Hi all,
I got my Nexus one and ever since I am bugged with this "defect"?. I checked with one of my friends and his N1 got this defect too. Do you all have it?
The defect is that; Right above the volume control buttons, the back cover doesn't fit. Part of the front casing (being hard and all) cuts my fingers when i try to hold this thing in my right hand. And that's my hand I use for reading stuff..
My questions are:
- do you have the same problem?
- if not, how can I order a back cover that fits perfectly? since I am really really annoyed with this?
- if there's another way of fixing this issue, what would that be?
best,
kirpi
I am from Turkey and one of my friends brought this n1 to me by the way, so rma is not an option [and I actually unlocked the bootloader already anyways]
mine does not have this defect
http://www.htc.com/www/support/nexusone/
they might still get you a replacement part for a hardware defect that cut you.. id call or email them and ask
Mine is fine.
My first Nexus One did not have this defect. My replacement does.
Call HTC and have them send you a replacement battery cover. If the replacement doesn't fit, have them send you a new phone.
Yes, I noticed it too and looked all over the web to see if it was normal. Seeing as others have noticed it to and some have even had one that fits properly and one that doesn't I think I'll try to call HTC and have them send a free cover. Has anyone tried this and been successful?
well, apparently it is not normal. so I asked htc how can i replace the cover.
i actually wait for any vendor /chinese etc/ to produce spare parts so that i can buy one in case htc cannot provide the cover to turkey
The back cover is off for me as well, however, I would suggest manual labor to toughen up your hands.

Did you speak to someone at HTC? Did they offer to send a replacement cover? The thing is I can't tell if it's the cover that is off or if the phone part is off.
The back case is a little off. And from all the pictures of nexus one... it seems to be the case for everyone. However, nothing that will cut finger. I rubbed my finger on it for 2-3 minutes..nothing.
Everyone else.. look closely.. the metal part between volume and power is slightly visible as compared to smooth side of left. It is very slight and looks like a design change HTC made for placing volume and power key.
Called HTC and they agreed to send out a replacement battery cover so we'll see if that changes anything.
My first phone did not have this. My second did. I am now on my third and it has the slightest of a lip. You couldn't even notice it unless it was up to your eye. However my issue is with the screen. The right side of the screen is not flush with the phone, and there is a jagged lip that is horrid. I've been waiting for them to close my current ticket ( It's been 2 weeks, and have my money back in my back, but it still says testing phone ( yes , it was unlocked =) )). My old phone had massive dust under the screen.
Anyone else have this screen to phone edge problem? I almost regret selling my iPhone as the quality control seemed better. But I love my openess
I have no edge issues on the back cover...

yeah if that cut him WOW!!! hahahaha
What kind of moisturizer do you use? Your hands must be silky smooth! Like buttah!
I just noticed this defect today! I only noticed it after dropping it though (while sitting on the toilet it fell out of my pocket) so no damage of course but didn't notice before hand
well i am not that silky smooth but my skin may be a little too sensitive, i admit (allergetic person here)
However, the off part is not that much small in my casing.
Also it might be related to how I handle the phone. I use my right hand to hold it and my index finger and middle finger hovers around that problematic edge all the time while using it. I changed my handling (since i cannot change jobs for a manual labor that easily )
anyways, HTC has agreed to send me a back cover without even asking too many questions (obviously to a friend of mine in america) It made me think that, this is a well known issue. If that defect is with the chassis than I'll just wait for HTC desire sell mine after that
I received my replacement battery cover today and unfortunately it also does not fit. I called HTC and they are escalating the issue to the accessories department to have them investigate the battery covers not fitting the recently built Nexus Ones.
cekle
it is saddening to hear that.. the rma life cycle is like hell for me (since i reside in turkey) well, please let us know if ever a fitting cover is sent to you and i will re apply.
I think all the N1s have this defect. Mine is about a quarter of a millimeter off just above the battery. It is actually common in electronics for covers to not fit perfectly.
Do I really care about something being .25 mm off? No.
The better question is, should that be enough to cut your hand or even scratch it?
In any manufactoring there is a "tolarence" that defects have to be under in order to be shipped out. In reality, everything has a defect.
The amount this cover is off is certiantly within most manufactoring tolarences. The N1 isn't going on a space shuttle so there is no need to have a tolarence of .001 mm.
There, you learned somethhing amount engineering and manufactoring.
In all honesty, do I think the tolarence for the cover was a big too high? Yes, but you are building something that costs $175 to make and then turning around and selling it $179 already, some corners must be cut.

