Anyone recommend a VGA replacement for my TyTN II?? - General Topics

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had much experience trying to replace a TyTN II. I've been really please with it, but I don't really use the keyboard and would really love a VGA screen.
I've looked at the Eten X650 and X800 but the reviews are a bit mixed to say the least and I'm just not sure!
So has anyone made the switch from an HTC device to an Eten or i-mate etc successfully or any other similar phone? And found them to be useable?!?!
Any suggestions on a new model would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advanced,
Gadget.

You could look at the Touch Diamond. If you want a keyboard wait for the Touch Pro.

gadgetdude, similar situation here. Except I'm moving from a standard tytn to an I-mate 9502 and I need the keyboard. This is only day 2 in the switch for me, but I can say it's different. One big thing I miss is the lack of the great HTC apps like the home plugin, audio manager, and task manager. That hurts. Also, I gotta say, while the VGA is good for browsing and makes the fonts look great, it's kinda of a waste on a 2.8" screen.
This phone is a little quirky compared to the tytn, but it has some good points. I'll probably be using it until the X1 comes out. Good luck.

Now with all the VGA devices coming out, I would have thought someone would have converted the original HTC home to fit VGA. I know there is currently a version out there that works but it makes every so damn small. Imagine how the original HTC would look in VGA if it fit to the screen lke the QVGA version does.

More info...
Thanks dudes for all you're input.
Still not sure tho - the Touch Pro looks rather cool! And I guess it'll have proper VGA versions of the HTC software?!
Has anyone got any opinions on the 'joystick' control on the Eten X800 or X650 though? I'm still not convinced whether it'll be a real pain or not!
Cheers dudes!

Have you looked at the tosh g900?
This actually has the highest res screen on any windows mobile device (to my knowledge) at 800x480. Its gorgeous for browsing and looking at pictures/photo's etc. It can be a bit slow when rotating orientation but thats the only time.
The original firmware was VERY buggy and so it built up a reputation according to this - bear in mind though, it was brand new and early adoption should expect issues. This reputation is now unfounded imho. Since firmware 3.01 and above, its rock solid and I never have to reboot mine.
This is what I do on mine without any issues/crashes:
Today screen extra's -
HTC X-Button,
SPB Weather,
SPB Backup,
Rhinocode Launch Pro,
Corner-A PDA Status
Other apps installed and working -
Saman SMSDeliveryReceiptFix
Micromega MSS Converter
ZoomSMS
YouTube Player
OneNote (although, this wont pull notes FROM the PC but will push TOO the pc)
MS Voicecommand
Google Maps
Route66 (sadly, the only Satnav i've found to work correctly with its high res screen)
Oh something else this phone did first, afaik, was to have a USB hub in it! You wont believe how handy it is to plug in USB storage devices (right up to external 3.5" disks!) at work to move stuff around.
The fingerprint security/program launcher is excellent - wish more phones had it! I also use the phone constantly on 3g/hsdpa as a modem for my pc and browse the web loads. I've had to buy a 3000mamp battery which makes the phone a bit bulky but to be fair, i don't think there are many people who are as heavy users as me. I also have configured a mail2web push email and a couple of pop 3 accounts.
BUT I am getting rid for two reasons:
No built in GPS
camera is w*&k
I am waiting for the Samsung I900 Omnia which is released any day now here in England.

I had the eten M800 and the joystick was ok. It made it abit larger when in your pocket. Personally I like the joystick on the imate 8502. This joystick is the best I've used yet buty personally I like the 5-way pad over any joystick.

If screen resolution is a top priority, then take a look at Sony Xperia X1, it does have a physical keyboard but has a WVGA screen, thats 800 by 480. It's designed by HTC and marketed by Sony Ericsson, so best of both worlds.

and also not out until end of this year/early next year(?) .... continualy delayed product. By the time it comes out its going to be old. Compared to the G900 it offers very little extra and the G900 was out almost a year ago (and so has had all the bugs ironed out of it, something a brand new product will not be able to claim), specialy a Windows Mobile device.

you can also wait for the futur Toshiba G920 or G910

Sadly thats the case with a lot of phones. A great many smartphones out there have this issue. For example, my G900 has the Nvidia chipset in it but it aint used properly, and with an 800x480 screen, it would make a massive diference.
Why, oh why do they not give them drivers?

its not just phone company i remember the psp was like that as well...originally was a faster processor but they blocked it...off topic...anyways i seen a video of someone tapping into the graphic chip on the tytn ii maybe there is still hope...

