WM 6.1 and Exch2007 ActivSync error - Any way to use 6.0 AS? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

With certain Exchange 2007 configurations WM 6.1 experiences an error with sending messages. Basically when an email is sent the Activesync window locks up on a white screen and the message will stay in the outbox getting resent every time the phone syncs. The only way to stop the message from being resent is to go to the outbox and manually delete the message.
MS is releasing a patch (not until Nov/Dec though) and is allowing people to request it now. I work for a large company though that will not install the patch until it has been extensively tested, and who may wonder why I reflashed my phone anyway
I am currently using Kumaras ROM and am very happy with it, and the issue is not ROM specific at all (happened for me on Dutty's and Laurentius's ROMS as well).
This issue however is forcing me to go back to 6.0, but I would love to stay with the 6.1 ROMs that are being released.
So my question is - does anyone know of any alternative to Activesync that connects with exchange, or any way to downgrade Activesync that would correct this?

I don't think there will be any client side fix, but thought I would ask before I start researching the 6.0 ROMs.
Oh and feel free to recommend a 6.0 ROM! It's been ahwile so I can't remember - I think Alex's were my favorites but it has been many flashes since I tried one.
Cheers,
Matt

bumping once to see if anyone has anything to say on this....
Cheers

well technically, a chef cannot just drop in AS from WM6.0 into a WM6.1 ROM.
activesync is not its own package. parts of it are in OS and Shell. replacing OS and Shell with WM6.0 components would kind of defeat the purpose.

Has anyone found a client side fix for this other than dowgrading to a 6.0 ROM.

What's so great about WM6?

Hi,
While I am waiting for my MDA Pro to arrive, I have been reading a lot in the Universal section (have a BA myself).
May I ask for some valid reasons why someone would want to use homebrewed WM6 releases instead of official/customized WM5?
I do understand the fun it is to try out new things, but is it really worth it? I did not find many posts that would clear this question.
Thanks,
vma
WM6.0...
The new look and a lot faster device...
Is there any feature that won't be available with WM6, that did work fine in WM5?
Thanks,
vma
Video call isn't working yet.

The way I see it, WM6 may or may not work for you and may or may not do it for you. Try it. You can always go back to WM5. Most people don't.....
Well .... the simple answer is that I did a lot of searching and reading, and finally tried it out for myself.
I asked this very question a while ago right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1130569&postcount=88
And came to the follwowing conclusion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1155497&postcount=89
In the conclusion, the thing about the Bluetooth Stack / Voice Command - it was actually Voice Command that was the problem and this issue was fixed in Jrwightmcps' 2.02.00 WWE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297256
Crossbow ONLY!
Tell you the truth... i see the new WM6 is better eye-catching GUI not to mention the enhancement in the functionality and other usability such as email related functions. I know that MS wont just upgrade for no obvious reason nor for desktop OS compatibility.
Yet i reckon i wont -never- go back to magento! Crossbow ONLY!
@nvatvani:
Indeed your posts where the only ones I read, that contained some usefull info about the subject.
No offense to all the other members of course!
I was simply wondering about what to do when my MDA Pro arrives: replace the German firmware with a WWE WM5 one or go straight ahead to WM6 without even looking at WM5.
Also, I had some problems with my Blue Angel, when I tried WM5 on it: it may have been a coincidence, but one day after the upgrade the screen went mad and totally messed up. Only 1 Hardreset in about 100 tries would bring it back to normal for some period of time and even reflashing it with WM5 or 2003SE would not make it work normal again. The screen would get messed up suddenly for no particular reason. At the end I had to send it in for repair, which was actually a good thing, as I complained about the loose stylo and bad working hardkeys, all within warranty. I got a new key-pcb, backside and they reflashed the device with 2003SE. I posted this issue in the BA forum, but got no usefull hint. This means I am a little scared of upgrading to unofficial releases.
Other than that, I have no problems with flashing, as I do that on my other hobby (satellite receivers) frequently, including JTAG-operations for repairing bricked devices. The same applies to games consoles. (Note: I do not sell or benefit commercially from that activity and my goal is not to get illegal software or TV - not that you guy's get the wrong idea about me).
Anyway, thanks for your replies!
Cheers,
vma
What Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU 2.0 has and Windows Mobile 6 (the cooked ones, having tried them all) doesn't have, according to my experiences:
1. Videocalling - at least not a proper one
2. Bluetooth Dial Up Networking (the DUN profile)
3. Wireless Modem (yet some WM6 ROM's have it, although without shortcut in the start menu)
4. Cyberon Voice Dial by default (some WM6 ROM's have it by default, others will need a 500kB CAB to activate it)
The reason why I went back to "good old" WM5 is mainly the reliability. Ok, the OS may be a bit slower here and there, but it has all the functionality (e.g. videocalls and Bluetooth DUN), and NEVER hangs. It just always works and that's what I desperately need right now.
---
The things Windows Mobile 6 has for me that 5.0 hasn't which I miss the most:
1. High resolution browsing in the normal Internet Explorer (I don't want to use alternatives)
2. HTML email support
3. The impressive speed of the OS
Applications like WM6's Windows Live and the superb Remote Desktop Client are also available for WM5, so I don't need to miss those, otherwise I sure would, and then I might have sticked with WM6.
The new sounds and GUI are great, but I don't really miss them, since that's not a true functional thing.
Having WM5 up and running again, without freezes and memory leaking and with full HTC Universal functionality, is enough for me to be happy with it and to stick with it. If there ever will be a ROM that actually ADDS Windows Mobile 6 on top of all of this (without a single registry tweak or CAB fix needed), then it's the time for me to upgrade again.
If such a ROM will ever see the daylight, since it won't be officially available for the Universal, I don't know. I think the HTC X7500 (Athena) will be there sooner (April 2007 over here), and that one will have a official WM6 upgrade for sure. That'll be my next one, so until then: WM5 for my Universal!
So far for my opinion.
why do I use WM6

