HTC Touch Pro Aka Raephel Vs HTC Touch Diamond - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi,
I am in Delhi (india), and need to buy a new PDA. I am not able to make up my mind on Touch Diamond or Touch pro. HTC touch pro is not yet launched here, and will be launched soon... if somebody knows the date of launch, please let me know.
Can somebody advice me, if it is worth waiting for Touch pro, or go ahead and buy Diamond.
Thanks.

The Touch Pro has the following extra things:
- Slide out keyboard
- 288Mb RAM rather than 192Mb
- 512Mb ROM rather than 256Mb (Diamond also has build in memory for file storage - eg, music etc)
- Flash to go with camera
- more powerful battery
- microSD slot instead of 4Gb built in memory
- fair bit thicker (almost 1cm I think)
- TV out (though an extra cable which needs to be purchased)
You can see a side by side comparison here:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=1306&id2=1311

Wrong, the Raphael does not have more ROM. The Diamond has 4gb ROM while the Raphed has only 512mb. I'm pretty sure it's more thicker than an cm, especially when you consider the keyboard

Right, 18mm to 11.5mm I believe.
It's really not that thick though, believe me...

To clarify...
The Diamond has 256Mb + the 4Gb storage, whereas the Diamond has 512Mb + microSD card slot.

True, however ROM is what's built in so i took it that's what you mean No biggy, good clarification for all.

Very Importantly , It depends on convenience. If you do a lot of typing and used to hardware keyboards then Raphael is a go
If you are used to onscreen keyboard , Touch Diamond has a good onscreen keyboard which gets very comfortable to use.Further , raphael has extra ram ( 288 , but again 64 mb may be off for Graphics processor as diamond )and provides storage card slot.

Well, I think the bigger part is that firmware can't be put on the 4GB fixed memory or the microSD card, so the Raphael has more room for that.

Thanks everyone for replying back. Any idea when is "Raphael" launching in India or in Delhi for that matter. And what is the expected price for it ?

All very true, I will edit my post to try to clarify.

By the way, if diamond has 4 GB fixed memory on the board, and Raphael has only 512 mb of that + microSD card, so wont the Diamond should access the memory faster ?, and it should be more reliable too ?

The speed depends on your MicroSD card, some are pretty fast.

Airtel Might launch Raphael in a few months.

Yeah, I googled for about 15 mins for some but could only find them on pre-order (the 12Gb ones) with no release date or price.

Ok lets try again...
Diamond RAM: 192MB. Raphael RAM: 288MB.
Diamond ROM: 256MB. Raphael ROM: 512MB.
Diamond Extra memory: 4GB(Internal). Raphael Extra memory: MicroSD.
RAM is for loading programs and using the phone.
ROM is for storing windows and programs.
Extra memory is for programs, music, video and images.
Hope it helps.

4GB intern sucks, I have a 8gb micro sd hc which I also can use for other stuf. Also reading and writing goes faster with memorycard reader than using the phone with usb cable.

Recieved my sandisk 8gb mobile ultra class 6! microsdhc card today.
Replaced my 4gb class 2.
My kaiser is flying with this new card...
Looking up adresses in tomtom could be a pain, but now it's done in the blink of an eye.
The speed makes up for the extra money (and that is not much to start with: 41 euro incl shipment) !!!!

Just to clarify further it makes no difference whether the memory is built in or not... ROM is Read Only Memory and is generally where the operating system is stored and where the device boots from. The additional on-board 4gb in the Diamond is RAM which is available for storing user files...

thanks for the link/info rudegar. just curious about the micro-sd feature. at the moment i believe the biggest size is only 2 gb...while sd cards can go up to 4 gb...with that would users actually prefer micro-sd for ppc's / smartphones? buddy of mine uses a nokia and one of his gripes is the lack of memory space on a 2 gb card for his tunez.
cheers

well back in the day the same argument was used pro CF card vs. SD cards size get bigger and bigger
and my argument is that the fewer types of flash one have to use the easier to move data around between devices
most "real" cellphones already jumped to microSD and miniSD's had a too short life

4GB microSD with miniSD adapter ?

Hello,
I have updated my Tornado with WM6 - works great ; )))
Now I tried to use my 4GB microSD card with a miniSD card adapter in my tornado, but it doesn't find the card.
It's a 4GB microSD HC from SanDisk.
Is there a solution for this problem ? (another driver or something else)
Thanks, Newchurch
Tornado specs only support 1GB, but 2GB do work.
We are currently trying to port SDHC driver, but we have many problems, we don't even know if the card reader on the phone supports SDHC.
So you just go to wait
isnt there mini sd cards with 4 gb but without the damn HC?
like here (german ebay)
http://cgi.ebay.de/4GB-miniSD-Speic...tcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
why porting the other type? any advantages?
I bought a miniSD 4gb TOPRAM from eBay and it works great on my T-Mobile SDA with WM5 and WM6
Here is the same thing i bought: eBay miniSD 4gb TOPRAM
I thought all cards exceeding 2GB are SDHC ? HC = high capacity

Not necessarily - some 4G SD cards are still no-HC. Dunno about the mini/microSD cards, though - to my knowledge, there're no no-HC 4G microSD cards.
Disk2Go seems the offer microSD non-HC in 4GB fashion, at least their website says so (and the online dealers I've found offering it):
http://www.disk2go.com/xx_EN/memorycard.php?id=microsd
From what I could gather, getting a 4GB miniSD non-HC 4GB to work in a Tornado is a matter of brand and luck.
Couldn't find any reports yet about how the chances of getting a 4GB microSD non-HC to work in a Tornado using a miniSD adapter are, but I guess since it's just simple wire extension in a bigger housing (no electronics needed), I'd say it *should* work.
However, I've yet to find a 4GB microSD + miniSD adapter combo for sale. Let me know if you do!
But I doubt the speed of non HC card above 2GB

