PointUI - HTC Vox

Hello, I thinks many of you knows PointUI on WM PPC ... Now it runs also on WM Smartphone
I tested it on my E650 and it fast and smooth !!!
The only problem I got is, when I press the hang up key ( the red one ), it close ...
If somebody have an idea on how to disable this key I'll test it
www.pointui.com

is it really necessary to use it?

It`s some time that somebody post this thing here .. well it`s nice handy as well but you find few bugs (key lock, your issue etc, mostly because its made for PPC i think ) and slow up the system coz its aplication-homescreen thing .. best homescreen i ever had is slide panel in gonzos WM 6.1 rom ..

I used PointUI at BETA, 1.0 all the way to 1.51a and I must say while it has progressed, the Smartphone/Standard release has been overlooked. It causes massive battery drain on HTC S710 with anything over version 1.02b. I use it now and again when I feel like getting a change to the UI but the battery draining issue really needs to be resolved.
To answer your question, you can't really disable your Call End key, you should be able to remap it with something like AE Button Plus. When I do use Point UI, I set the setting to Show Home after a call has ended and I have become used to using the back key instead of the End Call key to switch. I also bound my side key to Terminate Current application, so the End Call key for me really only ends calls when I am done on the phone.

[Help]looking for a software to lock device

I tested wm5.0 rom on my xda-2 and but have degraded it to WM2003SE because it was too slow in my device. I like the simple but nice "Today Screen Plugin" on wm5.0 to lock and unlocked device. I've looked for this kind of software to lock my device for a long time. But no one can be as good as the one in wm5.0. So does somebody can draw it out from wm5.0 rom or can advice me a software with similar function worked in WM2003SE platform?
[/img]
First, I don't have the locking software you are looking for.
But, why do you want to 'lock' it? As a matter of fact, I'm using WM5 and one of the very first thing I deemed useless if the 'lock' features. That is, whenever, I want to 'lock' the device, I just switch it off to 'ready' mode and switch it on whenever necessary.
BTW, there are a few security software that is able to 'lock' your device with a password, do those software fit your bill?
Also, see if this helps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38364&highlight=
To avoid to call out by careless touch the dialpad in my bag, I wish to find a simple but useful software to lock the screen and key. And easy to unlock the device without input password. So I feel that today plugin in wm5.0 satisfy my need.
Lock the buttons
if u mean that u want something to prevent the calls which can be done by pressing the keys acceidently .. i will tell u how without a software ...
prss on start then setting then system then mark on ( Lock All buttons except Power button ) ... then ok .. this is going to lock all the buttons but not the power button ....
peace outttttttttt

Two little issues with locking and backlight

Hi Guys,
There are a couple of things I've not been able to get working in the way I'm used to on my Artemis, just wondered if anyone can help....
1) The require password when device is not used for x minutes, when set to 0 minutes on my Artemis, would only ask me for the password if it was coming out of standby... I'm trying to get the Polaris to behave in the same way. The gotcha with this is that having edited the settings on the Artemis, it doesn't behave like this anymore
What's actually happening is that when set at 0 minutes the device locks right away. I've now set it to 1 hour but now when coming out of standby I don't have to put the password in unless I leave it for an hour... Which is what it sounds like it should do, but not what I want, or what it WAS doing!
2) My backlight doesn't come on until I have fully unlocked the device... So I can't see the keypad or unlock button in daylight. My Artemis doesn't do this, the backlight comes straight on.
Any ideas are welcome
Thanks
LP
Wouldn't mind knowing about a reg tweak for the backlight/lock issue myself...
Screenlock? and backgrond light
I'v managed to get a screenlock function to work really nice. The Polaris is now always locked on start, exept for Answer/Reject soft and hardware buttons, plus that I can shut down the ringing with the volume button. Really nice.
The program that does it is Autolock. You find it att http://www.intelliott.com
The backlight problem was solved via a register hack found on this site.
At
\HKCU\ControlPanle\Backlight\LockLevel
Rename the folder to LockLevelX.
Does work even if the handset is soft resetted.
Thanks peta§,
That reg hack works pretty well
Any chance of a little more detail on the registry tweak. The backlight issue is really starting to annoy me.
Thanks
I followed the instruction in this link. It was quite easy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351709
peta§,do u know any registry tweak in order to disable key lock permanently?
Cheers Peta,
Worked a treat however, I don't understand why this was not done at the manufacturing stage unless it was purely an oversight.
Thanks
I agree MusicArtist, it should be activated in WM6 from the start. It's very interesting what can happen when you take your phone out of the pocket when a reminder calls for your attention, or a SMS or call is incoming and you by mistake presses some functions on the activated screen.
dene3erw, disabling key lock permanently? I don't follow. Do you mean the Autolock?
If so, ýou can find an icon in the Program folder, just to tap on it. It enables/disables the function.

