I have SPL 2.21 and can't flash to WM6

Hello everyone,
I'm totally lost in this WM6 upgrade.
I've tried everything but i wont get my MDA Vario to flash with WM6.
My MDA Vario is unlocked (sim and CID) but i can't flash it because of my SPL 2.21????
This is what i have done:
installed button's 1.05 ROM
Download & installed lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b.
But stil my SPL is at 2.21.
Can someone please help me out here??

Both your IPL and your SPL must be 2.xx and higher. After you flashed to Buttons rom. did you reflash to a higher version after after you unlocked and cid unlocked your phone to make sure both IPL and SPL were 2.xx or higher?

I've followed the tutorial:
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
My IPL was 1.XX after the 1.05 downgrade, but my SPL was still 2.21 even after the rerun.
I have tried to instal T-Mobile 2.26 rom, but it gave an error.

check if you have G3 or G4 unit

I have a 3G device.

I think that you haven't unlocked the phone properly. Read Dr. P's tutorial about unlocking G3 phones.

if your ipl is 1.05 and your spl is still 2.21...then you need to reflash again so that both ipl and spl are 1.05 before you can proceed. ipl and spl should never be different.

WHen you downgrade to the Button rom, in most cases the IPL will change, but the SPL will not. You then have to downgrade again to get the SPL to get to 1.xx . There have been some cases reported where it takes reflahsing the button rom many times (like 8 times or somesuch) before the SPL will finally come down, but you have to complete this step or you will not be CID Unlocked.
Make sure you have your SD card out when you are flashing as this can cause problems.
Good luck, and sorry, but for those that have run into the stuck SPL there hasn't been a real solution other than keep flashing the button rom until it drops down to 1.xx. After that then the CID unlock will be complete and you can then flash the T-Mobile 2.26 rom (or whatever other 2.xx rom you want).

The Dr. P tutorial specifically says this (just not in those words). It tells you (after the last lokiwiz) to watch your screen and that you most likely will still have an SPL of 2.xx and will need to reflash (most people just don't read this and try to move on). The part of about having to reflash numerous times is new though. I've only heard of it a few times, but if you look at the posts from a month or so agao in the Dr P thread on unlocking you'll see where a few people ran into it and it took numerous flashes to finally get SPL to go to 1.xx.

before wm6 roms, every time there was a new rom for wm5 (molski or faria) you'd always get people in the thread mentioning that their ipl and spl are different. in those threads, the advice has always been to reflash a few extra times too. (I personally haven't had any problems with this...but i think i started my unlocking on a 1.8 us t-mobile rom with xelencin's rom...which had an unlocker built into the rom update package).
anyway, the phone's not bricked or anything, so you just have to keep flashing to get it working...

I've re-flashed 3 times but if i understand correct, than i have to retry flashing until SPL and IPL are the same?

yes. ipl and spl should both drop to 1.05. at that point you can go through the unlock and flash back up.

Vox Update SPL (USPL) 1.16

Hi guys,
I've just implemented a Vox USPL which allows you to flash any Vox ROM updates, i.e. you can flash any *official* ROM even if your phone's model and vendor ID doesn't match. It's confirmed that you can also flash cooked ROMs
This SPL is based on original Vox 1.16 SPL but includes 3 patches:
1) g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0 (set 32)
2) Does not check Model & Vendor ID
3) Does not check signature*
(*) code must be formally signed i.e. contain properly-formatted signatures on the right places, however no checking is performed against them.
This means you can flash ANY ROM to your Vox after running USPL on it, no need to pay for CID unlock anymore!
The USPL will *not* help you to SIM unlock your device. You still have to pay for that.
The USPL runs in RAM and is *not* flashed to your device, so there is no risk there. Once it runs you can run any official Vox ROM update utility.
The USPL does *not* permanently CID unlock your phone, like the CID unlocker from imei-check or so.
After you flashed a ROM your phone is again CID locked. Each time you wonna flash a ROM with a different model and/or vendor ID (different from your phone) or a cooked ROM, you must run the USPL again and then flash the ROM.
It's beta and untested and the risk is entirely yours !! Don't blame me if you brick your phone
EDIT:
You can now also flash the USPL allowing you to flash any unsigned (cooked ROM or ROM module, e.g. radio or OS) or signed ROM with any model/vendor ID. The USPL substitutes your SPL until you perform a full ROM update. Consider it as an extra insurance in case something goes wrong with flashing cooked ROMs or any other ROM update !
Instructions:
1. Run the USPL (Vox USPL- CID BYPASS.zip)
2. Run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe (Vox-USPL-RUU.zip)

what the difference between sim unlock and cid unlock?

