Icon
-Enabled Caps notifier
-Show tomorrow's appointments on Today Screen
-Transcriber
...Basically a simple system that will look beautiful, run smooth and provide the essentials... a moded out Jaguar if you will . Notice i didn't list the default games... i never use 'em, most people don't. I been doing some looking into it and the Java App in the list runs alot of the Java programs and games from alot of different phones. right now I'm using MSDict Dictionary(java), Dr.Sudoku(java), Tetris(java), Worms Forts(java) and a few back of the woods type stuff from sony ericsson's java development forums.
One option you may want to look at is to go find a custom rom that is already built and has everything (or most everything) that you want in your rom (or go find a good base Vanilla rom and start from there). You can then pull that rom apart (if you are using Core Kitchen or newer HyperCore Kitchen, the tools are all there under Extract) and get the OEM, SYS, and ROM folder. Then you can move that to your kitchen area and push and poke, add and remove to your hearts content to create your own personal spiced dish. To be honest (IMO) a lot of the newer roms around here pretty much are nothing but doing just that. Very few of the roms change much in the way of how things actually work, registry settings, etc, but are just reheated versions of other roms.
So with that said, if you do create a new rom, and decide to release it, make sure you give proper credit where the credit is due...
BTW: Be aware though that the latest Faria rom (based on 318) and the NBD series are not as easy to pull apart. Faria lumps everything in one directory (as I recall), and Zoki removes the .rgu files from his rom (or he used to). So with those, you will have to do work to use them as a base.
Oh, one other comment... You could also just grab the consolidated kitchen and work from there. It has packages for about everything you listed already. If you can't find the Esmertec Java Manager package, let me know as I have one.
good.
Thanx.
I took this afternoon to just rowse around the kitchen and make myself familiar to the setup, cause even if i don't go full blast on my first ROM i intend to build the B___H. i did realize there are alot of the program folders in the kitchen that i need and that somehow(not sure, just theory work) i can actually pull out the remaining neccessities from Jaguar 3.1. And trust Credit goes out to you guys everyday... dealing with a problem at work is one thing but the way you guys have fun cooking roms and listening to gripers off the clock!!! my hat's off to you fellas (no but kiss intended).
And yeah if you would be so kind i would love the java program link.
Oh, To Be Young And Dumb Again... being naive is sooooo over rated

hope nobody was expecting a fresh one...
ok,ok,ok...
let's just say i got bored. i tried and tried to figure out a way to create my own rom from scratch, but to no avail.
Sooooo instead i decided to let it sit for now and just get the rom i wanted built using the gifts here. So what did i do? simple first lemmie say Mattk_R fine job on the kitchen and rom sets couldn't have done it without ya .
So obviously based on that you know now i used the "Consolidated Kitchen". It is extremly user friendly and if you know your basics ( Many thanks to Peter Petrelli,Faria and entry level teachings from Mfrazzz & NeonKoala ) the kitchen is a breeze.
Now pay attention noobies!!! (mocking my own ignorance )
If you want a good ROM with very little done to it there are toms including some stock roms stripped to the bone. However if you need a really good "vanilla" ROM, here are a few threads to check out:
Consolidated Kitchen Central - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311144. To me the best vanilla with kitchen i've ever seen.
FINAL ROM WITH Pro Rom Kitchen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303406
HyperCore Kitchen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309549. Be careful with this one 'cause if you don't follow to the L E T T E R you might get stuck in tri color mode(boot screen) and need this thread "Tales from a brick and back--Newbies suggested reading".
Thats what i did...
I tried to build my own rom from strach too, but i dont think i can get it...or maybe if i just try and flash about 100 times i might get it...but i dont have patience for that...LOL
So, I used WhiteRat rom (thanks whiterat), ripped it apart using core kitchen (thanks anichillus), then deleted the packages that i dont like, and added my own packages that i have been collecting...
It seems to work now, i really want to try to out for a few weeks to see how i like it, but i just cant control my urge to cook one more rom with different packages...LOL
PS: I have tried many kitchens, i think core is the best for a newbie like me...been trying hypercore for a while now, it can be little more complicated than core...

