Probably just a stupid question ... usually you have to copy a cab file to the XDA filesystem ... just run it ... and the installation starts.
When doing this on my Touch PRO nothing happens ... the cab file doesn't open and doesn't start the installation ... no error message ... just nothing ...
I tried
Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.2.cab
TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB
and others ... but always the same result ...
Does a CAB file needs to be built especially for the Touch PRO ?
May be these cab's aren't built for the TP ?
You should be warned if this cab is not for TP. Somewhere else is your problem.
When was your last Hard Reset? (LOL... just joking)
Haha yeah, .cab to a phone is like .exe to a computer, just put it anywhere on the device (as long as you know where it is) and open it. The installation will prompt you to continue.
AdvancedConfig3.2 is made for the TP, but TCPMP does not work on our devices. Sorry.
Note: Once upon a time, when I first got the Fuze, my file explorer wouldn't execute any .cab files. 1 soft reset, and never happened again. Still don't know what was wrong with it.
Hell ... I was already assuming that my post is kind of stupid ...
Your hint regarding the soft reset was great
Now installation of cab's works as it should work
thx a lot

Other builds of TCPMP didn't work for me, but some kind soul pointed me in the direction of TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB. This build is working fine. Also works fine with the .flv plugin.
Ah, very good to know. I tried TCPMP once, it didn't work on the Fuze so I gave up. It has a youtube app on there and I had skyfire anyhow, so it wasn't a necessity.

pls help me.im tryign to sell my xda lli,i install a pic whenever me sort reset the xda a topless woman will appeal in the screen.
I thought hard reset this pic will gone..no,its still there.
help me guys.
If anything is there after a hard reset it must be in \Storage
change your splash-screen
Your splash screen isn't stored in storage. On my magician eg it is a separate part of the rom. You managed to change it once & I'm sure you can do the trick again. Just search the ftp for the cab which will flash your splash. If you kept a copy on your PC it's even more simple. And next time use an image that doesn't make you so embarrassed when you wanna sell your device
M
i have lost the cab file...
OK, how to ditch your t.ts.
Found this for u, at the magician upgrading etc. forum:

Maybe it's just me, but I've read this post here and at Howardforums and I'm clearly missing something.
I've only ever used the nb_image_converter_859_418.exe to convert "any" bmp to the Splash2.NB file.
Then I drop that into my Windows Folder and use MDA3_bootimage_changer2.cab to apply the file. (Yes I'm using a Magician with this file!)
Soft reset and that's that. No need to do any cab file editing.
Cheers
Howard

hello everyone, long time member of howardforums and just joined xda and find some very usefull info, thank you all. i ran into a small problem last night. i have a tilt , not flashed but i have installed the htc home screen and everything worked great. last night i tryed to install the touchflo program found in a few places in this forum and it didn't work but thats when the interesting stuff happen....after deleting all touchflo cab files and restarting the tilt every time at startup it gives me a warning " FTouchFlo.exe cannot be open, its either not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components can not be found. try reinstalling or restoring file." ????? and now the icon that used to be under the clock for favorite people that would send me their pics so i can just one touch dial is GONE? tryed installing the cab for the htc homescreen again but the same....there is a music short cut that lets me launch the music player that wasn't there before? i downloaded the htc home plugin customisor and even when i set for 6 icons on the bottom of the clock it still just gives me 5?
at the end of the day i would like to have the touchflo program but its not a big deal if i dont, i would however really like to have the pic dialer back on my screen as its really convinient to dial my fav people with it.thanks in advance
try this for the favorite people tab

Keys are in the registry. To access and change the registry you need a registry viewer/editor. There are many but for simple "everyday" use this is a good one:
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Be careful though delete the wrong things and you'll end up needing a hard reset.

