Is there any way to make WM 6.1 (i have a vogue if that matters) to go on forced roam only for the phone services? I am using sprint.
When i use the registry edit for adding the roam only, it automatically goes on both data and phone rather than just phone. I get great coverage for EVDO from sprint but bad for phone - so it would be better if i can roam only phone. Also, i dont get free data roaming.
Thanks
Modaco!
I advice you use the Modaco software called 'Nodata'; works perfect on my HTC.
Good luck!
thanks for the reply.
the problem is that i have a data plan on my account just not free roaming so if there is anyway to use roaming phone service but keep using sprints EVDO coverage it would be great.

First off, I'm a T-mobile USA customer. I just bought the T-mobile Sensation 4g. This is my upgrade from the T-mobile HD2 (3G phone) which I still have.
I get decent 3G internet connectivity on the HD2 but no internet connectivity at all on the Sensation 4G (not even the slower EDGE data speeds). The 4g icon shows on the Sensation but I cannot connect to anything requires internet connectivity. I can only make phone calls. I checked all the data settings on the phone and everything looks to be in order. The mobile network is connected, the network mode is gsm/wcdma auto, the network operator is t-mobile, the apn is epc.tmobile.com, and the "enable always-on mobile data" box is checked.
Can anyone help / advise me on this? I'm not sure if it's a sim card or data plan issue. I searched the threads but did not find an answer.
If I were you I would take it back to t mobile and get a new one

I didn't buy it from t-mobile (but from a private seller). I put another person's t-mobile sim card in the phone and it connected to the internet and accessed websites immediately. This is why I'm thinking it's either my sim card or my data plan (it's definitely not the phone). Again, my sim card in my HD2 (3G phone) gets internet connection just fine. I don't want to upgrade the data plan if I don't have to. I'm grandfathered into my current plan with unlimited text and web for $59.99 (no contract). I don't trust customer service (they will say anything to get you to switch to a higher priced plan and a 2-year contract - they're calling me almost everyday now to try to switch me to a contract plan - I won't even answer the phone when I see the number). I'd rather for someone who knows what's going on to tell me the truth rather than t-mobile customer service lying to me just to get me to spend more money (lol).
check your HD2's APN settings
write them down and change your APN settings on yr sensation
apn settings are the same on both devices (epc.tmobile.com). Thanks.
What data plan are you using? When I switched from a BlackBerry to an Android device I had to call tmo and get on the right data plan.

I got the smartphone unlimited web data plan. It came bundled with my even more plus phone plan. I was using it with my HD2 and got decent 3G speeds no problem. Is it possible that because the HD2 is officially a windows mobile phone that my data plan may not be "android compatible"? Note that I was running android on my HD2 and getting data just fine without having to do anything.

That might be the problem, I think all android phones need the "android data"

You need to change your data plan. Call customer care and tell then you now have an android phone. They can adjust your plan accordingly and without a change in cost.
I had this same problem when I picked up mine. It's an easy fix.

ok. looks like i gotta call t-mobile. they scare me. they called me last week, said my plan was no longer available, my service would be disrupted and then tried to switch me over to a contract plan (not asking me if i want to switch but telling me i'm "eligible" for another plan and actually tried to just switch me right over the phone - i hung up the phone). That's crazy. They've been calling me practically everyday since (automated call - once you answer, they put on a live customer service rep). I don't plan to switch. So I'm gonna call them and try to get my connectivity issue sorted out and hoping they don't start badgering me to switch plans. I think they just want to get me out of my "cheap" plan (500 minutes, unlimited text, smartphone unlimited data - $59.99). Even though they discontinued the even more plus plans, I should be grandfathered. Anyway.........
Data Issue Resolved
Thanks everyone for your input. It turns out that it was the data plan. I was not aware that t-mobile has a data plan sepcifically for android devices (go figure). They switched me to an android data plan (at no extra cost). I'm now up and running data just fine on my Sensation. As trivial as this was (to you guys) it was very important to me. Again, thanks.
I'll visit a retail store in your area and inquire about their Best Value Plan ever. $49.99/month unlimited minutes, text and data. It's only available in retail stores.

