Hi there,
i've been searching for hours now but couldn't find anything working.
Usually I make phone calls from my mobile by calling my home number (which is free for me) and then being connected by my voip router, similar to using a calling card. In my Alcatel phone there is an option to use a general prefix where I enter the home number, a pause sign and the pin code. If that option is activated I simply use the phone book on the sim card and the prefix is used automatically. So I can activate or deactivate the calling card option whenever I want to.
Of course I want to have something similar on my MDA but all I could find were apps that either don't install/work on WM2003SE (Sunnysoft Callingcard, CCDialer, EZDial) or do not what I want them to (Mobidial).
Maybe somebody knows a solution?
Thanx in advance,
Harry
PS: I've got the most recent T-Mobile Big_Storage ROM installed.
hi,
I upgraded to WM6.1 "Rose" ROM and it all works great except for one thing.
Contacts.
The phone won't read any of the contacts from my SIM, it thinks it's empty. But it get's worse, I can't save anything onto it either. I know there are contacts on the SIM, my son's GX15 can see them all. I loaded SIM contact manager and it can see some of the contacts, and copy them to "Contacts" (on the phone).
This is all with a Voda SIM. I tried an Orange SIM, no problems at all, could read and save contacts to and from phone/SIM easy. Tried a T-Mobile SIM, no problem.
Went to Voda store and they cloned old SIM onto a new one. Still same problem. Can anyone help me work this out please, I'm getting desperate.
Thanks.
Maybe there's a tweak in this rom to hide sim contacts (it should be somewhere in registry). Could well be. Try to google for it. I'll tell you if I find something.
Here it is
I found it: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\ShowSIM
This should be set to 1 to see SIM contacts.
This option is configurable in the phone settings right?
There's one box that says Show SIM contacts
Just thought of it, sorry Jonnno I could not answer you when you asked, just remembered about it.

I don't have a folder called ShowSIM under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel in my registry.
Can I add one?

If it is I can't find it.
And just to add again, that it works fine with every other SIM I've tried, just not this one, or even a newer clone of this one.

There isn't one. Create a NEW KEY.. Call it "ShowSIM" Create a New DWord within the created key.. Value Name: "ShowSIM" Value Data: "1" Restart phone and it should work. I just did it and now I see SIM Contacts on Contact List. I never payed attention to it, as I really don't care to see them. I sync my contacts from PC. I consider it safer that way and can take control easier of my contacts.
NOTE: Like I said, I don't pay attention to SIM Contacts... So.. They might have actually been there and didn't notice before.

Karhoe, this option isn't available on Rose ROM
I added that Key but it didn't change anything. I'm gonna try my bro-in-laws contract Voda sim next, I'll let you know the results.
Hey everyone.
I was wondering if anyone found a "fix" for the problem with HTC Sense regarding Phone application? Its displaying both Sim contacts and Phone contancts. I have unchecked the Sim contact in people tab but i want them hiden in phone app as well.
I do not wish to delete the sim contants as I like to have a backup incase i switch to a non-android phone for emergencies.
Thanks
Im wondering f there is a way to turn my HTC Thunderbolt into a tablet. What I really want to be able to do is be able t be able to remove any calling features and make it WiFi only. The reason for this is that I have this phone laying around and want to be able to give it to my year old to play on without the worry that he will get into the dialer and accidentally dial 911. I want to basically turn what I already have into a tablet for hin so I dont have to share mine. Any ideas?
You could disable network in settings and then use an app-locking app so you need a password to open the settings. You could call the phone company and have them shut off service to the device. You could use titanium backup to delete the phone and messaging apps.
Just some suggestions off the top of my head.

Kid's Place, it's an app that will lock the user to only the apps allotted. I use it when punishing my son for screwing with his phone instead of getting ready for school.

Maybe I'm being stupid, but why don't you remove the (micro) SIM card? Doesn't the phone let you take it out?

It's often possible to dial an emergency number even without a SIM card (depending on country/network).
These are all great suggestions pretty much none of which I would have thought of. The only foreseeable problem that I may have is the emergency dialer at the lockscreen. 911 is the only emergency number that you don't have to add and can never delete. Can I delete the dialer in its entirety through root? The SIM idea is great however there are 2 problems that arise with that. 1) The Thunderbolt does not require a SIM card, the SIM that's in it is just for LTE so you would be able to have it active without the sim just no 4G speeds. 2) SIM cards or antyhing else for that matter are not required to dial 911. No matter how long the phone has been deactivated or if the SIM has been remover, you can still dial 911.
You should be able to delete the dialer via titanium backup if you're rooted. You could also just disable the lock screen if that's where the 911 button is.

Hello all,
I have 2 SIM cards, one for work and one personal. I think to buy a dual SIM phone.
I have some questions about dual SIM features:
1) Can I define an Account\Gmail Contacts\Groups that will be assigned to the different Sim card (for example: I want to define that to all my work contacts will dial\send SMS from work SIM card and to my private contacts will be dial\send SMS from my personal SIM card without the need to choose every call which SIM card to use)?
2) If the answer to the first question is YES, do I need to go to every contact and assign it to default SIM or it can be defined by Contact group\Gmail contact account?
3) If I get a call from number that not in my contact list, If I will redial it will the call go from the SIM that got this call or I will need to choose which sim should I use ?
4) Can I define a different sound profile schedule for each SIM card ?
If those features are not built in Android system, is there any App that can do this or is it possible to develop an app with those features?
Thanks
Eli
I own a dual SIM phone. I don't know some of the questions but I tell how I use it:
- Every time I dial or I select a contact to phone, a dialog appears where I can select which SIM to use, and shows which was the SIM used for the last time. It means 1 click more than a standar phone to make a call, but I find it more practical than preconfiguring the SIM for every contact. First because I have lots of contacts, second, often I phone the same contact from different SIM...
- When I receive a call or SMS the phone indicates which SIM is being used. I suppose I could configure different tone for each SIM, but I don't care about it, I just care about who is calling.
- An app I haven't been able to make it work correctly is Whatsapp. I don't know how to tell it I have dual SIM so it should manage two accounts... finally I use only 1 account with this app.
In general I am really happy with dual SIM and I am clear that my next phone will be dual SIM again.
Thanks for your reply.
But the behavior that you describe is the one that I prefer to avoid.
I don't want to think which SIM use with which contact I want to define it advance.

1. You store contacts you want to call from SIM1 on SIM1, the contacts you want call from SIM2 you save to SIM2.
2. You need to do it manually.
3. When you are calling someone/SMSing you have Call/Send buttons for every SIM and you press the button depending from what SIM you want to do the action.
4. I'm not too sure. But I don't think so.
The anwsers were given under the assumption that apps for the features don't exist (which may not be true, I didn't check).
