WM6.1 - Where's my PhonePad (T9) Input method gone?!! - General Topics

Hi
i've just upgraded from WM5 to v6.1 - and all's well (i think!)
However, the input methods i have are "on screen keyboard" and "letter regogniser" - but gone is my trusty old "Phone Pad" (the one that looks like a standard phone to T9 texting etc)
......is it simply no longer part of WM ?
- if so, do i need to install a 3rd-party softwareto achieve this functionality? - if so, could anyone recommend one?
Help is much very much appreciated.
Richard

I suggested this to someone the other day.
Haven't tried it though, so if you do, let us know what you think.

How to make Pocket PC 2003 input software work on WM 5? (Celluon Laserkey)

I'm pissed. I ordered the Celluon Laserkey CL800BT as a mobile keyboard. But it appears it still has not had drivers/installation software created for WM 5. Nowhere on the seller's website did it mention this very critical piece of information. The Celluon website utterly fails to even mention the existence of WM 5 as something they either support or don't support, it's like they're stuck in 2003.
So, the question is... Is it possible to get this thing working on WM 5? I'm not sure if the input panel changes from 2003 to 5 are so big that the drivers supplied won't work or if it might be possible to just fiddle with the registry keys enough to get it to use the 2003 drivers. I figured out that certain registry structure changes were made in how the input software gets listed and so I tried to "upgrade" the entry for the Laserkey and that got the "Projection Keyboard" appearing in the list, but when I select it it just switches to the built-in WM keyboard input.
So, please, all you super clever people, help!!!
Quincy
Wow, that's a neat product. Thing is there is no difference in software keyboards between WM 5 and 2003 but what you have is a hardware keyboard that connects via BT.
If the drivers don't work it means they don't support your devices hardware or BT stack.
Unfortunately short of writing new drivers i do not see a solution to this.
I assume you tried installing it using the WM 2003 setup?
If it doesn't work i think you should ask for your money back.
Thanks, yeah, I tried the install for PPC 2003 and that completes, but as I mentioned the "Projection Keyboard" option in the SIP list does NOT appear. So I figured how what registry tweaking would make it appear but selecting it doesn't work. I changed the registry to point to the DLL I presumed should be called (there were only 2 that came with it, and I tried both) but nothing. I assume the SIP hooks into the DLL/etc. have changed from 2003 to 5.
It is an amazing product, if only it worked. Celluon must be in bad shape or something for them not to have current drivers (I contacted their tech support and have not heard back yet...). There are few things more annoying than having in your hands something that is amazingly cool and having absolutely no ability to use it.
I talked to the seller and it looks like they'll take it back, but I'm stunned they wouldn't have a big warning or at least a little warning/mention of the fact that it won't work on the current PPC OS.
So, warning to all, don't buy the Celluon Laserkey if you've got WM 5!
Quincy
One thing I just thought of, probably should have mentioned it before (this is really stupid of me):
Maybe the DLL you are messing with is not a SIP DLL at all? This is a hardware keyboard and it should work no matter what software keyboard is selected.
So try to do a clean installation (so your registry tweaks won't get in the way) and just open Word for example and type.
Also maybe it needs parring or some special BT settings?
Good suggestion, Levenum. I don't know exactly it is supposed to work, but I do know that you use the SIP selector to choose the "Projection Keyboard" and then it takes input from the keyboard. So, I'm pretty sure it really does act as a SIP. I've tried re-installing a few times, along the lines you suggest, having cleared everything out but still no luck.
I guess I'll wait another couple days and ship it back. I've written several times to Celluon but have yet to hear anything.
Quincy
Hmm, if they have written it this way (its possible of course) it would be a very stupid approach.
I had a chance to use a couple of hardware keyboards and they usually work separately from the SIP system be it BT or IR keyboard.
Strange that company creating a product primarily for mobile devices seems to know so little about them.
I too have the same problem with my IPAQ hx2490b running WM5.
I have found this web site which hosts a Celluon Laserkey driver for WM5 which installs OK without any registry changes.
The problem is that when the Projection Keyboard is seleted from the Input list and from the keyboard icon, I get a message to say BTM Cannot get current state. If I exit from the driver screen, I then get an error to say that the serial port is in use by another device which should be stopped before trying to use the Projection Keyboard again.
I have removed all of my other BT pairings, done a hard reset and started from scratch to no avail.
The CL800BT pairs OK until I load the driver. If anyone has any ideas for a workaround or has had success in getting this keyboard to work under WM5 I would be grateful for your advice.
I have emailed Celluon but have had no reply. The UK distributor has been trying to sort this for me for a week with no success.