Thanks for all the input on this.
In the end after much soul searching (well, phone searching, anyway!) I decided to go for the new Touch Diamond. Seems to fit what I'm after the most.
It's arriving tomorrow and I can't wait!!

Anyone try the Eten Glofiish X500

Has anyone tried the OS on the Glofiish X500.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5793.html
Actually I got this one, and have a few other qteks/ipaqs laying around too.
The screen used is the best screen I've seen in about 7 years of pda using.
Contrast is way higher and sharp, colours are rich.
The display has some colourbleeding though, if you switch from a dark screen to a light screen like the blue today screen you see a vague impression of some of the black parts of the previous screen.
I don't find it annoying at all, I hardly noticed it after a few days using.
It has an internal radio, but you got to use the headset in order to listen to it, the antenna is build into is.
This antenna isn't real sensitive, and the radio signal doesn't get pick up to well except if you use like 80% of it's length.
The device itself has realy been taken care of, aluminium details, rubber back, it a has a touch of quality to it.
You get a leather case with it which is brilliant, though I miss a beltclip on it.
You get many software on it, the best is the phone filter, which you let block certain phone numbers.
You get a battery bar too which is in the programm bar on top, at least they thought of it! But it lacks something like x-button, would have completed it.
Then you got image maker, which makes me think of paint from windows 3.11, no clue why it's there but oh well, did I say you can remove any of these single software pieces? what you don't use you can simply delete to free space So much for the extended roms of other phones of other brands.
Then there's a simple multimedia browser which let's you browse through directories and show pictures and sounds, not to bad either.
Plus there's some image wizard to add borders to pictures etc.
Then there's some mms software, which is pretty nice.
I already mentioned the call filter didn't I?
Then there are 4 profiles called "scenarios" software, it's nice but not real good, but at leat it let's you turn off the sound for a meeting.
Then there's some skype receivers switch which intergartes skype into the software, which is nice, and skype is installed too (which is 5mb and since I don't have a need for it I de-installed as first!)
Then there's some speed dial which is actually pretty nice, big buttons with name + number in it, actually use it a lot while driving.
Then there's some voice commander, though it's funny I never really used it.
The 2 mpx camera in it isn't to bad, one of the better I've seen in pocket pc's, but still it has a long way to go to be able to come close to nokia's (I'm jealous at the lenses they use in it! I really am)
The software for this camera is real good, nice big buttons for the functions and on teh case you got nice buttons to zoom, at exactly the right place.
Fron the back you can't tell if it's a pda or a camera actually!
All by all E-ten has by far the best quality I've ever seen in a pda, and the price is quite right too!
Here in the Netherlands it's only 30 euro more expensive than a htc 3300 which has about the same specs.
I wouldn't have a hard choise if I had ever to choose again between brands, E-ten is THE brand of choise for me.
Just to bad there's no E-ten x50 subforum here, really miss it.
If people want I could try to see if I can get into the extended rom and get all of these nice apps for you people.
Hi. iruja, I would like to try the eten call filtering and also the location sms sounds interesting.
How stable is the eten?
I was told the GPS is horribly slow to get a fix, can you confirm this?
I'll see if I can get into the extended rom later on.
In fact the e-ten is really stable, much more stable and more responsive than my overclocked wizard.
The gps gets turned on as soon as you start tomtom or igo, and I get a fix within 5 sec(!), being outside.
Inside the home it takes some longer, and the signal will drop from time to time to under 3 sattelites, but why would you want to navigate inside your own house anyway? (granted, maybe if you own a caste )
The gps is really sensitive and has no lag, my qtek with an external sirf III gps had a lag of about 30 meters, on my screen I would be before the turn while I was actually passed it, no such thing with the x500, could be because of the faster cpu I don't know, but both gps use the same chipset.
The only place I could think of you would get a bad signal would be around flats and high buildings, but even within Rotterdam I had no problems navigating.
In short, the gps works flawlessly for me, but can't speak for everyone.
[Edit]
The wizard solutions for unlocking the extended rom won't work on the x500, I'll try other stuff later today, maybe someone has a idea?
[/Edit]
I switched to Tytn after my X500 was repaired two times due to a faulty GPS chip. The motherboard was
replaced both times. It is a nice PDA, but has reliability and ergonomics issues. I' d suggest that you wait for X800 or X500+ , as they may be better thought out VGA devices.
I have also read that Eten will definitely be upgrading their phones to WM6 and will be providing new rom to existing users. Ya it would be great if their was a Eten subforum.
http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=8WBW0PBC
this should be the extended rom with call filter and other stuff in it

