a couple of hard resets ago i found a way to create a shortcut to the bluetooth manager (to turn BT on/off, not bluetooth settings) which enabled me to put a shortcut on the today screen which would be there permanently, unlike the standard now-you-see-it now-you-don't bluetooth tray icon.
i have been trying to find out how i stumbled across it ever since but have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know how this can be done?
Would love to know how to do this, if possible.
Thanks
ME TOO!! Me wants ta know too!
I have only been able to make links to the Control Panel Bluetooth Settings... but I think we would love to know this little trick!
Cheers!
Hi again,
after some longer time, i had again time to play with my tool.
...and here is the new version!
Completely rewritten, it has a new name, it supports Infrared/BT Incoming Beams controlling, and of course Micro$oft's Bluetooth.
I decided to split it into two parts. One is the SwitchIT application itself, and another one is a pocket pc service (WatchIT) for constantly watching Bluetooth and Obex status and displaying notifications. It was needed because if you turned BT on/off with another application/control panel, there was no notification.
At the moment I'm posting "prerelease 4" version of SwitchIT app for TESTING and COMMENTING (WatchIT service is not included yet).
That means it is more or less finished, however you'll not get any notifications at the moment.
I will post complete version (WatchIT service included) within next days.
Please do some comments on the "prerelease 3 version", so I can improve it, if needed.

Hi all,
here's my little BT ON/OFF switch application for all devices using Micro$oft bluetooth stack.
It is the simpliest app in the world, however I was missing it too much, coz I was forced to use stylus or finger to switch BT On/Off.
Now once you install this, all you need to do is to assign it to HW button and that's it.
Turning BT On or Off with a HW button press.
No more picking up the stylus and going through the menus etc...

Latest version 23.03.2005 ver 0.0.0.4 fixed for button mapping
This is a "prerelease 4" version for testing.
Renamed the app to "SwitchIT".
Supports Obex controlling (incoming beams - IR/BT).
All in one .exe again.
No notifications in this test version.
Command line arguments:
bon -> BT on
bof -> BT off
bds -> BT discoverable
bsw -> BT switch (ON/OFF)
bsd -> BT switch (Discoverable/Off)
oon -> OBEX on (Incoming BT/IR beams)
oof -> OBEX off (Incoming BT/IR beams)
osw -> OBEX Switch (ON/OFF)
no/unknown cmdline argument -> ?? guess what... ))
Latest prod. version 25.02.2005 ver 2.51
Nicer icons.
Different icons for each mode.
Some error handling.
Older Versions
Update 24.02.2005 ver 2.5
OK, so here it is again, with bubble notification...
However, i should probably redesign the discoverable icon, coz i don't like it...
Update 23.02.2005 ver 2.0
It takes now following command line arguments:
bon (for BTH on)
bof (for BTH off)
bds (for BTH discoverable)
If there is no argument, it works as before:
If BT is Off, then BT On
If BT is On, then BT Off
You can find the shortcuts in Start -> Programs -> Bluetooth Switch
Then use some button mapper, like NightmarE wrote below:

Thank you!
Thanks Buzz, great little tool!

Thanks for your useful tool. It works well in my XDA Mini. Can you develop one more simple app: turn on/off "receive all incoming beams" function?

Doesn't PocketZenPhone does all this?
Don't get me wrong I would love to have another utility, I specially like the idea of having it as a shortcut on the pocket Plus.

how about if it will take commandline parameters?
Can the VITO map the shortcuts or set cmdline parameters?
Examples:
BT_tool.exe -OFF
BT_tool.exe -ON
BT_tool.exe -DSCVR

I'm not getting you wrong... i bet, there are also other apps which are doing this... but as I said, I don't use them, so all I needed was a small tool with this single purpose. So i did it and share it here... ))
BTW, there is something wrong with links on your homepage.. ))

Thanks for your considering, Buzz!
I dont think reboot is needed. Usually, I turn off "Receive all incoming beams" to save power, and then someone wants to send some files to my PPC via infra port. I have to turn "Receive all incoming beams" on by tap Start Menu\Settings\Connections\Beam->tap "Receive all incoming beams" check box. After that, evrybody can send to my ppc via infra port without soft reset my ppc. How do you think?
Yes, it is great if your small app supports command-lines
BT_tool.exe OFF -> Bluetooth off
BT_tool.exe ON -> Bluetooth on
BT_tool.exe DIS -> Discoverable
(And maybe, it has more??? )
BT_tool.exe INF -> Allow receive all incoming beams
BT_tool.exe INF0 -> Not allow receive all incoming beams)
Well, dont worry about some ButtonMapper doesnt support command-lines because we can make a shortcut file (*.lnk) to command-lines into it.
@Pocket Me
..i tried it 2day... sent .vcf over IR, then disabled incomming beams and i was able to receive it again...
but anyway, i will do it... 4U... ;o)
one app, which will take parameter + couple of shortcuts for each param...
buzz
ok i think u can make commandlines by shortcuts? if it can so the vito mapper may assigned

Yeah, the whole website was nuked a while back and rather than to patch it I'm working to do a whole thing again, just haven't had much time, since I'm studing for my certifications. Soon though, Have a lot of cool things to share
Thanks Buzz,
Much needed tool, Great to hear that commandline features are coming up
Keep up the good work
ok gyus,
thanx for ideas...
i will do it this way:
1. it will take all those parameters
2. if run without any parameter, it will work just the same as now...

