dont no what wm6 rom 2 use?

hi all, im about to buy Universal on sat and im not sure what wm6 rom to use, ask me a question about BA roms and i cud tel u the answer but uni?????, wheres that leaked wm6 rom at, or should i use one of the others.. thanks for any help... oh almost 4got do the others hav internet callling like that leaked one...

There are 3 WM6 ROMs for the Universal floating around here, namely:
1st: Helmi's ROM version 1.1 (the ORIGINAL ROM where all the others originated). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291875
2nd: JWright's ROM version 2.01.08 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293902
3rd: PDAViet's ROM version 2.00.07 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294097
To be honest ALL are very good and highly stable. To save you all the reading, just try each one and soft reset immediately without installing any application. WHY? Because after a soft reset, you will most likely experience FREEZING that can only be cured by 3-4 soft resets. Each ROM had different results on the Universal. Others claim HELMI's ROM is the best and does not have the FREEZING effect after a soft reset, while others claim JWright's, and some PDAViet's ROM. If you are going to read ALL 3 threads, they all say that they experienced FREEZING after a soft reset. But, it is up to the user to pick which one is the most stable. So, to get you going, just try them one by one and soft reset, whoever does not FREEZE after the first soft reset, STICK TO THAT ROM, for most likely that is the most stable for your UNIVERSAL.

it's good, fast... people are saying less battery with wm6, but i wasn't on wm5 long enough to test that. i hated wm5.
i know jwright has two really good apps. usb hdd, if you copy a lot of song or anime off and on the mobile, usbhdd makes the universal look like flashdrive to your computer.
also there's task manager which closes programs when you press x instead of minimizing them.
when i soft reset i have 26 megs free program memory.

try 2.01.08 PV You'll be happy with this

I am using JWright's ROM and seems very stable. I love the flash drive program. the only bugs I have encountered are 1. the freezing after reset (every rom has this I am sure) 2. now and than I loose connection to mt bt headset and have to turn on/off to re connect. The rom is very quick and so far I have no reason to switch. Good luck and keep us posted on the rom you chose and why.

DarkForce ROM is the BEST for me!
I have used all ROM versions.....
Helmi's ROM is OK, but DarkForce is PERFECT...

My advice! don't use any. stick with your service provider ROM. This is my experience, YMMV. Unless of course you like to play with it and not use your phone seriously.
That's what I do but i always go back to my ISP ROM. It is stable, no hangs, no freezing and maximum amount of RAM. No useless third party aplictions, and everything just works as you would expect.
It is OK to use these ROMS for experimentation. any missing features, can be easily puchased or downloaded for free; such as html in emails (qmail), PIE a little better in ROM 6 but not much. The usb stuff is useful too but you can do the same with activesync (i.e. transfer files etc..).

is there newer wm6 rom than 1.1? if i am not mistaken now all wm6 rom available in this forum is v1.1 (helmi,jwright,darkforce,etc.).

jwright and i think darkforce are not based on 1.1. neither are my beta roms (but you can't have yet, setill a few bugs )

I'm still really dissapointed with all of the WM6 ROM releases, the memory management is absolutely dire compared to WM6 on the Wizard.
Running the same apps, I get about 17 to 20mb free RAM on my Wizard, and it doesn't seem to suffer from leaks anywhere near as bad.
On the Universal, after a day of use, it's down to 8mb.
I know it caches more for graphics, but it's still pretty poor.
I guess untill more is commercially released for things to be borrowed from, I'm stuck with it though.

just wait a few days maybe a week, then i should ahve a MUCH better rom.

I agree the memory drops to 8-9mb even if the device is on standby.
Wm6 drawback.

After using some apps and free ram after I get between 17 and 19, sometimes 20Mb.
I've Wisbar, pocketbreeze and ilauncher running on today.