the x500 will be re-released as the x500+ soon and although identical in size it will have a VGA screen as well as WM6.
Hi iruja, just downloaded the ext.rom thank you.
I am trying some of the cabs now on my orbit, so hopefully I won't have to reset it too many times.
So far I've tried:
locationSMS, this seamed to work but when I got a GPS fix and hit send it hung for about 2 minutes and then notified me that my message could not be sent. So maybe I need a fix for that.
ScreenKB which I thought might be call screening, but that refused to install at all.
GPS Viewer which looks good and works well on the orbit.
Screen keyboard is a onscreen keyboard 2/3rd the size of the screen which allows you to quickly tap and send sms, quite nice.
Maybe some people can make an all device version of it? like o2 plus?
Have you tried message ease it looks really interesting. I will try it once I get my X500 in a week.
Well I'm just tapping with my fingers and I'm pretty fast with it, I like it better than the other thumb pads around I've seen/used so far.
Just bought one here's a pic.
Next check this will be my new device!! Like the specs, hope hardware issues wont hinder my ownership. I have wanted this device for a month, reading, rereading revues.. Hoping. Then I see pthomson's animated gif. Priceless, and here I sit speechless. Any one know the BEST price in USA?
I found
Item #: X500+
Price: $574.99
Any site better pm me plz
PS there is a forum @ eten for there device.
scarry post for me from yesterday
"Should add the memory leak problem...
Huge problem for me...
Philippe"
Any one else have memory leak issue? Just looking at the animated gif, that looks like a nice LOAD test device.
I have found a little memory loss but not bad at all. I purchased mine on ebay I have seen it sell for under 500.00.

E-Ten M800, a true HTC Kaiser killer? (Late November / Early December)

