Anyone have a Nexus S that's still restarting on it's own?

After the 2.3.2 update, I thought everything was fine. Guess not.
Phone restarted in the middle of a phone call. What the dilly yo

I manually updated to 2.3.2, but never did faced your problem.
I heard some did but before 2.3.2, as I think it shouldve been resolved by it.
Backup and softreset and see, recovery or so.

Happened to me yesterday. Oddly enough, this was the first time it happened, and was AFTER I installed the 2.3.2 update.

This is discussed in other threads already...
The 2.3.2 update does not address the random reboots, or the reboots during calls. Google is still working on a fix for that specific problem.
The problem seems to be really random overall...some people have it frequently, others not all, some rarely. I've only had it twice, and both times only while on 2.3.1.
If you search the forum here, you'll find a thread or two with links to the Google Help Forum topic where romainguy from Google talks about the problem.

Expect an OTA in a couple of weeks.

i had it only twice
but that was because i was overloading the poor thing, with trying to do too many things simultaneously
and when it can't cope with how fast i click around stuff, and how many apps i launch and use all at the same time, it just reboots
it's not hard to reproduce
just go like a maniac and start launching apps left and right, and pull up info, make a call, send SMS, browse the web, download stuff, etc, etc
and it'll reboot as soon as it hangs
it's like a SUPER Force Close

I'm pretty sure my two reboots weren't under such extreme circumstances...phone just sitting idle for a while, got a phone call, call reboots 5-15 minutes into the middle of the call.
Even so, your experience makes me wonder if just tweaking the memory management on the phone with something like AutoKiller app might help those who are having the issue more often than others. (Note that autokiller is NOT a task killer, it's poorly named. It's a way to tweak the minfree settings on the phone and let the Android built-in system still handle what's killed or not.)

ok... if that's the case, no, i've yet to see the phone reboot on its own
i've had some 30ish min calls and no reboot

[Q] ICS Gps not locking on?

Hi all. Was wondering if anyone out there is having GPS issues on 4.0.3?
I did the update just before I left home to go to Indonesia and now I'm here the GPS won't get a lock particularly when using google maps. Says it has sattelites in range but even with 4 or 6 won't get a lock. However did manage to get a lock a couple of nights ago using SkEye astronomy program.
Any feedback appreciated.

I experienced the sameproblem with Nexus S locking on GPS days ago. Usually when I'm in Italy, I'm always connected to internet and GPS lock very fast, helped by the network.
But days Iago I went to London, with pre-cached map of the city and in 3 days the phone NEVER locked on the GPS system unless a wireless connection. All it said was "Trying to get current position..." and after a few seconds "Impossible to get the current position. Retry later".
While trying to get the position on googlemap in the status bar I noticed the empty GPS-circle never started to blink...
Exactly the same thing happened to my brother device (also a 4.0.3 Nexus S).

What worked for me.
So Im using the Galaxy s2.
Leaked ics.
Gps bug.

It said it worked and now maps finds me as does 'places'.
Facebook now gives me places nearby but still says not found.
I zoomed in on maps and its pretty much got me to within a few feet. So it has to be gps. Towers gets you w/in a few states. (jk)

I have the same issue. With ICS my phone can't get a GPS lock.
I'm back on GB though.

Ive been meaning to come and debunk my own thread.
False alert everyone. It doesnt work. When I was on wifi it took my info from there and 'injected' it. For whatever reason maps etc took that as well enough.
On 3g it would seem to only triangulate my position and get it right to within hundreds of yards.
However I hope that the thread helps developers develop a bug fix. I saw qbking post a new ics vid today so maybe the latest leak is gps corrected. Well see.

flash a stock GB rom, Pete's for instance. Lock on to GPS in Maps. I use GPS test from Market also and Clear and update GPS with app. Reboot, then Flash ICS rom and benefit

Thanks for that. I had the same issue after updating to ICS - Glympse couldn't find where I was, Maps wouldn't use GPS, etc.

All I had to do was to use the menu to get to Settings, and use the buttons at the top of the settings to Clear AGPS and Update AGPS (I don't know whether both of these were necessary), and everything started working. I didn't need to reboot.

Poor GPS Signal

Has anyone noticed the GPS signal strength is rather poor compared to other phones.
I have my 6yr old HTC incredible and it can keep a lock better.
As a hobby, I like to record GPS tracks when on an airplane as I travel alot. That is a good test environment as the signal is typically poor. When I have both phones on side by side, I will see that the satellite signal levels are about the same from both eventhough the Z5 is capable of seeing more satellites. However, the HTC is capable of holding a lock for nearly the entire flight whereas the Z5 will often lose a lock randomly.
Sometimes, I will notice the Z5 not getting a GPS lock even in my car (although this is rare)
I asked Sony support about this. They claim GPS wont work in a plane eventhough I've recorded hundreds of tracks. Then they said they'd forward this concern to the engineers to perhaps get improved in a future firmware.