Sorry, I do not. BTW:the package I posted is the April version, and it is still working (the June version timebombed a few days ago on Sept 1).

3.55.502.01 BASIC WWE ROM (19214) [12Mbyte Page Pool] ** 6 Versions NOW AVAILABLE **

Firstly:
Sorry for the confusion I was not aware that "NO THRILLS" which is what I originally called this Basic ROM was someones 'Trade Mark'. Please forgive me for stepping on any toes, it was not intentional, and not intended to take away from anyones well earned glory. Sorry all!!.
So Here it is:
This is my first ROM I've put up for Download. I've been playing about with these ROMs for quite a while and I have really appreciated everyones help in developing wonderful tools and freely distributing them here.
XDA-Developers is just brillient
So This ROM is based on the latest ATT build (3.55.502.1) I have removed all of the ATT bloat ware, and several applications listed below, and left the ROM open for customizing. I have often found that Most ROMS have only the 5 tab Home, and the older Task Manager etc, so I have removed all traces of these applications and simply left the ROM barebones, so people can just add applications as needed.
Applications removed:
ATT Music Shop
ATT Games Shop
ATT Mobie TV
ATT Music ID
ATT Mall
Real Player
HTC Home
HTC Today Plug-in
HTC Task Manager
Windows Music Player Plug-in
Microsoft Welcome Center
Applications Added:
SDAutoRun
Windows Vista Wait Cursor
Windows Media Player Compatability Upgrade (now plays mp4 video)
Screen Capture App
Reg Editor
This ROM does run 2 additional small Cabs after first installed, these are adding small settings for the ATT network. These Cabs DO NOT AFFECT any none ATT users. Hence this ROM can be used on all carriers that I am aware of.
This ROM is compatible with all the 1.65 Radios. I have not Tried the 1.58 yet, but I have tried the new 1.71 Radio and that one is also compatible with this ROM.
Voice Command and all the OFFICE applications are still there, as is NETCF2.0
I have uploaded two copies, one with the radio, and one without.
I am planning on doing a fully loaded ROM soon based on this acrhitecture.
Please let me know what you guys and girls find with this new ROM
Thank you

I called this ROM a NO THRILLS Rom. Sorry for any confusion but this rom is in no way associated with the Master Chef "NoThrills". Please forgive me if I mis-represented this ROM. I simply ment that it was a stripped down ROM with only Basic Apps installed. In England where I am originally from No Thrills means just that, "very basic". Which is why I used the term. I was not aware until recently that "NoThrills" was a xda members name.
However, NOTATreoFan is dead right its "No Frills" I was thinking of. Doh!!!!! Trust me I program better than I apparently speak !!!
Sorry for the confusion NoThrills. Please don't hate me, i'm just stupid
Problems Reported So Far
None, However some poeple have commented on various NETCF configurations, hence the list of availlable versions has been updated to accomodate these requests.
Now you can have :

Enjoy!
Thx M8, I'll give it a go...

This isnt the "No Thrills" that you think it is, it looks like we have a new chef which is great but I agree that this should prob be changed from "No Thrills" that is of course you want a cluttered thread with questions like the above. You are right. I was not aware until just now that NoThrills was someones call sign. I have changed the name of the file and printed an appology in the listing.
Thank you for your comments.
Like yourself...I'm anxiously trying and struggling to become a avid chef in cooking ROMs. Is it possible that you could direct a noobie like me to a tutorial or Wiki about what steps you took to take out most of the different AT&T apps and such? This is something I've been trying to do for some time now and have failed at almost every attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciative so that I can further my cooking expertise. If you don't know where to find information could you possibly post a Wiki or tutorial on how you done it yourself?
EDIT: Can someone mirror this through MegaUpload? Rapidshare keeps giving me an error.

