What software security is available/recommended for the Windows Mobile devices like the Touch HD.
The built in password jobbie is naff.. I would like something that once password protected is hard wired into the system so that even if lost and found, no amount of hard resetting will bypass it without a complete ROM update..
At the moment, once set, I can still switch backon and "sometimes" it will ask for the password but if I ignore it, it will stay take me to the last app that was running before it hybernated... cheers.
Best I'm aware of is Sprite Terminator.
Thank you for that, do you know if there any facilities on that product that also work in a day to day basis.. that is something better than what is on the phone for locking down the phone when you are not using it but will fire back up upon passowrd entry.. something better than what the phone has already.. cheers..
Terminator does not. Absent info from someone else here, I think you just need to run a search for what you're looking for. For example, see http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/utilities_security.shtml
Hello.
I recently got a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 (with Windows Mobile 6.1), and I set a password on it.
Sometimes when it would ask me for my password, the shift or fn keys wouldn't work, so I couldn't enter it. I would have to soft reset the device to be able to type in my password.
Frustrated, I decided to disable password protection entirely. I then found that after leaving the device alone for a period of time (while sleeping, for example), it would lock and ask me for a password - but since I no longer had one, I couldn't. I would have to soft reset the device to bypass the password screen.
I searched around, and found that this was a bug in Windows Mobile, and the only solution was to hard reset and never enable password protection. After a while of putting up with it, I flashed my device to use itje's Touch-IT v7, and I performed a hard reset. It was fine for a while, but now it's doing it again: it's asking me for a password when I leave it alone for a period of time, but I don't have one. I never set a password this time.
Is there any real solution to this? It's incredibly frustrating. Thank you in advance.
you mean the security password that is enforced when using exchange email? there is ap app that will enable you to turn it off, but you should read this thread (the app is listed here but you should take heed of the warning from deedee). I leave it up to you.

Try "hard reseting" it
I'm not using Exchange email, and the checkbox to disable password protection isn't greyed out (like it is in that thread). Thanks for the link anyway though, I'll have a look around the registry.
Anyone else know anything about this?
Edit: As I said in my original post, I already tried a hard reset when this problem originally appeared. I hadn't touched the password protection settings at all since my hard reset, but it's happening again.
Does nobody have a solution for this?
are you sure someone isn't messing with your phone and setting a password? I've been using windows mobile for 6 years and never had that problem.
And you said something about a bug.... can you link me to whatever you found?
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
I just tried searching for that again, but unfortunately I can't find it. It was a thread with somebody saying that they have no password set, yet the device asks for one so they can only bypass the screen by soft resetting - and that's the exact problem I'm having now. There was no solution posted so I didn't bookmark it or anything.
I am the only person that has had access to my phone, so nobody has messed with it. The password setting is definitely disabled, and the HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001023 registry value is set to 1 (disabled). My phone doesn't ask me for a password when I first start it (so I can get past it each time via a soft reset), it just seems to happen after 10 hours or so - I'm not exactly sure what triggers it.
Edit: I'm not sure if this is what I read before, but it seems to describe the same thing.

Thats the question: is it really time for WM6?
So far i believe that the device cannot digest what we have so far of WM6. Too many non-functional things or bugs if you would like to say =_=
Device auto-locks and asks for password and if you dont have a password you cannot get into the device other than by soft reset. Asks password even for activesync! PDAViet has problem with activesync in vista as it disconnects after 5 minutes. WiFi only turns on from Comm center. Hang up's on 25MB free RAM. A lot of memory leak! 10MB to run SPB Time -_-...

Edit 2: Here's another one... No real solution posted.

I have recently purchased HTC Touch with WM6. 2 days ago, it suddenly locked. I couldn't unlock because it asks for password. Because I didn't set a password, I couldn't unlock.