This can be found in various threads around here, anyway.
SIM Lock - You can't use a SIM from a different provider than the one who sold you the phone.
CID-Lock - You can't flash your phone with a ROM which hasn't been cooked by your provider (or manufacturer for HTC unbranded phones).

anyone online right now wanna drop me a line about this... what do I do exactly with the ruu file. Do I place rom image in that folder while runnning update???

so i followed the instructions and executed the cid bypass(installed itsutils and haret). once i get to the end it says use mtty or flash with RUU. so I attempt to flash right after (am I supposed to flash while the screen is black) but its gives me a connections error. I figure its because the phone is off. So I turn it on and update with the RUU again but only make it to 3% before I get a invalid vendor id. Would anyone care to comment on how I can flash this vox to the dopod rom...

To the users who had the same problem as me I am currently flashing my phone and I managed to get past my problem by using the SDA Application unlocker on my vox. I always thought that HTC were already application unlocked. Was going crazy for a while but I guess I should've followed the instructions step-by-step regardless of what I thought.
Big up to jockyw2001(and of course pof for without him alot of us would still be using shipped rom) for this wicked tool.

I only got this phone so I could upgrade it for a friend to stop the boot loop. It seems to have fixed that problem so I guess it's better than the other roms. On the other hand I can't stand smartphone's so my suggestion is to ditch your SP and switch to PPC . Also I read before hand that this ROM doesn't include Windows Live Messenger but it is included in the rom. Just thought I'd let u guys know.

Just ran into another problem and would appreciate some input. I understand that USPL only works for one flash...but I wasn't aware that a hard reset counted as a flash. Regardless my device hung at the dopod boot screen after a hard reset. Is this normal after using USPL on a device, and if so does this occur with all devices??? I would hate to give a phone back and have to tell the person that they can't perform a hard reset...

If you flash a full ROM the SPL is overwritten with the one in the ROM (Dopod = 1.19). Nothing to do with USPL. Booting can take a long time after hard reset. Unplug battery and try again.

Thanks, I got it to work eventually...Good to know USPL doesn't effect hard resets, I guess you learn something new everyday.
If I had to take a guess before hand I'd figure a SP would boot faster than a PPC, but I realize now that I'd be wrong...

thought I fixed the problem. seems as if after a day it just hangs at the dopod screen. It was working fine everytime I had it. As soon as I give it back it seems to hang. Guess ima just flash it back to the HTC rom, too much hassle for just $20.

I made up a new version of pof's USPL, which is explicitly for the ELFIN 128/256 MB devices. So now you can flash SPL in step three without bricking your ELFIN, as USPL for ELF used to do.
This version is based on the ELFIN 2.20.0000 SPL and was patched the same way as USPL for ELF.

i have the same question.

I received a "corrupt image error" at step 3, i rebooted the device and is working fine like nothing has happened, any clues?
I have this ROM installed:
RUU_Elfin_CHT_OPEN_2.20.753.1B_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_BLUE_Ship_Reduced.exe
IPL 2.20.0002 and SPL 2.20.0000 both remain unchanged after running elfin-uspl.exe

as i used it to update my ELFIN without any problem

With pof's ELF USPL you are able to proceed till the end step 2 and then flash the ROM you want. If the ROM is not okay, your device is bricked.
Also, for like 99 percent of our ELFIN users, flashing USPL in step three used to brick the device.

Can someone please clarify this for me.
I bought my cellphone from Vietnam, and it is unlocked. It is windows 6 prof, and I am very serious about flashing my baby to 6.1. When I was in Vietnam, I was using VietTel, t-Mobile, and in Mexico using Telcel.
BUT I bricked my iMate Sp3i before, and didn't want(CAN'T afford) to brick another one.
The question would be.
Because it is unlocked. Do I need to CID Unlock my Elfin P3452 before upgrading to 6.1? Thanks in advance.

somemore questions..
after runnig 2 steps successfully in pof's app, if rom update fails then i think it does not brick all the time.. atleast not 99% !!
is SPL temporary updated means after some update again CID is locked?
or it is permanent?