Great Entrance, Anthony, but I welcome your "stripped" WWE Rom to the Kaiser community..
Great stuff for those who like it plain and simple.
Good to see so many new chefs around.
Look forward to seeing more of your work in future.
WIzard200x,
"Stripped" .... Yes that would of been perfect
Next time, I will think a little harder before giving my creations a name.
Thank you everyone for your understanding !!

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a quicker way to do it, but for me it was a case of locating each and every file for the apps not wanted and deleteing them. Then I went through each rgu file and removed all entries concerning the programs no longer installed. You also have to go through each provxml file to locate any references in there as well, otherwise the rom might develop instabilities. I also did some very minor dsm extractions.
My ROM will decomplie again, so if your looking for a basic architecture to begin on, download my rom and extract it.
Hope that helps

Which files are you refering too :
I used notepad for the following files
.provxml
.rgu
and a HEX editor for:
.dsm
I can not report to much success with the dsm files. My knowledge of this area is limited. I was able to remove some lines that were not wanted, but some of the files did not translate well.
Hope that helps
That helps me out quite a bit. I'm going to retry what I've been battling all night and see what I can come up with

Is it at all possible to merge multiple cab files to create a single cab?

What I am interested in doing is taking multiple cab files and then merging them into a single cab file so rather than having to install multiple theme tabs i could just install a single file which would make the whole process simpler after a hard reset to get all my things reinstalled.
I'm a bit of a noob and have searched through the forum but havent really found a noob's walkthrough although i have found usefull posts they arent exactly what i'm looking for, i'm sure other members would find this really usefull too if its at all possible.
It could also be helpful for installing multiple applications at a time.
I appreciate that people dont have the time to sit and talk me through the whole process but any information you could give would really be appreciated.
I've attached the files that i would be interested in merging. I'm not looking for anyone to do the work for me i'm just interested in any knowledge of the process that you may have to offer.
Thx
Alex

Simplest and easiest thing to do is to use UC to install all these cabs automated style when the ROM boots up. I am assuming you are using a ROM which is UC compliant (all the official ones arent.....the cooked ROMs are mostly UC compliant though).
The 'hard' way is analyzing the cab's -> extracting files/reg-entries -> rebuilding the cab-files to one cab.
Theoritically it's possible with a program like WinCE Cabmanager but it is a hell of job I think.
I would go for the UC-option mentioned by MrVanx. I use it myself and it works like a threat (you have to get familiar with wap-provisioning and stuff but it's worth the journey)
Ive tried using a few of the cooked roms over the past couple of weeks but to be honest they dont work all that well for me, none of them seem to work with msn (which is something i use all the time) i always get error messages saying that it cant find a data connection even through wifi which is always setup properly as i can search the net quite easily and have verified that the wifi is working and searched through the rom threads for fix's and all ive seen so far is that this seems to be a bit of a problem for a number of users, some fixes work for certain members but it doesnt for others, unfortunatly i'm one of the others.
Currently using Vodafone UK 1.90.161.5 stock rom.
I think the WinCE Cabmanager approach mite be the best option for me as i'm still a bit of a noob with regards to things and as most of the cabs i'm interested in merging are simple theme cabs so it shouldnt be that much of a task (gulps)
Are there any good tutorials that i could use for WinCE Cabmanager?
I'll have a search myself to see what i can come up with but in the past i've found it quite hard to find things in the forum and most of the time i stumble across certain "gems" by following links in peoples signatures.
Thanks for the info its much appreciated.