Haven't got any issues with GPS lock outdoor, but you might need be on the window side on your next flight to get a better reception. =)
The thing that i noticed mostly with Z5, is they have quite weak receiver antenna's wherein even cellular signal is very weak compared to 1 year old phone.

I always sit on the window side and it doesnt matter since I stated that I in comparison to another phone side by side by side, the Z5 is much worse. Unless you normally look at the signal levels you probably would notice just driving around outside.
Like you, I also noticed the cell antenna is worse too.

Made a quick research for the Z5 teardown, based on it only has a small antenna at the lower back of the unit.
Seems this might be the reason for very weak receptions we are experiencing with this unit.
Hope their engineers can make an improvement via software or radio drivers and release it sooner.

The small "L" looking bar on the center, together with the board is the GPS antenna (most likely)

Question about GPS

I was about to pull the trigger on the XZ Premium but Notebookcheck's review mentioned that the GPS is slow, unable to lock indoors, inaccurate and falls behind a number of devices:

Haven't experienced any GPS issues. Lock is within seconds. Distance with XZP as navigation - 2600 km (EU). Screenshot has been taken on my terrace, in car accuracy is even better.

Can't complain about GPS. Most he time I have an accuracy of ~7m which is fine to me.

Thanks for the heads up guys. As I suspected, it seems like there were some issues with Notebookchecks review unit.
Are you able to get a stable lock indoors within a reasonable time?

Well, when I use GPS Test app it is able to "see" 24 satellites, but only 2-7 are used (I live in duplex apt). But when I open Google Maps it shows exact position tho (Locations set to High Accuracy).

Had mine around a week, lots of Waze use and no issues at all, and I would say its faster than my old S6

Here is a screenshot - sofa, close to window (and there is 2 meters wide balcony above me).

I've had intermittent issue with the GPS on my XZP. 90% of the time it's fine but every now and then it won't lock and Google maps doesn't work which makes navigation terrible.

Same issues here. Generally GPS is fine, however, sometimes when the phone has been running for a while, the GPS fails miserably, it's simply not working. Rebooting the phone fixes the issue, but still, something wrong with the software.
Had this GPS issue 3 times now in 6 weeks of usage.

That's weird. I have never experienced such an issue (the longest distance was about 850 km in 9 hours and it never stopped working). Could it be because I excluded sygic, waze, gps status & toolbox and Location services from battery optimization?

That may be the reason. I have been concerned about battery optimization as well as automatic clearing of the cache. I just am not convinced that letting the OS do such things automatically is the best thing to do. I have had no issues with GPS on this phone at all... so far.

I have stamina mode always on (I do not play often) and didn't had any problems with the gps. I didn't tried indoors. Regards!

OnePlus 8T GPS owners -> How is the GPS?

I posted this over OnePlus forums but received 0 replies, so I will just repost it here. I hope you guys don't mind. I am REALLY thankful to anyone who does the test!
So I am on the edge of purchasing an 8T, but I've had a horrendous experience with the 6T and 7 Pro, so I thought I'd ask. The 8 Pro also had bad reception in Notebookcheck review, so yeah. Asking.

- Open the app in your office/house. Wait a bit until GPS locks on, take a screenshot.
- Go outside. Wait for GPS lock and take a screenshot again.
If you wish to compare it yourself, take another phone (Samsung Exynos/Huawei Kirin has usually superb GPS reception) and just do the same with those.

Hey I am sorry but I am not going to do all that. But I can tell you I am a delivery driver I drive over 8 hours a day. And the gps on maps works perfect for me on the daily. And the locater works great on the company end too. Maybe to good. They know where I am at all times

Yeah, my 6T and 7 Pro also worked for like some time, but they both failed me when I didn't have perfect reception. Basically devices like the Samsung Note 9/Note 10 Plus, I have light green signal. Same with Huawei Mate 20. On the 6T/7Pro I only had dark yellow/orange/red-ish bars. And in an open area, standing still, it does not matter. But when you are in a car, or in the streets - the signal level drops and every bit counts.
So, if anyone does the test, I'll buy you a beer via Paypal, idc. Thanks.

Gave both about 5 seconds. First in house, second in my backyard. Live in California. To be honest I've never had issues with the GPS so idk how this helps at all... Too lazy to compare to another phone, but based off of GPS usage using Strava a while ago on OP6, its about the same if not a bit better.

My 6, and 7 Pro had no issues with GPS and Maps. I've only had the 8T for two days now but I do have GPS Status installed and sitting here in my two story house I lock on to 24/44 satellites in about 2, or 3 seconds, and the Maps app seems to work just fine!

At this point, I am only waiting for folks to figure out call recording (like if root + Call Recorder by skvalex works or not). If that works, I'm hitting that order button so hard my mouse will break.