http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/08/e-tens-glofiish-m800-a-better-x800-with-qwerty/
VGA 640 x 480 + Built-in QWERTY Keyboard + all HTC Kaiser features
As we noted back in March, the only thing missing from E-Ten's quad-band GSM, UMTS/HSDPA, and GPS packing Glofiish X800 was the QWERTY. No more. Meet the Glofiish M800, ready to throw down with the best that HTC has to offer when it hits Europe in late November / early December for about €599 (nearly $850 pre-subsidy). For that you get all the best of the X800 -- WinMo 6 Professional on a VGA (480 x 640) touchscreen, SiRFstar III GPS, HSDPA data, standard 2.5-mm audio jack -- but with a beefier 500MHz processor and 1530mAh battery and new suit-tacular QWERTY in tow. Without a doubt, a worthy contender... on paper anyway.
PS: I am not sure about the RAM, it could be 64 MB which HTC Kaiser is the winner here.
hope this will be as good as its specs.
this might me by next new phone.
It seems that many sites are asking the same question
Take this one for example:
http://www.pollsb.com/polls/poll/2739/eten-glofiish-m800-htc-s-tytn-ii-contender
I hope this would inspire HTC to release a better phone, preferably a clamshell device. This just blows everything they have right now.
Any news on the camera's resolution?
---
IMHO, The specs are amazing on ETEN devices and the prices are actually pretty good but after using an HTC device it is hard to switch back to ETEN. I owned the ETEN M600 (Gave me trouble with the screen alignment) so I upgraded to a M600+ and used it for like a year. Then the M600+ got stolen so I upgraded to a Trinity, WOW what a world of difference. The build of the device is much better and the call quality is amazing compared to ETEN devices. So unless ETEN upgrades there standards then it will be a no go for me.
I heard that it's only 2MPix. And only 64MB RAM
Does the screen tilt? I doubt it or they would be shouting about it. May not seem like a huge issue, but it certainly adds a whole lot to the useability of the device, especially when it comes to using it to watch video, and especially if more than one person wants to watch.
Plus, the GPS on the Kaiser is better I think. It is A-GPS not GPS. I used to own a Sirfstar III GPS, and the Kaiser's seems better. Much faster fix too, but quite possibly integrated GPS with fastfix software would do the same thing for the M800 too.
The screen is a biggie though, I so wish the kaiser was VGA.
I hate the design though, looks cheap and nasty.
I had the X500+ which I sold recently. E-ten devices definitely give you the best bang for your bucks. But their support sucks, their device has a cheap-y feel to it, and their software is just not up to par. I loved the X500+, but with only 64MB of RAM, and all their crazy software that's a required install to get some of the features working, you end up with 15MB free after soft-reset. It was ridicules. I ended up running pure vanilla WM6 and it seemed little better.
I did hear about GPS failing here and there, but for me, at least the GPS was amazing. From my experience, all the A-GPS devices I've used tend to get quick fixes but lack in accuracy...and they tend to drift A LOT. X500+ had SiRF III, but it also had satellite info download function to help you fix really fast....best of both worlds basically.
From what I understand, E-ten's build quality is getting better each generation, so M800 might be something worth waiting for....as long as it has at least 128MB of RAM.
Since the X800, they've changed to another manufacturer, so we should see improved build quality. By the way the X800 is quite thin too, and I am guessing the M800 will be thinner than the Kaiser.
Hopefully I am getting the X800 in a week or so! (If the screen is transflective).

Actually, I believe the very reason they sped up the M800 into production was that they were ditching the X800.
also, processor wise we stil don't know which is faster. VGA drains a bit on graphics and battery, so I'm neutral on that. camera I heard is only 2MPix no AutoFocus. I also heard it's only 64 RAM, and not a chance in hell I'm getting 64RAM. besides, touchflo and tilting screen, despite my initial thoughts, actually helps usage.
For me 128 MB RAM is more important than a VGA though I would like to have both. In the present times when websites have become complicated and memory hog programs such Opera 8.65 I think there is no place for a 64 MB RAM device. I am already suffering 64 MB with my HTC Touch where I almost daily do a soft reset to get back my RAM otherwise some programs fail to run.

and others at HPC.ru
Yeap... comparison with its keyboardless, much better looking little brother.
I must say, I really really like the look of the X800 over the M800. Why didn't they just add a full keyboard to the x800?
WOW! A mind reader.
Haha the X800 has been delayed again...
What is it now? The 12th time its been delayed?
Maybe its like the iMate Ultimates... just vapourwares.
Inkino has 3 of X800 in stock today, if anyone is interested.

What does HTC have against a 3.5" VGA touchscreen with hardware video acceleration ?

What does HTC have against a 3.5" VGA touchscreen with hardware video acceleration ?
Aren't you tired of their tiny 2.8" QVGA screens with software video acceleration ?, how many years will they keep coming up with it and we'll keep buying it like hotcakes ?
Most of us would kill for a phone with the exact features that I've written in the subject line (on top of the current features of the Kaiser/Cruise) that runs Windows Mobile, yet HTC fails to deliver it.
Why ?
I mean, there is a huge market eagerly waiting for such phone (at *any* price), the technology is here for more than a year, so what's keeping them from making it ?
The Xperia is not the answer, since it's not a 3.5" screen, and according to current understanding it does not have hardware video acceleration (again!).
If any device that carries the name "Tytn" or "Touch" automatically gets a tiny 2.8" QVGA screen with software video acceleration, maybe it's time to ditch these names and come up with new family names for products that fit the technology state that we're in, and not the state that we were at 2005 !!!
so far, we already have the 3.5" VGA screen from the Universal...I would pay 700 € for a touch cruise with the screen of the universal!!!!
How can I use a touch screen if the icons are even difficult to select by stylus???
If only someone would have made bootcamp drivers for the new 3G iPhone, so it could run WM... I would have ditched HTC in a heartbeat.

