Please help, my 8525 is faster then my tilt.... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

ok i have two phones, the att 8525 with tnt rom on it, and i gotta att tilt with dutty's latest rom. i use the internet sharing a lot, and for some reason my 8525 is waaay faster then my tilt, can anyone help me solve this issue???
i was gonna search for a solution, but i wouldnt know exactly what words to use to find exactly what im looking for, someone please help me.

well then that makes 2 of us that dont know what your looking for. You havent given a very thorough explanation of the problem you are looking to solve...

ok, what i mean is that, for some reason, when i connect my cingular 8525 to my laptop for internet sharing, the speed of the connection is as fast as dsl, and when i connect my att tilt and i use the internet sharing, the speed of the connection is as slow as dial up.

do they each have a different sim card in then or are you swapping them? is the proxy enabled or disabled? what network do they indicate (i.e. E, 3G, H)? are they both in the same location when testing, etc....
if you want more help give as much info as possible...

different sim cards, att tilt connects to MEdia net, and yes they both in the same locations the att tilt has the 3g simbol and the att 8525 has the H simbol, but only when im on the internet sharing, when i disconnect it it goes back to 3g

so already you have several different variables that could be causing it. first is the difference from 3G to H. if the tilt isnt truly picking up H then your not going to be even anywhere close in speeds. 2nd you might be slowed down by different data connections, etc.. i would also try swapping sim cards and try each phone out to see if you get the same results. also the radio that is on the tilt could be causing issues also. Some radios have faster speeds whereas others do not, etc... There is probably not going to be 1 magical answer here to solve your problem.

so is there a way that i can make my tilt pick up that H? or if you know, what rom or radio do you reccomend me for that.
i want a rom and radio that i can share my fast internet connection with my laptop, and that also has the gps

search for an app called KaiserTweak.
And radios performance seem to vary depending on your location.. so just because one radio works for me doesnt mean its going to work for you. The best thing i can suggest is to just experiment till you find your sweet spot.

you definately need to enable your H... if that doesnt' work try a different radio.

ok, imma find that app, but quick question, what other rom can i use other then dutty's? i dont think im liking it too much

Phone OK, no data. PLS HELP IF YOU CAN.

OK, so this sucks.
I have done my due diligence, but to no avail. Here is the situation:
Yesterday: Phone OK (14.09), data OK. Running: ATT Tilt with Q-Mobile 1.2
Today: Flashed Alex v5 Lite. Phone OK (14.09), No data.
Symptom: Attempt to do anything data (e.g., use PIE). I get the normal connecting to Media NET popup...TWICE. Then I get the Cannot Connect "for unknown reason" message.
What I have done so far:
1. Searched xda for similar situation. Did not find any exact matches. Lots of radio and sound issues, but no data.
2. Tried Alex v5 Clean ROM. Same issue.
3. Tried ATT AKU 0.4.4 ROM. Same issue
4. Went back to Q-Moblie 1.2 (14.09 radio). Same issue.
....you see a theme here....
5. Tried Dutty v4 RTM with 12.17 radio. Same issue.
So basically my data is hosed. Is there some advanced setting (for the device, not OS) that I can check?
I really need some help here. Otherwise, I need to reflash the orig ROM and SPL, and go wait for hours at the stinking ATT store.
EDIT: Just heard about some 3G issues today. Maybe that is it. I sure hope it is as simple as ATT network and not my device!!!!
Thanks much in advance.
OK, I switched from 3G to Edge and same issue. Bummer.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks again.
EDIT: And FWIW, I can connect to internet when connected thru ActiveSync....which probably means nothing.

have u disabled proxy.
I'm using 1.27.12.32 with Dutty's v4 RTM and both 3G and Edge are working for me.
I would suggest calling AT&T and ask them verify your data settings on their end aren't screwed up.
When I first got my Tilt in October, I lost my data access because of an issue on the account side. The same error message you are getting. All they had to do was send a "ping" of sorts to my phone, and its been fine since.

Yup you heard it right, it's probably the cause of your problem. Which state are you in? In VA data/3G/phone's working fine though.
Try installing this CAB soft reset and try connecting to the internet

Thanks all for the great responses. I will likely try each of them in turn.
I did call AT&T and apparently there are at least 22 states affected by some form of outage (specifically Media.Net). My state (Colorado) was not on the official list, but the support person said that new states were being added as time goes by.
So this is "likely" the issue. 22 states...that is pretty major!
Anyway, again thanks to all who offered help. This site/community is one of the best things since ....well, you know. Anyway, I hope I can return the favor sometime.
If you're AT&T you need have the proxy & the right user agent settings to connect to MediaNet.
You need to disable to connect to internet through Activesync.
Try running the Restore Proxy cab in Windows or in Programs/tools/proxy.

