SPB Backup 2 gets stuck while restoring! - General Topics

Hey there
I have bought this fine piece of software but iam having trouble with it!
I am mainly going to use it for restoring after rom upgrading (These days a new "must-try" rom comes out allmost every day!)
I can make full backups with without any problems, but when i try to restore after a rom upgrade it gets stuck at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. The box stops spinning around and it nothing happens.. Only solution is a soft reset!
I have tried to Force Rom Upgrade mode but that does not help either..
Anyone that knows of this?

It works, disable close all running programs in the menu and try...

I've used the SPB restore function several times without problems. You might try posting a message in SPBs support forum... They might have seen this before.

Help!!! Raphael Elite project + spb restore = locked out!!!

Hi All,
As the title describes, I've just upgraded from standard HTC Touch Pro rom to Elite project rom... Everything was kind of ok until I did an spb restore - now when i boot the device up, it asks me for my pin/password, which i remember correctly, but whatever i type in, it doesn't unlock!
I've searched the forums and found this thread which describes the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381722 - However, they mention hard resetting the device using softkeys, but the Touch Pro doesn't seem to have 'hardware' soft keys and u cant press both at the same time on the screen.... Also, I'm pretty sure I unchecked "use previous password" when restoring..
I'm really stuck, and can't use my phone.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks.
Alek.

After doing a ROM upgrade with such a major difference (from stock ROM to Elite ROM) it's a very bad idea to restore a backup.
I personally never restore backups but simply re-install my apps. (you can use UC to make that faster)
I think when you do a fresh install everything will work much smooter / more stable.
Thanks very much, I guess I just panicked a bit because it happened as I was leaving work (bad time to do it) and thought I wasn't going to have the phone for the evening.
The reset worked as described in that link and I restored a much more selective backup. I remember this problem happening before on my Hermes but its been over a year since ive done it and simply forgot to restrict the system files from being restored. The password thing was odd though, I'm sure I had that set right..
Oh well, all's well again for now. Thanks again.

Phone crashing.

Its been 3 nights in a row I've had the phone mess up after a nights charging. Specifically, I unplug the phone and begin to use it until I realize my program files are completely missing. No app will launch, and eventually the phone just freezes requiring a reset. Without actually hard resetting, the phone does this itself just by pressing the reset button.
I've restored it and had the same thing happen, and today, figuring it was just the charging over night issue, I soft reset the phone. It wasn't a soft reset, the phone hard reset itself again. What in gods name could possibly be causing this? I suspect the registry is corrupting or something, but even flashing a different ROM doesnt appear to fix it. (unless possibly a file i restore with spb backup is corrupt?)
I would try to install a new ROM (maybe ROMeOS 1.90 or the original ROM that came with the TP), hardreset the TP and run it without restorimg a backup from SPB the first days. So you can test wether the SPB Backup is corrupted. Did you take out the battery for an hour or more?

I've flashed back a ROM and restored to see if it'll do it again. I had the most problems this morning when I restored a backup onto a different ROM so I'll see if it does the same thing if I flash back to the ROM the backup was from. (note: I didnt restore system files)
My best guesses are:
Corrupt backup
Corrupt backup - PIM component
ROM issues - Faulty flashing?
Malfunctioning rilphone.dll (I noticed this morning the phone reported I had no service although edge was active)
Charging issues (swapped battery incase)
What effect would having the battery out for an hour be?
I've had the same problem recently although I don't use spb backup, I have posted about it here:

So far after flashing back to stock rom and back to a cooked one it working ok, well it lasted a night and a day which is better than before.

Please help bricked my rooted optimus s with factory reset...