PHM downloads as a .MSI windows installer. So it will not install properly unless you have your device connected via active sync when you run the downloaded file. So connect your device via usb cable. Let active sync connect and update. Then while still connected run the installer download. During the process a message will pop up on your device. If a choice is offered it will be ok to install to storage card if you have one.
Cheers for now.

thanks guys , can anyone tell me how to delete .exe files? i still get warnings at start up that touchflo.exe and bio-something-.exe can not run because some files are missing.....thanks
So today before work I installed the Kavana 6.1 rom onto my Dash. Awesome with the exception of the keypad not being mapped the way i was used to. So I read forums about this and decided to download the t9 mapping. I unzipped the files on my computer and transfered them into a newly created folder inside of the windows folder....thats where things went bad. Now when I hit the start menu no icons load up, only the name of the program or application, and when i attempt to select it, i am prompted "error opening the shortcut or locating the filename. In essence the only thing I can do on my phone is text, call, or utilize any feature which is on the home screen. The worst part is I cannot syn to my computer as the usbstorage.ink is under the start program I screwed up royally, and I could use some insight from anyone who might be able to help me. Thank you in advance.

Was the file a zip or a cab?
On further inspection I found that you can sync the phone from the home screen, so I tried installing the Kavana rom again, but it keeps saying there is no device connected. It shows up on "my computer" as drive F. You can explore folders on it and such but I would ultimatly like to figure out how to redownload this OS, and not screw it up lol. Again any help is greatly appreciated

Yea! Its cool though! You can go into settings and select clear storage instead of re-flashing and it will restore it to new ROM state and much safer then just copy paste the cab file into you device or storage card and click on the cab and it will install and do all the work for you! A cab is just a program that is sett up to install itself! Biggest thing to learn here is, dont be discouraged, read alot and learn as much as you can about your device! I started with a Dash and moved on to a Wing, now I have a Tilt running on T-Mobile! And i I remember correctly, I unzipped and installed a cab once too!
Now I am starting to cook my own ROMs and its only been a few months! Sorry. Ramling. Just wanted to encourage you! Hope I helped you out!

#4 - ADDED MY SOURCE FILES!!!! Just in case u wanna change something
Ok guys...here we go again I try my best to put some of t7he things i like into the same cab...looks huge...but looks nice Some of the best features without touching too much the rom. DISCOVER YOURSELF Is all I can say
1. Random contacts retouch
2. Volume retouch
3. M2D DJ Koa retouch and retouch with Landscape
4. workaround Honeycomb...DJ Koa retouch (best feature is with Josh 21198 v1 ...seems to be fast and skin works better)
5. Keyboard Skin
6. DJ Koa 6.5 Skin (i try to put big menus...but fixing)
7. ...some more tweaks specially on manilla
PS - I will keep adding/fixing things Hugs
Ai ai ai....people complaining about loosing data with this cab. Well..I tested pretty much times with different roms. In any case, please backup ur data before install and please: make sure you have enough space to install and work. And follow the proper steps down. Is easy. And please feedback with ur rom's so I can keep testing.
------------------------------------------
Pre-install:
YOU MUST HAVE A SDCARD!How to install?
1. DISABLE TOUCH OR M2D IN TODAY!
2. RUN CAB
3. DON'T LET IT SLEEP WHILE INSTALL!
More caps
Here some more caps...
Looks nice but how do we install two zip files?
Source files!
Ok my friends!!!! I decided to share with you guys the source files for this so that everything is clear If u feel u can change source.
I used Cabwiz to pack it. I FEEL THE Source!
1. Install cabwiz
2. Create a folder to cabwiz folder and unzip the inf into there
3. Unzip the other zips to same folder
4. Run ..\cabwiz "DJKOA M2D 1.00.4000.1903.inf" /compress
it will generate the CAB.
Cheers

djkoa, this is probably because of a single file. Ussaully a dll will cause this. Some dll's don't like being installed via cab. They must be manually copied. Another problem could be that piplewis has a dll or file installed that can't be overwriten. Another usaully a dll problem. I've noticed some dll's, once you replace it, you can't replace it again. The work around I found is to rename said dll as .bak which will cause the ROM to use the original again and allowing the file to finally be replaced.
Overwise, great job, only ther suggestion. I thought about making 1 big cab myself, but realized large cab's are difficult to uninstalled. If the user changes 1 small thing, it won't uninstall and will cause them to need to hard reset. Have that problem with NeoTitanium. People change a registry or something and BAM, can't uninstall it.

