Raphael 100 (GSM/UMTS) & 800 (CDMA) - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey guys and gals, noticed in several places that it looks like there are two versions of the Raph in the pipeline:
Raphael 100 - GSM 900, 1800, 1900 & UMTS 900, 2100
Raphael 800 - CDMA 800, 1900
So I'm guessing if this info is correct then carriers such as sprint and verizon will be getting the Raph aswell maybe?? Perhaps in contrary to an earlier thread stating sprint was NOT getting the Raph?
Im still unclear as to which frequency it is that AT&T/Tmobile is using for thier 3G service, could somebody enlighten me with that one?
Given that we have an AT&T ROM already available this must be a pointer that they are carrying it however the 3G status of the Raph for thier service is still in debate.

EDIT: Adding the info to the wiki, will remove if it turns out to be bogus

As far as I know the 3g for AT&T is 850mhz and T-mobile is (will be) 1700/2100

HTC Diamond for USA will have 1900 band only?

From the FCC application it looks like the HTC Diamond for USA will have 1900 band only? Is it true?
I bet it will have 850mhz GSM and 1900mhz HSDPA
Considering when they launched the first GSM touch last year in Europe, the specs listed it didn't have 850mhz and it did, my guess is this may be the same. Or at least I REALLY hope that is the case.
sorry for the double post.
I hope so too but check this out:

This is for the DIAM100 version of the phone. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there is also a DIAM200 version of the phone. Maybe that has the other frequencies/larger range of frequencies.
Well, I hope you're right...
if you've noticed the newer HTC devices have the qualcom chip with is quadband gsm 850/900/1700/1900 and triband umts (cant remember the bands right now) but maybe they're working to integrate T-mobiles us umts band...

accessing 3g

I have an unlocked touch cruise with t-mobile in the us, but don’t understand how, or if I can, use the 3g function for internet data access. My questions are as follows:
1. How do I find out if my phone is the European version or the US version (each has differing specs on accessing the 3g network).
2. If it is the US version, will I be able to access the 3g network on t-mobile or AT&T in the US?
3. If it is the European version, will I be able to access the 3g network.
4. How do I know whether my phone is accessing 3g or not?
5. Is there a software fix to allow me to use either the European version or us version to access 3G.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Dave
there's only one version of the Cruise out:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=798
These are the frequencies:
Network HSDPA/UMTS: 2100 MHz (Europe), 850/1900 MHz (USA)
HSDPA: Up to 384kbps for upload and 3.6Mbps for download
UMTS: Up to 384kbps for upload and download
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz (The device will operate on frequencies available from the cellular network)
It's triband 3G. It is currently working on ATT 3G in the US. I don't know about TMobile is there 3G network up and running, and if so I don't remember what frequency that might be at.
The icons at the top point to what type of network E/G is Edge, while 3G/H is 3G.
You can go into the Phone Settings under Band and see some of the different frequency choices. You can force it to be on Edge/GSM there or Auto (which will pick up 3G if it's available).

As I understand it (for internet data access) the european version (as alluded to in your quote) works at Network frequency: HSDPA/UMTS: 2100 MHz (Europe), the American version at the frequencies: 850/1900 MHz (USA). If my phone is the european version, then it works at 2100, and will not access usa networks, unless there is a fix.
t-mobile is 3G in my area.
How to I access the "phone settings under band". I cannot find this on my phone.
Thanks
What I am saying is the device can function on all 3 frequencies listed on the specifications page. I believe the Tmobile 3G frequencies are 1700/2100. You might want to search on the forum and check it out for sure. If it is 1700 you are out of luck. Here are some threads discussing it.

Go to Start -> Settings -> Band tab. If you don't have it, there is a registry tweak that enables that tab.

hmmm, htc told me there were two versions that the european version does not have the capability to switch to the us frequencies, which the specs list as 850 / 1900, but is only using the 2100 frequency. I'm not sure htc tech support is always accurate.
However when I go to the band tab via comm manager, settings, phone, band, it shows me (found with your assistance) that I can select gsm (1900 + 850) + UMTS(1900+850). I assume I should use this setting rather then auto.
T-mobile claims they use the 1900 and 850 bands. I am still at Edge.
I have not had time to read the threads you listed, and will do that later today. Perhaps I will have more questions then, but for now, did I select the correct gsm settings?
Thanks,
Dave
3g access
ok, read the posts you mentioned.
More information about differing versions
from phonescoop.com:
Versions of touch cruise for different regions support different 3G frequency bands.Eurasian version is WCDMA 2100 only)
I assume that since the 850 and 1900 is listed in my setup program, I have the usa version, if phonescoop is correct about two versions.
Since t-mobile works on 1700 I assume I cannot have 3g with them.
Will I get 3g with AT&T?
i personally have never heard of 2 different versions of the Cruise. I have one presumably imported from the UK and works on 3G here.
Btw the Cruise manual says this:
FunctionalityHSDPA/UMTS: 2100MHz for Europe, 850/1900MHz for USA HSDPA: Up to 384kbps for upload and 3.6Mbps for download UMTS: Up to 384kbps for upload and download
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band (850, 900, 1800, and 1900)
There is only one version of the Cruise.
Also a caveat about the bands available in the Band tab of the Phone Settings. I believe some options might be available in the drop down even though the phone doesn't support it. Best thing is to look at the phone specs.