32 gb micro sd

does any know whats the highest gb the device can handle.
I have a 16GB in mine, but i dont see why there would be a limit...
I have a 16gb sandisk class 2 microsd with minisd adapter attached to my u1000 - it's working with wm6.1 pro ! , but if the 32gb microsd comes out soon , it's better to try it out to see if the u1000 can detect 32gb before u buy , otherwise u can't use it with u1000 . This u have to do it the practical way and not rely on heresay because it is so expensive to get one 32gb now and with a few brands and speed too , unless u wait for end of next year , maybe it will cost much less to buy n try instead of try n buy . Take care n cheers
I did read elsewhere that 32gb was the max that windows mobile was able to use, however it was a unofficial comment so I cant say its true or not. I do have a 32gb working fine in my universal though.
Jay
16gb is the max for advantage. no more. according to official specifications at the time of release.
can you use any micro sd card
i was thinking of getting a 16gb micro sd since everybody says it works with x7510.i justed wanted to know does it need to be any particular brand .what does sdhc mean does it work on the x7510

Working fine
SanDisk 32GB Class 4 from Amazon @ $22 USD.
So far so good.
I installed a new SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB UHS-1 Class 10 (SDSDQUA-032G-A11A) in mine, and it worked. Even though it benchmarks much better than my old SanDisk 32GB Class 4 (SDSDQM-032G-B35N,) the difference in performance is negligible. I tested two DVPs side by side, and the most significant difference I saw was about a 30% reduction in time for a 100MB game install.
I've heard that the Samsung 32GB Class 10 (MB-MSBGA/US) also works, and benchmarks extremely well. Make sure, as always, that you buy from a reputable seller. I (foolishly) bought one from a seller on ebay, and it was a fake with 4k writes 30 times slower than the genuine card.
Generally you want to stay away from class 10 cards. The only two I know of that have random write speed fast enough to be acceptable are the SanDisk SDSDQUA-032G-A11A and the Samsung MB-MSBGA/US.
Both of those cards are currently $40. The SanDisk SDSDQM-032G-B35N is perfectly adequate for $20.
I'm interested in finding out if anyone has put a 64GB card in this. The DVP's lack of hard reset key press combo makes me nervous to try. I've heard they work in Samsung Focus i917.

I've had a SanDisk 32GB Class 4 from Amazon in my phone for a few months and everything seems peachy. I made sure to buy a retail packaged card from a seller listed on Sandisk's authorized reseller website to be sure that I had a legit card.
Here is an old thread about cards people have tried in the DVP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921850

Brand new. I've had problem with it, because after the OS start, it pops up that there is wrong SD card inserted and I must reinsert the original one. So I did, initiated factory reset and when the phone restarted I've removed battery, inserted that new 32GB card and it works till now without any problems
Anyone using 64GB?

Upgraded from a 16GB Sandisk Class 4 to this : http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/?capacity=32GB
There was a HUGE difference in the first boot time and overall responsiveness was much better(at first anyway,I don't know whether it's become slower now). Definitely worth it Camera performance seems to have improved too(viewfinder and recorded videos don't lag as much). Now I wish Dell had provided the option to take 720p videos at 30 fps. Benchmarks don't seem to have improved by much, though.
Is there any risk in trying a 64GB SDXC card?
No,because it supposedly was there on the T-Mobile site a couple of years ago( 64GB version of the DVP). Even if it doesn't get supported, the worst that could happen is you need to use it in your camera or something most probably if it doesn't work properly it'll recognize 32GB.

Isn't that the stock card? Unless yours was 8GB. You really should have went to the 32GB class 10 or atleast something above class 6, it makes A LOT of difference.

I have a question for you guys, my stock 8GB card is almost full and I would really like to upgrade it. Is there a way to keep my SMS's? Also, I already updated to WP7.8, will the phone revert back to 7.5 if I change the SD card? Any other risks you guys can think of? Thanks.

You'll lose your data unless you take a backup and restore. No, I'm not aware of any other risks.
upgraded to sandisk 32gb uhs-1 (class 10)
works quite well. phone is performing faster and is a bit more fluid.
multitasking capabilities are much better.
been using the phone as my primary. heavy day to day use.

also, ive noticed that regardless of changing the microsd card. the 720p video capabilities of this phone are still below expectations. there is still a lot of noticeable lag when recording hd video. does anyone have tips to fix this or improve on it in any way?

I'm looking for a fast card, I've heard the lower capacity ones like 64GB cards perform better but i simply love the idea of having 128GB's of file storage for media.
TIA!!

I've just ordered an Extreme Pro 64GB based on my research i've had pretty poor read/write speeds in the past and I want the fastest possible.
I'll report back!
I believe there's only 2 brands selling 128GB microSDXC right now. any other brand (that you find on eBay) will be a knockoff and won't actually hold 128GB of data
Sandisk Ultra (there is a v1 and v2... v2 is faster)
v2- SDSDQUAN-128G-G4A
v1 -SDSDQUA-128G-G46A
and Lexar
LSDMI128BBNL633R
so look at both of them and see
Samsung also has 128GB MicroSD cards in EVO and PRO series.
Samsung/SanDisk/Kingston all make their own chips as far as I know, Sony and some others buy from them and re-brand, if I am not mistaken.
Samsung should also be very reliable, considering most phones including iPhones and the Z3 etc have Samsung NAND in them.

SanDisk is just as good so I guess you should get that.