Yep, I would say that is it. I like that first posters comment:
"skynet is online" Apparently it became self aware around 7am my time. which as (bad) luck would have it is right about the time I flashed a new ROM. Scared the heck out of me.
just tried media net in Colorado and it does not work, was working fine last night and this morning... just tried isp.cingular does not work ether.
called att they are giving me a 2$ credit. everyone who has outage should call and get there 2 $ back :0)
Data was restored in Chicago about 30-45 min ago.

Man, I must have picked the worst time to flash my AT&T tilt! This is the first time in years I've flashed one of my phones (Duttys v4) and now my 3G doesn't work! I'm in Denver Co and my Edge connection works ok. I think it is an AT&T issue because my 3G was a little flakey before I flashed.
Looks like 3G is back up for me in Denver.

WM6 Upgrade now No signal Radio bad?

I have tried several radio roms to try and fix the problem but I always get the icon looking for a signal never detects GPRS or any signal does this mean I have a bad radio? I have the PN Antenna,AFM50-000015,ACON where can I get one? Any help would be great!
Do you get normal phone coverage? If so, have you set up GPRS correctly for your network?

Thanks for the reply, Not sure if I have the GPRS settings correct, went through all of them and changed some things, let the device sit for hours but still no signal.. I'm lost
Does the SIM work in other cellphones?
Cuz I have a SIM here that's expired and all it does when popped into any phone is try search for signal which it doesn't find any of course.
Had same issue...
AT&T/Cingular USA primarily uses 850MHz signal; 1900MHz is concentrated in larger cities. However, T-Mobile uses 1900MHz...You may have to switch. I had the same problem and found T-Mobile as my solution. I Hope this helps...

HTC Touch Pro/AT&T Fuze with Fido

Hey everyone,
I got an AT&T Fuze (Touch Pro) and Im using it on Fido in Canada. My data is working perfectly fine, my only issue is that my phone keeps switching from 3G to H every once in a while, I was just wondering why and whats the reason for that?
Also, I have a little exclamation mark (in a yellow triangle) in the top right hand corner right beside the 3G/H/E Icon. I don't know why thats there?
Thanks to all for the help!
No, that's neither yours nor your phone issues. Once you' re in the better speed coverage, the phone will jump to H or your phone is accessing the internet.
"little exclamation mark" is a "roaming" indicator.
Heres the thing, it jumps back and forth while even accessing/using data.
Is there anyway to get rid of the exclamation mark?
have you flashed the rom?
I would be interested in how to get rid of the roaming icon too.
I have tried all the registry changes to no avail. The icon, and roaming warnings for things like the weather app, remain. It's about the last thing I need to fix but I seem to be stuck.
Im using RRE's ROM. So far it seems to have fixed itself, but now Im having more issues. I wonder if I should flash to a different ROM.
Hi guys,
I have a somewhat related problem and I hope someone can help me out. I just recently bought an unlocked HTC Touch Pro (not the Fuze version) and I am using it with my Fido sim card. Everything works and I was able to setup EDGE on it, but what bothers me is it keeps saying that I am roaming (for example when I access the Weather app). I am wondering if this is just some sort of a glitch due to the phone being unlocked or am I really roaming? I also get that roaming icon at the top. I am located in Vancouver so I am not out of town or anything. I just want to make sure so I don't end up having a crazy invoice by the end of the month. Thanks very much in advance.

It's because Fido uses Roger's towers now, but the companies are still identified separately and therefore it thinks you're roaming. As long as you have a data plan, you should be ok.
PS. Depending where in Vancouver you are, you should be getting at least 3G (3G), or hopefully HSDPA (H), vs Edge (E).

xda_fanboy, thank you very much for the helpful information. I can finally stop worrying. I do have a data plan with Fido so that should do. However, this is the second day of using the Touch Pro and the only data network I get is Edge. The only setup I did to my phone is what is listed in http://www.iday.ca/2008/11/how-to-setup-rogers-or-fido.html, under the Fido section. Would you mind taking a look and see if that is all that I need to do? I really appreciate all your help. Thanks again.

