No audio after period of no GSM signal? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I am running a ROM based on the HTC Official Wm6.1 (5.2.19212, WWE 3.29.707.0). I noticed this behaviour last week but put it down to a random glitch, however today in the same scenario I have hit the same issue.
I have been working in a basement where there is little or no GSM coverage - GSM icon says 'No service' when clicked. I was working there for a few hours so the Kaiser was like this for the whole time. When I eventually finished and got back above ground the GSM icon registered a few bars and I could make a call. There was no audio though - the screen displayed 'Connected' and adjusting the volume did nothing for the audio of the call. The resolution was to soft-reset the Kaiser and then everything was OK.
I had the same behaviour last week when I was working at the same place, but last week I just thought it was a random glitch, todays repeat makes me think it is something more.
Any ideas?

Radio is 1.65.20.29.....
Plus it is security unlocked and HardSPL'd using HardSPL 3.56 from JockyW

That's a good radio, usually. Maybe reinstall the radio or have you tried other 65 radios?
Maybe this will help, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=no+audio&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=10&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images

It's going to be a bit difficult to test as I am not likely to be working there again for a while.....
I'll keep an eye on it and see if it occurs again under any different circumstances.
I did search prior to posting......
Andy

Hmm, it's happened again but different circumstances...
This has just happened again however the circumstances were different. There was no loss of GSM signal, however I did have the GPS & WiFi enabled prior to it failing. I made a call but I didn't hear any ringing, it then said connected but there was no audio. I soft-reset and it is now working again.
I have since enabled WiFi and started TomTom and tested it again and it is working so it doesn't seem consistent.
I upgraded the Radio at the weekend to 1.65.24.36 so this has happened on two different radio versions as well.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Is it possible the Kaiser is faulty? (I don't think so, but you never know?)

there is anohther thread that seems related.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352906
Might prove to be a good place to see if any of your issues are related. Still no fix, unfortunately . . .

I think its related to 3G
I live in area where there is no 3G coverage(ATT sucks!) so I have to turn off 3G functionality in the phone. If I keep 3G mode on then everything works fine but I get the same problem of no audio.
So I suggest try turning off 3G mode when you get this problem and see if this fixed the issue.
Hope that helps,
Regards,
Hardik

I've had this happen twice on AT&T in the last two weeks with official released ROM 1.62.502.0, 1.27.14.09 radio. Both times it happened after I was in an area with sketchy coverage, then returned to good coverage. It was also in a 3G coverage area that would go back and forth between 3G and 2G.
I have a friend who has the same stock ROM and radio, AT&T Tilt phone, who this happens to all the time. He believes it happens when his phone goes to G, and then back to E. Typically that happens if you are close to losing a signal, the phone reverts to GPRS, then bounces back up to EDGE.
I just tried an experiment with some aluminum foil wrapped around the phone to attenuate the signal and bring it back, and couldn't reproduce it. But I don't have 3G here today, so no idea if this is some kind of interaction with 3G.
I don't see any correlation between this and the other thread where the phone ringer is going to zero volume. For me this is complete silence on the call in both directions, even though the phone says connected. When you dial a number, you don't even hear the ringback tone while the phone is ringing on the other end. The other person cannot here you.
One odd thing - I tried to play an MP3 file when the phone was in this state, and heard nothing. I toggled the system volume up and down, to mute, to vibrate, back to full, it didn't make any difference -- still no sound.

Yes, this sounds like exactly the same issue I am seeing. The volume drop to zero is something different - I can move the volume slider up and down when this happens and there is no audio in or out, the only resolution is to soft-reset.
At least it sounds like it isn't a faulty Kaiser
How do you go about raising this as an issue with HTC in an attempt to get them to fix it?
Cheers
Andy

I am also having this loss of sound issue. In a very unscientific test, I seem to have narrowed it down to my use of voice command. By any chance are you using voice command? I turned completely off via the settings and have not had the issue in almost a week. Prior to that it was almost a daily occurrence.

Yes, I have been using MS Voicecommand. Maybe there is a particular build at fault. Last time I had this problem was earlier today, with MS voicecommand 1.6.19209.Bengalih.
I'll try running without Microsoft Voicecommand at all in a fresh ROM for a while, see if that changes anything.

This sounds like the issue discussed here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392606 - and here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390977 - discussion in both threads have died for there was no solution found yet... I had to switch back to Hermes but still keeping the Tilt in the hope that there will be a solution that will bring it back into the usable state.