Note that the iPhone will also receive Java support. The iPhone 2G (!) chipset itself, as I've already elaborated on it, has 3D HW acceleration; with a MIDlet manager supporting it, the platform can become a decent gaming platform.

as of yet it's only speculation what the final software platform of the Xperia will bring

not really no... i think its a good size for a wmphone. i had the wizard -> universal and i much prefered the design of the wizard so i upgraded imo from the universal -> hermes.
these are pda phones, not a portable entertainment center.
sure it would be cool to have a better video support, and 3.5" screen would probably be cool too, but way too big after you factor in the actual size of the device.
people want smaller phones and they probably don't see a huge demand for larger screens.. honestly, im happy with the touch screen size.. i wouldn't want it any bigger as the device would have to be twice as big.
not to mention bigger power consumption, etc..
what they need to do is make better batteries.. with the technology these days we should be able to go days without a charge..
they can send spacecrafts to the other side of the universe and have it orbit another world but they can't make better batteries.
anyway, i can go on and on....
"they can send spacecrafts to the other side of the universe"
no they cant they can barely send them to the other side of the solar system
"sure it would be cool to have a better video support, and 3.5" screen would probably be cool too, but way too big after you factor in the actual size of the device."
thats about the size of the iphone plenty of people want that for now anyway
"what they need to do is make better batteries"
agree'd not just for phones but laptops too

Raphael features a full QWERTY deal and is destined to replace the Mogul. The paperwork's pretty blurry, but it appears that this Windows Mobile device will feature WiFi, 3 megapixel cameras, and -- get this -- VGA displays. Goodness! The Raphael is currently lined up to be the first out of the gate, hitting the streets in September.
Its going to be launched under Sprint
Do a search on the flame. Thats everything that you have been asking for.
The Raphael still have the tiny 2.8" screen (why ???), and we don't know if it has hardware video acceleration.
The O2 XDA Flame is a wonderful device, and I considered it before purchasing the Kaiser, but it does not have GPS. The O2 XDA Flame with GPS (maybe minus several grams) would have been a wonderful device.

If sources are right then, your request for a large screen may just be answered by HTC with not an 3.5 but a 4inch, that right 4 inch, screen in the HTC Omni.
http://mobilitysite.com/2007/07/htc-omni-details-leaked/
But as people mentioned earlier in this thread, it's going to be big, and i'm not sure that's a good thing.

Shall we get the Raphael?

Checking in!
Just to share a thought. Looking back more than a year ago, I had to spend some good effort hunting for the TyTN 1 (Got the first available variant model Taiwan CHT9000). This year alot of decent phones came out, making decisions much harder to make. I guess it is good news...
The Raphael would be a dream keyboarded WM 6.1 micro SD device but since I currently own the HTC Diamond and Apple iPhone 3G. I have to double think before getting this. May be I will have the Diamond sold and get the Raphael.
The iPhone lacks AD2P Bluetooth which is a serious draw back. The battery is non swappable, no memory card (not really a big deal cos the itunes sync is much more reliable than Active Sync ).
Feel free to share your thoughts!
Wow, you really are a "PPC-Warrior" with all those devices :O.
drivers?
Shall we get the Raphael?
Mmm that depends of the performance of the gpu,
or presence of a graphic driver!
Does anybody has information about this issue?
Does it take SDHC or just regular microSD?
takes SDHC up to 32GB
I had a dream...
What about the famous HTC Dream. its been long roumered to be out before year ends. Would it be worth waiting for I wonder.
I have so been waiting for this device to hit the shelves. HTC should have had this thing available 2 weeks ago or at least made some noise about it. Imagine if people knew about this!!
Apple sold 1 million Iphones here in Australia in the first 3 days and you cant even type on the damn thing without having to constantly correct yourself if you have fingers bigger than what my 5 yr old has and the GPS cant speak directions, no messenger and list of draw backs goes on.
I'm just hanging for this thing to arrive.
Will the Raphael have the same diamond back as the ,uh, Diamond? I read somewhere that the diamond doesn't lay flat on the table. I also read somewhere that there will be an optional flat back. Any thoughts?
The T-mobile branded Raphael has a flat backcover...
I can't really think of any reason not to buy a Raphael. This looks like the perfect device for current standards. And I don't think it has any serious flaw, which kept me from buying other devices (like the video issue on Tytn II for example).
The Raphael looks indeed quite great to me, but I like the screen size of the Xperia. Would there be a reason not to go for the Xperia?
The only thing that's putting me off is the screen size. 2.8 inches really isn't very big, especially when you're used to the Universal and its wonderful 3.7 inch VGA screen.
The xperia 3 inch screen isn't much bigger than the touch pro, plus I prefer the touch pro styling. I also wonder if the xperia's WVGA screen will cause software compatability problems?