To be honest, I used them all and later delteted them after 5 2 hours. They leak a lot, ram is at minimum and useless third party applications, and a lot fo thing sodn't really work or missing (I just want a vanill aone without 3rd party applications).
Except for one rom, Darkforce, it is fast and furious, and so far I have using it for two days; battery usage is good, and no leaks. However, no video calling, and no way to set com ports for bluetooth devices. any1 has this problem?
However, common to all ROMS, no video calling, old calculator, speed dial messed up (some work and some don't), wireless connection bubble missing (yes you can install a cab but I don't want to do that).
<Mind you, contrary to other reports, I never had any freezes with any rom.
The thing that attracts me is HTML in email, High resolution mode in explorer, better remote desktop connectivity.
So I thhink I am sticking with DarkForce ROM, so far so good.
Thx

ActiveSync Error 86000107 - possible cause: ringtones!

As many others I've had the error message 86000107 during ActiveSync synchronization. In my case the cause was the multiple change of ringtones on the PPC using 'VIP PIM Ringtone' (used version, see signature). Think, the cause was not using the tool but having changed >100 contacts at once.
Solution in ActiveSync on PC:
Uncheck 'contacts' in synchronization options. Take care: This will delete your contacts on PPC and your individual assignments of ringtones to contacts, too!
Confirm Deletion.
Synchronize without having 'contacts' checked. Now everything could work fine.
Check the option 'contacts' again.
Synchronize having 'contacts' checked.
Now try assigning individual ringtones again. But check synchronization after each assignment. Perhaps you find out more (ringtone not proper? ...).
llok like it is Active sync 4.5 with Wm6.1 device
Look look like if many changes happend between two sync then Active sync 4.5 with wm6.1 produce error.