I also have this phone and live in Vancouver on Fido. I don't think it will work on 3G, or so it seems. Mine is not the ATT version either, just the stock HTC. Currently it runs fine on the standard network, although as mentioned i have not been able to get rid of the roaming icon, but have never been charged extra. Its too bad we can't use it on 3G, and if any can find a way, that would be awesome, id love to be using the full potential of this phone.
I think we are stuck with no 3G, unless there are any suggestions?
If your not using the AT&T Fuze, then you won't have 3G in North America. Don't worry about the roaming icon. Since the phone (or is it the software?) has no idea that Fido uses Rogers' towers, it thinks your roaming. I have the roaming icon as well, had it on many non-branded Fido phones.
I turned off 3G because I hate seeing my icon go to 3G then H at random times besides when Im using actual data and it seems that with 3G, I get worse reception! Makes no sense I know, I've tried 3 different radio's and all have the same issue. Im thinking if an HTC Touch Diamond Rogers branded Radio will work, then that would probably work the best. Anybody know if/where I can get it?

If you bought a stock HTC Touch Pro (non-ATT, non-North American) then you won't have the NA 3G radio frequency and you're stuck with Edge.
Regarding a ROM, head over to the ROM sub-forum. There's a step-by-step guide on flashing your first ROM. As far as which ROM is best, it depends entirely on what you want from it, and even then varies by personal choice from person to person. There is no 1 "best" ROM. Check out all the ROM threads (there's a Roger's specific ROM available FYI) and pick one based on what you like.

This thread was specifically for Fido, a Canadian carrier. I have no knowledge of the settings you will require for your carrier in LA, which is the most likely reason you are not getting 3G. I would try contacting them if you haven't already. Otherwise try and find a thread for your carrier, or perhaps check HF (not sure if we can post URL's to other sites). Good luck!

New ADP 1.5 Radio

Anyone having great gains with this radio? I am gettin better reception in my office (any) where I used to get none!
Had it on for about an hour now, not seen it drop below 2 bars yet. Usually I lose service quite often. Looking forward to trying it at work tomorrow where I get extremely poor signal.
Still flickers between G and 3G though.

and to stay on topic, ive got and flashed the new radio yet but havent really noticed any improvements, might just have to go swing by my buddys apartment, never get service in there. must be lined with lead or some $%!^...
Tested out this version the day it came out and i must say the sapphire radio is much better in many ways. Not only does it extend your battery life way more than the ota radio, it also has great service. The ota radio says your on 3g like 90 percent of the time even though you're running on edge, so i guess this might be a bug in that radio. All in all the sapphire radio is the best way to go.
I also think i am getting better reception with the new radio. However my battery life has gotten much worse. I dont even make it a full day without charging and was getting at least 1.5 days before. If it is not the radio causing this the only other possible cause is the calendar widget being on the home page.

ROMS & Radios?

AT&T customer, midwest United States here. I live in a fringe area, but have always been able to get reception.... until I rooted and started running custom ROMS. It seems some ROMS, for whatever reason, get better radio reception than others.
I tried Viper, and while it was the best for reception, there were a lot of things that gave me trouble and I couldnt live with.
The CM ROMS wont even think about getting reception for me, unless the mobile data is turned on, and then are very erratic. I leave the data turned off when at home due to it always looking and searching and killing my battery. Well, that, and I always use wifi at home. I even tried the newer 3.18 AT&T radio, but it didnt help
Any suggestions as to a ROM that is known for reception? Or a specific AT&T Radio that is better for reception? While I knew different ROMS had different good/bad points... I didnt know the reception was on of those things.
Thanks

There sure is a big difference for some reason, with me anyway. The only 2 radios I have found in the Radio thread for AT&T without the RIL (senseless ROMS) is the 2.20 and 3.18 radios. I have bounced back and forth between them, and not seen any difference to speak of. The 3.18 seems to be the more erratic of the 2, for me anyway

Thanks

My advice would be to try a different radio until you get one that works for you. I work out of state so I have to change settings to wcdma only to make them work in the area. I use the 3.18 radios on both CM and Sense because they work best in my home area. Viper is based on 3.17.661.2 so AT&T 2.20 may be the best option to try.
I use 2.41 seems 80% of the others I've tried plain suck in my area

When flashing radios for CM, also be sure that you are flashing the ones designated strictly for CM as the radio fw is kept in another partition than sense. I've never had an issue finding a radio that works for me. They don't all work well but at least 1 always does. When looking for the best radio, I download them all, test them one at a time, marking the signal strength and speedtest results for each and then flash back to the radio that gave me the best results.