Touch Pro stinks on 3 major things - volume, battery and answering phone

It is almost 3-4 weeks since i got my touch pro. My friend warned me about TP as it takes a while to get used to. I am very used to this phone right now. So I am qualified to complain!:
1. Battery - not a new topic - but it truly stinks. I read 1000s of threads and disabled all that will suck battery. I disabled activesync and instead installed BBConnect for my corporate emails. In spite of that, my battery life is not impressive - I do use my phone fairly frequently - no browsing, no songs, no videos nothing....only phone calls. I am using the AT&T radio and in the zone with good signal strength.... I dont know what else to look for. This i can combat with better battery 1800mAH..
2. Ringer and speaker volume - TRULY STINKS! After using blackberry curve 8320 for a long time, TP audio is hardly audible - i tried audioparam3, SRS WOW HD and nothing helps. my ringer volume is as high as it could get to....it is totally not acceptable...
3. Missed calls - 9 out of 10 calls are missed calls for me. I tried S2U2 - didnt work well. tried answerskeydisabler -helped a bit but not much.... i tried one sensorlock - it was too difficult to unlock.....every time i reach out my phone and i miss the call - it is very annoying..... can someone help/share your experiences or how are you guys managing this problem.....
(2) & (3) are my major concerns - any suggestions would tremendously help.
thanks

Try PocketShield ( http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/ ) and enable finger slide unlocking and set the options to use it's phone plug in and dialer skin. That has really helped me to not miss calls.
sorry to hear you are having these issues. Here are my impressions:
a) how much battery life are you getting? If you are using your phone for only answering calls most of the times, you should not have a dismal battery life. I have used my TP for a few days like that (as in not much email\web - just phone calls) and it lasted about 2 -2 1/2 days. One culprit could be that you are constantly weaving in and out of 3G and Edge networks or in and out of range - making the TP constantly search for networks - that can suck juice. Dunno the solution to this - you could disable 3G bands and stick to Edge and see if that improves your battery life - since you are not using much data on it, it should not affect you much. Another reason I can have bad battery life is - well I have a bad habit of taking out and turning it on, using TF3d and then turning it off - no reasons why - its like an addiction to me its so pwetty!
b) Ringer volume - its not loud, but I don't mind - i always use a vibrate and ring option, so it always alerts me fine.
c) Missed call - i had that happen to me but it does not happen to me anymore - here's how I handle it - i have noticed that using the hardware answer key (bottom left) is unreliable. I think the capacitative button needs different pressure than what I am using. I do not use S2U2 or anything else. When the phone rings, I just touch the bright green button on the touchscreen and that works for me flawlessly.
Other info - I am using stock ATT ROM without the bloatware and with all the performance TF3D and Diamond\Rafael tweaks I could find on the TF3d configurator and the Diamond Configurator.
My overall impression is that what makes WM phones in general and TP in particular so great is that its truly a multi-use device - i can get corporate email, my music player, FM radio, my logmein\gotomypc\remote desktop client, my web browser and answer phone calls. Thats the beauty of it for me, and the OS is immensely customizable.
Things like call quality on this will probably never match the Nokia I used to use 5 years ago. But it is more than adequate for me.
Hope this helps
try this will give you more time to answer
3) start > settings > phone > services > call forwarding > forward after 30 seconds
If I am not mistaken, TP is NOT a 3G phone. I talked to AT&T customer support and they said that this is not a 3G phone from their eyes. Mine is always on Edge. Strangely I see "G" sign for 1 or 2 sec and then it goes back to Edge - this happens very very rarely. So that possibly not the reason for sucking the juice - i do have the habit of playing with the phone a lot. So today, I decided not to touch except for talking - will see how it goes..... it is almost 1 PM CST and I am down to 84% - of course today i didnt have normal call volume. On a normal day around 5 PM I am down to 19% and I get red sign......
one question on wi-fi: I turn this on at home and does this suck battery life?
answering the phone, because of the touch screen, volume keys on the side, my fingers accidentally touch one of these and goes to VM before even i take it out of the case. Yes, I did change the setting to 30 secs as suggested. i am definitely going to give a shot with Pocketshield.
thanks......

1) It is most definitely a 3G phone. My "H" for HSDPA is on nearly constantly. I get 3G data rates on it.
2) WiFi - Absolutely a battery drain. BIG TIME! This is true of any device, laptop, MP3 player, etc.
WiFi, to my experience is not as big a drain on HTC phones, then it is on Nokia.
For the answer key problem, there is a ROM in the Diamond section that will soon be incorporating the HD slider, so keep your eyes peeled.