Well, I only run PocketBreeze & iLauncher on my today screen, and regular apps are Live Messenger, MS Reader, Pocket Word & Excel, and Pocket Informant.
These same apps on my Wizard don't cause a problem, but on the Universal they do, on every single WM6 ROM.
Some last longer than others before the memory goes down that far, but in general, the Universal WM6 builds have issues that other devices running WM6 don't suffer from.

Yes I do get upto 18mb . but there is gradual decline in memory. I surely feel there is a leak in all wm6 roms. Lets hope in future we will get a good solution to this.

Same frustrations until just the last several days. Now using arifqur's HK ROM... there's no real leakage (24MB->20MB), and it seems otherwise stable. Very fast, as long as I don;t use WA2.

I'm using Hemi's WM6 1.1 with no memoryleak problems what so ever. Using WA2+WAD, phonealarm, P+, PB, weatherpanel and many other apps installed.
main memory: 10.56 and internal storage 19.92

I am using PDAviet rom now, I feel the universal running not so fast as i expect. Could someone give me some recommendation which rom is faster thatn pdaviet(2.07) rom.
There are so many wm6 roms for universal, all i need is the speed and stability, video calling and so on is not my consideration.

Try Ivan's ROM... I think that this is most stable and functional
ROM based on new builds No SD problems, no radio crashing, no
camera or pictures problem, no mail or MMS problems, no GPRS problems, etc

But hey, i'm having this f...g GPRS connectivity problem!

yes this is really the reality....you really have to try different ROMS and determine which suits you best..... all ROMS are not stable depending on your point of view.... you're sure to be flooded with plenty of suggestions of which ROM is best but at the end of the line.. it is you who will determine what is best...

Do what I did. Try different roms. Some will suit your needs, some wont. remember all roms are a trade off between content and speed (even the OEM ones!) so find one that has what you need (or go vanilla and load what you need). either way stick with it!
On a more personal note. I find the PDAViet 2.10.11 rom suits me best with regards to apps and speed.

So far My tries and report is this:
features wanted - Videocall, Wifi, 3G working
1. Leo's rom v1 - had some problems with wifi for me.
2. Leo's rom v2 worked for a long time, but wasn't stable in terms of memory leaks. Slow phone response. video call stopped working for me.
3. Leo's aku 0.5 gives problems with SD card will try using sdhc, maybe problems gone. Fast phone response.
4. jwright cmps - very stable. a little slow.. Ivan's works much faster.
5. Ivan's v1 sd problems as well. also problem with setting up new mail account.
Going to try ranju rom, indra xoj. I haven't decided which to try. trying to find solution for SD problems on Ivan's rom.

which build? i almost tried all kinds of Build! i tried that build 15341 was nice for WIFI WPA.

I've been uing pdaviet's new rom, and I'm extremely satisfied!

A few words for SD problem:
There is a new technology and standard for >4GB cards, which is SDHC. Meaning that, all 8GB and higher capacity cards are SDHC. But unfortunately our giant Uni do not support SDHC.
Mamaich did an wonderful afford to patch the available driver and Uni now supports SDHC with the patched driver.
No problem is reported for sdhc cards yet...

Actually I've ordered an SDHC card but it'll take time to get (ebay)..
In any case, SD cards should work fine as well, there shouldn't be a difference. It's a shame, otherwise these new WM6 ROM's are something else!

Strange that I'm the first to comment.
(everybody else is busy with B&L latest rom)
But this one is great !
- Extremly fast !!!
- stable until now (using for 4 hours)
- minor (no flashdisk)
- hidden extend rom
- near vanilla but with minesweeper ??!
- camera working (only not with hardwarekey)
- bluetooth working (as opposed to the latest from B&L)
- Comm.manager is lighter, more responsive and less of a memory hog.
all in all a GREAT rom.

I fully agree. When you asked earlier for someone to participate as a beta tester, I wanted to volunteer. The requirement was for a G4 device, which unfortunately I do have one.
Master Mo3ulla please keep up the good work. Though I have a request for you.
Flash Disk is very important for me. Universal has very little storage for programs, which is about 51MB (main storage + extrom). Flash Disk gives another 23MB worth of storage, which is really a premium for G3 device users. I hope you consider this and issue a ROM for only G3 devices with Flash Disk!
I have two 4GB SD cards full of music. I like to switch them and for this reason, I don't install any programs in SD.

