Does anyone know of a (inexpensive) method of boosting the cellular reception in a fixed structure? I live in an area where the cell signal is rather weak, and fades in and out depending on where I happen to be in my house, yet is pretty good on my deck. Fine by me... except when it rains.
I was hoping there might be a device that would either boost the normal cell signal, or perhaps overcome the building materials to give me better signal inside the house. It would need to be wireless, rather than connected physically to the phone, though.
Would something like this work? CLICKY Couldn't one of those old-fashioned 'passive' mobile antennas work?
I have no idea if these things really work, and if they're worth the price.

The signal reception,sound quality, GPS etc..is related to the Radio ROM on your phone. You could try playing around with a couple of different radios and see which one works better for you.

Yes, I understand, but a lack of signal is something that won't be significantly helped by any differences in flashed radios.
I'm presently on 1.65.16.25 and have been experiencing the same signal issues that I've had on every other cellphone I've owned, so I have to believe it's a signal issue more so than a radio issue. It's got to be a combination of location/terrain/building materials that are the problem. That's why I was asking about boosters or passive antennas - you know - something like this:

solder the antenna wire to the cell radio lol
When I was using my phone as a modem in my flat (with very very poor reception) I found the only way to boost my signol was to line my bin with tin foil, plonk in the phone and point the bin in a direction. Worked for me lol

Anyone can tell me the exact location of the gps receiver and the gsm antenna inside the Trinitty, to cut my aluminium case to have more radio signal and unblock the GPS receiver.

Try the local hospital psychiatry department Are you mad wanting to do that to your trinity. I doubt very much you'll gain a lot from it - and you risk losing LOTS! GPS works well for lots of Trinity users. If you are not experiencing good GPS reception - try find out what the problem is.

There is a picture of it somewhere over in the hermes gps technical thread... You might have to go looking there...

It´s done...
This way the GSM and GPS Signal pass true the Aluminium case, with normal strange, like the P3600 was out of the case.
Now it protects and works 100%....

I was doing a screen replacement on a Nexus 5 and a small part from the motherboard fell off.
3 pictures to illustrate the problem here:

Afterwards, the mobile connection was a lot worse than before. Now, 2 weeks later, the phone's connection has become unusable and it constantly shows no service. Only very rarely does it have any sort of connection (Edge/3G/H/4G).
Questions:
1)What is the part that came off? (see album above) My knowledge is a bit limited but I'm quite sure it has to do with the connection? I notice there are 3 other parts exactly like this spread over the motherboard.
2)Can I repair it? Do I glue it back on? Do I solder it on? Does it somehow click on? (I have tried if it clicks but this part is so tiny it's almost impossible to really handle
3)Based on my explanation, do you think this tiny part is the only cause? The phone still had some connection at first but it got worse. I'm also planning to order replacement antenna cables to see if that helps.

In my case.. I had to replace the charging circuit Cuz it was 'broken' as described by the cellphone shop.. It has connections to the antenna.. Now phone is fully working.. Before that though, I tried different sim cards with different companies (bell Rogers and fido) all worked on my phone except my carrier sim card (mobilicity). After replacing the circuit I just mentioned everything works fine. Cost is 25$
Needs solder it's an rf trimmer /radio frequency. It's vital to an ariel of one type or other. If you want to risk a bodge assemble everything except the back and hold it in place with bluetack. If it works I was going to say epoxy it but don't. Get someone to solder it. It's easy to do if you have the skills.
Oh vital it's right way round and has now been turned. There should be a slot for tuning it.