polaris buttons

hi guys...
is there by chance a way to change the behavior of the first two buttons?
it's kinda annoying that tomtom or IExplorer would start anytime i accidently touch or even strike one of the big buttons.
if there was only a way to set a delay into that response bahavior, something like holding that button to trigger the application ...
anybody?!?
thanx , bear
btw: running WM 6.1 by bepe, Build 0.65 - WWE
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Buttons. In there you can map what the hardware buttons do. You can have them start other applications or you can map them to do nothing.
that bit i knew
ok my mistake , did not put enough stress on the part
where i was asking for a kind of delay or something like that.
artemis had something like
push button A short : do X,
push button A long : vibrate and do Y
that i'like to have in my cruise...!
thx
OK, nevermind
ifound something on the net.
Hbutton does all the required things,
just install and go
variable delay times, multiple button assignement possible,
nice tool -
case closed !

i637 Jack - How to remove Vlingo from silent key, tweak it on wm6.5

Instead of Vlingo, when tapping the Silent Key I want to start Voice Notes straight to "Record" function (like Dictaphone). Does anyone know a tweak?
(I already upgraded to WM6.5 and changed the media web button to skyfire, and the att gps to garmin)
When using Total Commander and trying to remove all of the ATT crapware/demo ware, I was only able to remove from the Start Menu or from Program Files, but not from the Windows main directory. It appears that deleting files like JewelQuestII.exe from the Windows main directory is locked (I get a message 'cannot delete 1 file(s)') Does anyone know how to unlock that? How can I uninstalling the rest of the AT&T clutter, including successfully removing the start-up/shut-down AT&T 3g animation?
Also, on my previous HTC Tilt there was a button on the side, which when I tapped it the display turns off and the device goes to 'sleep' stand-by mode (keys, screen don't respond, until there is phone call to wake up the device). On the i637 the button on the side doesn't do that - when I tap it it goes to shut down and such shortcut menu. Does anyone know how to tweak it to behave like the Tilt? (put it to sleep).

Do you think that the reason why you have to hold on the power button longer in order to start-up the device (after upgrading to WM6.5) is because somehow there are two sets of instructions for the phone to go by? [one is the old/stock 6.1 set of instructions, and one is the new 6.5 set)? If yes, then is there a way to completely remove the 6.1 (initial/stock stuff)? But yet, my HTC Tilt also has to be held down when booting up, and that was like that out of the box. Don't know if ATT did the upgrading on the Tilt to 6.1 though. But I do know that the Tilt that I have was ATT upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 just don't know how they did it. Just mentioning the Tilt for comparison purposes. I need support only on i637.
Anyone knows any good (free) Pocket Dictionary for Smart Phone (non-touch screen)?
I just noticed this, since it is the first time that I actually went To MS Office, (and I went to it for the 1st time, after WM6.5 upgrade, so no i637 6.1 experience to compare). The MS Office WORD & Excel don't have any way to start a 'NEW' word or excel sheet. It just goes into browsing mode like searching for files. So I immediately went to the HTC Tilt and the Office to compare, and sure enough- for Tilt there IS a choice to start 'NEW' Word and Excel. In i637 the only 'NEW' choice is to start a 'New One NOTE' but not for Word or Excel. Any tweak, suggestions, comments?
Can someone post a working .cab for Smart Phone (non-touchscreen), turning the Jack i637 into a hot spot functionality, like the IPhone (announced as MyWi) ?
Did anyone figure out a tweak for the battery percentage? (% is not showing).
I have to admit that i637, though a non-touchscreen device, has so far many advantages over the Tilt. For one thing, I find it a lot faster and more convenient in the hand/pocket.

Taskbar customization and volume manager

I finally customized my mega the way I wanted it to be when I initially bought it. I'm also running a 6.5.5 rom. Unfortunately I still have some issues with it and I was wondering if someone knew anything about them. First of them is if it would be possible to remove the start soft key in the bottom left corner of the screen. That would be nice since the mega already has a hardware start key and the one on the screen becomes redundant. It would be nice if we would just have two soft keys in the bottom corners
Also, I looked for a solution for the ugly volume manager in these last builds but couldn't really find one. I tried other volume managers like setvolume but that one is buggy even with answering phone calls. I find that unacceptable because most of all, it's a phone. So maybe if we could restore the default one or use another one without so many bugs that would be great. I saw somewhere that a solution was already available but for vga phones. Maybe that could be ported to qvga
I am with you on this. Would love to see these fixes.
I need theses fixes too!!! WM 6.5.5 has bad interface...
Why does the volume control must be so fat and ugly??
The most important thing is volume control in the youtube app sucks!
I wish someone can fix the volume control to use back the original HTC one.
Erm ok, the problem is even when the default HTC Volume control is implemented in the ROM, for some reason WM 6.5.5 overwrites that. I tried a few times. I think that sucks cos I'm a student , and my phone needs to be on silent. But the new volume control can be activated on the lockscreen so I'm afraid it would turn silent off. Any suggestions for this?

There's a nice app called SetVolume that does the trick quite nicely. Also, there's a cab that can remove the start button. I lost the cab but there's a registry tweak that does the job. You can search for it.
