How to export SMS? - Touch Cruise General

I have a few important SMSes I wish to export to a text file or a word document. Does anyone know how to do this? I cannot seem to copy/paste with the SMS/MMS application found on the 6.1 WM ROM. I'm using the uDK custom ROM. I think the build is July 3, 2008 if I am not mistaken.
Thanks a lot for your help.

some sms backup programs are mentioned in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295178&highlight=restore+MMS

If you know how to use google, you'll find the program you are looking for in about 2 Minutes.
If not, follow this link to download ;-)

I know, it's a trial. But it should be just good enough to do a simple export.

Haha...thanks. Forgot to mention that I didn't want to install additional software if possible. Dumb WinMo. Should have copy and paste for SMS. Ah well. Third party apps will have to do. Cheers.

"Should have copy and paste for SMS. Ah well"
you dont have copy paste for sms?

You should have copy paste. Just hold down on the text area in the SMS, choose Select All from the context menu, Then hold down on the highlighted area and choose copy, then paste it anywhere else, like in notes or something. Then you can sync notes into your outlook or copy the word file or whatever you need to do. If you do not have copy/paste in SMS then perhaps it's a bug on the UDK ROM you're using.

Yeah, I've tried it a few times...even reseted my device. No copy/paste available. It's greyed out when I tap and hold. Guess I'll have to transfer by typing it manually. What a pain in the arse. Maybe it is a bug in uDK. I'll post it on the uDK forum. Thanks for your help.

Honestly, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't install that export program for some minutes
just to export your SMS.
If you like typing sms ... just do so. I'd never act like that.

I haven't been using this but there's an addition for the regular Microsoft Outlooks, a recent release, which exports the messages when you're Synced with Async to a seperate folder in outlook so that you can read it there. you can also export it straight to Personal Folders. I know there's an old app which does that but it doesn't work well on WM6/WM6.1
... if i find it i'll let you know.

Do you mean "Jeyo Mobile Extender" ??

SMS Backup/ Restore
Whenever I change ROMs (even different language sets) I use PIMBackup from dotfred
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
or here
http://www.dotfred.net/
This IMO ist the most versatile/ powerful tool to save your personal data including sms (MMS does not work yet). It also offers textformat. check it out.
Many ROMchefs already include this to their ROMs ... its free

Assigning Custom Actions To Buttons <-- SORTED THIS

Hi
The O2 Active rubbish that comes on the XDA IIs allows you to go straigh to your pop3 inbox via a link in its menu. When I use the hardware email button on the front, it starts up inbox, but it aint my pop3 inbox its the default outlook inbox.
Is there any way of assigning custom actions to a hardware button? Such that pressing the email button pulls up pocket outlook pointing at my pop3 inbox??
Also, whats the best registry editor prog for windows mobile 2003 devices?
Nigel
Found this: http://smartphonedn.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2311&sid=792bf7b2b0944c610a5f683878c821e8
But was hoping not to have to write a bl00dy launcher just to get it to point at my inbox!

Sorted for anyone who is interested
Hi
Sorted this. For anyone whos interested:
Use activesync to copy the file \Windows\AppButtons\Messaging.lnk to your PC. Edit the file with notepad. You could also edit it on the device, but I prefer a decent keyboard!!
The Messaging.lnk file will read something like:
19#"\Windows\tmail.exe"
Change it to read something like
19#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "ServiceName"
The number on the front (in my case #19) should be kept the same as it is currently on your device.
ServiceName could be: Text, MMS, MyPopAcc, blah blah.
There are a load of parameters for tmail.exe by the looks of it. One site that claimed to list them was down/dead.
Save the modified file and copy it back to your device. Now when you hit the 'email' hardware button you'll get the service you mentioned as a default.
You can also stick -attatch on the end i.e:
19#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "ServiceName" - attatch
But I found that this did nothing with email. Maybe with MMS etc.
If anyone knows any of the other commands for tmail, pls post!?
Nigel
If, after changing the file in App Buttons it still launches the messaging pointing at the wrong folder, do the following:
Close the messaging app (completely) from settings --> system --> memory --> Running Programs.
Then goto Settings --> Personal --> Buttons, and change button 4 from messaging to some other program. Tap OK, use the messaging button to start that other program, quit said program, go back into Buttons, and change button 4 back to messaging. Try to launch messaging.
It must cache the old info somehow.
Nigel
i believe you'll find the short cuts is set in the registry and doesn't use the program thats selected on the buttons controle pannel item
Nope, it definately uses the stuff in appbuttons! Perhaps these get read and copied to the registry, dunno, but changing the prog in the appbutton shortcut changes what gets launchen when you hit the hardware button.
Nigel
And, if you want to delete the entire crappy outlook/activesync account try removing the appropriate folder (dunno what it's called now, lol) from:
LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Inbox/Svc/
edit - Incidentally, the new i-mate ROM always starts the messaging client in the 'last viewed' account anyway.
Chris.
LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Inbox/Svc/