Bodison,
My phone has the same features in your picture.
1. Hambola states
"Also a caveat about the bands available in the Band tab of the Phone Settings. I believe some options might be available in the drop down even though the phone doesn't support it. Best thing is to look at the phone specs."
suggesting what's in the picture may not be in the phone.
2. He also states:
a.
"FunctionalityHSDPA/UMTS: 2100MHz for Europe, 850/1900MHz for USA HSDPA: Up to 384kbps for upload and 3.6Mbps for download UMTS: Up to 384kbps for upload and download
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band (850, 900, 1800, and 1900)
b.There is only one version of the Cruise."
The phone specs restate what he states in 2a.
A and B seem to contradict one another. Unless it means that the phone is capable of all the MHz frequencies mentioned (850, 1900, and 2100), and when used in Europe it accesses 2100 frequency, and in the US the other frequency. This is not clearly stated in the specs.
If the allusion to functionality does not mean that the frequency used depends on where the phone is used, then therefore there are two versions, with hsdpa/umts for europe (2100) and another for USA (850/1900). In any case, HTC (probably not the ulimate source of reliability) states that there are indeed two versions.
According to Hambola's reference to the caution that what is in the picture may not be in the phone, what is in the picture shows what is in the specs of the phone. He is therefore suggesting that what is in the specs of the phone (as shown in the picture) are not reliable. Not sure what the implications of this are.
I have been reading other posts about 3g with ATT. Is it safe to assume that (if there is one version of the phone, or I have the one that is able to access the US bands as shown in Bodison's picture), that I will be smokin when I switch to ATT in January when my contract runs out?
I am pretty sure there is only one version of the Cruise and it has those 3 bands listed for 3G. In fact there are guys on this forum that have the UK Orbit O2 running on the ATT 3G stateside.

In any case, I tested my phone with a buddy's ATT sim card and was able to access 3G for browsing just fine.
I agree there is one version, though the HTC rep told me otherwise, he was probably....

Why no 850 Mhz band on New HTC Phones?

I have done some searches and have not found a valid answer to this question. Since the HTC Touch Pro (Rafael), HTC has only put only the UMTS 900 & 2100 3G bands on their unlocked phones. Every phone released since then, has not had the UMTS 850 Band used in North America.
One response HTC purportedly gave was that due to the smaller size of the Touch Pro and the inclusion of GPS, there just wasn't room for more bands. I think this argument is pure BS. The Kaiser had three UMTS bands: 850, 1900, and 2100 and GPS. Making it good for The U.S. and Europe. All the new unlocked devices have 900 and 2100 - for Europe and Asia.
HTC's Touch Pro 2 is also following this disturbing trend having only the 900 and 2100 bands. So European businessmen traveling to the U.S. get no 3G reception on their expensive "top of the line" phone. What's HTC going to say now, there's no enough room in that monster the Touch Pro 2?
Along the sames lines, those in North America cannot buy direct an unlocked 3G phone. They will have to buy their phones directly from AT&T or T-Mobile and get locked into a long term contract to get one.
Everyone on this forum should be upset about this. My guess is that HTC is bowing to pressure from carriers to make the phones unusable on other carriers. This lets the carriers stick it to the customer.
Personally, I'd like to see Quad Band 3G in the phones so they can be used almost anywhere like they could with the Edge networks.

[Q] TMOUS Sensation 4G in Europe

I am travelling to Europe soon and can't really find out if the Sensation will fully work there. I am getting it SIM unlocked through TMOUS, but I am unsure about the actual bands it supports. I know it will work for standard GSM calling since where I am going 900 MHz is standard, but what about data? Will I at least be able to get 3G? Searched hi and low and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Thanks.
Paul
same boat
I'm in the same boat here. I leave for Ireland in the beginning of September, and hope to bring my T-Mobile Sensation (factory unlocked also). If anyone has any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated. 3G is a must now a days.
Go to gsmarena and look for the bands of the HTC Sensation and compare it with the Tmobile Sen 4g
just got back from spain/ibiza after a two week vacation:
i had a sim that ONLY did phone/sms and a friend had a sim that did data...but he kept complaining about the speed, so i'm assuming the speeds are edge-like. again, this was in ibiza and our choice of sims was limited...
HTH
gsmarena for htc sensations
that was a good idea hytl, looks like the tmobile version has two more frequencies on the HSDPA but everything else is the same. So our phones should work fine with 3G.
US Version
General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 - For Bell (Canada)
European Version
General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
Anyone know why the T-Mobile version doesn't pick up AT&T's 3G?(here in America) from what I've read online AT&T use's 850 and 1900, and gsmarena says it the T-Mobile Sensation can pick up those frequencies, but I dont get any 3G. actually I dont even get edge, I can just make phone calls and text, no data whats so ever on AT&T's network. dont know if i should start a new thread, but its confusing the hell out of me. Could it be a software lock? its not rooted or anything.