they don't have a specific data plan. it's all the same stuff. it's just their way of getting all of us older customers off of our non-tiered data plans to their "Android Approved" (i wish there was a sarcasm font) tiered data plans at a higher cost. what they did is see that you had a newer phone on an older plan & blacklisted your IMEI until you switched over. If you would have put your SIM back in the HD2 it would've worked perfectly.
OK, I don't care about the data and stuff my phone is mostly connected to Wi-Fi. I just need to be able to make calls and I don't even get a bar on EDGE. So is there a way to force my Infuse to roam on T-Mobiles network, they have a tower right down the road. Phone is rooted and has Infused v2.1.0 rom but when I go to the network selection it "sees" T-Mobile but when I try to connect it says: Your SIM unable to connect to this network. Thanks in advance for the help!
Are you using a T-Mobile sim?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
No, I just figure since there is no signal and I do get roaming with my plan wouldn't it just be able to connect if there is a lack in coverage? If not there has to be a way to... Right?
If the phone can pick up any bit of AT&T signal, you can't roam, and your area also has to have a roaming agreement with T-Mobile to roam.
If your phone is unlocked why not get a T-Mobile sim? Prepaid is cheap if you need the service. Roaming can be expensive if you don't have a roaming option.

Rats! well looks like the only options are to get a T-Mo SIM or call and complain or hopefully wait maybe in a couple of years after the buy-out they will light up that tower so I can use it...
Thanks for replying.
Yeah there's a lot of places where AT&T and T-Mo have no roaming whatsoever.
For example, at least back in 2008, putting a T-Mo SIM into a phone anywhere within 15 miles of my apartment would cause that phone's IMEI to get blacklisted by the towers for 15-20 minutes, even after putting the AT&T SIM back in. (I had a friend that was on T-Mo - put her phone into my Tilt and it didn't work. Put my SIM back into the Tilt and it STILL didn't work and stayed that way for 15-20 minutes.)
Whats weird is I got a message from them saying that they had lit up a new tower 5 miles east of Oregon City... a lot of help that does in the area I live in. COME ON! I've used that Mark the spot app and called (even from other accts cuz I know they have to get enough complaints) and the service still sucks! But before u tell me to change providers the only other with decent service is T-Mo plus I'm on a contract with 5 different phones with all staggered contract end dates.
VENTING: One other thing that kinda irks me is how they know when u take the sim and put it in a data phone then the automagically charge u the most expensive data plan when u only use 10-20 MB's then when u call them to change it to the cheaper plan they give you the run around...
You can get an at&t micro cell to boost you're signal. It works off your internet/cable router. Works pretty good, but if it switches from micro cell back to data or vice versa can cause dropped calls. Just an option.
this is why i want this attmobile to go through! able to access att + tmobile towers!
SO I unlocked my Sidekick earlier in order for there to be more of a market for it when I sell it, but when I popped in my friends AT&T sim card there seemed to be no data connection, anyone know why there wouldnt even be EDGE or anythng>
I have the same issue. Got this sidekick, read on here how to root it and unlock it. Called att to update my imei code, went to an att store to have them get me a new 4g sim card, aaaaand I have no data what so ever.
The only thing I've read on some random android forum I found, was that this sidekick uses a different radio freq unsupported by att. And something to the nature of since "sidekick" is a tmobile exclusive phone, tmobile has some 3rd party data service provider for it. And that service providor, since its a private co, has

Sorry, accidently hit submit. So that 3rd party data provider has sole control over all sidekick data connections. Possibly like how you need a blackberry plan for blackberrys to utilize bbm. I'm not sure. Again, I only found these 2 reasons on some random forum, and they were not repeated elsewhere, so I don't know how accurate this is.
It sucks for me bc I have unlimited data too, not capped off at 2gb/month like the current plans.

