Hi all! I am trying to modify the autocorrect file, though I am running into some issues.
1. I cannot modify the file using Total Commander to uncheck read only
2. I believe because of #1, I am unable to copy the autocorrect file back to the Windows directory, as I am receiving an access denied error.
Has anyone had a successful experience with this? If so, please help me!
Thank you so much.
The only way I've ever successfully edited this is prior to cooking a rom. I've never had any luck editing it on my tilt. You should be able to overwrite it directly after a soft reset. However, this causes the system to not recognize the file and breaks the autocorrect feature.
If there is a way to edit on the device, I like to know too...

Maybe it is another post again about the autocomplete function, but I can't find an answer. I like this auto complete function, but the problem is that once you do a hard reset or install a new rom that all user owned words (words that were added by the system when typing) are lost. These words should be somewhere in a file, but I don't find this file.
Does anyone know what the name of this file is and where to find it?
Using File Explorer go into your Windows directory on your phone and then go to menu and click 'view all files' and you'll see a file called 'autocorrect'. That's the file you need to alter. Copy it onto your PC desktop and save a copy somewhere safe just in case you do something stupid. Now open up a copy of it on your PC and you'll see two columns - the left column is the 'typo' and the right column is what it corrects it to. You can add or change things here. I made "pcm' autocorrect to 'please call me' for example and 'tx' to 'thanks'. When you save the file do not change the format (Windows tries to save it as an Excel file- don't do that - leave it as it is which i think is txt). Now you need to replace the file on your phone however it is a locked file. Use your registry editor (I use Total Commander) and find the autocorrect file and change the settings so you can alter it. Delete the file existing on your phone and replace it with the file you just altered. Once this is done you need to soft reset and everything will work.
If you get a new phone or need to hard reset just make sure you take this file along with you and you'll keep all of your settings.
Thanks for the response, but it is not the file I am looking for. This is the file which is used when you choose the autocorrect function. This is not the file that is suggesting words while you are typing. Anyway, thank you.

I have an AT&T tilt device and have replaced the phone skin on my device by editing the images on the phone. I can manually put the rebuilt files back on the phone without error. Everything works fine. I'v created a cab file install, to change the images in a more automated fashion. This also is working; however, the install is then recorded by the device and with each following install I'm warned of the already existing app. Keep in mind I'm not adding or removing any files just overwriting them. My questions are as follows.
Is there any way to install the files without the device recording the install?
Is there a way to supress the warning messages about the already installed software.
Is there a way to prompt the user to restart the device after an install.
i have never done these things myself (except removing the warning through a reg edit)
but they may be possible through "cab manager" here
I am using cab manager to create the cab files, I guess I was hoping someone with more experance with it could point me in the right direction.
hi f0lks.
i try to get the touch flo files copied manually to my phone, but for some of the files i couldnt remove the "read only" flag nor i couldnt delete em.
i work with TC and tried it by selecting files by mask and also by doin it for each single file.
everytime i reread the properties the flags are reset to "read only" this is the case for just 230files.
any hint would be really appreciated.
thank you
k0s
edit:
nope touch flo is not running, nor any other programs. i did reset the device and so on.
use total commander instead of file explorer
thanks,
i alread used TotalCommander (TC) but i guess you cant delete the files when you DIDNT sspl'ed your device.
i tried it on a clean one and didnt work.
i tried it after i updated the rom and it works now.

you cant delete anything from windows folder because files are in rom, you can just OVERWRITE them if they arent used by anything.
If someone installs a cab that overwrites a system dll but makes a copy of the dll somewhere to restore when the time comes to uninstall that application, where would I find that copy? I am having a heck of a time trying to copy a stock dll from my phone. I can overwrite the dll when I install the app and when I uninstall it the old one is back. the stock one is 14k and the other is 20k. they are different files altogether. I thought maybe if I could get at the file while it was stored away in the cab manager then I could retrieve the file and life could go on. I can't just copy the file with activesync - it says access denied. I try to copy it with total commander on the device and that does not work. I even wrote a mortscript to copy the file and that did not work either. I think it is because the file is in use - it's the file that controls the data connection. I tried shutting off the data connection but still cannot get to it. can anyone offer any tips?
another Idea might be to include mortscript as an OEM and then execute the script that copies the file during autorun right after the rom is flashed?
thanks all.
edit: same result when trying to copy the dll from a stock sprint, touch pro, custom rom sprint tp, or custom rom verizon tp
Really hoping this isn't one of those annoying noob questions, just spent an hour searching but can't find the answer.
Earlier today I decided to have my first go at modifying a .dll file (shellres.dll.0409) just a minor change to some of the display text. Managed to extract it (using Windows Explorer) unsign it, make the change, resign it, and overwrite it by copying it to my SD Card and pasting into Windows with RescoExplorer. All good.
Unfortunately, after a soft reset, my phone (HD2 stock 1.66 ROM) got stuck at the windows screen while booting. Tried reset 2 or 3 times but the only thing I could do was a hard reset.
Phone is now back to stock and working fine so I thought I would have another go at changing the .dll file.
I now can't even extract the file.
Dragging it to the desktop (which worked earlier) using Windows explorer gives an "Access Denied" error message. Copying it with RescoExplorer and trying to past it to the SD Card also gives the same "Access Denied" message??
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what has changed?
