Maybe bigger battery (at least for MDA C IV) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Accessories

I don't want to get your (and my) hopes up, but the battery for the CDMA Version of the Diamond (or more precisely Victor) from Telus seems to be larger than 900mAh. May we can fit it in the MDA, perhaps with a back from the Telus Version.
I can't tell what the exact number is from that picture, but it's definitely a four digit number with a "1" upfront.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/07/04/specs-for-telus-htc-touch-diamond/

reads like "1140" i'd say...a fairly marginal update that would be.

I read that the CDMA version should have 256 MB RAM and a 1340 mAh battery...
You can see it here:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsmartmania.mobilmania.cz%2Fforum%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ft%3D8422&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=cs&tl=en

you think that battery will fit into the mda ?
I mean does the CDMA Version need so much redesign, that they can fit the 1340mAh the the normal victor case, or will it just be a larger back cover.
(at least that would be good im my eyes

I think it's just a larger battery cover, so it will be possible to put the battery from Victor to the MDA + the Victor back cover on it. At least I hope so It would be really great and I like the Victor back cover more. We'll see...

1340 mAh Battery availible in Germany

Hey folks, i just received a email that expansis has shipped out my 1340 mAh battery incl a new cover. This could mean that the battery is finally availiable in germany! looking forward to test it!
is this battery shipped with the backside cover? If yes, is this cover fitting on a O2 XDA diamond?
Hi! I own a o2 XDA Diamond, and yes it is shipping with a fitting backside cover! Here is the link to expansis, remember this is no ad:
http://www.expansys.ch/p.aspx?i=166204
that cover wount fit on your xda diamond!
check this post to compare the backsides: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2605740&postcount=19
Sad to hear this man... has anyone a link to a product 1340mAh or 1700 mAh with a cover that fits my GERMAN VERSION of the XDA Diamond from o2?
I will receive my battery incl. cover the next days, email's out for me as well. I am curious to see, what is different. I just hope, that one can still use it...
Anyone already tried?
Also got an email from Expansys today, should receive mine on Monday .
have been using the offical 1340mAh battery for 2 weeks now.
it gives new life to my Diamond, I bought a Samsung Omnia because of its big battery and were going to sell my Diamond. But then I found Omnia is not as easy to use (only its camera is better than Diamond). I bought the battery before I sold my phone, and I end up sell the Omnia.
How much thicker does the Diamond get with the 1340mAh battery?
I wonder it is same as Touch Pro since they share the same battery. Why not trying Mugen 1000 mAh standard size battery? It really improves and worth trying if you still prefer slim size of Diamond.
if i remember correctly, the extended battery is +3mm and the original size is 11mm so that makes it 14mm. while the Touch pro is 18mm.
hey. received my ext. battery today.
german o2 xda owners: hands off! it doesn't work in our phone. i mean, it works, but you won't be able to put your cover on. it doesn't fit.
anyone in germany with original diamond in need for ext. battery? 40€ incl shipping to germany
and yes, it makes the "original" diamond around 3mm thicker!
I thought O2 Germany was going to release an expanded battery itself....what happened to that project ? They said "end of August"

yes, the new 1340mAh battery is indeed the same one used by the Touch Pro.
How much help would the extra 100mAh do? not much I guess.
I also have the o2 XDA Diamond (should be with me this week) and was looking for another battery - found a few for the for the HTC but now I know the backs are different this will be hard - I originally thought of ebay - but having second thoughts now
Has anyone got a link for the extended battery and back for the O2 version of this phone please
In Germany I found some threads before the following link for the extended battery for the XDA Diamond:
http://www.expansys.de/p.aspx?i=173907
But for me it's too expensive, too.
and that is not the original extended battery. it's thicker than the 3mm people talked about. the phone looks hideous with those inofficial extended batteries.

MDA Compact IV official extended battery+backcover

Hi Everyone,
Any one got this already:
http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/T-M...OMPACT_IV_OFFICIAL_EXTENDED_LIFE_BATTERY.html
It says: In Stock
Can anyone please share some views about performance (GPS,camera, etc.)?
And, what is the most important, does it significantly improve everyday device life?
Thanks.
ooo nice, though that is alot of money for only 1/3rd increase in power,
hi,
yeah, I personally think the price is horrendous.
that is why I want to check whether it`s worth that price.
For £50 you can get 10x 900mAh batteries plus charger ;-))
actually a 50% increase in battery life. i have the Dianond version - well worth the money in my opinion.
Is there anybody who knows when to buy in Germany?