Pretty spot on when it comes to .dll You can make the the cab itself to step by step rename->copy it. Other than that its a ok project, one idea I thought of is whit youre project to make it more customizeable is to take advatage of one if the autoinstallers. And then make a folder whit all the cabs, if you make the whole SJABANG finish to go out of the box you can lateron change its contents aswell as the users themself.
I have 2-3 of theese setups myself whit payed content as stuff from lakeridge, SPB and so on. Making a cab is good training but not wery customizable in the loong run on this project IMO.

Another work around for Uninstalling, is to reinstall it first. It's a bit time consuming, but even if WinMo can't uninstall the software when trying to reinstall, it'll still let you reinstall replacing all original files and "Should" let you uninstall finally. A few extra steps and time consuming true, but better than a HArd Reset if it works.

Getting the perfect setup is wery time consuming, its no secret that the order its installed, register strings overlap eachoter and so on will count for the final result. Reinstalling the cab just to have it removed from installed list doesnt mean you have a good uninstallation. Going from one setup to another whit several cabs when it comes to interface, its almsout inevitable that you going to hard reset to have a fresh installation.
My thought was that its easyer to update the package itself, not update the software on the phone
Ok, I disabled m2d and without soft resetting (after 1st attempt) tried to install again. This time it seems to have installed.

Hmm, I think I am going to pass on this on for now. All brewed in like this is unlikly that im going to have a good installation IMO. Should be step by step whit whit atleast one reset as far as I could see (HTC HOME),. Good combination, no doubth. But to just gather everything in one big cab im not a fan of. Also I would take advatage of pre-xml in making of this
I dont mean to be critical in a bad way here, its good training and as I sad good combination. I didnt pop the setup.dll as I stopped looking after a minutt, clearly you havent used that much time on this mister Also this installation is expect upon that you have a SD card in phone upon installation (but who doesnt have that, but still a good thing to inform on).
I perform a remove it, run it and after about 5 minutes of it can not remove so I hardreset
after hardreset (keep in storage Kaiser) the entire all data on my storage end are lost, empty storage .... please help me,

That is what happens when you hard reset the phone. All the data:contacts, messages, pictures, songs, etc. are lost. You should had used ppm backup (I think that is what its called) to save your contacts and messages on a sd card on computer.

Hey, this question maybe was asked before, but couldn't find it any where. We can do a lot of tweeks with removing/ changing file in WM6.5 folder, but every time i try to do so it says "Acces denied". what i do wrong and what i need to do. your help and tips are welcome!

Try Total Commander
For the language tweaks on this forum, and other stuff where you need to "overwrite" ROM files, use Total Commander.
It won't allow you hardcore stuff, but for many tricks advertised here it works.
Thinking of it, I wouldn't be able to come up with a good search term for this either. However, the threads with tricks do tell you to use TC.

Total Commander runs on the phone. It's basically a file explorer alternative that does a few other things, like registry editing, as well.
It allows you to overwrite read-only and system files that aren't in use.
You should have no problem replacing the startup images with it.
hey johncmolyneux, i see you are one of poor UK HD2 owners with skinned rom. i'll show up stupid again but where do i find TC on UK O2 rom. i had one on my touch pro but i just can't see one on HD2. maybe because O2 removed it? maybe you know link to download on for HD2? thanks in advance
don't worry, found it. anybody need it as weel it's freeware on

Glad you sorted it. I just found it by googling.
Incidentally, I'm an O2 user, but my phone isn't an O2 one - I bought it SIM free. Also, Total Commander doesn't come on the standard ROM either, so you would have been looking for it regardless!
I didn't think O2 were doing anything to the phone. Have they skinned it then?

I've only played with the lockscreen myself, and I did that by copying the cpr file and the associated png files into the windows folder, and then just to be sure, I copied the cpr file into the \windows\lockscreen\ folder as well.
That worked for me.
As far as the start screen goes, I'd raise the problem in the thread that you got the screens from.
Good luck
