I'm having this problem and have seen several others with same. When trying to use VC, get the "..have encountered a problem, try restarting" error. I fixed this problem with registry corrections before but the required Keys are not setup when installing under WM5 or lower. Just having this problem with WM6 (reloaded 1.7.1). Any ideas?

What else do you have loaded on your phone(s) that have this issue. I use VC on all WM6 and WM5 roms that I've run (and ones I've cooked, like the Crossbow Reloaded ones you mentioned) and have never had this error and I've never tweaked around registry settings. I just install the cab and it works...
Are you installing VC 1.6 US?
With all the WM6 roms i've used (not as many as some but i'm new here) I haven't had an issue with VC 1.6 US either.
don't think it's a definite answer, but i did have this problem in the past when i installed voice command on my memory card rather than on phone memory. sometimes during loadup after a soft reset i would get that error...think it's because it takes longer to load from the card and voice command is setup to run right away (always in the background)...
if it's installed on the phone memory...dunno...sorry
I run VC 1.6 US and have never had a problem with it. I always install it in main memory.
I give..
Going back to WM5 Molski. To answer some of the post..
It's VC 1.6
No other software loaded..Fresh flash.
Installed to device, not storage *only option offered for install location*.
Get a message during device install: (...recommend installing to main memory. Do you still want to install to "."...) I answer Yes because it just aborts install to say No.
Thanks for the replies guys..

OK, now I have no sound from the speakers and Mic not working. While in Phone mode, the speaker button stays in the On position and won't turn off. Got the old Voice Command registry settings in place but it seems the new problem is the culprit. Going to start a new thread with new problem unless someone has any ideas..
Closing out
Back up and functioning on Molski 3.3 Crossbow. From what I can tell, during the WM 6 load, the speaker phone option became stuck in the On position but the speakers and Mic were not functioning. Voice Command seemed to know there was a problem and gave the "..restart VC.." message. After re-flashing Molski (a few times, still no joy), I flashed with the wired earbud/Mic connected. After flash and phone restart, I removed the headset while in phone mode. Speaker button reset to normal, phone speakers/mic started working again. Reloaded Voice Command and all worked.
aaahh the joys of PDAdome.. Where else can you get the thrill of accomplishment by getting back to the same friggin place
Thanks again for the replies all..
I have actually had this error a LOT with various ROMS, all were based on the Faria real thing base I believe. I'm not sure if that's relevant or not. At first it would just pop up randomly. Sometimes I could restart it and it would be fine, others it would never restart until I soft reset. The errors tended to get more and more frequent until it finally stopped working completely. Even on a reset it would come up right away. I hard reset that particular rom and it was fine for awhile but the issue returned and much more quickly. I never really installed any software onto the phone that ran in the background so I'm really at a loss as to what causes it. The last couple of ROMs I used didn't have VC and I never bothered to reinstall it because it kept having errors anyways. I am about to reflash yet again so I guess I'll put it in if it's not already there and see how it goes.
Give Molski a try..

I didn't have any problems with his roms (..and went back to it with no probs). Only started having problems after I tried the Faria WM6. If the Molski works for you let me know. We'll give Faria a nudge.. Good Luck!
VC issues I've run across
I've tried pretty much every WM6 rom out there.... and cooked some of my own using the Pandora Kitchen.... and it seems that VC 1.6 decides to ignore my bluetooth activation button on some roms... all incoming calls and texts and reminders get announced as expected and the handsfree works great, but I can't push the headset button and get VC to wakeup.... Tried disabling VC and then re-enabling it, repairing the bluetooth, removing and then readding VC... nothing would fix it.... reflash with a different rom and presto! VC works!
At one point I had a strange issue with the bluetooth microphone.... VC would work fine (I'd ask "what time is it" and it would tell me the time) but when I was in a call, no one could here me.... I ended up enabling and then disabling auto gain control... wallah, mic works again.... weirdness.... (don't think this was rom related)
Anyway... the roms that I've had this problem with was XDA Mobile 6 (release 1... relase 2 is kicking a$$) and I think NBD 7.1... never had a problem with a ny Pandora cooked roms.....
Anyway... my $.02... (I'll probably get change)
kudo's to the rom wizards that be...
never had a problem. Installed in a few different roms. works fine
installed to main memory.

