This may be old news to some, but didn't see anyone talking about it...
AT&T Fuze
I heard the word "Fusion" mentioned before in this forum, but more important is the tip it may be released sooner rather than later. I purchased the UK version already and I don't even know if it will work with 3G. I guess it pays to be patient
So does anyone know what att has crippled besides the front camera this time? FM radio still there?
its not old news it just came out like today. supposedly out by september but i cant find confirmation of that
and the guy who bought an att one said he cant find FM radio but that could be just software blocked and no front camera
everything else should be there
I'm so waiting for the Fuze. With contact, the price is soo much better. I'm going to say that everyone is crazy in my eyes that spends $1000 on a phone. Do you guys seriously earn $200k+ a year? Or just have worthless cash lying around?
well kraize, it's kind of like women who spend so much at shopping. except we only do it once a year. do you think we're crazy now?

Yes. Because women are crazy. We're sane.

Well this is fairly simple at least in my case. What i would do is buy the HTC Touch Pro and buy the fuze and then unlock it and sell it for the price of the touch pro or close to it and then you got the HTC version basically for the price of the fuze. :-D
Most people who are going to want this probably already used up the whole contract discount to get the At&t tilt so they aren't up for a upgrade for another year so either way they are paying an arm and a leg for a new phone. I think 1000 dollars for a camera, video player, internet device, mp3 player is a steal!!! That doesn't even include all the other random crap you can do with ur phone... Like compile C/C++ code :-D
A steal??? Seriously? I can pay $550/$650. $1k is just too much. I could do soo much more with those $300. Build a computer, buy something useful, etc... You could buy it and sell it for the price of a regular touch pro but that wouldn't work. No front camera, ptt button, a bit different/crippled somehow. I would probably sell my tilt for $350 and shell out $200. 200 doesn't seem like much to me vs the $1k/500% more that people are paying to get a Touch Pro.

I don't know who is paying 1k for the touch pro. I can buy one right now for 840. I can definitely see myself selling the fuze for around 7 or 8 hundred without a problem and i would still have my kaiser to sell if chose to, which i won't. And you can build a computer for 1k but then ur paying 1k for somethign that will suck and will not be as portable either. I guess my point is ur buying like 8 devices in one. Seems like a great deal to me. I use my kaiser to its full capability so i can see the use of these great phones. And playing with all these new devices landed me a job with Apple :-D
Yea i know i'm gonna work for apple but i will never own an iphone lol.

FM radio is not there, nor is the G-sensor calibration tool (can be downloaded). There is a push to talk button on the left side.

$550/$650 still better than $840.
That is true it is better but then you are stuck with these limitations. But lets be perfectly honest no one only buys things they need. And its far from a useless buy if you use it regularly as more than a phone. Of course if you buy the HTC version and never use FM Radio and never use the front facing camera that you should just wait and hope that the fuze is sold for less than 800. I think its a cool device and would pay 1k without a problem and if i then think its a waste can always sell it.

True true. AT&T has yet to implant video calling and I use FM radio so that should be cool if I can activate it in the Fuze. I could use the front camera as a mirror The fuze IS going to be sold for less than $800. I know this for a fact. AT&T phones /w contract are NEVER over $600. I think the max I saw a phone for was when the Tilt first came out for $500? Or was it $550? Well I guess from your point of view $1k is worth it, but from a 15 year old kid's point of view $1k is a lot of money. I only buy things I need I use my tilt for a lot of things. I didn't just buy it thinking, "Omgawd it's so kool I want it." But I guess I'm just one of the select few that were raised right I kid. I bet some people make/saved/got enough to pay for the Touch Pro.
Well i would have to say you are using need very loosely. I don't think u needed a tilt to sustain life. Its something u wanted. You could've bought a razor so i think ur using need very loosely. I dunno about the fuze being less than 600 without contract which is how i would assume most people who bought the tilt will be buying it.
Everyone has different needs. I need to do work. I need to use it's calendar. I need my music to live my life I use most of the tilt's features. I use office mobile to do my homework most of the time where a laptop is not accessible. I use music when I'm not so calm and might <sarcasm> kill somoene </sarcasm> I use wi-fi to talk to my friends ocassionally and help others with stuff as I do tech support as a job. I use the calendar to keep me in check since I'm so busy to remember everything. I use the touchscreen to write notes and keep them safe. I think you're wrong. Everyone that is here right now that has 200+ posts...needs a phone to sustain life. I'll bet you there is not one person here that can live without a phone with pda features. I was actually thinking that I'd sell my Tilt now and use a razr that is lying around in my house, but I know I can't live without the touchscreen and all the features that keep me in check so I won't. At least not until I have my hands on another pda phone.