my problem is that my elfin gets stucks with that stupid penguin and 75% on my pc in step 2... doesnt move ahead at all.. did install the rapi cabs too.. did reset too.. any help or tips or guidance would be really helpful

Try with a hard-reset, some users get white screen after hard-reseting the device.
and remove SDHC memory card if you have it.

ok.. so it is done on my elfin... so i think.. didnt show me any errors... the ruu worked like a chram too and at last it showed me "Congratulations" but my question is how do i confirm if the cid is really unlocked... i dont wanna flash a good rom and get my touch bricked
Edit: it worked finally and i think my elfin should now be unlocked

HardSPL doesn't seem to update SPL version

Hi I have a G4 Prophet and the IPL and SPL version number reads 2.10.0001.
I would like to flash it to use a WM6.1 ROM with the touchflo type functionality and new IE Mobile features (i.e. zooming).
I have read through all the guides about carrying this out and have even started having a go but am getting confused about HardSPL.
From what I read HardSPL CID Unlocks your phone so that you can install a diffeerent Carrier (e.g. Orange, Vodaphone) ROM ... or in fact a home 'cooked' ROM off of this site.
I have tried manually carrying out the HardSPL using both the Prophet Tools GUI and the command line batch file HardSPL however after the procedure finishes my IPL and SPL do not read differently as all posts indicate (i.e. they do not read 2.G4.4PDA) ... instead they remain as 2.10.0001.
I have seen the phone go to the tri-colour bootloader screen and even the progress bar go up correctly however when it reboots it says 2.10.0001. I'm assuming that I cannot go ahead and flash with a ROM (such as the Shadow TE one until the SPL reads 2.G4.4PDA).
Can anyone offere me some help with getting to this?

I would recommend you use something like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353547 It makes it a one stop upgrade... That uses "JumpSPL" rather than HardSPL which is the short term option.

What is your devices IPL?
It may be because Soft/Jump SPL was not executed properly prior to HardSPL (this is automated through the HardSPL tools and Prophet Tools).

i ran upgrade_hardspl_g4 on my prophet, my spl is 2.15 still... what should i do l3v5y? tried flashing it 5 times still no luck. Please help, having a hard time upgrading roms...

im currently downloading prophet tools 2.8. i currently flashed my 818 with PV_temp rom. i'll try to install the prophet tools and hardspl my phone with it.. hope it works...will update in a few after the installation is done... downloading so slow... =(

ELF IPL 1.17.0002 & USPL 1.17.0000​This is a newer version of USPL for Elf (based on SPL 1.17.0000) for CID unlocking on similar lines of pof's Elf_USPL based on Elf SPL 1.11.0000.
Credits:
1. pof: for the 1st Elf USPL 1.11.0000.
2. ayyu3m: first person to test new USPL 1.17.0000 for me coz i dont have an Elf.
Note:
1. Should be used only on Elf with IPL 1.1X.XXX2. Some Elf owners have been using USPL 1.11.0000 with IPL 2.2X.XXX2 already without any problem. If that is the case, this USPL should work for those IPLs as well, but i can not guarantee.
2. Keep a shipped ROM for your phone in case of emergency.
3. If you are already using patched SPL 1.11.0000, then you can just run the romupdateutility.exe inside RUU folder to flash this SPL.
4. As it is based upon Elf_USPL, 'rapi' should be enabled before using it.
5. Check post 2 for USPL 1.19.0000, post 3 for USPL 2.26.0000 and post 4 for USPL 2.28.0000.

ELF IPL 1.19.0002 & USPL 1.19.0000​Another new USPL 1.19.0000 based on Elf original SPL 1.19.0000 has been patched by kokotas for CID unlocking. The nbh file of this USPL ready to be flashed can be downloaded here.
The procedure of flashing it is similar to previous USPLs and the instructions in post 1 apply to this USPL as well.

