[BATT] [27-03-2009] 1800 mAh MDA Compact IV with pictures - not official one - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Accessories

All,
I managed to source a non-T-Mobile extended battery and cover for my Compact IV. I believe the original costs in the region of £40-£60 (for a 1340 mAh).
I've just purchased at 1800 mAh one for about £12 GBP ($18 USD).
Up until now, I personally was finding it difficult to find a 'replica' extended battery for the Compact IV (different cover to the HTC Diamond of course).
Anyway I thought I'd post some pictures up if people wanted to see.
I won't post a link to where I got it because I haven't tested the performance of it (just received it 30 mins ago!).
My usage is pretty heavy where the original 900 mAh would barely last me 8 hours on a good day.
I will post back results later if anyone is interested.
[UPDATE 27-03-2009]
Well I've been using the battery for a few days and of course it is as expected far better than the original. I haven't tested it with any perfomance software tools, just real life usage.
Full charged at 8am, the battery would easily last me 48 hours. Over this period I had a data connection always on (Exchange and personal IMAP). Just for testing purposes, I had the GPS (Tomtom) running for an hour, browsed the internet for a total of about an hour, plus the general calls and SMSs made/received.
Just one little thing: I had to remove the sticker around the battery because the cover simply would not close, I instead used sticky labels to cover it and now it fits like a glove! I personally think the whole unit feels better in the palm of hand with the extra thickness.
Overall, so far, I am impressed with this battery.

cool, i'm interested to hear your feedback once you use it for a while. thanks for posting the pictures.

Sh500,
Please give us a link to where you bought the battery, I'm really need one!

I'm a bit concern about removing this sticker around the battery, would this effect the battery in anyway? Did the seller not test to see if the cover closes with this battery?

If you can't remember, I'v attached a simillar pouch from Google image.

Sent D8LOM a private message.

This is the best cover design which i have seen

I also bought this same battery from the same supplier on e**y, and first day use already a vast improvement on the pathetic original. Fully charged from new this morning, 1 hour mp3 listening, plenty of emails, web-surfing, phone calls, etc and battery power has dropped by 3 bars, normally its virtually dead by now with the standard battery. I would consider myself a heavy user. The battery cover feels a bit plasticy (but seems strong enough) and as was said in the opening post you do need to peel the stickers off the battery to make the cover fit the phone (voiding any warranty for the battery) but for the price I think this is a winner. The extra-thick case feels a bit cumbersome at first but quickly got used to it. Overall so far so good and this is going to be used a lot when I am unsure when I can next get to a charger.

Hi,
Any updates on batery usage?
Can one of you measure the adittional size with new battery in mm or whole phone thicknes?
I would like to buy the same battery, but I have a dillema. I bought HTC original car phone holder, CU S170 witch looks like this: http://www.mobilesupplies.nl/holder-touch-diamond-s170-with-charger-pi-8691.html
I wonder, if phone with this 1800 mAH battery will fit to the holder
Also is there big diference between this 3rd party 1800mAH battery and HTC extendet 1340 mAH.

The thickness is a maximum of 16mm (tried to measure it with a ruler so not the most accurate!)
Yep I'm in the same situation with the car holder, I've got the same holder as you but one that mounts on the car vent. With the extended battery, your device will not fit the holder as there is no additional clearance on the holder.
I think it will be a while until someone manufactures a holder with additional clearance (perhaps a spring loaded back bit) to allow for such upgrades.
Ive been searching for another holder but the only ones that seem to do the job would be the universal 'gripper' ones - these are very ugly in my opinion but currently I don't have much choice! May submit a new post in the section.
I've been using my device for almost a week now and the battery life is consistently better than the original one. Even if I seriously abuse it running different things it would still last be close to 24 hours.
I can't comment on the 1340 mAh.
THIS CAR HOLDER MAY FIT:
http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/Holder/HTC+Touch Diamond-Brodit-Holder.asp
It seems like it has the extra clearance and in the description it states "this kit should accommodate all battery sizes". I wonder if any with a Brodit holder can confirm this? But looking at the pictures there seems like plenty of clearance.
Quite expensive though!