Sorry to double post the same thing but
I don’t think its to do with the amount of data changed to be synced ,I have desk top cradle at home and in the office and I stand the phone in the cradles to charge and even if I have not changed any data the issue still happens ??
But if I un check JUST THE CONTACTS let the device sync it is ok if I then check contacts its ok again ,that is until it see the other pc this happen when no data has been changed on pc1 pc1 or ppc
Actually, it is the amount of information, but it isn't just ringtones. If you have more than 100 of anything, it will cause this error. 100 contacts, 100 appointments, 100 tasks, 100 notes, anything. Since I have far more than 100 (1300 contacts, 397 appointments in the next 2 weeks), I get the error every time I switch from one computer to another. There is a solution, but nobody is as yet releasing it. Microsoft has acknowledged it is a WM 6.1 problem, and they have supposedly released a patch, AKU 1.2. But either it has not actually been released, or all the providers are currently evaluating it and won't admit it.
I wrote HTC earlier today inquiring about the AKU 1.2 patch, and got the response that my provider would have to release it for them to provide it on their site. My provider is US Cellular. I called tec support, the original rep had no idea what I was talking about, but he transferred me to the tec support specifically for smartphones, and talked with a rep. She also didn't know about the problem, but searched their knowledge base. She first tried to give me the "solution" many have tried (removing the relationship, etc.), then she found the AKU 1.2 patch I had told her was the real solution, and acknowledged this was the real answer. Unfortunately, she says that Microsoft has not yet released the patch. My complaint was noted, but she said there was nothing to do until Microsoft released the patch. My response was that they needed to call Microsoft and complain, just I was doing with US Cellular.
I suggest that everyone needs to start calling your provider and asking when the patch will be made available. We need to light some fires. If I'm the only unhappy customer, that's too bad. If they start getting lots of unhappy customers, perhaps they will become a little more motivated. I seem to have been the first unhappy person to have called US Cellular.
To cut down the time you have to stay on hold, if you are a US Cellular customer, here's the direct # for the tec center that deals with smartphones: 888-996-5499
BTW, one suggestion the rep had was to reinstall WM6.1. "It won't hurt anything". I installed 6.1 it at the beginning of the week, and just got everything the way I liked it, including installing TouchFlo 2D. Even with backing stuff up, this isn't the solution I'm looking for. Has anyone else tried this? Does anyone want to? Can anyone see a reason why installing it a second time would make it work, when Microsoft has acknowledged they have a problem?
... i faced the same problem... founding finally the best solution - promissed.
Just use Pocket Mirror Prof. for Calendar, Tasks and Contacts. Notes u can still use with AS.
It will sync 100% without probs, much faster and seeing what is left.
(contacts about 4500, 3500 calendar entries in 30 min.)

So your solution is to buy a $50 program, instead of MS fixing their problem? This sounds like the spam another thread warning noobs was talking about.
MS have fixed the problem in later AKU releases - it's down to the vendor to implement the fix on within their ROM's...
The HTC Diamond has been fixed, the Pro will be fixed, the HD will not have the problem, etc. etc.
Grey handsets are the Dual, Cruise, TyTN 2 and x7510 - this all use AKU1.2 so shall be affected the the '107' problem.
If your handset is branded, you will need to petition them in order for the fix to be released.

First of all, I agree on that "MS needs to to fix that".
By the way, I talked to MS and I talked to SE, both linked to each others.
In differrent forums, the topic is hot without any proofen tested "YES it works".
For this reason, I open to pay an amount for a working solution.... and meanwhile, where other people are trying to fix and to fix and to fix.... I go riding my snowboard, knowing everything works
How is that....
error message
The '100' contacts error message cropped up on my touch pro today - Im back in xda land after my mini-s died when water entered my jacket pocket on my motorbike! The xda finally came back to life....but its backlight didnt.... ah well. I played with a google G1 for three weeks before crawling back to winmo...fancy that. Android is so much easier to use than windows mobile...shame about the hardware.... but soon..... soon...
Anyway im just about to reinstall the 690 contacts on my pro - Im only posting because I happen to notice I have 90 entries in my calendar! ooo close one!
Time goes by without a working solution.
Any help yet?

SMS Vulnerability impacting WM devices?