Rofl not really hardworking. More like lazy and forgetful. I did a major essay twice in school that same day it was due. Put a bt keyboard out, started to type, emailed it to myself, opened in library, edited, printed, turned in 2 hours later. And believe it or not, I got a well 95% ish on those two essays.
I guess that is the idea. U have to know the difference between what you feel and what is real. You don't need a phone to live. U want one to live the way u want. There was plenty of life before the microchip was even made lol.. don't get me wrong i don't ever wanna go without my hi tech computer in my hands whenever i want it but that is not a necessity for life.
Hw on ur phone hmmmm must not be doing much math hw on there. hehe...
i use to do some C programming on my phone when i was in college and yea it was for the same reason lazy and forgetful lol

In my opinion with HTC releasing the Touch HD just around the corner, the TP will be outdated and the prices will take a hit. As for the 3g iPhone, it is still the phone to beat especially with all the apps that are being released for it lately plus I dont see a price drop coming within the near future on the blackmarket for these devices since the only other way to get one is thru ATT and a ridiculous plan and 2 year contract.
My $0.02
Cheers!
and the fact that the iphone is overhyped.
meaning, even the stores had plenty of them in storage but they where only to be sold a few on a day (creating a hype).
if you write a problems over the iphone, most of the time you get sabered down by iphone lovers.
iphone is not sold for tweakers.
ppc is tweakable, and you can write down youre problem if you find any.
not that i am trying to put the iphone in corner.
i don`t own one.
and i like the looks, and how fast it works (tried it in the store).
i guess you have to find out yourself.
maybe try to swap with youre friend for a week for testing.
ooh and did i mentioned that i like it that wm isent the only phone OS on the market.
i welcome the idea of google`s android operating system.
thank you guys for your input. anyone else?
The the iPhone 3G is approx $6-700, the TP is about $900.
But over a 2 year contract, the iPhone will probably retain its value better than the TP (namely because Apple releases only one phone a year, while HTC is continually making better and better products).
Of course it also depends on if both are unlocked; if you're forced to use AT&T (or if you really need US 3G) then there's no clear winner since you'll end up paying a lot more for the plan itself.
Otherwise I would say the biggest consideration is what kind of smartphone user you think you are. If you have no problems with using iTunes and Apple's walled garden called the App Store, then the iPhone is a fair choice. But if you're a DIYer and have no problems copying files and making some registry edits, you'll find WinMo much more empowering.
Of course you should definitely also consider your warranty, insurance and replacement options. What will you have to do to get the 3G replaced versus the TP? Etc.
If you want a no-nonsense opinion, I'd say stick with the TP. We're only getting started here at XDA, and the TP has nowhere to go but up in terms of its software. The bulk of what the iPhone has to offer is already on the table, and will probably slow down once developers jump ship to Android. But that's only my opinion
i own both, what do u basically use your phone for? for a normal phone, iphone is great, top of everything, and for multimedia, it's still the phone to beat. and like said, it's fast, and very fast, Apple doesn't need to tell how it works, but watching movie is very pleasant compared to TP, despite the latter has more resolution to the screen.
anyway, if you really need a WM device, stay with TP, and like said before, it's tweakable, whereas the most you can do with iphone is jailbreaking to let other cracked 3rd party applications and games to be applicable on your iphone. not a straight through way to install anything you want.
I hate IPhone, apart from a massive screen & some eye-catching animation it has nothing else to offer and cummon, if u talk about speed, I have tried both IPhone & TP over 16mg Wifi and they both load a page almost within in same time.
How can you even call IPhone a smart phone??? It doesn't even have the basic functionality that a mediocre s60 has...
Major Question Update:
So rather then start yet another "what phone should I get thread", I decided to just update this one with my new question.
It's down to just three options. The Fuze. The Touch HD. Or wait till the next round of phones.
I prefer the touch hd compared to the fuze. But I have a really hard time justifying a $700+ phone that I can't use to it's full potential (no 3G )
So; how long do I have to wait for the new round of phones? It's already almost February...am I looking at Q2...Q3...2010? I really can't wait much longer; carrying two phones is really starting to get on my nerves.
Old stuff below:
Horray for tax season! This is the last year I will likely see a tax refund (new job, new tax bracket...)so I plan on spending it wisely. And by wisely; I mean buying the coolest mfking phone available! Only problem is; I have no idea what that phone might be.
Here's my requirements...
Needs to work on AT&T in the US. It's not that I love the carrier; it's just that my new company provides me with a number there which has unlimited data/minutes/text. Kinda hard to justify paying for more service...
Would prefer to avoid a slide out keyboard. I don't mind on-screen keyboards if they are large enough to actually use.
If I'm going to use a stylus; there must be a "dock" for it. The Fuze is out because of this. ((Why in the world would they think I would want my stylus hanging off the side of my darn phone???))
MicroSD card must be accessible without totally restarting my phone. I don't mind TOO much if the port for it is under the battery cover; but for the love of god don't put it under the darn battery! ((I'm looking at you BB Curve which I hate...))
Standard headphone jack would be swell. I have yet to find a stereo bluetooth headset that I like; so for now I'm stuck using the wired kind. And MicroUSB->3.5mm are ugly; and like to slip out alot.
GPS, but that should really be just about standard now; right?
Far prefer WinMo to anything else I've used; but I'm not opposed to using android if I can make it work.