Ok,
I was waiting long enough now, hoping I will get cheaper one from eBay.
I`ve found only 1 seller offering 1800 mAh with ugly humpy cover, so I`ve decided to go for Expansys original one.
Ordered on 1st of Jan, paid £62 with delivery (bit expensive, but I`ll put it on as the Xmas present for myself ), expecting it tomorrow.
I`ll put some photos probably tomorrow evening and put few words about its performance later on (I need to test it first).
Happy New Year to all!

Expansys runs the business all around the world, I`m sure what they offer in the UK is available in Germany as well.
There you go mate: http://www.expansys.de/p.aspx?i=171125
It is 63.99 Euro + delivery.
Cheers.

Hi,
No, I`m affraid it won`t fit. MDA Compact IV has rounded corners, while Diamond is strict rectangle.
There were a few threads about it already.
Hi,
Got this one from GPSforless
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....name=STRK:MEWNX:IT&viewitem=&salenotsupported
and it fits the MDA Compact and the GPS seems to work.
Will post once I have used it a bit.

Hi,
Did a Tom Tom test today. Basically Tom Tom running in demo mode, but with a GPS signal (varied from 3 to 6 sats), backlight on auto. GPRS was on and email was downloading every two hours, weather every hour. Got a total of 5.5 hours. Battery percentages for each hour shown below.
1.93%
2.64%
3.55%
4.44%
5.20%
I did a test with the standard battery before and it was about 2.5 hours.
My MDA Compact III used to get only 4.5 hours so with the extended battery the MDA Compact IV is actually better!!
The extra bulk may be an issue for some I suppose, though I will mainly use this battery for GPS use on my bike. The normal battery usually runs okay for me on day to day use of the phone.

OK, I`ve been using this extended battery for 10 days now.
With 10 texts, 20 minutes of calls a day and 3G switched off it lasts for 3 full days (72h), which I find is very good, compared to 30h on original battery.
The new cover looks very good. It has black/mate finish and has got an ornament (see photos).
My MDA Compact IV is about 3mm thicker and a bit heavier, but it hasn`t lost his sleek and flat look, which was the reason I bought MDA Compact not Daimond. Also, I`ve got a feeling that new size and weight makes it is laying better in my hand.
I had to go for another car holder. First, I though that my Compact with new battery (thicker) will fit into cradle for Touch Pro, but NOT, it was too loose.
So, I`ve bought universal one that will fit from small Nokia to big PDA (can give link to ebay seller, if anyone is interested).
I think the new battery+cover is worth its money.
Cheers.
more photos
here are more photos chaps.
I forgot to add:
It is ORIGINAL HTC extended 1340mAh battery with new back cover, especially for T-Mobile MDA Compact IV.
Very good quality, not cheap HK stuff. And NO AWFUL HUMP!
GPS works OK, absolutely no change compared to the original 900mAh.
No other issues noticed.
I`ll keep you updated when I notice anything.
Very helpful, thanks Tom - I think I might go for this. From where did you purchase the battery/cover? Also, do you have the original HTC pouch - does it still fit inside?
Thanks

Hi,
There are two on-line shops offering these extended capacity batteries:
Easydevices - http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/T-M...OMPACT_IV_OFFICIAL_EXTENDED_LIFE_BATTERY.html
Expansys - http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=171125
I went for one with Expansys, it is a bit dearer than Easydevices one, but I found Expansys more trustworthy and besides if you look at "Easydevices Terms & Conditions", you will notice that if you (for some reason) have changed your mind and want to send it back, they will deduct 20% as a "administration charge", so they will refund price minus 20%, which you can calculate yourself easily.
I didn`t know what I`m gonna get buying over the net, in terms of quality and peformance, cos I couldn`t find any opinions, nor feedback.
So in case, I didn`t like it I went for Expansys one, they don`t do such a "small print tricks".
It will fit original pouch, but for me it`s a bit too tight, especially when someone is calling you and you strugling to take it out to answer.
I`m using "temporary" pouch at the moment - it is SonyEricsson`s and still looking for a nice sleek leather one that will fit my new fatty toy.
That looks sleeker than my "hump" back. Although I personally wanted the double capcity so it does not bother me so much.