I can't take credit for this and I can't give credit but Thank you...!
I've used this and has worked when VC w/n initiate via earpiece.
There's several threads on the specifics of this cab.
hilo,
Just created a new thread for this as its issues are pilling up the other one. i think that thread should be clean and should have only and only contain info about progress on the wm6 rom...
Mods if unnecessary please delete...

I would not call it a bug but one of the disadvantages of the ROM is that, similar to these ones which come to Qtek and i-mate, it does not recognise the network settings out of the box but you have to fiddle with them manually. When I use Orange ROMs (and it does not matter if the ROM comes from the UK or Switzerland) everything works with flying colours, despite I do not use any Orange network. Just I have to install Opera Mobile (I hate pocket IE) and voila! Everything works!
Channels don't work.
in india AFAIK channels just provide the cell id i.e the area which i m in... not imp though... no use of channels
ok phil.
if u remove windows update, at least supply it as a cab in the extras folder.
channels don't work.
long pressed side button does not work! it used to start voice note record for the sda and i'd like that to work.
mms.
better camera software. btw htc camera makes the phone SLOW..... not a good one. need an alternate
enable profile switching to silent when long pressing '#' key
default folder for saving pictures on storage card is not my documents\my pictures any more but a lame dcim folder. that would be nice to be changed.
also, sometimes when answering a call, the keyboard stays locked, the call is still on, but the home screen is active and not the call screen.
joystick seems much better but sometimes it doesn't want to work as it should. maybe another driver; if not, this one is good
we need wpa2 for wifi enabled.
also add in the extras folder:
moblue
tcpmp with extra codecs
htc audio manager could be good
if u need the cabs for moblue and htc audio, i have them
there is an newer version of sim manager. v6.10. has a couple of new things (got it if u need it)
and maybe add a good version of opera. not the java one.
we also need a good midlet manager
also a good instant messaging program. maybe a multi client one like oz mobile im, or like im+
mmmhhh after read all this bugs, i better wait a while to update my phone, i find a good idea to write here all the problems with the actually ROM.
Good AD2P drivers
Hi,
Is it possible to have good ad2p drivers with the next rom?
Tomtom 6
I have never been able to run tomtom 6 before the update.
Is it possible now with update? and also which is best version to install?
Kindest regards
I have Push mail configured and GPRS seems to be buggy. once or twice a day GPRS seems to stop working. My Activesync fails with (Can not connect to network or waiting for the network to be available), and in that mode even IE can not connect to any site. I switch off and on the phone function only, GPRS becomes available again.

Actually I would split your post in two separate ones.
1. the instability of WM6 Alpha - obvious thing, and it should be fixed
2. but I also see something else. I see from many posts that one application which sets all the settings with one click is quite urgently needed. I know that something like that exists for Swiss networks http://www.mysmartphone.ch/Freeware/kommunikation/16920.aspx and for the Norwegian ones http://www.smartmobil.no/Article617.phtml but I think that everybody would agree that such an universal solution would be something good. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about programming but I can imagine this kind of program and a separate database. The database would be filled by volunteers - I can, for example, provide all the settings of Polish operators, someone else British, French, etc. It would be good esp. for people who travel a lot.