Hi guys.
Currently i walk around with a G1 in my hands. It's rooted with the latest jf version. I've had this phone since it came out and i like. Now here is where things are getting tricky. Two months ago, i received a promotion at work. I am now the administrative assistant at my company. I know people say that is just a glorified secretary but definitely not the case here. I run projects for my boss analyzing the amount of business we bring in and which one of our competitors is taking away our business. i tend to us Microsoft outlook daily alon with word, excel and powerpoint. (me and access can't get along). My sweet, sweet g1 is not up to snuff. It's a cool phone, but for what i'm doing, it lacks the software and syncability i need. (prove me wrong on this one if you can).
So, to all at xda, i'd like you to point me in the right direction for a true business phone. The is no limitation on provider, at most 300 dollars (before rebate and with a new customer 2 year plan with a provider other then T-mobile). I have to be able to edit and view Microsoft documents. A good amount of internal memory or an expandable slot. A physical keyboard. I need a proverbial work horse who when i say jump, ask me how high. Now any suggestions don't necessarily have to be out now. if there is a great phone coming out within 2 months (like the touch pro 2), i can wait. But i can't wait past august 15th. guys, i really need your help with this one. I just don't have time to go around and test so many phone. I like to run a potential phone through it's paces for 4 days before i decide on keeping it(love t-mobile for letting me do that. one week i tested the slide, blackberry curve, pearl, wing and dash) So guys please, help me out. Thanks
sidenote- why do phone company's want to make a cell phone so much like a laptop, Why not make a small laptop that can make phone calls. most professionals today carry briefcases and bags and push come to shove, they can use bluetooth.