Bug report. ROM works perfect with Radio 1.15, but it hangs on boot screen with 1.18 Radio. Any ideas?

its small bug in os loader /// while booting he sends (set radio on command )
but for unknown reasons, her attempt to run cause error .. because of what operating system is not loaded beyond the first splash screen

g3 confirmed .... i have uni with 128 (g3).. g4 and g4 universal totally same in memory connection .. which means that the 128 Megabyte model G4 will also work well

One silly question, since both the g3 and g4 are totally same in memory connection, how come the flash disk never works on the g4. Or is it the RAM that are the same, not the ROM???

all this is due to the fact that I have no reason, the floodplain of such conduct ... my friend with G4 confirmed the launch .. so it is not clear the reason for this behavior on most G4 devices

It seems that once upgraded to 1.18 Radio, it will freeze on boot even if you downgrade. Could there be anything left residednt in memory when changing Radio Roms?

don t know how to install this rom. The file is called nk.nbf Never heard of this?? What to do?

I am using this rom for the last 24 hours.... so far so good
I am using direct push and works fine
Battery life seems good too
The only problem i am having (just a little thing) is that I cannot hide the battery icon on the task bar, I used the hidebatteryicon.cab I found on the forum.
Any registry tweak other than HKLM\Services\Power\ShowIcon = 0 ?

WinMo6 upgrading: what about the risks?

Got a G4 2.01 O2-branded Universal here. It's a wonderful device, but WM5 is getting really outdated. Most new software is coming out only for WM6, and RAM is low here (64MB total, 22.5MB free after soft-reset). I'm interested in flashing Tomal WM6.1 V8.9 Lite, but I am still afraid about the risk of bricking my dear Uni. (If it bricks, I won't have enough money for another device, and Unis are quite rare here in Brazil. Also, I just love my Uni, as many of you.) So, I still have some questions, and I think here is the perfect place to ask them.
1. What about the risks? How can I escape the bricking? I don't have an UPS here.
2. And how can I flash from an SD card? This seems a bit safer than doing it via USB without an UPS. Got a 2GB card here, and a 8GB SDHC, working via PsiDoc's driver.
3. Will the upgrade enhance my free RAM? Or at least keep it that way? (There's no one that upgrades the Uni's RAM to 128MB here in Brazil, and I don't want to disassemble my mainboard and ship it overseas. Afraid of breaking my device. Currently, free RAM after soft-reset is 22.5MB.)
4. When (if) I upgrade, I know my ROM will be cleared out. Got SPB Backup here, will this backup work under WM6.1? Are there any better ways to back my Uni up? I don't have any important documents on ROM.
5. Will everything work fine under WM6.1? Wi-Fi (with WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK), 3G, IR beaming, Bluetooth OBEX and A2DP, SDHC card support (most important, because I use a 8GB card), and stuff? (3G videocalling doesn't work under WM6.x, this I know, and since I don't use it, it's okay for me.)
6. What's the best WM6 ROM available over there? I've heard Tomal's versions are really good, and that's why V8.9 Lite is my first choice.

Ok there is not that much risk as all of have upgraded our rom here... well if you follow the steps properly you will not brick your device... and Tomal's v8.9 is good, stable and fast and free ram more than your current...i haven't personally flashed from sd card but doing it from pc is also safe and fast.... and yes spb back up will work in 6.1... instructions here

Just upgraded my Uni with Tomal V8.9. I was a little bit scared during the process but... It worked flawlessly! My Uni rebooted in ~2min30, now it boots in ~35sec! Free RAM now is 28.72MB! Thank you Rajiv for giving me confidence to upgrade and thank you Tomal for uploading such a great ROM!