Yeah, but there is no photo and it doesn`t even say what kind of backcover is included - with ugly hump or flat?
Is there any one, who went for it, to share some info?
I received mine for my mda C.IV last monday and after a week of use, it was worth every penny. It took a day or 2 to get use to the 3mm addition but i now get 2-3 days use out of my phone between charges were before i barley got 1. Highly advise everyone with battery issues to get one!!!

1350mAh Battery Extension = Thicker phone or what?

Hi!
I just can't seem to get a real answer.
Iwant a higher capacity battery *without*making my phone thicker/larger. What battery can I get or do all the higher capacity batteries make it thicker?
Thanks!
Thicker!
My guess is that if HTC could have fitted a higher capacity battery, without making the device any bigger, they would have done so.
Battery life issues have been discussed since day 1 (May last year, when the Diamond was first released). It seems HTC went with sexy sleekness over long-life battery. In my opinion, they made the right choice!
The HTC 1340mah battery makes it 3mm thicker, but its still looks good.
here are some pics...

I would not trust these batteries you see on ebay from HK. I got one for my old magican and it does not last as long and drains fast when its below ~40%.
Thanks for clearing things up!
cant believe they charge best part of £55 for that, should be more like £20!!
anyone know where i can buy just the back cover mine kinda the baby got his hands on it and it broke in half i need the back battery cover only if anyone can help i looked everywere and cant seem to find just that i have the 1340mah battery just need the cover
Well i just order mine and i love it. Its just 3mm thicker you will not notice the zie increase and the rubbery feel is great. Also the juice will last longer.

Unfortunately .... they don't
just ordered from pda accesories £27 inc
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B001D842OS/ref=dp_olp_2
came in 2 days
I found some pictures of the BP E270.
The official HTC extended battery is well worth the money.
IMHO, it looks MUCH better thickness-wise (I find the Diamond too thin and it hurts my palm during extended use).
It DEFINITELY feels better with the included rubberized matte battery cover.
Mind you, I'm coming from a Touch Pro (a car drove over it -- sniff) and I loved it years beyond this Diamond I replaced it with.

1350mAh Battery for Diamond CDMA with T-Mobile Compact IV

Who know that Battery for Diamond CDMA can fit to T-Mobile Compact IV?
I want to buy Diamond CDMA Battery but not sure it can fit to T-Mobile Compact IV.
It more capacity 1350mAh with original back cover.
Thanks
DAMMNNNN!
I just spent £11.99 on a 1800 batt with a bigger 'diamond' casing....if i knew i could get a 1350 batt the same size as the original I would have waited!! oh well! got any pics? wud be interested to see if this is true!!
Cheers!
I don't think the 1350 mAh battery can fit with the original cover on the GSM Diamond. If this is the case, HTC wouldn't have to sell the 1340 mAh battery with a slightly thicker cover.

[BATT] [27-03-2009] 1800 mAh MDA Compact IV with pictures - not official one

All,
I managed to source a non-T-Mobile extended battery and cover for my Compact IV. I believe the original costs in the region of £40-£60 (for a 1340 mAh).
I've just purchased at 1800 mAh one for about £12 GBP ($18 USD).
Up until now, I personally was finding it difficult to find a 'replica' extended battery for the Compact IV (different cover to the HTC Diamond of course).
Anyway I thought I'd post some pictures up if people wanted to see.
I won't post a link to where I got it because I haven't tested the performance of it (just received it 30 mins ago!).
My usage is pretty heavy where the original 900 mAh would barely last me 8 hours on a good day.
I will post back results later if anyone is interested.
[UPDATE 27-03-2009]
Well I've been using the battery for a few days and of course it is as expected far better than the original. I haven't tested it with any perfomance software tools, just real life usage.
Full charged at 8am, the battery would easily last me 48 hours. Over this period I had a data connection always on (Exchange and personal IMAP). Just for testing purposes, I had the GPS (Tomtom) running for an hour, browsed the internet for a total of about an hour, plus the general calls and SMSs made/received.
Just one little thing: I had to remove the sticker around the battery because the cover simply would not close, I instead used sticky labels to cover it and now it fits like a glove! I personally think the whole unit feels better in the palm of hand with the extra thickness.
Overall, so far, I am impressed with this battery.
cool, i'm interested to hear your feedback once you use it for a while. thanks for posting the pictures.
Sh500,
Please give us a link to where you bought the battery, I'm really need one!