Thanks for reply,
I almost decided to by the original HTC extended battery, becouse of the thicknes, as I read it last about 50% more than original, so that should be bearible it's about two days Not compromizing looks of the phone that much!
Now there is still a issue with the car phone holder, becouse I realy like the holder I got, you can use it in horizontal posittion as a vertical. And I like the build and aesthetic look of it.
There is a small bumps on it, to fit the phone better, maybe if I remove them I can fit my phone with HTC extendet battery in it. Or maybe it would fit anyways without remowing them (picture attached)
As I read, the phone with original battery 900 mAH is 11.85 mm thick, and with extendet 1340 mAH battery is 14.40 mm thick.
So would be nice, if someone could post feedback with original HTC car phone holder, and HTC extendet battery. DOES IT FIT OR NOT

Like i said, I have the same mount as you and there doesn't seem like extra clearance behind. I would be surprised if the 1340 battery would fit even with the extra bit taken off, you need about 3mm extra. Plus you dont want it too tight so as it would scrape against the edges everytime you took the phone in and out of the holder. But see if anyone else replies I guess.
I know Brodit do two specific holders for the Diamond, one for the 900mAh and another for the 1340 mAh.

I'd like to know this answer as well. I would assume the extended battery would make the device look as the size of the TouchPro.

It's difficult to judge the thickness of that pouch just from the picture. I still have my mate's Touch Pro with me and it is about 2-3 mm thicker than my MDA C4.

Nobe question: I'm assuming that's with the 1800 mAh battery on your phone? lol!

The eBay seller's link you provided on post 4 has gone away (finished selling) but I've found another similar battery. Can you please confirm if that's exactly the same or if it's the same seller?

1350mAh Battery Extension = Thicker phone or what?

Hi!
I just can't seem to get a real answer.
Iwant a higher capacity battery *without*making my phone thicker/larger. What battery can I get or do all the higher capacity batteries make it thicker?
Thanks!
Thicker!
My guess is that if HTC could have fitted a higher capacity battery, without making the device any bigger, they would have done so.
Battery life issues have been discussed since day 1 (May last year, when the Diamond was first released). It seems HTC went with sexy sleekness over long-life battery. In my opinion, they made the right choice!
The HTC 1340mah battery makes it 3mm thicker, but its still looks good.

I would not trust these batteries you see on ebay from HK. I got one for my old magican and it does not last as long and drains fast when its below ~40%.
Thanks for clearing things up!
cant believe they charge best part of £55 for that, should be more like £20!!
anyone know where i can buy just the back cover mine kinda the baby got his hands on it and it broke in half i need the back battery cover only if anyone can help i looked everywere and cant seem to find just that i have the 1340mah battery just need the cover
Well i just order mine and i love it. Its just 3mm thicker you will not notice the zie increase and the rubbery feel is great. Also the juice will last longer.
I received mine for my mda IV last monday and after a week of use, it was worth every penny. It took a day or 2 to get use to the 3mm addition but i now get 2-3 days use out of my phone between charges were before i barley got 1. Highly advise everyone with battery issues to get one!!!
Look here. Just €26,77 (Do'nt know if they deliver outside The Netherlands)

Unfortunately .... they don't

came in 2 days
I found some pictures of the BP E270.
The official HTC extended battery is well worth the money.
IMHO, it looks MUCH better thickness-wise (I find the Diamond too thin and it hurts my palm during extended use).
It DEFINITELY feels better with the included rubberized matte battery cover.
Mind you, I'm coming from a Touch Pro (a car drove over it -- sniff) and I loved it years beyond this Diamond I replaced it with.

I concur - two of these Mugen 1.3Ah batteries, properly charge cycled from the start and should have no problems with power. Previous experience with Mugen in other evices has been consistently excellent compared to stock batteries.
Anyone know ? that toshiba tg01 battery compatible with Battery for Palm Treo 680 750 750v etc?? It's look very same.
you can search in google or ebay . I'm new user - can't post picture or URL .

Finally I got the Mugen XL 2600 mah one, after a long waiting (25 days past till the battery arrived in Romania from Hong Kong, NOT MUGEN FAULT). My phone now it's a little bit bubbled, but it's... something for something......