Yeah, changing to WCDMA helped a little, but not much

Im getting the radios out of the radio thread here on XDA. I am d/l the radios in the lower section, for CM. I didnt try a different radio when using Viper, because it was useless seeing as I had so many other issues. I wasnt aware I could use Vodaphone or Telstra radios, on AT&T. I had only tried the 2 AT&T radios. My bad, I will try the others.thanks for the info guys. The speed tests are a moot point for me. As I said, i am in a fringe area. I cant judge anything based on data speed, and leave data turned off most of the time. Im not worried about data speed, or trying to fix anything in that area. Im trying to get my phone to get good enough reception to make/receive calls dependably and send/receive texts dependably. Sorry if there was some confusion over this.
Honestly, I would have stuck with Viper, but my wifi wouldnt work, and I couldnt even get my contacts and calendar imported from my Google account. In fact, there wasnt even a Sync option for contacts. So that was a no go.
Thanks again
The 2.41 he mentioned is not a ROM mate it's a radio.

Yeah it's sense based.I run viper most of the time. That's odd what viper version were you running? I'm on my WiFi now and try to not use data connection at home being I have straight talk and had my speed throttled to almost nothing last 2 months. It have have been a bad download

Try 2.40 radio, I get the best reception down here in Texas with it, especially when I go to the lease.

Ok, I tried just about every radio in my CM ROM, to no avail. Then, on a whim, I ticked "2G Networks Only", and now I have decent phone signal/reception. This sucks though.... to have my data connection have such an affect on my voice signal. I had always left my data turned off when at home, due to being in a fringe area, and it always bouncing around and killing my battery. That, and I always use wifi at home. Now, I have to leave my data turned on, and in 2G mode... just to be able to make a call. Rather silly to me.
Thanks to everyone who offered to help... MUCH appreciated
P.S. when it was said and done, I think I wound up back on the stock radio for Cory's CM ROM (2.20?)

What does your signal do if you have 2g clicked and then turn on wifi

signal remains the same... around -87/13, but the Edge "E" icon, disappears from the screen. So, no real difference that I can tell.
It just amazes me that my data connection/type/settings can ruin my voice reception. Hopefully, its going to work decently now.
Good luck with it

thank you! so far, so good! As long as I leave the phone in 2G only, my signal is great. Well, great for my area anyway lol.
With VoLTE being so far out yet, and AT&T not having true 4G, and voice/data being on 2 different frequencies.... how in the world is this happening on this phone? How can enabling/disabling data/4G/2G have such an affect on the voice/text signal? I just cant wrap my mind around this

I'm no expert by any means but if I were to take a guess, I would say it may be due to limitations of towers that are closer to you? IE: closer towers provide 2G signal but have not been updated to support 4G? and the towers that support 4G are further from you?
Like I said, I'm no expert, I'm merely taking an educated guess based on what I do know about the technology.

Actually, I dont know either, but that does make sense. If the phone is in 4G mode, then ti will try to connect to a 4G tower, which could be further away. But, there were times I had a great signal with 4G enabled, but it was in H, or H+.... and wouldnt make a call.
Im just happy I found how to get a decent... steady signal. I love the HOX, and I love the CM ROM... but I was ready to pull my hair out with this lol.
Thanks for the input, I may ask someone at the local store next time Im in. There is one kid in there, that is pretty knowledgeable. I think the rest of them know less than I do lol
Well, I spoke too soon. Now I have good reception, but the quality of my connection SUCKS! I have flashed and tried every radio for CM, and while I have a good signal now (around -85/13) my call quality is terrible and are all fuzzy and fade in and out.
I dunno, Im thinking seriously about going back to stock. I love the idea of having control over my own phone, but Im not in this as a hobby. I just want things to work right. Every ROM I have tried has had one issue or another.... wifi connection issues, wifi going to sleep when it shoudlnt, bluetooth connection problems, a dozen apps starting by themselves, radio/reception issues. Its to the point its just not worth it to me. I dont like having to work on anything every day, and if I do, I feel something needs to change in the situation, if that is the case. Dont get me wrong, Im not slamming any developers, or their projects.
When I was younger, I was always the first to get one of the Celeron CPU's and OC the snot out of it. As I got older, I thought... why? Ill just spend and extra $20 and buy the faster CPU so it is more stable, and not have to mess with anything. Thats sort of how I feel now