Check the communications screen on the settings tab. Make sure you don't have it set to GSM only mode.
Settings->Phone->Band says "Auto" for both network type and GSM/UMTS band. Is this where you're pointing to?

Did you buy a Fuze from AT&T or did you purchase an unlocked UK Touch Pro from a 3rd party retailer?
If you have a Fuze, you should be receiving 3G signals (there is a reg edit to enable HSPA for faster connections).
If you have an imported Touch Pro, you cannot receive AT&T's 850/1900mhz 3G signals. You will only be able to receive EDGE signals in the US.
Also, for reference (in order of speed, slowest to fastest): G=GPRS, E=EDGE, 3G=3G, H=HSPA.
As far as battery life goes, on my UK Touch Pro (only using EDGE, WiFi only when necessary), I'm getting ~3days on a single charge. No missed calls, no problems hearing the ringer, etc.
Mine is imported from UK. Obviously based on what you said, this can't have 3G? However, if you go to Settings->Phone->Band, you have option of choosing other bands as well - haven't tried it. Also there is a separate tab which is enabled for HSPA, couldnt locate now where i saw that..... it appears that only Fuze is a 3G phone.....
My Fuze was a super battery hog until I installed NATF's v2.3 Rom. I won't say it's like night and day, but it's a big difference. After I installed the new rom I was using HSDPA. It was 3G. Since I only was getting 3G about half the time, it was constantly looking for 3G. I think now it uses T Mobiles tower too wich helps with the data signal. I could be wrong but that's what I've noticed. BlueTooth is a huge battery hog. Also I noticed that once I had completely drained my battery and completely charged it about 7 or 8 times the battery life got a lot better. I guess it just got worn in essentially I think mostly it was the tweaks and getting rid of all the bloat that NATF's Rom did, but I still have to charge my phone half way throught the day. It's just worth it to me when you look at all the stuff This phone can do.
Concerning the ringer volume: it heavily depends on the ringtone you use. E.g. I tried a MIDI one, it was much too low, the MP3 ringtones were better but in the end I settled on Ring-OldPhone2 which I consider pretty loud on the highest volume setting.
Concerning the missed calls issue: Yes, I definetely agree on this. Having played around with Answerkeys Disabler, I came across a setting that will suffice as a halfway solution. "Lock only from standby" was the registry setting that caused me the last days a lot of those damn missed calls....

Dude, I wish I was getting missed calls.
Everytime my phone rings, it'll vibrate for a few seconds and then stop. Not because I missed the call, but because I somehow managed to accept the call while it was in my pouch by pressing the accept button.
It's really starting to annoy me and was wondering if anyone knew if I could disable to ability to answer via touch screen, or another way around it.
9-10 calls are answered without me even knowing it. Once my boss called me and he said that he thought I was just being rude and put him on hold 'cause he could hear me talking, but just not to him
Can anyone help?
PS. Sorry for the therad jacking!

UK Touch Pro is a 3G phone, but it only works with 900/2100mhz 3G (most carriers in Europe use 2100mhz). The Band selection option has options for 850/1900, but that's only because it's a "generic" ROM; changing the software options does not (and cannot) modify the hardware radio.
So essentially only the Fuze on AT&T (or CDMA Touch Pro on Sprint/Verizon) will get 3G signals in the US.
Of course, if you take a vacation to Europe, you will be able to receive 3G signals.....
I've gone through several locking programs from S2U2 which I found buggy, to the one you rotate around (I've forgotten its name) and many others. I currently use TouchLockPro 1.8, it's nearly perfect, you can tap the capacitive area a few times and it unlocks, or if it's bright enough it will unlock itself after a few seconds. The only niggle I have is that it sometimes (infrequently) doesn't register taps when the phone is ringing, something to do with the phone app using too much cpu I guess, but it will instantly unlock if you remove the stylus. So far it's cost me no missed calls unlike the others.

Have you tried PocketShield? I'm curious how TouchLockPro compares with it.
I used to think the ringer/call volume was a bit low...
But now I am using PROven 1.08 and an mp3 ringtone and it is LOUD! Louder than my old Blackjack, which was easily the loudest phone I had ever heard.