Mine does not have a gap.
It looks the same on both sides for me.
My battery cover is a little loose all of a sudden. at the bottom it now moves a little. When I squeeze (lightly, normal use amount) the phone at the bottom kinda clicks. Anyone else have this issue?
Yes. I called HTC and they're replacing it. But for now what you can do is put paper inside the case
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah, several other people reported this problem on a Dutch forum. People should not open the backcover unless they really have to. After opening the cover a few times the cover is getting loose and starts to crack when you press it.
okay so I have the same problem, should I be worried or is it just the case with all sensation handsets ?
Take the cover off and press the battery. I think that's what it is...or maybe both.

I don't think that's it, the battery is fitted normally, and I've just tested it with battery removed, it does the same thing, I should mention that it isn't really that obvious, but it's an annoyance nonetheless, such an expensive phone to have a glitch like that.
can anybody confirm that it does loosen after some time of usage, I mean did it came like that out of the box or was it getting loose with time?
I just noticed this on mine this morning , will steal a new cover soon
****ttttt let me check mine lol
...same here, at the right bottom corner!!!!
...and I agree, tooooo expensive phone for such a glitch!

I went to a tmobile store to see if they'll let me switch. The rep told me thy they can't switch cuz its an htc problem. Then he got curious and pulled out his sensation to see if his had it...
He looked so sad lol I just got off the phone with htc and my replacement cover is shipping soon and if the second one is defective then I have to send in my whole phone so they can check it out. You guys should call htc I'd you already haven't
I fixed mine by adding some paper to the back.

Hey first post here! Signed up just to have my say on this issue, just as i did with the android central forum.
Also posted this on the android central forums...
Got the creaking here also, definitely a design flaw. Being obsessive with my devices i couldnt live with it!
I do not recommend putting paper in the cover to fill the gap, as this is just expanding the cover further making it even MORE loose when the paper is not in there. Also i wouldn't recommend it because the paper pushes the back cover out a little more, you may loose a connection for the ground. Which is the little metal springy thing, half way up the right hand side. Obviously its not a good idea to 'push' the cover further away from this ground spot. I have heard that people have had issues with screen responsiveness due to a static build up from not grounding properly.
What i did to fix this problem was a bit of a kitbash of sorts.
Mine was creaking on the bottom right area, like most. The problem is there is too much play between the little black catches on the battery cover and the latch on the handset. Instead of filling up the gap between the phone and the cover (Ala paper, card in the cover) I closed it!
What you need to do is get some very thin plastic film. Like that on kids toy packaging etc. Not the thicker stuff though. This stuff would be under 1mm thick. It came as a viewing window in the box my new wallet came in. So you can sorta imagine what im talking about.
I cut a piece about 10mm long and as wide as one of the two little black catches. I applied a VERY thin coat of super glue to one end of the film. Just enough to cover the area under the catch. Then i carefully placed the film with the superglue on it under the catch, and then quickly applied some pressure to it with some tweezers. Then i carefully cut the excess off with a pair of finely tipped nail scissors.
The result is that it now PULLS the screen/phone INTO the cover more by making the little black catch thicker. Not the opposite (paper method), which pushes the cover out, creating a further problem of adding more paper under the cover over time as the cover expands/loosens to compensate. Not to mention a possible grounding loss and resulting damage.
Hope this helps some people that have had multiple replacements or could not be bothered replacing for such a cosmetic issue. (Like me). It definitely works, just got to get your surgeon on and be accurate with your placement of the film.
Apply this to what ever side creaks the most, and bam its gone. Nice. Solid phone... again.
If anyone wants more specific details etc, im all ears.
Regards,
Matt.
MrSoulSOng A video explaining this fix would be appreciated ^_^ cuz I didnt buy my phone from here and I still gotta wait for about a month to send it to the shop to fix or get a replacement
...just an update...after buying new back cover from no1tech (that was month and a half ago...) there's no loose spots, no creacking...!
Very satisfied now I am. Finally phone feels and looks like it should be - beast in compact housing!
I have the very same problem too. VERY annoying
well I had the same problem however what i did was that on the back cover inside of it I put some black electric tape on to the sides that creak (next to the sides and the clips) and when I put the cover back on there was no creaking at all. figured it wont interfere with the single because people put cases on the back all the time plus its electric tape meaning it'll prevent from short circuits and I don't think there should be any overheating issue as its a very small quantity.
I dropped my S3 a couple of weeks ago and got a hairline crack in the top glass. Although I probably could have lived with it, I decided to send it to Samsung to get it fixed to the tune of $178US (their standard display replacement cost). I got the phone back yesterday and have to say that QC at Samsung's repair dept leaves a lot to be desired.
First thing I noticed is that the sticker on the inside of the phone that has the IMEI must have been removed and re-applied. The sticker wasn't flat along the edges and had a bunch of air bubbles under the middle. While I understand the need to have the same IMEI #, I was really surprised that they wouldn't print a new one to stick on the phone.
When putting the phone back together, I noticed that the back cover would not fit flush to the rest of the phone. Upon further inspection this is due to the fact that a plastic cover on the bottom of the phone was not screwed all of the way down because a tab on that plastic cover was not fit properly into the middle plastic cover. I was able to fix this by loosening the screws along the bottom half of the phone, pushing the bottom plastic cover in to properly fit it and re-tightening the screws.
Finally when I turned the phone on, the language was set to Vietnamese. I had to fumble through the settings to change the language to English. While I understood that they were going to reset the phone, why would they set the default language to anything other than English?
While the screen was fixed, I'm somewhat surprised that there were so many other issues with the phone. I'm definitely not happy since I paid for the repairs.
Anybody else have a bad experience with Samsung repairs?
Their repair center is probably in Vietnam, or maybe you even got a refurbished model and they just slapped your imei sticker on it. I think your just nitpicking this one, besides the sticker, it was a simple correction on your part.

