so just starting this thread so we can discuss any updates on release or other info cause i cant wait for the phone

One member believes it will release at the end of September, as for everyone else on the internet, we haven't heard a word about release. The Sprint version is coming early September and I've heard the Verizon version is late Sept, but AT&T hasn't been mentioned by anyone but 1 user on here.
Check back in a few weeks.

stopped by the at&t store yesterday...talked to this girl that i always go to and she said one of her co-workers went to a training seminar for the Touch Pro..he wasnt there at the time so i couldnt get any more info. She said its gonna be withing a month till its released..i cant wait.

differences are no front camera
the keyboard layout top row is symbols not numbers wich i say is better
and the software for the fm radio was removed but you can put it back on
any other new stuff id love to hear!
I can't wait for this to be released. My girlfriend's cousin works at an AT&T store here in town so hopefully when I see him tonight he will be able to give me some info. The only bad part is that I am not due for an upgrade until Dec 09 =(.
I think i will just use my mom's upgrade mwhahahaha

Ok cool. Also do we know if it supports plugins similar to what ThrottleLauncher does? So I could replace the default weather screen with something like WeatherPanel.

I believe it was to give developers time to get their stuff compatible, so that t-mobile service wasn't swamped with calls from people having problems which stem from incompatible apps.

- Because they didn't have to make sure Amazon Marketplace, MyFaves, Yahoo IM, MSN IM, & AIM would work on it.
- Because a different management team controls Europe than the one that controls the US, and they made different decisions about how long to wait before releasing it.

You will not receive normal OTA updates from T-mobile. You can either upgrade manually or download the JF Updater from the market.

i think so because the one on htc was also for developers
so there should be a little more stability i think and that's about it

Of course it will. The one on the HTC page is for the Android Developer Phone, not the US G1. The US G1 version will take away root and add MyFaves, Amazon Market, and Yahoo, MSN, and AOL IM.
i find the htc's 1.5 still really choppy and laggy.. kinda dissapointed with it
I wonder how much of a difference there will be other than Tmobile apps of course.
I got tired of waiting and upgraded myself last night,I also got root access.Tmobile and HTC can shove it up their ass.....we US users pay the highest prices,get the phone first and we have to wait.
The new 1.5 cupcake comes with some nice new features but still kinda laggy,but it´s worth it.
I also see absolutely no reason to wait. JF1.5 ftw.

Having the update coming out first doesn't mean its good, the US may want to modify its update by looking at the other updates to make it perfect
Something that a really like on the 1.5 is the option to select high quality on youtube.
The on-screen keyboard is nice too for quick texting but the buttons are quite small.. since g1 screen is smaller than the iphone.. other than that scrolling is still choppy.. battery still need A LOT of improvements.. btw i dont really know why g1's battery sux so hard since the cpu is clocked at mediocres ~240mhz - ~380mhz max instead of 528mhz.. oh yeah gps is better now.. works even inside buildings for the most part.
i just got a free upgrade to a magic running 2.0 i'm not sure if there is one yet but if not i will dump mine for you guys. your probably miles ahead of google anyway lol. interesting thing, i got this due to an apparent bug in the dream running 1.5 where when gps in enabled you cannot make a 911 call
**so after speaking to a rep in tech who knew a few things, the update will be made available in late spring. the device only comes shipped with 1.5. strange that the bug is only present in the dream version of rogers' rom.. anyway, until then

is it a hoax just as in Dream forum someone said that T-mobile has provided OTA 2.0. That turned out to be not true.
So how can you be sure that it will come with 2.0? I would be very surprise. The Magic WILL have a 2.1 update but I doubt it will be released before the Hero. But who knows.

no hoax, i called in and renewed my term earlier. the girl said 3-5 business days it will arrive. it should have 2.0 already as the original pont in the promotion was to allow dream users to experience android 2.0 which was deemed to heavy on resources for the dream. unless that was a rumour. but the girl on the phone said that it was due to not being able to call 911 when the gps was enabled, which is scary. 2.1 will have sense ui. which will be made available to rogers, not sure when though. i am going to call and ask which version of android comes on my new magic.. i'll get right back to you folks..

Gotta love miss informed sales people. The Rogers magic will get the 2.1 update in the near future (between now and July I believe). I'm pretty sure the girl you spoke to only knew half the story.

it is coming with 1.5 but the rogers 2.0 should be out around late spring
so far away.. the tech guy was saying that htc's will be out sooner. either way i will leave my device stock so i can get the rogers update. then i will dump and share it. for now it's back to waiting. sorry to get any hopes up
Well i hate to burst some bubbles but the replacement Magic is the same as ALL other magic's that rogers gives out, stock 1.5 rom. I just got mine a few hours ago and its very nice but like i said stock 1.5 with the 'perfect spl' as stated in the xda magic wiki.

i got my htc magic today from upgrading from the dream, its still got stock 1.5 on it and rogers is aiming for 2.0 release around april...so we just got a new phone for nothin that is surprisingly harder to root than the dream lol

Why is it surprisingly harder to root? I got my magic in december running the HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAPP50000) and I simply used the unlockers one click root guide, and was done in 5 minutes...

Actually, they say that it will be released sometime between October 1 and December 31. Makes some sense, as it's not expected to be released anywhere until the end of September, and if it falls even a week after that it'll be October.
With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if it does take Rogers until December. Have they even released 026 yet? That's why I rooted and went with the generic ROM. Been running 026 for like a month-and-a-half.
As others have said, as long as a generic X10a firmware gets posted somewhere, we'll be set.
I think Canadian cell phone users were anticipating this though. It happens all the time. For once I almost thought we'd be close to par but I saw that tweet earlier as well.
Ah well. Thankfully there's a strong online community and we'll have this minutes after it's released

Debrand = remove operator logos, apps (bloatware), etc. Lets you use generic FW and FW from other carriers
Unlocking = allows you to use your phone on a different carrier. No more binding to carriers. You'll want to debrand your phone and use a generic FW once it's released... we'll definitely be getting a late update from Rogers.

Maybe, but the Samsung screen is gorgeous and that's coming from an iPhone 4 user. I know the sensation has a qhd screen, but the super amoled plus is impressive.

That's what I am hoping too. Also I believe that if anything goes wrong with the handset you can just take it back to the store rather than sending it back?

I think with orange you have to send the handset back if you get it online. O2 told me that after the first 30 days I can go instore. Not sure about the other networks.

Very true. However, they at least have the sense overlay done (or so it would seem), so that leaves the LTE radio... that's about it.

I can say that it does come from verizon and its not your everyday cs rep or a store employee. I have known the person since I'm 5 (41 Now) and they have been with verizon 15 years and has worked his way up from tech to a nice position.
I can also add that they were looking into making the maintenance update part of the GB upgrade but were having issues with it so as of now they are two seperate ota's.
Im sure some of the devs here can check and see if this has any validity. I cant get him to confirm a GB date but he said nothing will be set for GB until current issues are dealt with..

Been using multiple GB 2.3.3, and 2.3.4 roms, including alpha CM7, with very little issue. I would expect official release soon if I didn't know Verizon so well.

The EVO has been out a longer than the thunderbolt, and its just now getting it. I'm not saying it will take that long for the tbolt to ft GB, I'm just saying don't get your heart completely set on getting it real soon. Who knows these days really..

All updates have issues so it's going to be pretty much unavoidable. Factory resets can generally clear up most of them though.
