Hi guys, I'm pondering weither to plunk down $900 for the Touch Pro or just wait and upgrade from my iPhone to the ATT iteration of the device. Will there be any differences of specs between the two beside the US 3g band and missing front camera? Fuze is a lame name too...
Just wait till Sep 29th to get a fuze. It's the exact date. Now ask yourself these questions:
Want it locked or unlocked?
Want the keyboard of the touch pro or the fuze?
Want to pay $299/$399 (I didn't get specific price but was told it's one of these two) /w 2yr or $900 w/o plan?
I would agree but you know that HTC will put out a ROM that will enable all the bands as soon as the FUZE is released on at&t. Or if someone figures it out before then which I think will happen anyway.I have a feeling that they are locking it down in the US as per at&t so they can sell the FUZE instead of the unlocked version in the states. Lets face it. if you had a kaiser and tilt in front of you, which one would you take. And I know... The price difference is gonna be HUGE so we will see...

For me it an easy choice:
1. Dosen't matter, If locked we'll unlock it
2. I rather have the AT&T keyboard. Access to many of those little punctuations used when typing and the numbers clustered togeather so it easier to input numbers quickly.
3. $299/$399 with 2 years sounds much better than 3x that amount.

Just heard.
It's not going to be called the Fuze but the Touch Pro and the top row will be numbers not symbols.

I agree with this logic. i can't see myself paying 900 bones for the features that will be brought forth here by the XDA Goonies lol. other than the front facing camera which is the sht, i don't have any concrete reason not to wait for AT&T's version. Yes the standard ROM will be grotesquely bloated with AT&T's usual BS but a custom ROM can easily be flashed. So me personally I'll wait for AT&T. but so help me God if they delay this thing anymore.....

Don't know. That depends on where you're located. Like in cali, they do. Because 80% of at&t's marketshare is here. So yeah, here they probably would. I don't know about small states and such. But i bet they definitely will in large states. Oh btw, my 50% is off of retail pricing. The black friday deal will probably have contract deals and not retail deals.

wow youre 16? i wish i knew about smart devices when i was that young..im 23 and got into smart devices only about a year and a half ago..started with an mpx220 and it froze all the time and returned it for a cingular 2125 then realized i should have got a touch device (thought they were huge like dell x51v's) and got a 8525 then a tilt...so how did you come to know this contact who can get you 50% off retail?
but ya i live in cali and i dont mind renewing for 2 more years..i personally love att and ill tack on 2 more years to get this device but i plan on waiting JUST to see how it actually is once its available..see if its really worth it to upgrade..

Sure, it ain't perfect. Built in GPS, better memory, and getting the dang message/internet buttons off my ear made the difference for me. As long as I don't RLoD, I'm happy (knock on wood). I think my sig says it best.

Because the first ebay auction got messed up by some guy trying to scam. So I had to re-enlist the item with a different item number.

thanks for quicky reply. I have been monitoring fuze thread, and the consensus seems to be nov 4th. If i can get it tuesday from ATT fine, but im tired of waiting, and my e71 is getting boring. Any word on US 3G unlocked touch pro? Would prefer that over branded model due to exclusivity reasons.
The US 3G touch pro will release after the fuze does. AT&T has first dibs on releasing a GSM version of the touch pro. Sprint had dibs on releasing it first in the USA. I would really suggest you wait. I mean on black friday, last year it was 50% off /w new contract or renewal. That is kick ass. $150 for the fuze on black friday. I would definately wait for that.

waiting 22 days to save 150 is kind of worth it, but not really. Especially when your like me and must have your new toy as soon as its available.
And FWIW, negrielectronics, which is known to be a reliable site for unlocked phones, has the fuze listed for pre-release on 11/3/2008. But who knows, maybe they are going by the same info as we are? heres to hoping for the best.

Ok, so I have a decision to make, and only till Wednesday to make it ...
Currently, I have the Palm Treo Pro. It's a GOOD phone, I LOVE the keyboard and I love how small/light it is. I DO NOT like the proprietary USB of the "end" key as its uber sensitive. Also, most of my programs don't work on the screen (OliveTree Bible, Mud Inc. Pocket Cribbage, and Handmark Monopoly V1) ... so my other options are
HTC Diamond - I get $ back, but, I lose microSD Card or HTC Pro, I pay around $100 more, but I get the microSD Card slot and sliding keyboard.
WiFi is important, and I should point out, I am on the TELUS Network.