Over on the Kaiser section there was a user named bengalih, who made an automated installer called Sashimi. Although Bengalih has been banned, his work is still floating around. Check out this thread, or do a search for Sashimi. In theory, it should work for the Raphael, since it is still a Win Mobile device. Hope that helps. I might add, that right before Bengalih was banned, he stripped his Sashimi guides from his posts on xda, but they are available here.
This does look like the type of thing i am looking for unfortunately all his posts are just "..........................." but i regged on the other site and got the software so i'm going to go check it out and see how it works. Thanks for that
Alex
Just a quick question but does your mobile connection (Vodafone UK) allow you to use msn (or to that matter any IM program) or is it just http stuff only?
Tmobile wnw doesnt allow IM software over the data connection unless you use wnw+ so i wonder if this is the case with vodfone aswell?
Yeah it does, it also allows me to use skype too. Unfortunalty its the only ROM that does allow me to use msn although i havent tested skype as this is my secondary IM app.
In theory to make a theme (cab) i tried to extract files from a few cabs, files including:
1AA884~1.004
1BBFDC~1.001
1E29E8~1.005
4E6705~1.002
5A7AE8~1.015
5B86C9~1.016
5C27FF~1.017
etc
Then i used "QuickCab 1.0" to add all the extracted files from a couple of cab files, i directed QuickCab 1.0 to install the files to the Windows directory and the process made the new cab file with no problems however i tried to install the cab file that it had created but my TF3D didnt change at all even after a restart.
I'm trying to merge NoTopCurtain.cab-NoCurtains.cab-GlassClock_v1.cab-Pamas Transparant Slider.CAB & NeonIcon.cab
By looking at the xml file it looked like all the 90 files should be installed to the Windows directory.
Any idea of what i am doing wrong?
Thx
Alex
try cabmanager. You will see the actual files. And there is very logical registry structure.
I do not have a tutorial for the program but it's not that hard. You can export files (right mouse click) and reg-entries (under 'file'). Put those all together (import of reg-entries is also possible!) Adding files gives you a simple window with where to put the files on your ppc.
It is not that hard and you will be in control of the proces instead of working with the encrypted files you are doing now...
made dozens of (working) cab's this way myself and I'm no einstein!
Good luck
@merten3000 thanks for that for the next 30 days i can make working cabs, i initially seen your post and checked the program but noticed it was only a 30 day trial so i never bothered then with your last post when u mentioned "encrypted" files that sort of made sense when i originally seen the file names of the files i was extracting where as they are now extracting properly and i created a working cab, thanks very much.
Dont suppose you know of a free program that will do the same job? Money is tight and cant justify buying this app.
Alex
The simplest thing to do, for me, would be to take the stock rom that you like, extract and recook it making only the changes needed to make it UC compliant.
That way you get your rom just as it was, and can run all your cabs. Shouldn't be much work either. (well, it wouldnt be on the Kaiser - not used Raphael kitchens etc, but assume it is relatively easy)

[Help] Stripped WM Rom

Hi guys.
I think this might be my first post in this forum, despite being signed up for a while now.
I need a litle help from you. I have been messing around with my Kaiser. I have tried some roms and found some that I specially love:
PDA Corner Ultimate Beta II and NATF v5. Both with radio 1.70.19.09.
Ok, moving on, I really don't use my Kaiser for much, besides calls, videocalls and messenger/mail/mms/sms.
What I am trying to find is a really really stripped rom. I know we can't remove IE, and some more stuff, but for instance, notepad and stuff like that, would be great...
My idea would be to have not a LITE rom, but a SUPER LITE rom.
Correct me if I am wrong, please:
The less aplications installed, the smaller pagepool needed, therefore helping reducing battery draining. I know that's not the only way, but it would be a great help. Besides it would be "designed" by me, wich would also be great.
I have been fidling around with kevin's kitchen, but from what I know, it does not mess with windows directly, besides some registry tweaks.
Where can I find an application for that? And a tutorial/thread to be more informed please. I have searched but all I can find is regular cooking (adding applications to stock roms)...
Best regards, Pedro Maia.

Take a look at Alex's Cooking Kit's on the Wiki (Kaiser Kitchen). He has an "Ultra Clean" rom with pretty much everything stripped.

Try my IBI light. You can also grab IBI:The Kitchen from my tread there, full kitchen everything open. Ready just to run the KAISERKITCHEN batch. You can also just go into Packages folder and remove some of the unwanted packages there (and add others as pleased). This is a ultra light rom (Around 140mb free storage out of the box
57-60 mb free memory out of the box // depends on setup) wich is quite speedy if I might add myself (yeah I made it, and I am not afraid to say so lol).