I read from this article:http://www.macrumors.com/2009/07/31/apple-to-release-fix-for-iphone-sms-vulnerability-on-saturday/
It says the vulnerability impacts our WM phone as well. Anyone has checked that and if fix is available? Tried using Google to search our beloved forum but didn't pop up anything yet ..
I read about this too and if it can be patched that quickly on Android then I'd hope it should also be a quick patch on WinMo, especially as the SMS functionality is implemented in pretty much the same way apparently.
Plus XDA has people who are working with Android so maybe they can share what changes Google have made?
I am fairly surprised this hasn't been picked up by the technical bods here as it is quite a major vulnerability and Apple and Google have patched their OS's so WinMo is trailing behind... unless someone knows of a patch thats already been done?
I'm going to PM some mods I know ..
Any response from them yet?
Our good Dave is going to check with some resident expert.. and hopefully some lights to be shed.
From the info I gathered, it actually result in DOS for iPhone and Android, but no news/confirmation on WM yet. So we don't know. However, given the method explored by the author, it's likely at minimum resulting the same (DOS, phone hung, etc.). I think, for phone user, this is critical, as you can't spend your day checking the phone always just to make sure it's still connecting to network/operators.
From what I read the vulnerability could allow for remote code execution including reading your phone's storage and activating cameras and gps. So someone could write an app that send this information back via the data connection and that person could be watched and tracked without knowing that there were compromised.
This is obviously worst case scenario but I for one would sit on the paranoia side of the fence and get it plugged. If we can.
From what I got and discussion, it's mostly DOS.
However, IMO, it still scary. You can't be contacted nor SMS-ed without you realizing until you need to initiate call/ connection.
For someone most of the time on receiving side (doctors, etc) it's really a danger. I do hope our resident expert can find out something, as I don't think MS will be doing it.
You may want to read this article where they interview one of the guys that found the vuln...

Charlie: Collin's framework also works on Android and WinMobile. We found some denial of service bugs in Android (which we reported and are fixed) and a pretty bad bug in the way HTC WinMobile phones handle SMS messages containing the format specifier %n. That's a fun one because you don't need any special tools to send the malicious message, just use your phone to text your buddy with %n and their TouchFlo (application manager) will crash and won't come back up.

I believe the current HTC handsets come with WM6.1 now as standard, either HTC or Operator flavoured. As this is a forum for all HTC devices on WM5.0/6.0/6.1/6.5 can we have some testing done on stock ROM's on stock devices please?
I'm going to send a %n text to my buddy's phone and see.
At least now the thread is getting some attention. My concern is for people (like me) that rely more on receiving call/SMS than making call/sending SMS. A crashed network connection will result in no phone at all.
How'd the testing go and any movement on patching?
Just sent myself a %n message but nothing happened. On TPC v10.9 on M2D (Mega's M2D)
My friend is now using custom ROM .. so no try there. I don't have OEM that has M2D ..
What about just trying it on a bog standard WM6.1 OEM ROM from an operator.
Can do .. later perhaps when I'm changing ROM again. I thought it only crashes M2D? No OEM for Kaiser has M2D ..
Reviving this thread because iPhone is vulnerable. Not sure if IE also on our Kaiser? Opera?

WM 6.1 Text's Not Registering Properly

So I am running Ryan Moguls WM 6.1 Build 21054 V3.0 Heavy on my XV6800 (Verizon) and am having a problem with the text's not registering properly as I receive them. This also occurred on DCD's ROM when I had my phone flashed to that. The problem is that if I'm messaging someone and I leave the page open and get a new text, it does not register and I have to close and open it every time I get new text from that person for them to register. Don't know if anyone else has encountered this and if they have, is there a fix. Only other thing I can offer is I can see Build 21055 is out and I don't know if this addresses the issue. I spoke with Ryan but about all I got outa him was that he doesn't remember seeing this on his V1.1 and the equivalent of muttering about something to do with arcsoft.
Thanks