Hi. I have a huge problem and I am so stressed because some of the people in these forums are awfully mean and I am already having a bad enough time, Plus I have been searching for 3 days and found no working solution. I love my phone and I fear I may just have to give up all hope, but I am just not quite ready to let go....
Seriously tho, I rooted my Optimus S and I had a hell of a time getting a recovery to work finally thunderc did the trick. then I added thundeRom, and I had it about to weeks when I came across this cool ROM called cyanogen nightly so I just had to have it. Well then my phone wouldn't flash into recovery. I tried installing many recoveries none would work.
After so many failed attempts I kept getting permission denied. I remembered that before I rooted I had the same problem and after I did a factory reset and wiped my phone clean it worked, So I did that again and I pretty sure it bricked, only I have not found any other post where the symptoms were just like mine. My phone will only blink LG nothing else.
I did back up with titanium before this and I had a nandroid backup also. Is there any hope? Does anyone know what may have happened with my recovery before this happened? It was working fine. I have not been this long without a phone in at least 10 years. Please help I would greatly appreciate it. thanks.
yes there is, if you could go into clockwork recovery (reflash it without fully turning on the phone, there probably is a way, google it )
then you could reinstall your previous backup and it would work as new.

Hmm you might have to factory reset. Did you make a nandroid
yes ive tried resetting several times
didnt work
and, regretfully, no i did not make a nandroid :/
OK, I don't think there is much you can do but flash a ROM, either custom or stock. The problem is TB isn't restoring on ChaCha and I haven't found anyone with a configuration that makes it work.

[Completed] Corrupted backup? Big problems

Hi guys, wasn't sure where to post this and I've been searching the web for hours without coming up with an answer with the best way to fix the problem I've got.
So yesterday my sister gave me her phone saying it was shat and slow and generally rubbish (S4 i9505 running 4.4.2). So I had a brief look at it and she had absolutely no room on the phone at all, it was completely clogged. So I deleted all the cache data (4 gigs!!), as soon as I did this the phone came back to life and started updating everything it could, then made a backup in CWM. Thought while I'm here I may as well put the official Lollipop firmware on it from Sammobile. All was good until I realised that she has never backed anything up to google or any other cloud storage (pretty dumb!) and all of her important stuff I couldn't get back.
So I then had to try and extract some data from the CWM backup... couldn't do it. I just couldn't find the files that she wanted restored. Mainly whatsapp messages and pictures and also Smemo. These are all she needs, there's really important memos apparently, why the hell she never backed them up or had another copy of them is beyond me if they were that important!
So I tried restoring just the data part of the 4.4 CWM restore to the 5.0 rom, looking back now I see this is where I went wrong and was asking for trouble.
So I then tried rolling back to the full CWM backup, all went well so I assumed and it said it was successful. This was until the phone booted. Constant spamming of gapps has stopped working, and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to stop, the phone was unusable with it constantly pinging up, every app was failing, and then it would turn itself off and reboot.
So I Factory reset again and wiped everything, installed the backup again, same thing happened again. Even tried flashing the latest version of gapps, but nothing had any effect.
So now I'm thinking oh feck... I didn't make a backup of the Lollipop install as I thought the rollback would have just cured it, and she had already started messing about with it, making it look pretty and getting people to send her some of the important files she had.
So I thought balls, tough luck and you'll have to start again, your fault for never backing anything up. So I reflashed Lollipop, and for some reason it wouldn't boot. Would just hang at the Samsung logo, this was 4am, I was panicking as I'd effectively bricked her phone. So after lots of boot loops and countless flashes I was looking on ebay for a new phone for her, then suddenly it finally boots on one of the flashes.
Anyway after a lot of faffing about, flashing 4.4 which worked, so flashed 5.0 again, and luckily it booted, I don't know what happened, maybe I missed something as I was so tired, so I signed her into google and let all the apps download while I slept.
Now the question is, I seem to have found a site that explains how to extract individual files vaguely, I just need to get the smemos and whatsapp files and I'm not entirely sure where to look and extract these files. Also, will they corrupt if I try to install them on the 5.0 firmware?
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm really in the stinky brown stuff.
Morning bump if anyone can shed some light on this :crying:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Have you tried using this tool?
[Tool] Cwm nandbackup file Extractor ( .img/ .tar files )
It should extract exactly what you need. If you're only reinstalling those specific apps with their data you should have no issues, just don't restore any system data, that's what caused your problems after restoring the KitKat backup on top of the Lollipop ROM.
No response in two days, thread closed, thanks.