Im in kind of the same situation. I let my friend take over my ATT phone because it had unlimited data and I didnt wana cancel so I just got the Sidekick prepaid plan to easily tranistion to my ATT sim but I was dissapointed when It owuldnt even pick up EDGE

That sidekick data thing was for the old sidekicks when they ran danger's OS it doesn't apply to ours because it is android.
Sucks you guys are having this issue, i would go into your connections menu and try messing around with those settings
When you switch over to a different network you have to change your phone's APN settings. I went to europe this summer and got 3G over there the entire time with their SIM cards.
to get to APN settings go to SETTINGS>WIRELESS&NETWORKS>Mobile Networks>Access point names....
Now you'll have to create an APN depending on what your network is, you should have a T-Mobile one by default, but to get the proper settings, you can just do a google search for "(your network) APN settings" or call your provider
Oh ok thanks! All I did was connect to a default network
Ok so I know I'm a noob when it comes to some things on here, but I think this is a legitimate question so bare with me.
Basically, I have to move back home to Trenton, FL because of personal family issues. The problem is that I get absolutely NO service from T-Mobile over there. (It's horrible) I have a rooted and unlocked G2x for T-Mobile/ATT. My question is; can I simply purchase an ATT sim card and use their network back home without having to shut off my T-Mobile account and switch to ATT? From what I've researched, I'm pretty sure it's possible to "Borrow" service from ATT's towers over there with an unlocked T-Mobile phone and a data plan, but I'm not 100% sure. It's not a huge deal, but I'd like to know the answer before I actually move. Thanks!
Can someone please give me an accurate answer?
In short, no. If you want to use Att's cell towers but have a tmo subscription that would be considered roaming. If you had an att SIM you'd have to have service from them, it wouldn't be service from tmo. You could get some sort of roaming plan (I think) from tmo that would allow you access to the att towers.
I appreciate the help, but I'm pretty sure I have roaming from T-mobile. At least, I think I do, cause I think I've roamed before cause I've seen the symbols E and G on my service bar before. Hopefully this is good news! So I guess I'll just have to ask T-Mobile and see what's up.
The t-Mobile rep told me that wherever there is no tmo service you will piggy back on att's network for free. I've done it with both att and cellular one.
Call them and ask to be sure. But you shouldn't need to get a new att sim.

Wouldn't bother calling about this...
1) To roam onto AT&T's network, they would have to have a roaming agreement in place. They only pay for roaming agreements in areas where A) They realllly realllly need to have coverage, and B) They don't already have coverage. If T-Mobile already has coverage in an area, they won't pay for an AT&T Roaming agreement. Even if it is bad coverage.
2) If you put an AT&T Sim in the an unlocked phone, then it will have nothing to do with T-Mobile while the AT&T Sim is in there... that is, as said above, you would need to have a service plan with AT&T and as such a new phone number, bill, etc...
3) You can't add a special roaming plan. They don't exist. You get all the roaming that's available already. Now, if you go OVERSEAS that's different - you have to call to add INTERNATIONAL roaming, but that's done so you don't get charged for international roaming without having been warned first. But for within the US, no, you can't get additional roaming on your T-Mobile plan...
The sad thing is, Roaming used to be a lot more common. Wireless services have gotten so competitive, however, that many of those old roaming agreements are dead and gone. Nobody's willing to share their networks any more.
If you bought an AT&T SIM and use that in the G2x, then you would simply be an AT&T customer, except I don't think G2x supports AT&T's 3g band, so you'll just have EDGE.
If T-Mobile doesn't have coverage where you're going, you can call them and terminate your service with T-Mobile, provided that you have proof that you moved there, and T-Mobile has zero coverage in the town you moved to. Otherwise, either keep your TMO account alive, or you have to pay a contract termination fee.
Damn guys I'm glad you told me all of this, especially the part about proving where I'm moving. That's awesome, now I don't have to pay two cell phone bills. Hells yes.