Contact tab lockups - Issue with Manila 2.5.2012 or newer - Exchange sync

Dear all,
I'm facing a problem with all ROMs including the new versions of Manila 2.5.2012 and newer, which is driving me crazy.
Roms work ok, but after sync with my work's exchange account (exchange 2007 sever), Manila suddenly start to freeze continuously. Specially when accessing HTC People which is checking the emails received from each contact.
I spent long hours trying to find out what could be the problem, flashed several different ROMs, task29, hard rested, and made several test with different configurations and always the same problem. I can't have my corporate exchange email and run Manila 2.5.2012.
Edit:
After investigation, it seems that this problem affect other people (including HD2 users) and no only with exchange.
Problem is related to the package Contact Utility engine.
I tried cooking with the newer packages, but I got the problem, so I'm stuck with Manila 2.5.1921
The problem appears when you have a complex email folder structure on your email account (many folders and subfolders), large quantity of contacts with several emails and details on each contact or when you have or restore large quantity of SMSs.
When you click on a contact, Manila.exe and filesys.exe use 100% of the CPU, blocking the device.
Question:
Does someone knows how manila handles the filesys.exe?
Do you know what polices your IT department pushes to any mobile device?

The only major difference I found are the Exchange server policies loaded on my device when I set up the activesync connection.
As normal in these cases my IT dept is not helping.

I'll appreciate your guidance.

thanks for your replies.
I gave a try to the "Stay Unlocked" utility, works nice, but only prevent the lock to be installed, other policies seems to be applied.
It created the log (attached), with all the policies downloaded to the phone, but not detailed enough to understand which one has been applied and which is the registry key that could be creating the problem.
I'm running out of ideas...
HI
I'm just having the same issue
I have post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675661
I have found that if I just sync contacts manila is fast. But If I sync contacts and Emails, every time I got to contact detail is very slow, caling a diferent number of the contact can take 10 secs.. If I select the email tab of the contact is slow also.
All these slowdowns are fixed if I don't sync the emails..
Did you find a solution?
Thanks!
Note: like you with mabila 2.5.19 everything is fast but with manila is > 2.5.2012 then There are slowdowns..
Hi,
No, I haven't found a solution yet.
I've seen that you are on a HD2, which is much faster than my blackstone. If you are having problems with 1 Ghz, I'm dead....
I've been looking if posible to extract the HTC people from Manila 2.5.1920 and install over the 2.5.2012, but I didn't time to try, and It also doesn't seem to be easy as Manila is quite complex. Maybe NRGZ28 could help (Please!)
Have you tried to ask your IT dept to remove the IT policies and try again after a hard reset? My IT people sucks and not helping...
BTW, I had to flash an old 2.5.1920 Rom....
I am facing the same but not syncing with Exchange but with Lotus Notes and the "Traveller" sync software.
Only with ML 1.5 WWE from Dutty it is working at the moment.
Best regards,
dingolino

hi .
yes this is a manila problem but I'm not sure if is a exchange policy problem .
I have an exchange 2010 server, I have check the policies all are set as default , no modifycations. no password lock etc.. I have check the report email on the sync process and there are no errors .
also there are other users with lotus so.. I don't think is a policy problem. this is just a software problem and is related to my post. people tab makes a lookup to emails and this change has been introduced on manila 2.5.20 . on manila 2.5.19 there is a lookup but only when you select the email tab of the contact .
I have install a manila kitchen to see if I can find some think..
I will post more info on my post

I've seen your post and notice that there are more people having the same problem.
What it's really strange it's that not all the people using exchange is facing the problem. This is what it's making me think that it's related to the config of the server.
Let's see if the newer manila version works better.

I have the problem, too. No idea what the solution is, but wanted to let you guys know the problem is affecting others, too.
packages to CAB
Hi,
Does someone know how to make a cab from a Manila package?
I tried with the tools found in the forum, but it's really complicated.
I'd like to create the cabs with the packages mentioned on the first post.
Thanks
moved to the right forum, please post in the correct forums.
same problem with manila 2.16 ....
I don't know what else to try
Hi,
the only solution I found up to now is to reduce the folders/subfolders that I have in the exchange inbox, in order that the manila contact engine can have a ligther cemail.vol and do the email search by contact faster.
After cooking my own ROMs I found that the package which is creating the problem is the Contact Utility engine.
I tried to cook the old contact utility engine with newer Manila versions, but they crash, so still stuck on Manila 2.5.1921...