Very sad you live in the US In Europe , the boss would be the one that pays for it ...
Dirk
would go for the touch pro, very comfortable phone with its 5 row keyboard imo and not very expensive, or wait for the touch pro 2. The main problem with the tp2 is that its very big. big and expensive. Besides the winmo phones, the only other option would be a blackberry, like the curve. Since you already tested it, you got to decide yourself which platform is the one of your choice ;-) blackberries are usually easier to get along with but by far not as powerful as the winmo devices But blackberries run muuuch longer on battery power, if thats necessary to you.
Sidenote: To get a nice office suite for blackberries, theres no way around but to pay for one. Only readers are included. Thats an advantage with winmo ;-)
I had a Blackberry Curve and Flip, and have now switched to a Touch Pro and Touch HD. Battery life is good enough, but not nearly as comfortable as with the bbs. But I really love the devices in terms of expandability, thats why I would never trade them back in - but thats not a reasonable factor if you havent got time to mod and tune your device
Hello guys, I have a touch pro and I need to sell it. I just got my license(well permit, I just turned 15 1/2) and my Mom says a Touch screen phone is too dangerous while driving and that if I want a PS3 Slim, I gotta sell the phone.
Asking $299.99(Price of PS3 lol). P.M with offers. If this isn't allowed in this forum then sorry, please remove.
I think you might wanna lower that price. They're going for about that much on Ebay for a new one.
Marketplace forum is up in the general section. Hopefully a mod can move this for you
hows a touch phone too dangerous? tbh any phone is a dangerous thing while driving, and you rather have a PS3 slim over a phone that u can take anywhere? you gotta think about it, if u sell this phone ure gonna miss all the fun, i have a PS3 and a TP and tbh i rather have the TP anyday cuz u can do anything and plus its a portable thing thats my opinion and my preference, if i were you, if you have an allowance like me, save up or go to ur next door neighbor and ask if they need anything done, ull get quick money that way and you can own both but uhh other than that i do have to agree with sell price, 100-200 wouldve been a good price especially since TP2 is out and TP is gonna be phased out pretty soon...but anyways before u sell it man, just think bout it.
lates!
Drinking a can of Coke can be more dangerous then a phone while driving....Having to look at physical keys will be more distracting then looking at a well lit screen with a big icon on it
is it that hard to give us a stable OS? a fast cpu and ram and more ram? good touch screen (i like the way the iphone screen worked). an accelerometer w/ g-sensor (that is unlocked to apps (again iphone got this right, whats wrong lg?? come on!!) wifi, gps, a normal usb (mini or micro), & at least 1gig internal mem and a micro st slot, and let me multitask all of my apps at the same time, i dont want to quit a game so i can look up something on the internet or take a call, that why we have task managers, to manage tasks.
and make it affordable!!
and don't limit the apps like apple (thank god for cydia)
and come on at&t quit filling up the memory with things i will never use, let me do that.
oh yeah, and dont forget to allow me to view flash web pages, and not just youtube. i use wixi.com, but the mobile version sucks. and Orb Live. i want to access all of my media form home for free (w/data plan)
sorry about the rant, but maybe with a lot of luck someone with some pull will stumble across this and will create a great phone.
by the way windows sucks, sorry to say it but anyone who expected windows to make a good mobile OS must have been high, when is the last time windows got it right?? never they have been playing catch up to apple forever. They should call there next os "Windows Crash" and "WMCrash" because thats all my computer and phone do is "crash"
would it be against copyright laws to take an iphone 3gs setup, add a full QWERTY keyboard (slide out or flip) change the OS to Android, slightly change the look and button layout and market it as a new phone?
Make us a great phone and put it on At&t!!

