wifi problem with long key - HTC Vox

Hello everybody
I have a HTC S710 with the latest HTC ROM.
Router: AVM Fritz Box SL WLAN
My Problem is that i can not use WLAN keys longer than 32 characters, and if i only cut it to 32 characters i doesnt work, too.
The normal key is 37 characters long with "." and ":" in the key.
If i only use alpabetical characters without "." and ":" in it and only 32 characters long WPA works without any problems.
When i use WEP with the normal key it does not work, too.
Is it possible to use my normal key, or i have to use a less secure key?
Regards Karsten

You don't think WPA with a 20 character key isn't safe enough??? It takes years to break a WPA key that is that long (at least if you don't have a BlueGene L or something similar)!

Ok, maybe 20 characters long enough but when i have only 20 or 32, i would have at least special characters like "." or ":".
I i dont have the chance to use a longer key i still prefer to use special characters.
Regards Karsten
(My VPN Passphrase is 63 characters long and much more complex, or to say it in anotherway i am a "little" bit paranoid at some things)

Imate SP5 - first timer questions

Hello, first post here - hope I'm in the right place!
I've ordered an Imate SP5 and it should be arriving Monday or Tuesday. I was hoping to have some stuff ready to install on it for when I got it.
What's the first thing I should do? Should I try and update it to the latest ROM that everyones talking about?
I'm very interested in the Wifi feature but I keep reading how people are being connected to GPRS by mistake. I hope to use both GPRS and WIFI but would really like a good way to switch between them - is there some tweaks I can put in place?
Wireless Networks - so I might be using my home network, and then my work one. Can the device store multiple profiles (passwords, ssids, etc) for the different networks so I can just select one? Or do I need a 3rd party app? Does such an app exist?
Things like MSN etc ... will they stay logged in via GPRS if I take a call or send a text? Will they stay logged in via Wifi if I take a call or send a text?
WM5 for PDAs and WM5 for smartphones - will the same applications work across them? Also, if it works on one WM5 smartphone, will it work on another?
Cheers for your time!

There is no official ROM update for the SP5 - yet. Your phone will have the newest ROM already loaded. I believe there is a leaked one floating around out there, but unless you absolutely can't wait for push email I would say hold off until the official version.

In my experience, if there is WiFi signal and you have connected properly (meaning entered the right network key, if applicable) the phone will always use WiFi and not try to connect to GPRS. In my experience this has worked flawlessly and I use WiFi a lot.

Yes the phone supports multiple profiles.

Using GPRS, no they will not necessarily stay connected if you take a call (not sure about texts). Using WiFi, yes, that connection remains open if you take a call.

In some cases this is true. For example, some have managed to install Skype for Pocket PC on Smartphones. The underlying operating system is the same, it's just the interface (touchscreen vs not) that is the key (but not only) difference. A tool called FakeCursor for smartphone supposedly allows one to simulate the pocket PC pen, however I have never tried it. Long story short: In most cases pocket pc software just isn't usable on smartphones. I'm not sure about the other way around.
Right, now that I have it I have more questions!
I'm having some issues connecting to my home wifi...
my router says:
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
WEP Encryption Type
128bit encryption
Select key generation method
Passphrase MYNETWORKKEY
Keys generated by this Passphrase:
Active
Transmit Key
Key 1: D5 CF 34 DD DB 94 3F 79 D4 A7 B4 44 B6
On my device I select:
Authentication open/shared (have tried both)
data encryption WEP
networkkey MYNETWORKKEY
It tells me the key is invalid?
EDIT:
It only seems to work when I enter "D5 CF 34 DD DB 94 3F 79 D4 A7 B4 44 B6" and not when I enter "MYNETWORKKEY" ? Anyway around this ?
passphrases generate keys for different strengths of wep.
tkip encryption (which you'll need both ends) uses passphrases on their own, this may be a better option for you.
regardless the network key is saved as a profile for the aps you are using.
Will try that out later on - my routers being troublesome at the moment.
Is the Imate SP5 like a XDA in that you loose all your info when the battery goes? Or will it retain the data ?
It seems Word & Excel are missing from the SP5. From what I read they're on the SP5m ?
Anyway to get them on my device?