Instructions for ELF.
EDIT 30/07/08: As confirmed by eshield (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2465989&postcount=96), Elf owners can directly upgrade the IPL/USPL.
EDIT 06/09/08: Directly upgrading IPL/USPL in one go may or may not work for all of Elf owners (if the Elf is pre-release or old one). If your phone (Elf only) is stuck at Smart mobility screen with IPL 2.26, SPL 2.26, try downgrading the IPL to 1.19 or 1.17.
For users that already have IPL 2.2X series
First make sure your device is application Unlocked. By installing EnableRapi.Cab & Cert_SPC.Cab on your device, then reboot the phone.
Take out MicroSD card from Slot.
Connect Device through Active Sync.
Run the elf-uspl.exe from the Extracted Download (ELF_USPL_2.26.0000.zip)
Watch Screen and Press Enter When Asked.
Screen should Jump to White on Phone and on PC Flashing Loading Bar will Show.
Stuck in Black Ducky Loading Screen?, check Active Sync Connection or Do a hard reset on Phone first. But be sure to do the last Actual Flashing in White Screen. Sometimes this needs a few tries to go through white screen.
Done.
For users that have IPL 1.1X series
Steps below are all recommended to remove Micro SD card.
First Make sure you allready have a Patched Pre 2.26 SPL (ELF_USPL_1.17.0000.zip)
You can install this Patched Wit the Same Instructions as above for the 2.26 SPL.
Then When you have a Patched 1.1X SPL install the 2.26 IPL (ELF_IPL_2.26.0000.zip)
After you have rebooted you can confirm your SPL & IPL versions by pressing Reset Button With Stylus and Pressing and Holding the Camera Button to get into TriColour Bootloader.
Reset Phone Back into the OS And follow instrcutions above for Flashing Patched 2.26 SPL.
At this point you do not to install CertSPC.cab & EnableRapi.Cab
Done
Unless you are familiar with these processes do not try them, and wait for more confirms.
Flashing is done at own Risk and might Void your Warantee.
Note:
You can also update the IPL&USPL to 2.26 together in one go if you are already using the USPL 1.17.0000 or USPL 1.19.0000. This has been tested by ChiemY(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2454555&postcount=44). So,if you are willing to upgrade together, download the ELF_IPL-USPL_2.26.0000.zip file and run the romupdateutility.exe.

ELF & ELFIN IPL 2.27.0002 & USPL 2.28.0000 V2​Guys/gals, the USPL 2.28.0000 based on original SPL 2.28.0000 is ready for both Elf and Elfin

New released USPL28_V2 which has an extra feature (apart from the normal CID unlocking features etc) that you can flash ROM of any size now even below 50 MB using RUU. Yes, this USPL V2 removes the restriction of 50 MB size of ROM for normal RUU and that means the OS.NB doesn't need to be hexed if it is below 50 MB and one doesn't need to flash using SD card in order to gain the extra space.

Ipl 3.07.0002 & Uspl 3.07.0000
IPL 3.07, 3.10 & USPL 3.07, 3.10​This is the latest version of the IPL/USPL based on the original WM 6.1 WWE ROM 3.07.720.03. This USPL will:
1. CID unlock the device for flashing any ROM
2. Remove the restriction on minimum size (previous limit was 50 MB) of the ROM.
PS: the procedure to flash the USPL is same as before. If you are already using some USPL (USPL 1.17, 2.26, 2.28 etc), then you just have to flash the new NBH with RUU. Enjoy !
EDIT (17-11-08): New IPL 3.10.0002 and USPL 3.10.0000 attached

IPL & USPL 3.14​Here is newest IPL and USPL 3.14 . thanks to GPRS for sharing the original source of this IPL and SPL. The features and procedure to flash this USPL are same to that of previous USPLs. I've tested it on my Elfin and it works well

Dump the SPL from Elf(in)
Those who are interested in dumping their SPL from the phone, please follow the steps below:
1. Download the attached archive (thanks to kokotas).
2. Unzip it somewhere (preferably to the root of a drive).
3. Connect your phone to PC with USB cable.
4. Make sure that ActiveSync is working.
5. Run the DSPL.bat file and follow on-screen instructions.
After the SPL dump is finished, you will get a new file named SPL.nbx in the unzipped folder. But this will be a 512 KB dump file and CAN NOT be flashed to Elf/Elfin as such. Therefore, if someone wants to make a working SPL of the dump, please PM me the link of the dumped SPL.nbx file and i'll make a flashable SPL of the same.
EDIT: there is an easier method posted by dsixda to dump the SPL in this thread, i recommend to use that instead of this one.