[Q] AT&T Atrix 2 frequent radio crash

Hi guys
I've tried researching this issue from time to time but have never been able to find any definitive information. A couple of threads around the traps detailing similar problems, but that's it. Anyway, what happens is this: the phone will be showing a couple of bars or whatever, but there actually isn't any signal at all. Calls can be initiated, but wont actually connect, and then can't be ended either. The only way to resolve the issue is to reboot the phone, or activate airplane mode and then deactivate it again (which tends to take considerably longer than a simple reboot). I'm calling it a radio crash because that's what it seems to be, but I could of course be wrong about what is actually going on under the hood.
This post is basically part of an effort to diagnose the problem before I decide what this phone's future will be (have a new, different model on the way now).
Thanks for reading, and any advice/information will be much appreciated
It sounds as if you have a defective phone, or it could be you carrier.
Have you tried a different phone.
Do other people have the same problem with that carrier
You could also think of it like this, carrier problem, you can connect to wifi if it doesnt have internet connection, it still can show full bars but nothing will load
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I have an SGS3 now, with the same SIM in it (cut down to micro of course). Average signal strength (as reported by third party apps that don't pad) is about the same, but no dropouts at all (as monitored and reported by the No Signal Alert app). However the SGS3 supports both my carrier frequencies, and the Atrix 2 doesn't. Having said that, the SGS3 seems to stay on 2100MHz all the time anyway where I am.
I've also put a different SIM in my Atrix 2, from a network that is more compatible (850/2100), and although the dropouts are less frequent, they are still occurring. However, I haven't had a "radio driver crash" in over a week. The dropouts have only been momentary too, lasting no more than a few seconds, 1-3 times per day (mostly in the afternoon).
I'm also planning to charge the phone up and leave it at a couple of other locations for a day or two while continuing to monitor signal interruptions. Should be interesting.
Thanks for the reply
Just a quick update: left the phone at another location for a few days where the average signal strength is stronger, and not a single dropout was logged during that time. In certain areas this phone is obviously not as good as some others at maintaining a signal, but I don't think the dropouts themselves are indicative of a fault given this new information.
The previous instances of radio lockups/crashes are still haunting me a little, but this strange phenomenon is still yet to occur again. I also forgot to mention that I'd previously done a full restoration of the official 4.0.4 ICS release in order to return to the phone completely to stock, which might have something to do with that. Previously it was rooted, with only some minor modifications, but I guess it's not beyond the realm of possibility.
Wait i have an idea
Send me your apn data.
Motorola doesnt have the best antennas either.
Also does it crash at a certain time after it is turned on or is it random?

[Q] Weak signal UNTIL I make a voice call

My new phone is exhibiting strange behavior that I haven't seen any postings about. (okay, one posting, but it didn't have any replies http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660243 )
I had a Note 2 (AT&T) that worked great for about 6 months until the usb port died. Several ROMS, several modems, no signal problems.
I warranty returned it, and new phone constantly loses or maintains a week signal, until I make a call. Using data, the signal stays pretty weak, and drops a lot. Typically around 1 bar. Browsing the web, the pages hang for minutes at a time. Outbound text messages frequently fail with an error. Incoming calls frequently go straight to voicemail. But, if I dial voicemail, the signal bar immediately jumps to full bars. Now I can hang up, and use a strong data connection for about 3-5 minutes, until the signal slowly drops back down. Toggling airplane mode, or rebooting does not seem to jump start the signal. Making a voice call though, jump starts it immediately every time. Additionally, the battery life seems to be much worse, but I haven't actually benchmarked it. It is the battery from the original phone.
I've tried the phone bone stock with the latest 3 modems, and with CleanROM and latest 2 modems, and with stock and Adam kernels. The behaviour is exactly the same in all cases. It's like the radio just sort of goes to sleep until I make a call.
At first I just assumed it was a hardware issue, because the old phone worked just fine, but the fact that a phone call wakes it up makes me wonder if there's more to it. I took it into my local AT&T store and they found the IMEI was listed as the old phone, and corrected it. Of course, my phone worked perfectly in the store, even before the IMEI change. I figured that was the problem though, and it actually seemed to work for the rest of the day, but the next morning it was back to a weak signal.
At this point I guess I'll return it, and try another one, but I figured I'd check here and see if there was a better solution.