Thanks for the info guys I found the web site and installed the 2005 drivers but as I expected I have the same problemb< ihave tried Celluon (waste of time never reply)
Looks like my new toy will have to go back unless anyone finds the answer

Dear all,
there is a WM5-driver on the plawa page aviable -
and it's working as well on WM6 (testet with Hermes)!
okay, that's not a surprise - but the german shortcuts
are working as well!
can I have a link to the plawa page you refer to? I want to use it on wm6 too.
thanks

Where's my PhonePad input?

Hi
a newbie here - so sorry my first post is a question (though i have tried doing searches first for the answer - but to no avail)
I've (somehow!) upgraded my Mini-S to TNT-19213 - fantastic interface etc
However, when it comes to input options, I just have
"Block recogniser"
"Keyboard"
"Letter recogniser"
....but no longer do i have "PhonePad"
any thoughts on how i can get this back? Many thanks
Hi
from looking around, i think i'm right in thinking that the PhonePad (T9 input etc for text messages etc) doesnt come with WindowsMobile-6.1 ? ....and so you have to use a 3rd party product
If this is the case, could anyone suggest a good one to install?
Many thanks

Input > auto suggest = useless?

With my TyTN = Hermes and WM6.0 the autosuggestion of words seems much better than the Raphaels (at least in the hardware keybord stance).
Can someone explain why that is or if I have haven´t understood the utility or something else right?
With TyTN it basically suggests 4 alternatives in a diagonal way, it can be one word or SEVERAL words in a row, depending on what I´we written before. And you choose from them with the upp and down arrow keys. Simple and quick.
With Raphael it suggests several ONLY singular words horisontally, and if it´s not in the dictionary it automatically chooses another word than the one you´we just written (!?). Slow and awkward.
Also - who is behind this solution? Windows Mobile 6.1 or is it HTC Raphaels unique solution?
Thanks in advance
/Danne
Anybody have an opinion or information on this matter?
At least the system is a part of WM6.1 or if it´s Raphaels unique solution? Because I´m thinking about buying a Kaiser with WM6.1 instead and wonder if it has the same solution.
Sorry, no additional info, but I'm in the same boat so to speak.
I find it completely useless, specially since I don't always use English in my SMS messages, and I found that it becomes a nightmare if it doesn't find a match and then forces my word to something it thinks it should be.
What I cannot understand is that under Settings-Personal-Input-Word Completion - I have DISABLED it, but it still friking tries to complete my words, even in keyboard mode???
Do you know of another place to disable this dastardly excuse of a feature?
HAH!
Found it! If you want to disable it completely, the do the following:
1) make sure you disable it under settings - all settings - personal - Word Completion.
2) When you open a new message, bring up the virtual keyboard and look for the button that reads "ABC T9" - it has a toggle on the button, make sure it is on "ABC" and NOT T9 -voila!
Now I can SMS again!
I´m glad I was not the only one being irritated about this. But at least it´s possible to turn it off, so thanks for posting the solution Piie
I actually returned my TP because of this and severeal other reasons but I´m thinking about buying it again or some other WM6.1 phone. So do you know if your solution to turn if of works with Word Mobile documents as well?
And still, if somebody knows if it´s part of Raphael or WM6.1, please let me know.
Agreed 100% on the uselessness of word completion feature on the TP. On mine, the T9 feature actually slows the sms application so much as to make it completely unusable. This is probably my biggest complaint with this device.
Yip, following the steps as posted also removes the predictive text completely for Word ( and all other apps I have used so far)...
Thanks piie
I believe its part of the TP keyboard (SIP) not WM6.1 , when i had my kaiser with wm6.1 this "IRRITATING" issue was not there, but when i installed the diamond keyboard on my kaiser, this thing came out...... now its part of the TP because of its keyboard.......... so its HTC
I was getting annoyed with the behavior described in posts 1 and 2, disableds the whole thing too (I had an Excalibur before and it seemed to work far better on this particular aspect).
However, I decided to give the TP's T9 another shot and started changing it's configurations and finally got rid of the annoiance related: when on a text field, bring up the T9 options by pressing "Fn" + "Space", select "T9" settings and on the screen that appears uncheck the "Spell Correction" and "Auto-substitution" boxes.
Now I'm using the word prediction (T9) again just like I used in my old device, tipying much faster! (specially because I commonly write in portuguese and my keyboard is the UK one...).
Hope this helps you guys.
Cheers.
Sweet!
So you can still have predictive text, but remove the actual "irritant" of it overriding your word if it doesn't match it's dictionery - seems like that is the answer to your problem Danne?
For me - I really don't care for ANY kind of prediction - most often than not, even in English, the suggestions are maybe 30% usefull if that...
Great!
Yes, this is solution and now I know it´s part of Raphael/Diamond and not WM6.1!
Still, the Hermes WM6-solution with prediction of several words based on what you previously have written seems better. But I am happy with this!
I guess that´s the last words for me in this discussion.
Thanks guys!
just wondering how to disable word completion without installing htc ezinput, because at input settings by disabling it, doesn't work at all.
here's everything you need to know on how to get back to the old style autocorrect and change your dictionaries: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1527
That however breaks your hardware keyboard
sym key will stop working and you can't get pound and euro sign using FN key....