Not bad! More or less the same thickness than mi former XDA FLAME
And the stylus holder is a positive point ( Imiss it a lot!!!)
I'm happy with my new 2 Mugen 1300mAh + 1 Toshiba 1000 mAh, but the main advantage of having all the capacity together in a single battery comes from the silly Toshiba's policy of leaving us without USB/WIFI/Camera when battery is under 20%

Not so heavie, it's good to feel in hands, now I can hold and feel the phone. The battery thicknes it's like 2 default 1000 mAh tosh battery + 2 mm
Look at the air under that battery cover, can you imagine, if they used Lithium Polymer instead, and filled all that space for the purpose of being a battery how high the capacity could be

1300 Mugen seems to put pressure on the screen???
I got the replacement battery from Mugen that kinda fits the current back of the phone. But it seems to PUT undo pressure on the screen from behind that I fear over time will damage the screen (rainbow effect). It is thicker than the old battery and I noticed a rainbow effect right over where the battery is located so I took it out right away.
Reading other forums on the rainbow effect, I think the back cover needs to be slightly larger to accommodate even the 1300 mugen or I think it will damage the screen.
Prior to inserting the battery I never had any rainbow swipe effect and since removing it I have not had any. I was very disappointed about this and would love to have the extra power.

I have two 1300mAh Mugen since December, and it's all OK. It's true that this battery is a bit higher than de original, but this extra pressure goes to the thin plastic cover, not to the screen. The only problem is that closing the corver (always not easy in this device) becomes even more difficult.
Best regards

Ditto.
Mine certainly doesn't put any pressure on the screen.

Seidio Extended Battery

Hi.. this is for sale on Ebay. What you think, worth to buy?
Its a Seidio 1600 ma battery that fits in without new back cover... £28...
###Edit### I checked Seidio's website and theres no battery for Desire... so this must be for Nexus One. Just wonder they really are 100% compatible? ##
T-mobile promised to send me a new one, but they are out of stock so they refunded my accounr with £20 to buy one on my own. Not sure if this one is good/safe etc...(?)
Thanks

Seems good 'on paper'. But I never understood why a phone's manufacturer wouldn't supply a device with the highest capacity possible (with the same size) unless it had 'adverse' effects on something, no matter how small.

Keep cost down, like not providing a case or docking station.
Just wonder how much more would the +200 mah do. Seidio seems to be a known brand though - also if it is for Nexus - is it really the same battery?
It does look as though the battery for the Desire is the same as for the Nexus One. Both seem to quote part number BA S410 tor the standard battery.
Tested it - I tried the Seidio Nexus One in the Desire and it works perfectly.
So whats the battery life like then? Is a 14% increase going to be noticed?
What would be great is two batteries in parallel covered by a skin with no back plate!

Wow seems like the 3200 has amazing battery life but everyone is complaining about the back cover.
Im sure this would work fine in the desire - just need a skin which will cover it without the backplate on at all but with lens cover and we are all sorted!
you know what?? i need clarity on extended life battery so bear with me. Does this go ontop of normal battery hence doubling life. or is it just a bigger capacity replacement battery so longer battery.
Sorry i just needed a bit of clarity
it has the same width/height as standard battery (fits in slot) but double the thickness almost like to stacked on top of each other in parellel. That means the original backing plate wont fit on anymore so they supply a replacement.

Extended Battery Help

We need to find out if anyone has a battery that is bigger than 1500 mah. It looks like the Optimus 2x uses the same battery so I would hope someone has a 1650 or 1800 mah out there. Let me know if a source is found. It would be nice to have an external wall charger as well.

Or maybe a dock with spare battery charger on the back to at least hold a stock battery to charge
Check on Ebay every few days. I haven't seen one yet but they make it for most phones. The batteries are thicker than the standard ones and it also comes with a different rear cover to accept the thicker battery. It is usually from China and around $15 or so.

Sometimes there are extended batteries made that are the same exact size as the stock one but have a larger capacity. For example, I bought a Seidio extended 1750mAh battery for my Droid X which was the same size as the original battery but had about 250 more mAh to it...it gave me a couple more hours on one charge. Hopefully something similar is made for the G2X!
Maybe a bunch of us should just write to seidio and ask them to start on developing one for us...

That's the nice thing about the Seidio ones. They are a legit company, and they can usually squeeze an extra 150-400 mAh out of the standard size battery. They aren't too terribly expensive, either. I am thinking for now, though, I may have to give one of those ebay ones with the separate battery charger a try....I have had good luck with ebay laptopt batteries, so....it might be worth the $20 for it.
Also, I will start spamming Seidio's twitter. Lol.