TomTom 6 is made for Pocket PCs. It requires a touch screen to work, so you won´t be able to control it. I have had it running on my 8310 but it´s just silly to even have it installed. Go for 5.2 if you can find it.
I have problems syncing my contacts if i have more than 305 contacts.
The ActiveSync (or WMDC) hangs saying "attention required". Though, i can make 305+ contacts on the WM6 and sync them back to Outlook! But backwards i get 305 contact limit. Vey, very strange!
With previous ROM everything was ok.
I tried syncing with different PCs, tried unistalling ActiveSync and WMDC - no use. Deleting pim.vol doesn't help too.
ActiveSync on WM6 gives me 0x8503001c error.
Thanks for your help. I got my old one to work. I really like the colours in tomtom 6 tho.
Also on my phone i have a problem(s) with tomtom 5, I cant type in the post code B8 followed by anything like B8 3NU. Also I can't use certain Points Of Interest such as hospitals or cash dispensers. These work fine on my Wizard but I wana be able to do it all with TORNADO!
The software of dual sim selector don't works with that new rom (adapter of 10ª generation).
Well, I don't know if it works; the soft does not appear by any side.
I proved several solutions, but no it has worked to me.
Somebody can help me?
Thanks.
tejasphatak please rename the topic to "WM6 Torando bugs/issues" , so we can generally post bugs/issues regarding all WM6 tornado roms
Bugs:
1. The locklevel change to 1 randomly..
2. Sometimes the phone freeze when unloking kepyad.
It happened two times.
Issues:
1. When playing audio the CPU load is ~ 25-30% (@180 Mhz). It is normal ? (can someone with WM5 test?)
If using EQ and other effects the CPU load increase.
A taskmanager with cpu load info can be found here (it's for PPC but works also ,somehow, on smartphones)
More CPU load = more power = less battery
2. The system lags while writing to storage card (big cards, > 1gb). This issue is present on WM5 Tornado roms too (except iphone rom wich seems to deal better with sd).
Need a beter SD driver .
Same when copying via ActiveSync (has anyone tried usbfn driver from HTC VOX?)
3. when TCPMP is playing audio it keeps the backlight alive
Using andot's PEE V6.

Hello,
I've got a similar problem to this. It used to work fine until last week. I can't remember changing anything in my Hard/software setup but now it just hangs and only some of the contacts sync.
I've searched in the forum but can't seem to find any other reference to this problem. If anyone knows a solution (or any discussion of it) please let me know. Basic device info below:
SPV m3100 (HTC TyTN) running WM6
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Mobile Device Center
Thanks.
If this has been covered before and is known to work then feel free to lock or delete the topic
Apologies if this is common knowledge but I spent an entire day on this on Wednesday without any joy but have just managed to crack it and get my phone talking to my TomTom via GPRS and thus re-enable all my TomTom plus stuff.
Okay, so the key here is application unlocking the phone.
Because the Vodafone v1415 is still pretty new in the UK (and therefore I guess uncommon) all the instructions I could find refer more explicitly to the HTC S710 and it has been a bit unclear exactly how much or how little Vodafone have monkey'd about with it before selling it on.
I've managed to establish that they've done quite a lot! And it's certainly appllication locked.
I just went through the thread about removing a lot of the branding but the bit that didn't work was the registry editing as I just got Acces Denied. After a quick search I followed the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280710
And got my phone un-application locked. I suspect this is not 'unlocked' as in how most UK people find their phones to be SIM locked (not Vodafone incidentally) which is why I continually make the distinction.
After then successfully editing my registry so as to change the appearance a little I then wandered if it would have any impact on what I was trying to do the other day about the BT DUN issue (or lackof).
'Lo and behold I reinstalled the cab file (WM6_BT_DUN.cab) that I had found in a thread on these very forums, rebooted the phone and bingo, the TomTom then connected (which it did before), the phone gave DUN as a capability (which it did not before) and everything proceeded as it used to with my Nokia 6230.
You'll need to search the forum to find the thread with that file since I can't remember where it came from but it was a hot topic so I really doubt it will be at all hard to find.
I'm chuffed since that was a real show stopper and I was going to return the phone and cancel the contract but now in one afternoon I've got rid of most of the crappy branding and resolved the last issue with it
So, big thumbs up again to these forums and to offically mark the WM6_BT_DUN.cab down as working with the Vodafone version of the Vox as long as you unlock it first as above.
So, now that I've finally covered all the setup of my phone I can get down to some of the developy type things that I bought it for in the first place (well, free on contract but hey!)
Oh, probably worth noting that I did all this on an iMac too (with a little help from VMWare here and there)
The CAB is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1351044&postcount=21
DUN
...does anyone know if the Cab files has been ammended yet to deal with the issue of once a DUN call is made...it keeps the connection open until the phone is reset?
In this case, Activesync via GPRS does not work ( get a message about "cannot connect whilst a voice call is in progress) and I;m also worried about the cost of the DUN call charges?