1. maybe software problems with that screen solution
2. no video out
3. probably no (or not a lot) support by the chefs and professionals in this community for that hardware...
4. no release date avaliable

I have read the keyboard is awful. Unless they improve it before releasing, which is highly unlikely because that would change the design, I wouldn't buy it, afterall the main reason for me to choose Pro instead of Diamond is the keyboard, which is considered excellent by some people who had a chance to use it.
thanks, your arguments make enough sense to reconsider my liking. I wish the Diamond Pro would have a 3' screen ;-)
I heard that X-Peria is going to be released only in oct end , so thats quite some time whereas Raphael is scheduled to be launched on aug 5th i guess.
I am eying on the Raphael.

the physical screen size of the X1 is only 0.2" than the Raphael...
A good reason not to go the X1 is the wonderful Xda-developers forum
Another is that it's a bit delay
Personally the perfect phone for me would be a Diamond with micro-sd card support and a 3.5" screen with VGA but I sold my prophet and I can't no longer wait for the perfect phone. So, the best for now is the Raphael...
P.S. - Samsung Omnia is also a no go for me cause it doesn't have a stylus...
Actually the omnia has a stylus which looks like lipsick lol, there's nowhere on the handset to store it thought.. picture below.

Sunlight readable?
I am pretty sure I want to get the Touch Pro over the Xperia X1 apart from one thing. The reviews of the Xperia say it's screen is readable under direct sunlight. People I know with the Diamond say it is not.
I've spent the last year with the Tosh G900. It also has the 800x480 like the Xperia but it can't be seen outside. I was thinking that all these small screen high res phones were unreadable in sunlight. Maybe there is a problem with transflective displays at this pixel density?
The Touch Pro has a lot of advantages over the X1, 5 rows of keys, TV out and 640x480 screen (this is better I now know after living with the 800x480 for year and finding loads of apps that wont work). But I like to use TomTom while cycling so sunlight readable would be quite a bonus...
This phone so nearly does everything that I've been waiting so many years for, apart from decent camera with optical zoom and OLED screen. Guess I'll have to wait a few more years before I'm completely happy!
actually the diamond is the first pda/phone i have that the light sensor really works, if there is too much sun he will increase the display light, for me it is quite readable ( better than x7500 for example )

Raphael Vs Xperia

Anyone done a comparison? That Xperia looks like it could be fabulous.
there is a bit here
http://smape.com/en/reviews//Sony_Ericsson_XPERIA_X1-prev.html
featurewise anyway
To my knowledge the Xperia isn't even out yet.
Also to US customers I hear that The Xperia isn't coming to AT&T, just to T-Mobile. I bet you could unlock it, but I think the 3G frequencies of AT&T and T-Mobs USA are different.
So if you have AT&T the Choice is clear...

Of course the main reason to get a Touch Pro is the keyboard, otherwise you'd be getting the smaller, sexier Diamond. So for a majority of TP buyers, keyboard = important.
First thing I thought when I saw the X1 was "ugh what a nasty uncomfortable looking keyboard". Most hands-on comparisons I've read pretty much confirm it.
So, the main reason to get a bulkier slider device is the keyboard, and it's keyboard is a failure. Of course, not everyone will be so fussy about the keyboard, but for me it knocked the X1 clean out of the race.
The Raphaels keboard is far better, and the Raphaels TF3D/Manila destroys Panels (although the fish were kinda cool ).