Hey guys
don't immediatley jump down my throat for not using search, i have and the best screen killer i have read is BlackMe but it doesn't seem to do what I want:
I need to use satnav whilst on my motorbike, for this reason i need to turn the screen off and just listen to it.
I tried CoPilot 7 with BlackMe but this disconnects the external GPS still
I tried TomTom7 with BlackMe and this also still disconnects the external GPS.
*(I need to use external gps for reasons I wont bore you with)
Anyone know of an app that WILL leave BT GPS connected, both Satnav and a screen "blanker"?
Many thanks!
Hi, I don't know this for sure, but you can try psshutxp (if you don't have it already), this program can reset your phone but also shut the display down. Furthermore, it will creat a shortcut in start>programs called displayswitch. This will turn the screen off, but your programs will be running in the background (atleast with music players it works) and this you can assign to a hardware key..
Grtz
thanks mate, i'll get that and give it a try.
Fingers crossed, it wont kill my BT GPS unit connectivity.

good on you mate. was about to suggest this software (psshutxp). i've put a shortcut on my start menu to allow usage at any program. i'm using an ameo and it works great. and i confirm that it works with both gps and windows media / tcmp. i'm using tomtom 7 and when i ride my mountain bike my unit is in the net pocket of my backpack. obviously i can't see the screen but sounds are through my a2dp headset. so to save battery, i shut off the screen and simply listen to the directions.
cheers
exellent, thanks! Thats exactly what i need to do mate .... just a little bit faster
Not entirely sure this is "allowed" ...if not, please forgive me, sir moderator, sir...i don't mean any harm!
What i am looking for (perhaps it DOES exist, i'm just to useless to find it) is a wifi AND bluetooth toggling button (that i can use as a shortcut on my home screen)
I currently am using Dutty's Holy Grail R1 ROM and AKToggleWifi with great success! however, of the three icons on my start screen (yes, i haven't got the fourth one to work!?!) i do not have space to spare a seperate bluetooth toggle button.
It doesn't even have to be fancy...something like:
1 push - enable Wifi
2nd push - disable wifi
3rd push - enable bluetooth
4th push - disable bluetooth.
(i can't think of another way of getting it all working without a "hold" mechanism...maybe i am just THAT noob? lol)
I am willing to donate a beer or two (or coca-cola, sprite, hot chocolate, etc) to some1 who can make me a nice little cab...
any1 got any ideas?
I'm using Today Screen Radio Device Toggler which provides single-click interface to toggle your bluetooth/wifi/phone on and off directly from the Today Screen
Get it here;
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-today-screen-radio-device-toggler.html
Browse / search on this site for nice free HTC software. Also take a look at their 'desktop' site.
Have fun

I can give you a complete solution, using the buttons:
Camera button, wifi, bluethout toglle, reset, scroll down/up
app lanch
How's that???
In 4 simple steps:
1 - Install Keyboard Config
2 - Goto Setings
3 - Load My Configuration
4 - Donate to the App Developer His app rocks
YES! franklopez you are CORRECT! that is PERFECT! (also, thank you to Senax, it's nice, but Keyboard Config wins the day!)
I will donate to that man with a plan, tarkim!
GG!
I`m agree with you guys, keyboard config is a great app, it works just perfect on our Diamonds.
To have a shortcut to togle bluetooth/wifi in today screen, helps a lot but normaly when you realise that it is off, you have already the app that needs it open, then you need to go again to today screen to togle, with this app you can toggle bt/wifi, everywhere.
I found something interesting on the Amazon store I thought I would share, I found this is incredibly useful for me so hopefully is to someone else.
this should work on pretty much any Android device but I'm posting it here as it is the only one I can/have tested it on.
I cannot post links yet but it can be found on Amazon UK under the name "Satechi BT MediaRemote Bluetooth Multi-Media Remote Control"
It's a small Bluetooth remote for iPad/iPhone/Mac and very quietly mentions Android so I decided to buy one and see how it goes as I needed something like it for my car.
Anyway it arrived this morning and I love it, I've successfully used it and I've been able to remap keys using the "External Keyboard Helper Pro" app by "Apedroid" which allows remapping of keys to media keys or launching apps.
All keys on the remote can be remapped except the wireless symbol which un-pairs and goes into discover mode.
My requirements were a remote that allows me to change tracks while driving but it also got Google now working in my car Bluetooth system. (it did not connect properly when I launched it via car voice controls)
I have now got the keyboard button remapped to switch to the maps app and the mute button to launch Google now so once Google now is done I have a button to go back to the navigation screen .
I have also been fairly successful in getting this to work with Tasker however it required a small workaround by exporting the task as an app (via Tasker App Factory) and then using "External Keyboard Helper Pro" to launch it.
My only issue with the remote at the moment is that it connects as a hardware keyboard meaning I cannot type while using it (obviously not an issue in the car though)
All this was done on a non rooted Nexus 4 on 4.4.2 so root is not required by the way.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, I'm going to figure out how I can bind the other 9 keys on the remote
Oh and finally if you do use the app in question and use Tasker I'd recommend exporting a Tasker task which launches the intent "android.intent.action.VOICE_COMMAND" rather than using the built in voice control key setting.
Dude!! I have totally been looking for this! I like playing podcasts from my phone while I'm working in the garage, so I hook the phone up to my stereo but whenever I need to pause it or adjust the volume, I gotta go clean up or slide out from under the car... This will be perfect!! I'm totally ordering this right now!! Thanks brother (or sister?)!!

Could you please check if there are any answer call buttons or microphones on this thing? Personally I hope not because it happens so easy in your pocket.