Can anyone help with this.
I use activesync to connect to MS Exchange at work for MS Outlook email. I was looking to install the BT DUN workaround on my Vodafone v1415 so that I could access the TomTom Traffic service with my TomTom GO520. If I install BT DUN will it break my GPRS connection used to Sync with MSExchange at work.
Can yuo tell me which directory you need to copy the CAB files to on the phone?
I've searched the forum but I can't find any similar problem for Polaris.
I recently upgrade my Polaris into WM6.1 official ROM.
Everything looks fine until a few days ago my Garmin,Google Map & QuickGPS start working improperly.
All of my GPS software can't find any GPS device.
It just blank,no satellite signal at all, even after a few hours.
I've tried many GPS tools to analyze but all useless.
I've tried to recover from my Sprite backups but even the first backup with working GPS state can't solve the problem.
So I decided to Hard Reset.
It worked,but not for long...
The same problem occurs so I try to analyze the cause.
The cause is invalid program behavior :
WM Error Reporting
CE-Star
...and some other software built for older WM
The BIG Question is....why & how?
Why some other older software works why some other not.
Why newer software can also cause this ??
How to solve this problems ??
I hope someone here can help me solve this problem
You have problem because old software is not compatible with WM 6.1
I'm sorry to tell you that you did not search well, because all kinds of trouble with 6.1 are described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411883&page=13
My search keyword is "GPS problem" & I can't find anything related with Polaris...
...and even that thread only mention GPS not work well or slow.
My problem is GPS not working at all after a few days of use & after installing several apps (new & old).
(CE-Star & WM Error Reporting is a new apps)
BTW,it never happen when I use my old ROM which is the official WM6.0 ROM
I've installed many old software (for 2002,2003,WM5) & I never get any problem with my old ROM.
Only about a week I use the new ROM (official WM6.1 ROM) I get this problem (GPS inactive).
one more symptoms is sometimes my GPS LED signal turned on by itself right after soft reset.
That's why I assume it is WM6.1 BUG...
Any other solution...please ?

This is not due to WM 6.1 - it never happens to me.
However, I don't know what is cause of your problem. Are you sure that there is no hardware error?

I'm sure of it.
The GPS is fine if I install nothing except GPS software (garmin & google map).
When I forgot to disable the WM Error Reporting & once it report an error....the GPS stops working.
That's why I disable WM Error Reporting.
So, if there is only Garmin soft & Google maps there is no GPS error?
Then this could be a software conflict.
I'm afraid that you have to do installation of other software you use one by one, on try-untill-it-fails scheme. Start with software which is most important to you... i.e. Total Commander, Skype, S2U2...

How can a software conflict caused a Hardware malfunction...
That's why I call it WM6.1 Bug.
Software (non driver) conflict must not caused hardware malfunction.
I've done that 5 times already (5 times hard reset)...& is going to be 6
I'm tired of doing that.
I can't restore my backup bcoz the problem is persisting.
I hope anyone of you can help me with another solution
Hi,
have you tried to look at the data coming from the GPS hardware, for example with the HTC GPS Tool
You will be able to see better what's happening than using nav or mapping software.
HTH
Kim
BTW the GPS hardware in my Orbit 2 works *much* more reliably than the same hardware in my Ignito/Diamond and IMO makes the Orbit 2 an all round better machine, I conclude that the problems with the Diamond are due to a poorly implemented antenna.
@Bodisson, have you returned your Polaris to WM6.0? I rashly upgraded to 6.1 and I'm suspicious that it's causing some problems, e.g. with biotouch freezing etc. I'd be interested to discuss