I'm a bit concern about removing this sticker around the battery, would this effect the battery in anyway? Did the seller not test to see if the cover closes with this battery?

Sent D8LOM a private message.
This is the best cover design which i have seen
I also bought this same battery from the same supplier on e**y, and first day use already a vast improvement on the pathetic original. Fully charged from new this morning, 1 hour mp3 listening, plenty of emails, web-surfing, phone calls, etc and battery power has dropped by 3 bars, normally its virtually dead by now with the standard battery. I would consider myself a heavy user. The battery cover feels a bit plasticy (but seems strong enough) and as was said in the opening post you do need to peel the stickers off the battery to make the cover fit the phone (voiding any warranty for the battery) but for the price I think this is a winner. The extra-thick case feels a bit cumbersome at first but quickly got used to it. Overall so far so good and this is going to be used a lot when I am unsure when I can next get to a charger.
Hi,
Any updates on batery usage?
Can one of you measure the adittional size with new battery in mm or whole phone thicknes?
I would like to buy the same battery, but I have a dillema. I bought HTC original car phone holder, CU S170 witch looks like this: http://www.mobilesupplies.nl/holder-touch-diamond-s170-with-charger-pi-8691.html
I wonder, if phone with this 1800 mAH battery will fit to the holder
Also is there big diference between this 3rd party 1800mAH battery and HTC extendet 1340 mAH.

The thickness is a maximum of 16mm (tried to measure it with a ruler so not the most accurate!)
Yep I'm in the same situation with the car holder, I've got the same holder as you but one that mounts on the car vent. With the extended battery, your device will not fit the holder as there is no additional clearance on the holder.
I think it will be a while until someone manufactures a holder with additional clearance (perhaps a spring loaded back bit) to allow for such upgrades.
Ive been searching for another holder but the only ones that seem to do the job would be the universal 'gripper' ones - these are very ugly in my opinion but currently I don't have much choice! May submit a new post in the section.
I've been using my device for almost a week now and the battery life is consistently better than the original one. Even if I seriously abuse it running different things it would still last be close to 24 hours.
I can't comment on the 1340 mAh.
THIS CAR HOLDER MAY FIT:
http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/Holder/HTC+Touch Diamond-Brodit-Holder.asp
It seems like it has the extra clearance and in the description it states "this kit should accommodate all battery sizes". I wonder if any with a Brodit holder can confirm this? But looking at the pictures there seems like plenty of clearance.
Quite expensive though!

Thanks for reply,
I almost decided to by the original HTC extended battery, becouse of the thicknes, as I read it last about 50% more than original, so that should be bearible it's about two days Not compromizing looks of the phone that much!
Now there is still a issue with the car phone holder, becouse I realy like the holder I got, you can use it in horizontal posittion as a vertical. And I like the build and aesthetic look of it.
There is a small bumps on it, to fit the phone better, maybe if I remove them I can fit my phone with HTC extendet battery in it. Or maybe it would fit anyways without remowing them (picture attached)
As I read, the phone with original battery 900 mAH is 11.85 mm thick, and with extendet 1340 mAH battery is 14.40 mm thick.
So would be nice, if someone could post feedback with original HTC car phone holder, and HTC extendet battery. DOES IT FIT OR NOT

Like i said, I have the same mount as you and there doesn't seem like extra clearance behind. I would be surprised if the 1340 battery would fit even with the extra bit taken off, you need about 3mm extra. Plus you dont want it too tight so as it would scrape against the edges everytime you took the phone in and out of the holder. But see if anyone else replies I guess.
I know Brodit do two specific holders for the Diamond, one for the 900mAh and another for the 1340 mAh.

It's difficult to judge the thickness of that pouch just from the picture. I still have my mate's Touch Pro with me and it is about 2-3 mm thicker than my MDA C4.
Nobe question: I'm assuming that's with the 1800 mAh battery on your phone? lol!