Smartphone reviews are more and more complete as the competition between review websites increase but there is always a test kind of missing: signal reception.
Indeed it's hard to find data about it over the net. Some phone makers are happy to communicate about some technology they develop, and some just don't.
Nowadays it seems that all that matter is photo quality, design, autonomy and the screen. At long as you got a "bar" (which doesn't mean anything as we know) consumer seems to be happy... lol.
I found some comparisons that AndroidAuthority made, but that's about it (I can't post outside links yet...):
- Xperia Z5, LG G4, Galaxy Note 5, iPhone 6S, Moto X Style ( /best-lte-xperia-z5-x-style-note-5-iphone-6s-lg-g4-648755/ )
- Galaxy S6, LG G4, Huawei P8 ( /best-4g-galaxy-s6-v-huawei-p8-v-lg-g4-612827/ )
Over here they look at signal strength (near -60dBm being perfect, and near -110dBm being call failure), network switching rate, drapped calls, etc, which give you some clues.

The point is to find with what phone you really have a change to get a nice signal (just to receive a call or to get stable data coming through), when some will just drop. Apparently Huawei got a little something better with their Signal + technology, when Apple seems to do good too, but the "king" Samsung seems to be quite crappy about it, even if review websites do not reflect it.
What do you think? Any trouble with your Samsung? Huawei owners do you really see a difference? (and not just about "bars" at home).
I guess it should be a good selling argument stating that your phone is having a better signal than the others (if you are traveling a lot, when hiking, during highway drive, using less battery if your antenna is less stressed, etc).
So my 8T is converted to global, and I have the EU 11.0.6.9 update installed.
I'm not sure if its just the updates or just the phone in general but I noticed it struggles, or rather sucks in certain areas that do not have the greatest reception in comparison to iPhones. I was recently on a job, where just about everyone with an iphone was able to lock in with a decent signal, meanwhile my 8T couldn't even get a single bar. Same carriers too.(TMO)
Anyone else notice this?
I think it's just the phone. There's an area on the highway near my house that has a low signal (in between two cell towers) and the 8T will drop out with no signal, where every other phone will be able to maintain at least 1 bar.
Oddly enough I've been signal in places where I didn't get signal with my last phone? Same sim card, both phones were running Lineage.
Of course there are so many factors, it's going to be hard to get "real" results.

If you happen to have the R14 or newer SIM card and 5G turned on, your phone could be preferring upgraded Sprint band 41 over other frequency bands. I've found that in some areas this doesn't work so well because the band is really touchy without having overlapping coverage. For that reason I change my data setting to 4G/3G/GSM. I don't believe the iPhones have that band or access to that band yet. It depends on the iPhone I guess.
I have a Sprint purchased, on TMO sim card per their instructions after the merger. I'm seriously considering MSM back to the T-Mobile software. For the simple reason of what you just described. I was blazingly fast 5G before the conversion. Now I struggle with even connection on Wi-Fi calling or no connection for phone calls at all out of my house it's horrible.
And what the hell is the the H in my data on notification bar.

The room may have put an older baseband on the phone which can causes issues like this.
Hello guys.
Some time ago I purchased a Korean variant V50.
The phone is really nice all but after a few days I noticed that the WiFi aignal strenght is much worse that my wifes P20 Pro.
As I'm using an unlimited mobile data plan and my carriers 4G coverage is flawless, I never bothered.
But then a couple days after I went to use G Maps to get somewhere.
And funny enough, the GPS wasn't working properly.
I did some tests and noticed that where my wifes phone was picking up coverage from 20 odd satellites with perfect strenght and under 1 meter accuracy, my V50 was only finding around 5 satellites, and even those with an accuracy of over 8-10 meters.
So after some reading I concluded that my phones WiFi and GPS antennas are either faulty or simply contacts are not touching, as I have experienced in the past.
I contacted the seller and he was nice enough to send me all the antennas, all original, pulled out of a screen damaged V50 Verizon I believe.
I'm not worried about that as they are physically identical but want to ask you guys if you know which one of these is the WiFi and GPS antenna.

Found the issue.
The phone is refurbished so the back cover isn't original.
I believe the paint on it is metalic.
The moment I removed it, my GPS locked to 30+ satellites.
Just leaving this here in case others are having the same issue
I thing wifi anthena is on the biggest part with wireless charging anthena. the bottom part seem to be from american version LMV450 and probably will not work correctly. Also check out charging connector part for the version.