...and that include HTC GPS Tool, some other GPS tools.
The result is a blank data, not even a weak signal.
Usually when my GPS works,at least it shows weak signal in Garmin (when not in open space & of course no fix).
But when it's "dead" (like just now....6th time already & just Hard reset to make it work again) no signal at all & google map even tell me that I don't have any GPS attached.
O.K. - Then how about GPS Cycle Computer which can use its own custom internal DLL to bypass the winmo DLL.
I guess if that doesn't work then maybe your internal antenna has come adrift (do you have an external antenna to try) or the hardware is faulty?
EDIT: "I've tried many GPS tools to analyze but all useless" You haven't told us which tools you tried, they aren't useless, you *may* have a hardware fault!

I'll try that...thanx
BTW,i said "it was useless" becoz it can't solve my problem...all stated the same : no GPS signal & even no GPS at all.
about the tools....sorry...my bad...
I've tried at least 2 tools & 3 GPS apps.
Tools : HTC GPS Tool & GPS Toggle.
Apps : Garmin XT,Google Maps & Palringo (locator).
About hardware fault...everytime I hard reset it work.
...so I don't think it's hardware fault.
and also Quick GPS always reporting connection error when the GPS stop working.
I've tested the connection & there is no problem with the connection.
I also tried connecting it with a DSL connection & still connection error.
This error never happen when my GPS work.
At last I think I know what cause it & how to prevent it happening.
After some experiments & analysis, I can conclude it that the cause is Registry Bug.
Everytime I Install many new software & didn't give them enough time to load the registry the same problem happened.
To prevent that from happening I install the other software 1 by 1 & give them time to load the registry properly about 30 sec - 3 minutes & the problem is FIXED
There is likely no problem when the software I installed did no registry changes (at least according to my experiments).
As I wrote in post #6 - software conflict.
BTW, QuickGPS does nothing with GPS hardware - it just updates satelite data. It's error is regarding connectivity to internet!
But, I'm glad that all is working now.

I don't think it's a software conflict
As I mentioned before, the problem only occurred when I install many apps all at once (which i usually did )
The registry entries of all apps were queuing on the memory before all can be loaded & that caused the problem (GPS down).
All the apps I mentioned before causing the problem because it did a lot of registry modifications (but I don't know with WM Error Reporting).
As I installed more & more apps with many registry modification, without waiting for the registry to load, the problem occurred.
Now I can install all apps perfectly (1 by 1 with delay about 30 sec - 3 min every installation)
About QuickGPS...
I know that it's only download the GPS data & has no connection with the Hardware.
...but it help me realize that QuickGPS is also accessing registry.
When many new registry queuing to be loaded,QuickGPS can't access the registry properly & prevent it to update the data.
Thanx for replying anyway
I am having a tough week ! my ppc has started doing hardreset instead of softreset and at some point it has stopped booting. I have been able to revamp the ppc reinstalling wm6.1 (wow! It has been so long ...). So far seems to work except the gps: the driver seems to be detected but no gps signat at all (neither igo nor amigo do detect it). Any ideas on how to revive the gps or check if it is alive or not??

same problem for me!
Gps always work fine but when i flash to wm6.5,it start to not working...
So i return to the old rom and...not working again..
flashing various rom and radio but nothing...
Now i try to test it with htc gps tool but no satellites fix..
In "satellite" tab, i can see only 1 satellite in the north...it changes number, but no the position...
Any idea?
I was lucky and everything came back to normality,
do not know why, I flashed 6.1 and gps was taking no signal, again 6.5 and it only got two satellites for a long time. then when I was starting to read about wm7... It is working again.
I have three theories:
1) flashing and reflashing does not completely erase all memories, so sometimes thinks mess up
2) a fatal combination of timedate and timezone somehow messed gps quickgps files, which combined with 1) resulted in a fatal combination
3) my wife was pissed off with me, the polaris, or both.
No idea what happened and why it works now !!
