Problems restoring a deleted file - General Topics

I recorded a short video on my HTC Diamond and managed to delete it... I've tried using some freeware restore programs, but the file which it restores won't play. Does anyone know a decent program to get this file back?
Thanks.

Need one manila file

Hello,
I have been messing around with Manila editor and I seem to have done something wrong with one of the files.
Can anyone send me the "7d3f1247_manila" file pls?
It's the picture of Web Browser in the Internet tab. It doesn't show anymore although I'm not sure why. The only thing I did was desaturate the picture - works with all the other icons/pictures.
Anyway, if anyone could post the file it would be great.
Or perhaps send it to [email protected].
Thanks in advance.
Anybody? It's just one file...
Best way to get it back is to switch off the today plugin in settings, then use total commander or resco to delete the file that you replaced in Windows and then reset your device. The deleted file will be restored from the ROM once the device starts back
Hmmm, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info, I'm going to try it right now...

Backup Program

Currently using SPB backup, no problems until now but lately becoming very slow, now it says backup file too large for recovery so was looking around for alternaives.
Ive searched the forums, and can find alternatives like Sprite etc but i was after some opinions from those who have actually used other apps besides SPB backup, any comments welcome, thanks.
Try this one
I use this one and it's verry good, try it - PimBackup
I have used sprite with my last few phones and PDA without any problems
Currently using the version that came on the memory card
Here is the link for PimBackup2.8
rapidshare.com/files/191036103/PPCPimBackup2.8__run_from_phone_.exe
Just coppy and run.

I just tried sprite and it killed my phone. It said backup file index error, the phone then soft resetted and would come back on. HTC sense was stuffed up and then the home screen would appear with no clock, weather etc, just the slider icons. Another weird thing it said i had 99 unread emalis and sms's. when i opened them it said i had 99 messages from a William Bartle, no such name in my contacts lol. Had to hard reset and luckily a recent backup i did worked.
After all that i realised i used Sprite for windows 6.0, it obviuosly makes a big difference not using the 6.5 one lol.
Thanks
thanks everyone else for their replies, will have to thy the pimbackup option out.

Hi again,
Can you confirm if its a complete backup program. I just tried it and had all options ticked but the size of the backup is 1697k yet when i used SPB it was much slower and approx 95mb.
ie/ after a hard reset id like to click on the backup file to restore it exactly how it was, themes, apps, sms's everything etc. Not just my appointments, contacts etc.
Can this program do this?
Resco Back up
I used this with my TYTNII. It was a little hit and miss and at times slooooowww!
Loaded onto my HD2...YEAH!! Goes like the clappers and never misses a beat. It has saved me twice after a hard reset following over-ambitious tweaking
There is a trial available from Handango and all the usual sites.
Good Luck!

Cheers mate, i have just downloaded and giving it a go now.
** yeah it works well, didnt give me the same errors that SPB just started giving me. Overall compression smaller as well, backup file was about 77mb vs 98mb using SPB yet same apps, settings etc. I havent tried a restore yet but im sure it will work, thanks for the tip.

After using i noticed the backup isnt a single file but many files. When you did a restore, i was wandering you did you load the file. ie/ SPB is a single file so after a hard reset and no apps are installed you just use file exp and select it. With Resco i cant see which file to load, it seems that you have to use Resco to restore but after a hard reset Resco isnt installed. Did you have to install this after your hard reset to be able to restore your backups?
Anyone know the answer to this one? Seeing a hard reset removes everything, how can you restore a backup using Resco if its not a single file to run like SPB backup.
Thankfully havent had to do this yet but just wanted to know from others using it.
Using RESCO B'up

When you set it up it writes the program in a smaller form to the micro SD. You must navigate to the folder in explorer on hard reset and launch. I would do a restore using the "SELECT" items tab - selecting all items. Doing a "FORCED" with "FULL RESTORE" was no good.
As I have it set-up for doing a daily "update" there is only one file. You can do a full daily b'up but you'll need plenty of chip room as the files are reasonably big. It does however act more like a system restore point in this case allowing restore to previous time points rather than just the most recent back-up.
Hope this helps

Hi Davej,
Appreciate the reply. I have had to do a full restore but thanks for the tip re: using Select, will use next time. Sorry for the dumb question but when you navigate to the folder, how do you launch or execute tihs. There are hundreds of files in the folder so i dont know how to launch it. With SPB it was easy being just 1 file, can you advise?

Yes. Rexboy. Don't plummet to far into the folders. Using Explorer navigate to the folder on the SD card called "RescoBackup". It will contain a folder with all the compacted backup files AND a standalone "RescoBackup" app. Launch the app and off you go!! Too Easy!
Ciao Bro'

Need to restore selective databases from default.vol backup on WM6.1 HTC Touch HD

Hi
I need to restore the databases associated with one particular program, from the scheduled SPB Backup file from a few days ago. I don't want to restore the whole backup.
I havew identified with memmaid (I think) that the data for MySportTraining is in a number of databses starting with MST in default.vol. But I don't know how to get at just that data and restore it to my Documents and Settings directory.
With memmaid I think I could import it if default.vol was an XML file, but no idea how to convert.
Can anyone help me with an explanation of how to restore just the MST content from default.vol (assuming I'm even on the right track with theh above)?
I'm using HTC Touch HD (T8282) with WM6.1.
Many thanks in advance

[Q] Where do the files i download from IE go to?

Today I downloaded a zip file which contained some songs. I downloaded them from mediafire using my HTC hd7 which worked perfectly and I could play these songs. The problem arose when I wanted to play them again but was unable to because I could not find them. I tried using file explorer and looked in the temp folder but was unable to find them. Does anyone know where I would be able to found it?

Really? We can do that?
Surprisingly yes however if u close it you won't be able to find it again
Bump anyone know?
i have a same problem but i have 2 problem like this. first one is where is going file when download from explorer and the second one is from email attached files ??
It depends on the type of file
Documents you can do a save as and make them available in the office hub
Pictures are available in the picture hub
I don't believe you can save music and videos, those are likely being stored in temporary internet cache that you don't have access to. If the zip file was in your email, you'd be able to open it again from the email attachment (potentially without having to download it again).
That's quite retarded, why would no Microsoft staff notice these simple issues. Like the copy and paste feature....shouldn't that come with the phone without the need of an update:/
Like Apple with iTunes, they want you to handle your media with the Zune software.
I can't understand why Microsoft follow Apple?
Until WM6.5 we where kings and now with WM7 we are starting to walk again like a 2year old baby.
Because everyone liked iPhone and nobody liked WM6.5
And so Microsoft think why not to lock my new 7version so people just follow me too!!!mmmmmmmmmm
In file manager, navigate to \Application Data\Volatile\EmailAttachments\Attachments(Numbers)\

Goto \Windows\profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
You'd find your file(s) in one of the folders with funny/coded names along with other Internet Explorer cache files.
Note that the \Windows\profiles\guest folder also contains other IE temp data (such as History and Cookies) should you also need them for whatever reason.

Any way to access android file logs?

To make a short story even shorter, some browser deleted all of my files off my phone when I uninstalled it. The phone in question is a M153 "Fortune". I can't really find a reliable way to root it, so I was wondering if its possible to access the file logs. The files I really want back are my music and video files, so I'm hopping I can find the names of the files I lost so I can re-download them. Thanks in advance!