I think he has a right to be upset and I would call them to complain. If you send a device in for repair, after they fix everything on the device it should be sent back in the same condition or better. I would not want to be messing around with screws on my phone and wouldn't want stickers removed and replaced like crap. Who knows what else they f'd up inside the device.

I agree I would definitely call and complain. They may give you something for it or help you out in some way but companies need to know that the job isn't being done correctly

ok my mistake, he can send it back to them and be without a phone again if he likes. Yes there shouldn't be issues.
just got mine back i had a broken screen as well. the only thing ive noticed is that my signal is very poor it was not like this before.

Glad you like to get taken advantage of and settle for poor work when you are paying good money for something.
It is because people settle like yourself that the can get away with this.

Or, one could just fix the reassembly issues themselves (if feasible) and ensure their feedback on rebuild quality issues are received by Support in a clear fashion - that won't let anyone "get away with" it.
I've found that good feedback can make a decent impression and sometimes gets a person's butt kicked to attempt doing their job a bit more in line with expectations. I don't like to be unfair, but feel feedback on specific quality control issues are certainly fair.

Wondering why our HTC is so dirty, although brought to us by our Mother to clean ???
Well, that's no dirt, likely, but it's loosing the color, so you can't clean the corner's.
At the moment, the official HTC facebook support page is the best place to change our phone. So far, there is still no statement from HTC about this issue. There are more and more people worldwide with the same "dirty corner" problem, because it's painted the color only on the black cover comes to the fore. Some people report the support will tell you to change to a black 8X, because they have no problems (without colour, it'ts logic).

I've tried to read this a couple times and don't fully understand what you are telling us. Is there a quality control issue with the screens? Certain models? Can you post pictures and/or links to sites? I just ordered the red Verizon 8x...
I don't mean the screen, i mean the cover that is loosing the color. HTC didn't use colored Polycarbonate (like Nokia/Lumia920), they painted the black cover to blue with a rough surface.
The yellow and red 8X should not have this issue (this ones have a smooth surface), users suspect that the rough surface causes the Difficulties.