Dont trash the outlook key in here. If you do then you will indeed, loose 'outlook' folder in the inbox app (good!), but as a side effect, sms notify will also stop working (unit will not make noise and display part of message when sms received) (bad!)
Nigel
19#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "Text"
Worked first time for me - takes me straight to my SMS inbox
Cheers!!!!!

Shortcut to Text Messages

Does anybody know a way of creating a shortcut to messages and navigating directly to Text Messages. By default it takes you to the last account you were active in.
Pearler
Do you want to start a new message, or just open the SMS inbox?
V
Start a new message.
Thanks
I've got an app. will post it later, hopefully tonight. Still at work.
V
This should work if you put the link in something like Pocket Plus.
Unfortunately as WM2003SE upwards you can't specify whether it is SMS or Inbox or MMS etc, so you will need to make sure the correct account is already selected before using the links.
To edit it, open Notepad and drag the file into the window, then change the name in the To section.

Guys, I've posted programs to quick dial and SMS from shortcuts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26972
Tell me how it goes!
V
PS Anton.Valleyman - these work on the same idea, but have a nice message box on no command line!
Thanks Vijay, the cab responds with not a valid ce cab file. I am trying to install in on a XDAIIs with the latest Rom.
Thanks
Pearler
Aye, though if you've got Pocket Plus you can create shortcuts to the .lnk and it does the same thing as your prog, but only with the inbuilt icons.
I've got about 15 of them as a separate tab of P+.

Ahh "-transport"....what a wonderfully logical name for it...
Bloody programmers, some give the rest of us a bad name!
Ant
pearler - I'm not sure if anyone else had a problem with the cabs, but I've linked directly the executables as well. You'll need a way to make shortcuts though - gsfinder is my weapon of choice.
Ant: yeah, "transport". Who'd a thunk it? [Programmers' joke ]

SMS to multiple recipients in WM 6.1

Is this possible? I'm new to Windows Mobile and I can't find any way of sending the same SMS message to more than one contact. I've done a search on the forum but haven't been able to find a solution frrom those old threads.
Any new and easy solutions you guys know of? Thanks!
Anyone?
I have a new number with my new WinMo phone and need to let all of my contacts know, of which there are around 100.
I like the following, GroupSMS. There are others as well.
Thanks for that.
The problem with I'm having using that app is that I can't sync my HTC Touch HD with Outlook, it just says "Outlook has not been configured". So I have no way of copying the contact from my phone to Outlook and hence am unable to create any groups in Outlook to sync back to my phone.
Help?
Hmm, Ok, I don't use Outlook so don't know how to help with that. May want to bring up those issues within the GroupSMS thread itself, see if others can help.
In WM6.1 the standard messaging client allows for SMS to a lot of people. Simply press the TO: button to add additional people. The format goes like this on mine when auto inserted from the contact list:
Xda Developers <8085551211>; Thresher <8083332222>; etc
When I am typing out multipl contacts in SMS i simply type the name, then hit enter, I then type another name, choose it and go from there.
It sounds like that is what you were asking but you got a lot of varied results. Perhaps groupsms is easier to use or something but I do not know. You only need what wm6.1 has to do multiple sms sending.
Is your Outlook (not Express) in fact setup and operational from your desktop?
i just start a new sms
click [to] text
add a contact click [to]
add another and so forth
I can't understand how it's not an easy thing for MS to implement, if I have a group set up called 'work', in the To: box, I put 'work' and it text's to everyone in the work group? Surely that wouldn't have been hard to implement?