This is really wierd, i have been using wm since 5 was on the scene and ive never come across your issue. I appreciate that your not using exchange but did you try the zeynee unlock app? It might stop the lock screen, you never know. If it doesnt work then nothing lost huh??
I didn't try it, no. I was concerned about the posts saying the application used up too much battery power, and thought checking the registry would be good enough (since nothing should be changing the value). I'll install it now and see if the problem still occurs. I don't have much hope that this will help though.
Okay, it just happened again. The application didn't help.
Ok, worth a try...
Have yoyu considered flashing to a different rom to see if this works? Is there a new stock Rom available?
Ill have to look more into this, maybe msdn has something on it.
Well, I had this problem with both my original Vodafone ROM and the custom one I'm using now. I'm reluctant to flash it again due to the hassle of reinstalling everything again.
I think it may be related to notifications. It just happened again as I got a text message, and last time it happened just before I received a Skype call. When I'm away and come back to find it locked, there tends to be a new icon in the notification area. It definitely doesn't happen every time I get a notification though...
Okay if you want the WHOLE story here goes: (if not skip to the second paragraph)
Last night I came home from working a double shift and was very tired. I was sleepily playing with my phone and my genius self decided to reset my password (since I've recently said my password out loud a couple times when I give ppl my phone and they ask me to unlock it for them) but of course my genius self makes a password to stupe anyone who would dare steal my phone...and in the process dupe myself as well. I dont remember a damn number from the password ...except possibly an 8 and a 1. Anyways I woke up in fright and shock and looked every where on google for a way to circumvent the password. No luck.
Then I remembered that a while ago I changed the settings on my computer so that I didn't have to unlock my phone every time I plugged it in. YAY! Except th one computer that has that feature does not have outlook, or at least outlook isnt working right.
In essence my question is this. Someone please let me know of a program with which I can backup my contacts (and preferably messages as well) without actually having to do any installing on the phone itself or toying with it...since I can't get past the password screen. Basically a program that would be pc based. If not, could someone please lemme know how to do it step by step on outlook? cuz i've tried a millino times (prior to this password fiasco) and have never succeeded...I feel like my outlook isnt the full version or something tho..like some features are gone. I dont know.
Also, could I just go into my phone folder, copy and paste everything out, hard reset, then copy and paste everything in? It wont lemme copy the file "cemail" whatever that it.
PS my phone is an HTC Touch Diamond, the verizon version.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Please help me out, cuz it really is a sucky situation. Especially wen I know that everything in my phone is just a password away. A password that I created....in my sleep. What the heck man. THanks in advance!
Hello, thankyou everyone who takes the time to read this and to help. My HTC Touch Pro, the screen is completely black, it turns on and I can recieve calls and I know the keyboard works, but I cant even tell who it is or what I'm typing since the screen is blacklight and won't show anything. It powers on and off and charges and i can hear the sounds so I think its just a problem with the screen.
I've tried MyMobiler and Pocket Controller, but both cant work for me because I first need to connect to Activesynce or Windows Mobile Device Center, but I can't even see the password I'm typing so I can't unlock the phone to view it on my computer (( so I can't get it to connect to activesync or WMDC.
I really wish it was'nt locked with a password because then everything would be easier I'm so upset by this DDD:
I can't hard reset either because I can't see the screen at all.
Should I try to open it up and replace the screen&digitizer myself? I really don't want to try spending extra money fooling around with the phone if I'm not sure it'll work.
What I'd really love to know, does anybody know how to view the phones screen on the computer without having to unlock the password first from the phone? If anyone can help me with that or find some other method than I'd realyREALLYReallyyyy appreciate that sooo much. I could just type the password from the computer or hard reset and everything.
Or if theres any other method of fixing this that would help too...
Also, I can't take it to Sprint store because its out of warranty/insurance, so
I'm just trying to repair it myself. I've heard of this happening to people before but have'nt ever seen it get fixed.
Again, THANKYOU to anyone thats reads or tries to help !
Have you tried "Hard-Resetting" using the 3 Key Combo? (Hardware Mode)
Or were you trying with the "Clear Data" option? (Software Mode)
I had this when I went snowboarding with my Touch Pro. Turns out slamming the slider shut quite hard fixed the problem.
Hope it helps.
Hello people,
Like 2 days ago, i dropped my htc desire hd on the floor and now 70% of the touch screen is not working anymore, but also i cannot enter my code/password and i cannot remove it by email cause i can't enter it. so i find out some "AndroidScreencast" and i tried to set it up but it returned the error: "List of devices attached" but i can't just get in my phone to change settings, because it only recharges the phone if i put it in my computer, i just need to get rid of that password thing and need to be able to let it work with "AndroidScreencast" but i have seriously no idea how i'm gonna do that.
So maybe there's anybody who has an idea?
Kind Regards,
Gm33
Anybody can help?
if it's hardware problem, you better return it or exchange or get a new one.
I just need to get a way to get into my phone, it would be awesome it control it by pc (windows) or being able to connect a keyboard to it, to reset the password thing. anybody?
Please? I really need all my contacts, photos, whatsapp history, anything on it!