Seidio slim extended batteries are usually way lower than what they state. Just run a quick search on here...bottom line, you may as well use the stock battery in most cases.

Actually, they just re-label their inferior batteries with bigger mAh numbers and make a big profit for their efforts.
No company has ever made a legitimate higher capacity OEM size battery ever.
I've spend hundreds of dollars on batteries just to rip them apart, document my findings and test.

This is what I have always suspected. Can you give a link to a writeup of your findings?

Agreed. Seidio does make some legit extended batteries, like the 2500 and 3500 mAh one's they put out for the EVO and Droid X, etc... but the ones that are the same size as the stock battery don't hold any extra juice, they take advantage of the loop hole in the rules concerning how companies can label batteries.
Batteries have a range of mAh that they hold. Say the battery in our device has a range of 1300 to 1700 mAh, most companies will use the average and label the battery at 1500 mAh. Seidio on the other hand will label theirs on the high end of the range at 1700 mAh, which is perfectly within their right to do, but is rather deceiving to the consumer.

There is no range. All the OEM batteries I've tested were within 3% of their tagged rating.
Regarding Seidio, there is no explanation as to why their "same size & higher capacity" batteries consistently deliver less power than an OEM battery.
But don't let me stop anyone from buying their snake oil.
Regarding Mugen, that first link shows a disassembled 3000mAh battery that contained 2 1200mAh cells. I call it fraud, plain and simple. They all do it, I've proved it.
i just ended up getting this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N63AC6 . i have a body glove case and they're a pain to snap off everytime i want to replace my battery while at work. for me, this is much easier.
now if they made a good extended battery with a custom back cover like i had on my g1, i'd get it.

You ever tested any of the batteries from htc express? Those seem to work well.
Currently I am using Veho 5Ah external battery while I am waiting for 2 more batteries.
With regular microUSB cable, it works fine.

$35 isn't bad at all.

Seems kind of shady (these batteries are running for $5-10 a piece) but here's what I found, 1600mah, haha:

Definitely stay away from the 1600mah. I saw those and I emailed one of the buyers.. and asked him for his input on the battery b4 I made a purchase. He said "stay away, they are junk and only hold a charge for a couple of hours. save your money."

1600/1800mah Ebay Batteries

Hi everyone,
I'm a happy owner of a unbranded HTC Sensation (1.34 Rom).
I'm reading every day the different post on the HTC Sensation XDA forum... thanks to the wonderful community.
I'll like to give my 5-cents input.
I've ordered different things from ebay from this phone.
A few usb cables, covers, screen protectors and batteries
I ordered 3x 1800mah batteries and 1x 1600mah battery from diff. sellers (Chinese) on ebay.
I tried them all the last couple of weeks, but wasn't satisfied by them.
So, I decided to take of the stickers (on the 1600 and 1800mah)
I found, to my surprise, that the 1600mah battery is only a 1100mah (see picture).
I've also ripped of the sticker of the 1800mah battery, but there was no printing at all (I suspect same capacity)..
I've now ordered the e-cell 2430mah battery and will test it when it arrives..
If the performance is as low as the others I try to take of the sticker to see what the real capacity is!
I hope other people can be helped by this.
Cheers,
Davy
I bough a 1500 evo battery for my incredible. The guy had 99.8 feedback. He is a seller from new York. Not a disappointment so far. After 15 hours with heavy use I could be at 50/40% . So I'm happy with the purchase.
However I did buy 1800 battery from China and it was worse then my stock 1300 battery. Now that I found this post it make sense now. I will try to take that sticker off and update

thank you for doing this. How can you tell from the picture that it is 1100? Is that on the scratched out part?
Hello,
Sorry for the bad picture.
If you look closely on the battery (left buttom side), you'll see 0mah
and 110 on the sticker...
That makes 1100mah..sorry can't make any better pictures as the inkt is almost all onto the sticker....
Cheers,
Davy

Thank you. Mine is exactly the same as your 1800 one. Same issue, only about 1100 real charge.
Interested to see what the 2430mah is all about. Does it come with a replacement back cover? I got the Chichitec 1900 and I believe it's totally legit. the battery lasts about 25 hours of normal use for me. I can't really ask for anything else really.