I can't wait 14-18 months for the TP2 (which is about how long Telus will take to get it *L* as they have ONLY had the Treo Pro for about a month!) ... I think I'll go on Wednesday and get the Touch Pro.
Then why don't U buy it unlocked from another country next month
Because Telus is CDMA but soon (2010) to be UMTS/HSPA

Ok some usefull info for you:
Diamond - has serious heat issues and its very well know to fry its own screen. HTC are constantly fighting people and refusing to repair faulty units. I owned one and then returned it as it could also not play music without jumping/skipping. Both these issues can be easily found by going to the Diamond section of these forums.
TouchPro - (not the TP2 as everyone else seems to have got confused over) Never owned one so comments are limited to what can be read on this forum but, I miss having a keyboard and am now ordering an Asus on Monday that has a keyboard. Typing an email on the Diamond was a pain in the a*&e and its only marginaly easier on the bigger screen of my Omnia.
Palm thingy - never owned one, never used one. Can't comment.
If I HAD to chose between these then in all honesty, i'd probably keep the Palm! Why? HTC build quality sucks donkey balls. Its a well known and easily googled reputation. Its a shame really as they spec out the phones very well and seem to have every intention of making excellent devices, just somewhere the penny pinchers seem to take control and quality drops.

OK so ... I was downtown yesterday, getting my Security Guard License and walked through Toronto Eaton Centre ... and I picked up the Touch Pro.
So far, I'm happy. I'm still testing things out and seeing what is good etc but ALL my games work, all my programs work AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED to, and I'm happy ...

Especially a phone that only does 3G at 2100MHz to use in a country that uses 850/1900.
So I have an upgrade through at&t and I was thinking about getting Palm Pré because I have some cash laying around. Maybe someone from here could give me a little feedback on the device? I'd keep my nexus but I'm just getting a little tired of it and I want something new for the time being.

I'm up for contract and thinking of the pre as well. But I have a hard time justifying it as the pre is over 1 year old already. And web OS rocks, but I'm not too sure about its hardware.
WebOS has some great things going for it as a mobile OS, but the market is just too crowded. You'd be backing a horse that isn't even in the race, let alone one that is behind.
WebOS is amazing. I convinced my brother to get it (long time Blackberry user) for Verizon when it came out in January and there were no good Android phones out (he didn't like the Droid).
However... You'd have to be insane to get locked into a new two year contract with a Palm Pre today. With HP backing them now, the Palm Pre 2 will probably be announced soon.
Purchasing 14 month old hardware is a terrible idea; you'll be regretting it less than a quarter of the way through your contract.
Personally, I would never buy another phone from today on that doesn't have a CPU faster than a Snapdragon.

I must say that I bought it and it is amazing. If you're thinking about it do it. Plus it came with a free touchstone. This phone is bad ass and the pre plus has wel hardware. Not as solid as the nex butdoesnt feel cheap like the original palm pre

Getting ripped off though since Verizon's Pre is $30 and AT&T's is $150. AND Verizon's has free mobile hotspot enabled.

I didn't even know the pre was on verizon either. lol I'm so out of the loop.

The pre wasn't an investment. Why would anyone consider this an investment? The only thing I invested in was signing another two year contract with att.
And by the way ill spend my money however I please. It wasn't a loss or anything. The phone is actually nice and the OS is great. I have a phone that runs on every major OS (bb9000, iPhone, nexus, magic, touch pro) and I wanted to simply add this to my collection. If you guys have problems then voice yourselves nicely.

my only concern is the community isnt big enough as the desire was at tgis time last year! everyones moving on to the dual cores

every one here has the same concerns too...hope the community gets bigger..there has been a recent increase in the number of people here hope it gets better
but i can tell you that the build quality of the DS is much better than the galaxy s i fell it also looks better & is the correct size...but peoples tastes differ...

yeh, is this also going to make a US release? if not our community will be qute small and there will be very little development. TBH, i cant see many peopl going for this device. they will mostlikely to forward with the dual core phones...Thats probably why o2 have mad it cheap - not many ppl are buying it

It depends who's working I guess.
You just ask if it comes with a case, if he says no, ask him/her what cases are available. Then look, then say that the cases are expensive for what they are and say you HAVE to have a case like its OCD. Then walk off. Or say another company like phones4u have offered you a better deal. Then carphonewarehouse may give you an even better deal.
EDIT: And just make sure you know your stuff and not make things obvious. If you have been with carphonewarehouse for a while and you are due an upgrade but want to cancel, they are most likely to give you a great deal on a newer contract, but won't not a new phone, to keep you with them. My sister is on a 24months contract few hundred mins, unlimited text+internet for £15 a month with 14 months free.
They all negotiate to get commission. As long as the deal doesn't make them a loss than they should be fine.

You just ask if it comes with a case, if he says no, ask him/her what cases are available. Then look, then say that the cases are expensive for what they are and say you HAVE to have a case like its OCD. Then walk off. I'm a payg customer anyway with a contract on giffgaff. so i only get simfree phones. (or can be unlocked)

Looks like this may be the way to go rather than buying SIM free, which is about £380...
These guys claim to be able to unlock any HTC phone for $15.75 too (about £10).

I might wait until the Desire S gets rooted though, and by that time the price will have dropped more - especially when the dual cores are out. I hope so anyway.

Yes I noticed before that you said they will unlock it for free, but I'm not convinced! (no offence!)
I went to the o2 store yesterday and they said you have to wait 3 months before you can unlock it and will cost £15.