BTW, for anyone who doesn't know Russian,
"Дисплей:" means display.
Also, the Raphael has 288MB of RAM (32 of which are because of the chipset, which means the X1 may have it as well.)
Regarding the panels interface, I bet that will be ripped to other WinMo devices before you know it!!
Also I was thinking, is it really a proper interface or is just a bunch of background applications presented in that "panel" form, for example like the "expose" thing you get on a mac?
If so someone could create an app for all winmo device that "exposes" running apps into a panel view, you then tap the one you want to go to and it maximises/brings it to front...
amirite?

Since the very first leaked X1 ROMs, I've been attempting to port it to QVGA, but it doesn't work...
It's an Expose like task manager, but you can also have preset "Desktops".
The closest to getting tasks displayed as images ATM would be Roozbehs 3DAltTab.

LOL, nice jimmy
At this moment I got a TyTN II (Kaiser) in my pocket. Is the Touch Pro (Raphael) the continuator or is there coming a TyTN III?
The current price here in the Netherlands between the TyTN II and the Touch Pro is very small. Should the Omni the next generation TyTN -> TyTN III?
My decision is like follows:
I buy a Touch Pro if HTC manages to increase the 3G reception to a normal level before Xperia X1 is on sale. I'd prefer the Touch Pro mainly because of the better keyboard, but reception is even more important for me. Without reception a phone is a worthless piece of plastic.
If HTC fails on the Touch Pro and the Xperia X1 shows an acceptable reception, then I'll be still happy and buy the X1. I will tell myself that the more HW Keys, more LEDs and bigger screen (resolution) was worth it.
But if both fail I have to stick with my TyTN until the next generation is announced. (...and I really want a new toy! (NOW!))
Side by Side Comparison
Found this comparison on smape also...

The TouchPro also has TV-OUT, though cable not included

The Touch Pro (Raphael) is the successor to TyTN II (Kaiser), so you could say that it is the "TyTN III". Nobody knows whether HTC will make a TyTN III later of course, but in that case it would be the successor to the Raphael, so such a naming scheme makes little sense.
I really had a hard time deciding between the Xperia and the Touch Pro, but i finally decided to get the Touch pro because
- the mainstream screen resolution: more likely that most apps will work with it
- a little smaller in size
- keyboard with arrows (i use them a lot)
- no release date for Xperia yet (alltough i think that would change fast now), and my tytn was dying
- TV out
- TF3D looks really slick
- A lot more support for the Touch Pro on this forum
The only advantage of the Xperia over the touch pro were the metal finish (alltough im very pleased with the looks of the Touch pro, it looks better in real life then on photo, and my gf thinks it's a very sexy phone) and the bigger screen.

Probably have abandoned the TyTN series now i think, the TyTN II was released before the Touch, Touch cruise etc... More likely they will carry on the touch branding or start a new series?

true, it does... but... how long will we in the modifications community leave the X1 alone? not long, me thinks. The X1 will have TF3D/Manilla available within the first few weeks of its release, which will run in one of the 9 panels (lets see the iphone do that!), and then the only shortfall will of course be the keyboard and tv-out, which you can't upgrade. but the X1 is a much sexier phone... >sigh< well KRAP! I guess I'll just have to buy one of each
ouch Pro vs. Xperia

The keyboard is one of the features, (agree, the Toch Pro seem to have the better one) but the overall use should make the decission. The complete UMTS band and all 4 GMS break the choice. Travelling with the Touch Pro will be difficult without the bandwith. Will see when both US Versions will be available.
Will X1 be supported by XDA-Developers?
A question for senior members/moderators: Since the X1 will be manufactured by HTC, will it be supported here on xda-developers.com in the forum and wiki area? If it were, that may sway some decisions in its favor. (truthfully, i'm having a hard time deciding)
Thanks in advance...
I was going back and forth on both devices but finally decided to take Touch Pro for some reasons:
- "real" HTC devices has a very big community
- Touch Pro has a light sensor
- Touch Pro has a g-sensor
- it is as small as an Magician
- it is going to be released soon (SE actually has not)
