Which, in general, is the best ROM out at the moment? i.e. Most stable, best applications, most useful tweaks etc?
Lookin for a consensus to decide which ROM for me to go with.

Noone is going to be able to answer that question for you. It is a personal opinion and works for one may not work for the other. The only advice that can be given to you is to read the first few posts to see if it appeals to you. Then look to see what kind of issues that users are reporting and see if they will pertain to you. Once this is done, and you still are interested in the rom, then flash it. If you dont like it, flash another one. This is the best advice that can be given.

I've been using Dutty's for the past few months, but it seems like ROMeOS is the best these days...

Seriously though, Best rom? Good question. Many are geared towards different ways of using the device. Best advice is to READ descriptions and threads like the rest of us and do your own research.

Agreed - when I got my TyTN II I also had the same question.
Well the answer is simple - LOTS OF RESEARCH!!!
there is not the best one in general, but one that fits your needs.
So please read description of each ROM

Like the others said - and it of course depends on your preferences (i.e. type of apps, performance, appearance, etc.)
A good rule of thumb (ALL NOOBS TAKE THIS HINT!!) would be to look at the postings for recent ROMS and see how many responses there are to the thread. It could be a red herring if there have been a few bugs, but generally it indicates a popular ROM and from reading (yes read the initial posts please!) you can quickly determine if this might be a ROM for you. The responses from users will highlight any issues that may be specific to the software you'd like to run.
Maybe the mods can close this now - or maybe create a "Which ROM should you flash - read this first" Sticky that paraphrases this to prevent this weekly question.
if you are looking for a multimedia ROM (stable) i suggest Dutty's April 29 ROM
if you are looking for fast and fancy ROM i suggest ROMEOS 3.5

First Hard SPL your phone find a rom offering. Read what others say about it, then if it sounds like something you might like, Flash it. Then try another and another and keep going until you can answer that question for yourself. READ! for your self and learn. The bottom line is the best rom is a myth! it only can be the best if you say it is so. What I believe to be the Best you might Flash and think it sucks. Do some work on your own and learn! Of course, let me first pay my respects to the devs and their much appriciated efforts.
I was just doing my daily browse of the dream and sapphire forums and a few things occured to me that i wanted to share in case they warranted some real consideration by others.
Cross-device-roms
It seems that more and more lately, ROMs posted in the Dream forum would be just as appropriate in the Sapphire forum because they work on both platforms. I don't expect the mods want to double-post, then track both, but it doesn't seem efficient, nor a great idea to leave it to the users to create the new topics and link over. To help differenciate those ROMs and make searching easier, perhaps the subject line could say something like [dream/sapphire]?
Google/HTC-base
Another issue I've come across as a result of NEEDING full exchange support and wanting good integration (iow, not using market apps to get it), I've come to realize that HTC ROMs provide this and AOSP/Google ROMs don't. Now that I get this, I'm surprised to find that ROM subject lines don't declare which type of base was used (perhaps it's assumed/implied), but seeing [Google-base] or [HTC-base] (or something like that) would be incredibly helpful for folks like me.
User-rating-of-builds
Lastly, instead of wading through pages of posts to find out what others think of any given ROM, I'd love to see some sort of rating system and polls would be a good way to do this, but then I consider the versioning/release complication involved and wonder if that would be a bad idea implemented so simply, or if the poll could be reset with each release. This way it would be easy at a glance to see how happy/pleased/satisfied the users of a ROM are.
I'm sure many people can think of why any of these suggestions might NOT be a good idea, but there's no point building up this thread airing those concerns. If you're a dev/modder and you agree, just do what you think is best. If you're a user and you agree, see the attached poll and use it. Ideally, this post will die if nobody agrees and if they do, change will happen.
If you vote and that's not enough to bump the thread, maybe you should post with something simple like 'voted' to keep it alive.

I'm looking to get away from Sense. What is your favorite AOSP/AOKP Rom.
I'm looking for something that's the most stable, good battery life, and
ongoing support. If you can lead me in the right direction I'd love you.
"Best ROM" threads are distasteful, and frowned upon here.
Everyone uses their phone differently, and has different tastes. What works for others, might not for you. Just pick a couple that look like they meet your needs and try them. Its pretty easy to figure out who likes what by reading various existing threads.

That's the only way to find which ROM is "best" mate, gotta get down and dirty and see what YOU think is the best.
Because these threads don't really help much we just closing them, as in this one.

Best rom threads are not allowed here. Please take the time to search the Development forums. Check the OPs of the threads you see there and decide for yourself which rom suits you. What is the best rom is a purely subjective matter and no one can really give you that information. Here on xda-developers.com, we want to discourage needless competition. Please help us do that by not creating anymore threads like this.

Okay, deferring to the wisdom of the elders on this question. I've been all over the place with ROMs, TW and AOSP, but I'm heading to college in a few weeks and I'm looking to "settle down" with a ROM and ride it out until my upgrade in November. Is there a clear winner out there right now in terms of stability/battery life that still has some cool features? I'm very minimalistic and I don't need to be able to customize every single facet of the UI, but rooted stock is a bit too dull for me! I'm on CleanRom 8.2 atm and it's good but not great, I'm really looking for the ultimate daily driver ROM and kernel, please advise a lowly serf such as myself.
I don't believe the rules of XDA allow a "what is the best ROM" thread, so you may not get a simple answer (and to be honest, people have different priorities in what they want or need from a ROM, so what may be best for them may not be best for you).
That said, perhaps the best approach would be to look through the Android Development and Original Android Development topics and look at both the early posts (the OP, plus a page or two after), and the last page or two to get an sense of the install, the features, and the level of support you might get with each ROM. You will also be able to eliminate ROM's that are no longer supported (eg, I believe Scott is no longer supporting CR, so even though it was/is a great ROM, perhaps not the best to consider).
Also google the ROMs to see if there are any YouTubes showing the install and use of the ROM. There are many good reviews of ROMs and seeing them in action is a big help.
Last, a number of ROMs are being discussed on Google+ so you may want to check out that resource too.
And, it may also be a good idea to actually try the ROMs on your phone. ROMs can act differently on your phone than they might on mine.

My recommendation is read all the rom threads as much a you can and experiment by trying them out. "Best of" rom threads are frowned upon because it generally discourages people to read and learn. I am going to close this and trust you will be able to find what you are looking for with some diligence and have fun trying. Thats what makes this site great!:good:
