Hey there,
I'm losing my mind trying to configure Outlook Mobile on my HTC Diamond for my AOL mailaccount. Receiving mails is no problem at all but Outlook's still unable to send any mails.. "Messages could not be sent. Check your network coverage and account setting and try again".
Outbox is set to "smtp.aim.com:587" (tried smtp.aol.com:587 as well), authentification is activated, SSL deactivated. Tried a lot of different settings and ports i found on the net as well, didn't help. Same settings work on my desktop Thunderbird client well. Any idea what the problem might be?

I recently purchased an HTCs S640 (I guess it's also called Isis) from Telus with Windows Mobile 6. I seem to have a problem with the built in messaging application receiving emails from my POP3 account which I've set up with a webspace provider that also hosts my website.
The weird part is that I receive messages fine when the phone is synced up to my computer via USB and ActiveSync, but it fails when I'm using Wifi and the phone is disconnected from my computer. Another weird thing is that the phone seems to log into my incoming mail server, looks for changes but doesn't actually download any messages.. and then logs out as if I have no emails... no error messages or anything.. The outgoing mailserver I've set to my ISP's SMTP address and that works fine .. it's just incoming messages I have a problem with.
I've also set up my Gmail account with IMAP which works (except for the known issue of recieving only headers for HTML messages) and my hotmail accounts through Windows Live.
I'm working with my web host to see if there is anything on their end that can be fixed.. but the same setting I am using in HTC's messaging application I am also using on my desktop computer's Outlook and they work fine.
Any suggestions?
Hi
We have several phones with Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 that have the same problem. Problem is that when they try to send an email with no attachment it sends fine using GRPS but as soon as you add an attachment of any size it tries to send the email using Wifi even when Wifi is turned off! Consequently the email doesn't send and the complete send/receive cycle fails meaning the user doesn't even get any new emails and no errors are displayed. It is very frustrating for the users as they have to constantly check the outbox to be sure send/receive is working.
For a little background, the reason i know its trying to use the Wifi connection that i checked the control logs on the device.
Thanks in advance for your help.
More information
I have added the log entries from the phone in hopes that someone may be able to identify the issues.

Have you tried with a different email account?
This is for exchange / outlook / activesync so there isn't another email account to try. Thing is it complete works for the nokia e61's we have using the same settings.
i'd try to do it sending from a hotmail or gmail to rule out the pda being the issue and making sure the activesync being the issue
Other email account
Set up a rogers/yahoo email account using imap and it sends email with attachments with no trouble. Also, notice that in my first post that the radstate is wifi even though i don't have wifi turned on!
More info
Did a hard reset of the phone and now in the log instead of trying to connect to wifi a get a simple error
2008-07-10 17:29:32 ConnInfo Failed (0x80004005)
All the research points to their being a problem with an sync item which probably is the email with the attachment. But why??? I've tried all different types of attachments and combinations.
Also, i did get it to work 3 times right after a hard reset but subsequent tries failed.
Hey, I just got the fuze and setup my gmail. I can receive, but can't send. Whey it tried to send I get the message "The messag(s) could not be sent. Check that you have the network coverage and that yhour account information is correct. Then try resending".
I did verify my account info was correct and I double checked the gmail settings. Also I thought maybe the proxy was active so I did run the disable proxy.
Anyone else have this issue?

If you have AT&T set your SMTP to: CWMX.COM
This is a known, and now fixed Microsoft problem with WM 6.1 Here is the link to the download on the Microsoft site.

I got the same error trying to send an email to Gmail IMAP server over a 3G connection. Does the WinMo 6.1 problem/fix apply to Gmail IMAP the same as it does to POP3 accounts?
Sure does.
Brian
Thanks for the verification, Brian. I applied the fix, and Gmail IMAP is working as it should.

This resolved the GMail outbound email issue for me as well.
Thanks to all of you who help others around here!
Okay, so I'm having this problem as well. I installed the Microsoft update, but like ... it's still not working.
I recently switched from a Tytn II/Tilt and Touch Pro/Fuze. I had email working on my Tilt, but it won't let me send on the Fuze. I am 100% sure all the settings are correct, and like I said, the update is installed. Aside from the proxy server thing, I have no ideas of how to fix this. But I don't know how the proxy server thing works.

What provider do you have, what account are you trying to set up, what ROM are you on, etc, etc, etc.....
I hope you weren't expecting someone to answer your vague question...
Yes, you mentioned Tilt and Fuze which tells me that your on AT&T but you really haven't provided enough info to assist you.
For your proxy, go to Start\Settings\Connection\Connections\Manage Existing Connections\Proxy Settings and check "TAhis network connects to the internet" uncheck "this network uses a proxy" and clear out any proxy listed.
Also go to Advanced\Select Networks and set both to MediaNet.
Depending on WHAT e-mail your trying to set up, check your settings for the outgoing server.
For example default settings for Yahoo put in smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com but I have to remove .mobile to get it to send.
Fuze and gmail
I have pop enabled for gmail--do I need imap instead?
I can't seem to connect--it rejects my password.
Hotmail works.
Pop3 through Lunarpages server works fine.
I can access my gmail just fine on my desktop computer.
oopsss, it decided to start working..didn't do anything different, not even reboot. persistence pays..
Fuze--change default email account?
How do I change my default email account?
I have several apps that send email to the default email set in Windows, and they all end up in the Outlook E-mail account Outbox, which is the Exchange one, and I don't use it.
Can't delete or change it. AT&T support was clueless.
Hello,
I'm having some troubles understanding how email process in WM6.
I have a POP3 account for business mail, and i access it from 3 different places (Work, Home and PDA). All three work fine and without problems, but not sync'd.
I noticed that everytime i send an email at work, it will not be seen in PDA neither at home. If i send the email at home, it won't be seen at PDA neither at work.
I was exploring the WM6 sync stuff and i got confused....
I managed to sync the mail using Windows Mobile Device Center and all mail from PC was sync'd with the PDA, but i noticed also that if i try to send an email from PDA, it won't get out of the outbox until i connect my USB cable to the PC (stupid thing).
Is there any way of having my email sync'd?
Maybe some IMAP account or something else? I think it won't be possible with a standard POP3 account.
Thank you for any help.
You're right, IMAP is the only protocol that syncs mail.
You could try forwarding all your POP3 mail to a GMail account and then set GMail to send mail using your POP3 email.
hello, many times i cannot synchronize the mob with hotmail account. when i tap send/receive, although mob tries to syncronize my mails, it cant... why is that?
does it work sometimes or never?
What message does it give when sync fails?
there may be many possible problems so it is important to start eliminating possible causes.
without more info its hard to say but some possible reasons could be:
incorrect setup info (username or password or imap/pop setting)
phone not automatically connecting to data service when trying to send/receive, so check you have internet before trying to receive
your carrier maybe blocking mail port, test over wifi?