Why not put your questions to htc direct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683957
Who is we ? " We " all need different things from our phone. And " we " all don't want to pay $1000 for a phone with super everything.
" ...and make it affordable ?......" That is like saying ..." hey car companies, why can't you make a car that goes 200 mph, runs on electricity, gets a thousand hours per charge, made from all titanium , works totally on voice commands , oh yeah and it has to be affordable, about 15K. "
Why doesn't HTC make a phone like that ? It would be obnoxiously expensive to put all that technology into one phone, unless they put a super new battery in it, the current batteries will never run all those features. And no one wants to pay for what it would cost to sell a phone like that.
Like cars, you pick out the features you want, find a phone that has most of those features at a price you can afford, and then spend the next year whining about all the things your phone can't do.
ATT will never get anything good in fear it would compete with the iPhone. To make a phone with all those features, would cost a fortune and some stuff isn't for everyone. That's why we have "affordable" smartphones like the Smart, Wildfire, Tattoo, etc and more extravagant phones like the HD2, Nexus, Desire, etc.
because if this does happen, companies can't make more cell phones sell because the one cellphone has everything YOU need.... and everyone's needs are different, like how I don't like the HTC HD2's large screen...
denco7: I would never pay $1000 for a phone. I wont even pay $150 for a phone with a 2 year contract. even if it had every thing. yes i understand that a lot of work goes in to making these phone but its not like the people making the phone get the big bucks. they get there regular pay check. and with technology today parts are cheap. like to replace the screen on my old iphone it cost me $20 on ebay, so that means it probable cost less than $5 to make if not less. it probable cost less than $25 in parts to make an iphone, plus the $8 per hour it cost to employ someone to watch the computer do all of the work.
and i expect a smart phone to do everything i want it to do hardware wise, now i understand that i might have to buy apps to use all the fetchers, but i dont want to be limited especially if the phone has the hardware but its locked so that you cant use it for other functions. like the lg expo. why put a g-sensor in a phone and not allow it to be used to the fullest extent? all its good for is rotating the screen, now thats dumb.
why should i have to pick a lesser phone and choose what options are more impotent than others when picking a phone?? just give them all to me and if i dont want to use them then i dont use them.
I used every feather on my iphone 3g. I use the sh!t out of my phones, and i expect them to run fast. the biggest thing i didnt like about the stock os on the iphone was it didnt multi-task but i found a fix to that (backgrounder & multifl0w)
most of the problems with phones is that they limit the hardware with the OS. and thats just dumb.
I find it funny how everyone says this would be too "expensive." Everything OP named is what "smartphones" SHOULD be at right now.
1gb ram is MAYBE 20 dollars... for buyers! (I agree, cell phone RAM would probably be more expensive.)
1gb internal storage? Again, they have cheap mp3 players the size of a nickel with this for 5 dollars. That would be NOTHING.
iPhone (well, i use iPod touch) does have an actually nice touchscreen - again which is actually already on the market. However, I'll limit Apple to my iPod touch. iPhone isn't touching ANY Android phone. =]
A hardware keyboard should be a "duh." I have a myTouch, and love it. However, I feel buyers remorse often because I just didn't get a keyboard. However, it doesn't add 400 dollars just for a hard keyboard.
Flash is on its way - which has nothing to do with the hardware.
I have to say, OP is right. Smartphones are really lacking what they're actually capable of. And, with a service plan, price might be like 300 dollars (if the manufacturer wasn't money hungry). I'd pay 300 dollars for a phone like that with a service plan. I'd pay 800 to a grand for one with no service plan. Why? Have any of you looked at the price of that p.o.s. iPad? I could go buy a laptop 2x better than the iPad WITH TOUCHSCREEN for the amount of a 64 gb (which is NOTHING) iPad. Probably 5 times better for one without touchscreen.
Of course, this is just my opinion. Also, I have to admit, they are advancing faster and faster. Even with the possibility that they could exist now... I see them actually existing VERY soon.
Edit: As PurpleLlamaLover said, though, I dount AT&T will ever get a phone better than the iPhone because A. It's not like it would even be noticed and B. What he said, they don't want to compete with it. Especially if its cheaper. Which it probably would be.