Soft coating is rubbing off, I guess you should get a repair from HTC or exchange from the store you bought it from
That's right, i wrote to HTC Facebook (Germany), they gave me the support phone number ( +49 692 222 7334) and they will change the cover when i send the 8X in. I hope to get a limelight yellow one ..................i'm too busy at the moment, to call the support

I don't think the coating is peeling off. Might be staining instead, hard to say. Here is a picture from another forum of someone who dropped it. It's clearly blue all the way through.

It`s peeling of, sure !!! The HTC Support knows the problem. First "Pre Released" Phones for Developers had the same problem. HTC said that this issue concerns just the "Pre-released" Phones, but it did not.
I think, it depends from what charge the cover is made. I'm not blind and i know how to clean........

Is your phone HW Rev 0001, 0002, or 0003? It should be in the About screen in Settings.
HW Rev: 0002 ...............

It seems that the soft coat is white and it's getting stained easily
Does this issue happen to the black version?
No issues with mine
Been using mine for roughly.. 6 months..
Mine is still in perfect condition.. maybe you should take better care of your phone
Glad to know it's just not my phone. I have a T-Mobile branded 8x with Rev 3 hardware. The rubber coating is peeling off of one of the corners. I have owned it for about 6 weeks now. I've never dropped it. it just lives in my jeans pocket with no keys or anything else in there. I did put an invisible shield on the front and back when I first got it, but it didn't quite cover the corner where it is now peeling. I guess I will try to send it in? Maybe they will give me one with Wireless charging!?!
HTC 8X Black
Have exact same problem with the corner...bottom right hand in my case on a black 8X.
At first I thought it was where I had changed the case that my phone lives in.
I have an armoured (ballistic) case that I use for work, as I work in construction it was important for me to protect my investment. I also have a flip case, used only for when out with friends for the pose value, and a soft gel case in red for every day use at home. SO....imagine my surprise when on evening I noticed the corner appeared to be peeling. I was gutted. Having spent £300 on the phone in sale, and been super careful to ensure that it is always protected, this little bugbear is almost unbearable. Shame on you HTC.
Perhaps anyone returning their HTC 8X could let the rest of us know how it turns out.
Hi guys,
The bezel on my charcoal black Galaxy S5 evidently was scratched during assembly. Has anybody else had this problem? I didn't even notice the problem for a few days because it only shows up when light hits it the right way, and it had been overcast for a couple of days after I bought it.
Now -- my local Sprint Store is telling me that, and I quote: "they've never seen a bezel scratched right out of the box" and insinuating that I am trying to take advantage of them. All I want is a phone that isn't damaged out of the box!
I had to go through a nightmare last time I visited my Sprint Store because of a dead pixel for an HTC device. So this time I called ahead to try to make sure I won't have any problems getting it exchanged... Right now they the sales rep said he has to talk to his manager before letting me know.
It's sad that Sprint employees seem to assume everything is the customer's fault until proven otherwise.
Anyway just felt a need to vent. BTW -- the scuff is on the top chrome -- adjacent to the volume button. Kind of looks like maybe the assembler tried using a tool to snap things together and didn't put a cloth on top first or something to protect it. Oh well!

Edit: Just got a call back -- they say since I'm within 14 days it doesn't matter if they believe me or not -- they will still do the exchange. I guess I'll just have to be happy knowing in my heart that I'm being honest and didn't make the scratches.

Just got my replacement phone. Bezel is scratched again -- on the left side, but lower down this time. Guess it's a "feature" -- I'll learn to live with it. Phone is too awesome otherwise.
You gotta be kidding; two in a row? That's some LG s*** right there! I went through 3 G2Xs before the carrier finally let me have a better device. Always inspect that thing as soon as you get it. Me? I always look it over, root and ROM it the first day. That way if anything goes wrong, you can take it right back. Had to do it with a Rezound once too. Get a good case and you'll never notice it.....but you'll still know it's there.....
Any suggestions on a good case that covers the bezel without making it look like it's wearing armor an inch thick? Got an S View right now its OK but of course isn't meant to cover the bezel... and it won't stay closed either... ?