[Q] Weird behaviour on 3G or LTE

Hello,
I'm asking for some help to diagnose my call problems on UMTS.
First of all, three things happened recently, and let's assume that they happened roughly at the same time:
I dropped my Nexus 5 on concrete shattering the screen completely;
Google released Lollipop which some people believe has problems with 3G and LTE;
I'm using a rather old SIM card manually cut to fit micro-SIM dimensions.
About two days after receiving my Nexus 5 back from guys servicing it (new LCD screen) I had a telephone conversation that was disconnecting once every minute or two. There was no problem recalling though. The same day later I noticed that dialer app says "Emergency calls only" which was pretty weird. I was on Cyanogenmod 11, some recent nightly back then.
My first guess - revert to earlier nightly via TWRP. It didn't help - I was still on emergency calls only and nobody was able to call me. However, I could browse Internet without any problems on 3G.
Second guess - clean flash stock 5.0.1. It didn't help too, however calling went back on for some time (several minutes) before breaking back to "Emergency calls only".
Third guess - buy a starter SIM and check if it works. It did at first but stopped after an hour or so.
Fourth guess - bring the phone back to guys servicing the LCD to check antennas. I've left it for two days. It was opened and antennas checked. Everything was fine, not even a bent flex.
For all this time when on 3G/LTE data transmission worked flawlessly. I could download Google Maps, browse the Internet, whatever. It's just the very basic phone function that acts weird - as if I wasn't registered to a network. Everything seems to work fine on 2G, except for very rare disconnects (once per two, or three days).
So, considering it's pretty weird I'm seeking for help - could it be possible that after hitting concrete something broke down on the motherboard that results in such weird behavior? Or is, perhaps, my retro-SIM dying? Any ideas? Maybe flashing a well-tested radio ROM? Diagnostic apps?

OPO Intermittently connects to 3G/4G, 2g network always working

Hello,
I have a problem with my OPO that has been going on for months now (I suspect it's hardware based? but not sure)
My opo can always connect to 2g network
My opo can only connect for a limited time to 3G/4G networks. If i change the network type, I get internet alright for about an hour or so. After some time or event (can't find a pattern), the phone is suddenly disconnected from mobile internet (even though data is ON), but my reception indicator is full. I also cannot place calls or get called: when I try calling, I get either a textbox "network unavailable" or the call attempt just ends on it's own without result. I'll call this state "fake 4g"
Here's what I have already tried:
-reboot, flash other rom, factory reset
-downgrade and upgrade TWRP back again
-messing around with 4636 (but i think i haven't tried switching to US band and back to EU - i'm from europe). Note: the interface shows precisely one cell tower when i'm connected to fake 4g
-going back full stock (flashing a version of cm prior to YOGPAS1N0) in order to update the radio. I even installed oxygen at some point
-pulling a logcat. However, this problem (other than the fact that i have only have a basic grasp of IT) is that I cannot exactly pinpoint WHEN fake 4g occurred without looking at the screen/placing a call. I managed to determine fake 4g came up between 4:55 and 5:46, which is still a heck of a logcat. In order to generate some logcat chatter, i've placed a few unsuccessful calls during fake 4g period (i've pinpointed those logs)
Does anyone have any idea as to the cause of this bug (not entirely sure it's hardware based because it works, well, sometimes...)? Or can anyone maybe tell me what to look for in that 50 minute logcat? I guess I can always have another logcat run in the weekend and check every 5 mins until i can spot fake 4g happening.
Note: I haven't opened it to check whether the antenna is plugged or anything (not that i would see much, i think). Anyway, i can always do it if need be.
Thanks in advance
I have been having a similar problem, the LTE range keeps fluctuating from zero to 3/4th to full from time to time, even when the phone is lying stable. Range appears well when on 3g. It isn't sim card based as iv'e tried various sim ,phone combinations.
Also i have noticed many topics appearing in the past few months regarding network issues ... some kind of a pattern ?
Ah yeah I forgot to mention that I tried the simswap trick too, to no avail.
So you're suggesting the hardware antenna might be of poor quality, that might be the case. If so, I suppose the antenna cannot be easily changed (ie incorporated in mobo or whatever).
Does anyone know whether antennae are prone to fail in general?

Nope.If there hasn't been anything that could damage the hardware,no.
Have you tried changing firmwares?

Even i am facing the similar kind of problem and posted my question here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/internet-issues-intermittently-unable-t3714911. One more thing to note is if you try tethering with laptop the internet works just fine (it happens with my device) . Even i have tried many combination with 4636 interface but i really can't understand the reason behind it.
Flash latest modem firmware... Then *#*#4636#*#* ..then on phone change signal to 3g only or LTE only..
Helped me from losing signal