Unlocks the CID (country ID) so that you can flash any Elf ROM to your phone.
Instead of flashing the USPL you can also run the temporary USPL (white screen method), but if you flash a bad ROM (bricks your phone) then you are in trouble, as the temporary USPL makes your phone back to CID locked afterwards.
The temporary USPL method also is annoying because it requires you to remove your sim/memory cards and may take several attempts to get it finally working... The flashed USPL, on the other hand, will let you run just the Update Utility and nothing extra... plus it works the first time always.

Dumping your IPL
1.Download the attached archive & extract on Desktop.
2.Go inside the folder DumpIPL & run the DIPL.bat
3.If everything went ok, you'll find your dumped IPL.nb in that folder soon
4.Do not use the generated file for flashing untill you post it in this thread & someone check that it's a "good" IPL!

I am very sure mine one is an ELF (64/128) and confirm that changing pagepool size also works using ELF method on NBH file. My ELF is set at 6MB PP.
Moreover, changing the pagepool size with the attached pagepool changer for ELF is not a problem at all. Thanks to the creator for the pagepool changer.

Not only the boot time is reduced, the ELF now runs faster and the memory management is amazing, mine is set at 6MB PP, always show 25-26MB free memory
at most of the time after closing all application except background processes. I can say the memory leak is almost zero.
And the best of all, to flash a ROM, I do not need to take out the SIM card and Memory card.

BTW, one thing I noted with 2.26 patched is that when I try to flash a ROM it will complain about Error 328 (I think), saying that the Update Utility is not compatible. This happens whenever the ROM says it has a version of 1.000.00.0 in the Utility. So if I change it to something like 3.000.00.0 in HTC Tools then it flashes fine

Doesn't happen with me on my ELF and out of laziness i have version 1.000.00.0 set.
(or it might be because of my flashing frenzy)
I can Up my Update utility Next thing morrow.

For the upgrade to 2.26, the procedure say to use elf-uspl.exe to upgrade the
SPL 2.26. If we have the IPL on 2.26 and the USPL 1.17 (or 1.19) why we cant
just update directly from the bootloader ?
And about the upgrade from IPL/SPL 1.19 to IPL/SPL 2.26 directly
in one file from bootloader ?

yes, u should be able to do that directly. those instructions have been posted by Noonski as he was the one to test that on Elf (remember, i don't have Elf to test). but u can try ur method. if it works well, i'll modify the post

The reason why i did not Flash both SPL and IPL at the same time is because i like safety.
So is the version number of ROM flashin related to ELFIN's only?
(You know where you need to put 2.x into HTCRT)
As you can see below.... Why.... Some might do some different Flashing methods and as more Confirms come in this might change the method.
If there's anything none of us want to happen is someone to Brick their phone.

Boot Time vs Patched SPL's
Note: Time measured from the time 'Smart Mobility' appears on the screen. Soft Reset repeated 2-3 times on each USPL
1) USPL 1.11 (IPL 1.11) : ~50 secs
2) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.11) : ~55 secs *
3) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.17) : ~55 secs *
4) USPL 1.17 (IPL 2.26) : ~59 secs **
5) USPL 2.26 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs ***
6) USPL 2.28 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs
Conclusions:
* USPL 1.17 takes ~5 secs longer than USPL 1.11 (bit suprising)
** USPL 1.17 with IPL 2.26 takes distinctively ~60 secs from all the other combinations. Indeed a non-bootable combination.
*** USPL 2.26 and USPL 2.28 takes lesser time to boot conclusively
NOTE: This evaluation alone DOES NOT conclude you must use the latest SPL and IPL. But it gives you a CHOICE, to choose from different IPL and USPL, you can use to customize your device. Pagepool was not taken as a factor, and conducting Boot Time on a pagepooled ROM may also vary the results comparatively.
AND: i did this evaluation to show respect and appreciation on behalf of all others, to those members who give their precious time to this forum and bring out these patches, so that it may and does, help improve the way we can speed up and customize our elf and elfin.
And yeah, I got BSoD for the first time, when i flashed IPL 2.26 and USPL 1.17 and tried to interrupt a soft reset. This concludes what kokotas has said abt non-bootable combinations, like IPL 1.XX with SPL 2.XX or vice versa

Tested on my ELF, it works nicely. My SPL now 2.28.0000.
Will test further once AB release a new UCE ROM whether can flash without taking out the SIM card and memory card
Any chance to have IPL 2.28 too ?

i'm glad it works for u. i have not found IPL 2.28 as yet. however there is IPL 2.27 dumped by someone today and yet to be tested.