Quick internet switching?

salut all!
well, i have amilopro3205(wifi,usb,utp), usual laptop like many others.
also, i have HTC Blackstone(winmo; wifi,gprs,usb)
i cannot handle with different internet situations that switch quite often , namely:
scenery A, home
internet->DSL(USBmodem)->Laptop->USBcable->PPC
scenery B, park
internet->GPRS(GSM)->PPC->Bluetooth->Laptop
scenery C, office
internet->LAN(UTP)->Laptop->USB->PPC
scenery D, isrotel*
internet->Wifi->Laptop->USB->PPC
*many hotels sell wifi accounts, one per guest. two wifi devices = double payment.
okay?
so the problem is:
i have different basic scenarios where i must totally reconfigure, reconnect both devices, PC and PPC. it usually takes 5-15 minutes of dummy poke-and-try operations.
can someone recommend a simple way to tune scenarios once and switch between these scenarios with the tip of the finger?
some software?
thank you in forward.

Loox N560 home wifi connection

Hi,
New to this forum, and have been enjoying (!) trawling for answers all over...
Have Loox N560 which am very pleased with, but wifi connection is still bit of a mystery.
Connects fine to unsecured networks (email and internet).
But although home secured network is discovered, and I enter the pass phrase, it hangs on connection.
Using WPA-SPK on device and home router, with TKIP encryption.
Device seems to be using a longer character string than my pass phrase in the 'network key' box. But neither this string, or my pass phrase seem to work.
Have stopped using the bundled E2C programme. Once bitten... Since done several factory resets.
By the way, newplows SDHC card driver is a great upgrade. Nice one.
hi wbdriver,
E2C works very fine on my N560. But i remember to have the same errors as you have. What i found was, that the passphrase would be changed internally into a hex-code. And this algorithm had some problems at my wifi-router. Therefore i changed it from ascii directly to hex and it worked fine.
regards
Bernhard
Hi Bernhard,
That worked a treat - was driving me mad. Plus found Skyfire from the web, so all in all, working great. Used a hex generator facility on the web to convert passphrase, copied it to a text file on desktop and then transferred to PDA. Opened text file in PDA. Then, just copying the text string (did not actually paste it anywhere) seemed to update the 'configure network authentication' window. Connected straight away.
Many thanks

WI-FI Networks List Clean-up

Hi everyone.
I have the MOST AMAZING thing happening on my HD2. I have been travelling for the past couple months connecting to endless WI-FI Networks. The list is now so long (about 230 networks I connected to) that I have matching network names some with different Security keys of course and I am starting to have conflicts.
So I decided to clean-up the registry where the entries are of the previousely connected WI-FI Networks at:
HCU>Comm>EAPOL>Config
One by one I just deleted all entries till the list is clean once again. Oh but, wonder of wonders; upon one or two reboots by a miracle, ALL entries are back again!!!.. just as if I restored the registry before the clean-up! How is this possible? How can deleted values show-up again or how is the registry self-restoring these values? This happens every time and I don't seem to find a way by simply editing the registry.
Does anyone know the solution to permanently clean-up these values and not have them come back again? Should I start using an alternative app like WI-FI Monster instead (don't really like it), or maybe something else to manage the WI-FI Networks on the HD2?
Thanks a lot in advance for the advice

Wifi network with 64 character psk

Hi, I have wifi network with WPA2 PSK code with 64 characters and Samsung Galaxy Core don't allow me to type in so long passcode.
When I try to copy paste my code it alerts me that it support 8 to 64 characters long code, but actually it doesn't (allow only 62 characters).
I try to manually insert that code in wpa_supplicant.conf file and then wifi worked, but after phone reboot I can't turn on wifi until that long code is located in wpa_supplicant.conf file.
I can use that code on all others devices (all android devices including Samsung Galaxy, Ace, LG, Sony Xperia, Nokia, Nexus,...).
So it it clearly error on that device default rom UI.
Does someone have idea how can I fix that issue? I can't change rom on phone, because it's not my and it's under warranty, and I don't wane to change wifi code, because it's already included in many other devices.
easy solve, change your wifi password.
Who on this earth keeps such a long Password for the WiFi...
