Is there a way to create a nokia style application that will bring up a window each time an application wants to connect to internet, asking you witch of your data connections and WiFi connection you want to use!!!
So that you'll choose connection first.

If I dont have an active WiFi connection then when I want to receive emails or browse the web then the phone automatically starts a GPRS/3G connection which is what I would expect it to do.
However when I want to use Remote Desktop or a remote video application neither will run unless I have an active WiFi connection or I force a GPRS/3G connection by connecting to the web.
I am sure that remote desktop always started it's own session, I don't know why it's not doing this anymore.
How can I get these two apps. to automatically start their own GPRS/3G connection?
Thanks.
hi
is there some way to make phone asking me before connect to internet with mobile network ? (not wifi, bt, activesync) ...
example: im connected to net throught wifi ,browsing with opera but when connection is lost - phone automatically switch to edge/gprs - and i have no pre-paid data tarif , sou money runs out...
Same question
Yes, can anyone help with this one. For example, even if i'm connected to a wifi network and using the internet in opera, if I update the weather or send/receive my emails it will automatically connect to the mobile internet and download using this instead of the wireless.
The only thing I found was to turn the phone off (in comm manager, select phone to off), which forces it to download data using the wifi.
Can anybody help?
problem that you describe is not exactly what is my problem ,if i have established connection with wifi - internet is automatically go throught it,
maybe ....,have you got "The Internet" in preferences of your AP in settings > connections > Wireless lan > $essid (or under menu > edit ) ? (and you must be connected before you start using internet - opera ,updating or etc , thats for sure this will not automatically turn on and connect thrue wifi )
my question si only about "ask me before i will establish connection to the mobile internet network"
why not use NoData, you can shut down the data connection...
you mean create an empty profile in conections ? yes , sure , this working, i have it but sometime i want use this , so i must go to settings and switch to working profile and ..... its annoying, is there any other way ? in windows stile you know , "are you sure with blahblahblah" - my old W850i have this function ,every application which would like to connect run dialog "can this application connect to internet ?" and i can choose "permanently" or "ask me every time" ...somethink like this
No, I mean using a program called Nodata. I presume you are using GSM/Edge/3G data only when absolutely needed, and this program gives you the option to easily shut down any GSM related data connection (Edges, GPRS, etc)..

thanks ! - this help ,not for whole idea , but make thinks more easily
I can help you with that man
Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections
Under the Advanced tab, click on Select Networks. At there you can select which network you want to automatically connect to the internet with.
Its easy

this should do the trick.....
looking in the settings - there is "display message on screen" thrue which i can cancel connecting , little compromise... i think this is better resolution thank you
Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to configure your data connections to the same sort of level as symbian devices such as the e71...?
I know everyone asks questions about disabling data connections, which is really simple: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3654232 (requires no addon programs, so I don't know why everyone pushes Mocado noData)
But what I'd really like to do is be able to tell WM what's allowed to connect to what - for example, I'd like all my auto updates/connections to be WiFi only (such as RSS feeds, email sync and Quick GPS), but other adhoc data I'd like to be able to go through a data connection, such as weather and VF Live.
On the e71 any time you connect to something, it will ask you how you want to connect. Simple. Brilliant. Not possible on WM
Can it really be this hard...?
Hi, Guys.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to stop my WM6.1 blackstone (Touch HD) from attempting to connect to the data connection when I do something network related on the phone. Because It's already connected to wifi.
I'm connected to wifi, and can browse the web, use messenger etc.. But if I attempt something like entering a network path like \\NETDISK\share into the file explorer, it says "Cannot connect etc..." and it's trying to connect via the HSDPA connection, which can't access my local network anyway. It needs to use the wifi...
Is there any way to stop it trying to connect? In the connection settings, I've deleted all modem connections, leaving just the wifi connectivity. If I try to add wifi as a modem, the option is not there...
I'm really lost with this. Please offer any advice you can. I'm close to twisting it in half..

Gooodman, thanks for the reply, while i'm sure many will find this thread useful now, It's of no help to me.
I do have connectivity via WiFi, It's not a normal networking issue, my network is setup perfectly.
The issue is that the Touch HD is always trying to connect via other means even when wifi is available and connected.
For instance, I'll open messenger, or click download on the aGPS data, and the phone attempts to connect to the internet via my phone service provider, when wifi, is connected and ready.
Some apps connect via wifi fine, it seems to be the WM software itself attempting the connection rather than any of my applications.
I don't think it's as straight forward as the first replyer seems to think.
If he'd be so kind as to post this incredibly simple resolution, i'd be very greateful.
I also struggle with this, but this seems to affect it:
a. Start\settings\connections tab
b. Connections
c. Advanced tab
d. Select Networks button
e. Play around with the drop down menu's, especially the lower one.
I cannot be more precise as I do not completely understand myself, but this has helped me in the past.
to whom it may concern, this thread is not being repeated..
what i would like to have to have on my HD2 is the capability of some application/programs (weather, facebook, opera...) to automatically turn on wifi, update/use/download..., then turn wifi off instead of using 3G connection for that..
maybe the possibility to add WIFI option under network management
(comm manager/menu/connections/advanced/select networks/programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:.. (WIFI)
if someone could help me out via a program or a setting.. would be much appreciated.. thx