Questions about HTC Cruise

I recently switched from using the ATT Tilt to the Cruise (mainly because it's smaller/lighter to carry around) It's mainly working ok, but I have a few questions:
1) Does anyone know of a decent handwriting recognition software out there I could use? On the TILT i got used to the "block-recognizer," as the lesser of evils, but i would LOVE to find software that can use the whole screen. I use these devices a lot, so after a while that lower left corner becomes all scratched up (even using a screen protector) , and then you have to pay about $200 for a new screen, since the characters no long respond well to Block Recognizer. I"ve tried the "Transcriber" that comes with Windows Mobile 6, and it seems awful, as do the several other programs i found online, such as Pen Writer and Caligrapher, i think they're called? Back when i used Palm/Treo devices, i really loved the Teal Script program, but it doesn't seem to work for W Mobile? Anyone know of anything that could work??
2) Some things worked better on the Tilt, i guess becuase of the ATT software? For example, on Tilt you can use the word completion software in the Calendar mode, but on the Cruise it doesn't come up. And the word completion software "remembers" two-word or longer phrases in the ATT Tilt software, but not in the Cruise. Is there any work-around to be able to do this on the Cruise too??
3) Is it worth trying to upgrade to 6.1 on the Cruise, through some kind of cooked ROM, or better to wait until HTC finally (hopefully) releases the 6.1 ware??
Thanks much!!
Daniel
1. sounds like transcriber

Sorry, but Transcriber is already on the device, and it seem terrible to use?!! Isn't there ANYTHING out there that works ok??
Thx much!

WM6.5 original keyboard

Hi to all,
I'd like to install the original keyboard (usable with the stylus) present on WM6.5 original rom. Can anyone help me to find the cab?
sometimes it's very useful because it leave more room for the background application
Thanks
tistian
I need the same!
Are you looking for the stylus keyboard present on devices prior to the Pro 2? If yes, then I have been searching for the same. I have recently found a registry edit to get it to work. Currently testing. Shall let you know if it works.
I'm look forword it
Thanks
Bump! Bump! Bump!
BumpingBumping
When you guys talk of "stylus" keyboard, are you ref. to the tiny querty keaybord seen in windows mobile 6.1?
Yes, that's what we want. I am currently having a HD2 TOUS being delivered to me and I am waiting for it.
In advance, I am reseraching my tinkering options with this device. I still have my old yet enduring Himalaya by hand. I'll try and see if I can do some tweaks by copying files from my Himalaya to Leo. Will post updates if I am successful.
I found the solution. Please bump if anyone is interested, as I have lost the links and sources and it will be tedious to me to find and re-credit my sources.
However, should you want to do it yourself, the solution is basically finding the right keys that correspond to the old keyboard you want (i.e. Keyboard, Block Recognizer, Handwriting recognizer) under HKCR\CLSID and changing the data of the value of key "IsSipInputMethod" to 1, then downloading SIPChange to select that keyboard. You need SIPChange as it is the only way to select the keyboard without HTC Input taking over.