Need SMS Program

Hello.
Can anyone tell me a good SMS manager software?
One that I can select messages from someone and move into a specific folder?
Or one that I can "backup" or save SMS to a single readable file that I can store and read in a computer?
Thanks in advanced!
Take a look at MyPhone. Sounds like just what you need.
I really don't understand the concept behind MyPhone. I'd like a software that I could store (in my computer, not in web) my sms. In order to read them in the computer...
I suggest Jeyo.
Easy and fast, it does everything, you'll love it.

iphone SMS to Android solution?

How would I restore and migrate my SMS from iPhone to Android? I already got the SMS into CSV format in Missing Sync but I can't seem to find a way to get that CSV onto the Nexus One. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Here's what I got down so far. I can convert the sms.db in iPhone to CSV, but the CSV format isn't the standard Nokia, so when I use the Android csv2sms, it doesn't read it. Is there any more direct way?
I am building an CSV importer for Android. But I don't know how Missing Sync format is.
Could you please send me a sample file? (not your real content of cause, you can send me via my private box [email protected])
Thanks and Regards,
Bao
Update: please visit http a.baole.org /sms-migrator to see how migrate your sms from your old mobile to android phone. You can also download app from Android Market named "SMS Migrator"
That'd be awesome. Unfortunately, my SMS is a bit private and its quite large (20mb) so I cannot email it to you.
Code:
"Type","Date","Time","Number","First Name","Last Name","Company","Message","Device"
"Sent","3/19/08","4:59 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Joe","Smith","","blah blah blah message here","So and So’s iPhone"
"Received","3/19/08","6:42 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Jane","Doe","","whatever the message goes","So and So’s iPhone"
The xxx-xxx-xxxx is the phone number. Date and time is pretty obvious. Type is just send and received. Name is separated into first and last. I don't put any contacts by company, but I guess it exports it by that too. The message is the main part of the SMS. The device is the phone name defined in iTunes. I'm sure you're familiar with that if you have an iPod.
When you're done, I can test it for you if you'd like. I shot you an email too in case you don't visit here often.
I may extend my Nokia csv2sms if you wish, too.
Please send me a sample file of your exported sms if you have a special format. Thanks
I'm pleased to inform you of a new release of Csv2Sms !
This new version enables users to import their SMS messages from any format for FREE (0.00 $). (CSV, XML or even SQL !)
Check this out at shar.es/mb0OA
Goo'Luck !
Thats not even the original iPhone format but something else...
The original what you get out of "message" table from sms.db looks like this:
Code:
"ROWID","address","date","text","flags","replace","svc_center","group_id","association_id","height","UIFlags","version","subject","country","headers","recipients","read"
"1","NUMBER_IN_INTERNATIONAL_FORMAT","UNIX_TIME","TEXT_OF_THE_MESSAGE","2","0","","1","0","0","4","0","","COUNTRY_CODE","","","1"
The sent/received tag is contained in "flags" number 2 = received, 3 = sent
I've been struggling to get this working with your athg2sms script, but it doesn't still work...
I just wrote something that may help you, you need to install "SMS Backup & Restore" from the Android Market, though - then you can import the generated XML file.

when I try the DB the website fails.
Can anyone help me out here
I have extracted the SMS.DB file from my iphone and have SMSMigrator installed on my andriod; just need to convert from the db file to an xml
Thanks in advance

Hi gwoo_ca, please read the instructions on the page - there's a link to "SMS Backup & Restore", which can read the XML.
Yes, sorry that is the andriod program which I am using (not sms migrator)
I think the problem is the XML conversion website, doesn't seem to work when I choose db on the drop down menu.
Maybe I am just dumb but I just can't get it to work
Okay, give it a try now - i've reinstalled my server a couple of days ago, maybe there was something missing. Works for me now!
Awesome, that did the trick
Don't know what you did but it works great now so can't complain
Much appreciated
Hey guys , what if I wanna do vice versa ? Convert text from android to iphone ? any idea ?