[Q] Does huawei ideos support T-Mobile 3g?

Hi
I was told this would be a better forum for this question.
I have a huawei ideos (older non X6 version) and supposedly it is unlocked. It works with 2g/edge. It does not work with t-mobile 3g. I have looked for APN information and the info downloaded to the phone when I connected to t-mobile network is identical to what is listed on the net.
ie. I added
MMSC: http<colon><twoslash>mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
xxx added because I can not post urls.
Things which are odd. When choosing access network, it does not say T-mobile 3G. It only says T-mobile 2g, Att 2g and Att 3g. According to the net this phone supports the frequencies for tmobile.
gsm link for u8150 not allowed.
shows HSDPA 900 / 2100 / AWS
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 1700
And the wikipedia entry for tmobile
shows
1700 MHz/2100 MHz UMTS (W-CDMA)/HSPA 4G (formerly 3G[31]) 2006 2008 (3G), 2010 (Marketed as 4G) First carrier in the U.S. to deploy services on AWS frequencies. Markets HSPA+ as "4G". UMTS band IV
Not sure if HSPDA spec is same as HSPA though.
I did the trick where you enter #*#*4636*#*#* and checked phone settings. I changed the setting from CDMA to GSM auto (PRL). I also tried to hit menu and select radio band, but it pulls up an empty "Set GSM/UMTS Band" dialog. There is nothing to select.
I guess my question is, does this phone support 3G for t-mobile and if so, what setting am I missing?
thanks in advance.

I got an email from Huawei support
Hi,
Just as another data point. I got an email regarding this issue from Huawei support. They said an unlocked phone from one provider may not fully support 3g on T-Mobile. I asked them what he meant by not fully support.
Here is an excerpt from the Huawei email:
This phone is capable to be used in 3G that is correct, however if the phone is unlocked from the original provider it may not be fully compatible on 3G on the different providers network.

three more datapoints
Hi
I got another note from Huawei. They said they don't support unlocked phones.
I talked to t-mobile support. They said the u8150 uses PPP and not RMNET. I have never heard of RMNET, and that the phone would only support 3G if it was rooted.
This seem like BS all around to me. T-mobile and Huawei.
I did test my phone with a friends tmobile sim and the phone behaved the same. ie. edge only.
Some more datapoints
Hi
This phone is available in two different frequency capabilities. Considering mine can see the ATT 3G network, it must be using the second set of frequencies. This second set is listed as usable by T-Mobile as well. Here is the info:
From the huawei spec sheet.
At the top it shows
UMTS 900/AWS/2100MHz or
UMTS 850/1700/1900/2100MHz;
EDGE/GSM/GPRS: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
According to Wikipedia
ATT
850 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
850 MHz UMTS/HSPA 3G
1900 MHz UMTS/HSPA 3G
700 MHz LTE 4G
T-Mobile
850 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
1700 MHz/2100 MHz UMTS (W-CDMA)/HSPA 4G (formerly 3G[31])
When I connect to wireless networks, I see three choices:
T-Mobile 2G
AT&T 2G
AT&T 3G
So I am guessing my u8150 is using the second UMTS set of frequencies:
1. 850 (since it sees two edge networks and that is only available in the second set.)
2. 850 and 1900 (since it see's AT&T 3G and it is also in the second set)
This second set of frequencies is also used by T-Mobile so I don't understand why this phone can not connect to T-Mobile 3G using my simcard or my pals.
It's all about the supported 3/4g bands. Most carrier Androids only support their networks spectrum's. Check gsmarena to ensure compatibility.
Hi,
Thanks for the info. Maybe I don't understand, but I thought gsmarena showed this phone as using both the Att and Tmobile bands. I remember when I had nexus ones was that one version was for ATT 3G and one was for TMobile 3G. I'm guessing that the 8150 is similar with the exception that huawei has not published accurate docs. ie. their docs say both frequences for all phones when in reality its two different model phones with only one label.

I apologize for not reading all of your posts
This isn't BS. It's the same issue facing Cricket phones attempting to connect on Verizon. I'm not fully up to speed but it looks like RMNET needs to be added via the kernel (edit sources and compile).
The below thread isn't specific to Tmo but it should give you some insight.
[04JAN][TMOUS]CMYLXGO's Stripped & Squashed Stock Desire HD[KERNEL:gauner1986][RMNET]
This is what Huawei meant by "may not be supported". However, if the phone connected to Tmo with SIM then it's already carrier unlocked. You now face the above issue plus prl, etc.
You face a long road ahead. My suggestion, sell the Huawei and buy a used Tmo Android.
