crap Copilot live 7 on xda orbit2 - General Topics

Hi, i used my copilot while navigating to a destination today and i was really disappointed with it. for starters it keeps warning that safety camera ahead even when there is no camera ahead 4 miles. 2nd problem is, it took me to no entry roads once, and kept saying turn around even i was going in a right direction. i really like the map animation etc on copilot 7 but other wise its a **** software.
does some one else had same problem with their copilot 7 or its just something wrong with my pda?
regards

1. The speed camera database is updated monthly. It can be downloaded from Copilot for free.
2. The map shipped with Orbit 2 is a 2007 version, i.e. pretty old.
If you use old data, every sat nav app is going to perform "****" as you put it.

thanks for ur reply
cheers, i try and update my copilot 7 see if that improves it......

TomTom Navigator problems

I have installed TomTom and tried almost every version that can be found on XDA but for some reason i get an error when i try to calculate a route. Every time i get an error message like "Fault calculating route". As i said, i have tried so many versions and even the one that was provided on the disks that came with my Cruise (Polaris) but i get always this error. Any suggestions?

After a few days, I had the same problem without changing anything! I also tried to install other TT versions but it didnt work.
My solution was, delete the map (in my case Benelux, NL + BE) and put a clean or other map back. After that it worked well! I hope this will help you! GL!
Good morning. May not be the answer your looking for, and it's not without it's own problems (you've been warned), but I'll mention it in case your interested.
I got my first color cell / pocket pc when Sprint finally released the PPC-6601. It had a LOT of problems, the biggest of which was it would loose ALL installed programs and data if the battery was removed. And since the device had TERRIBLE battery life, I bought an extended battery that wasn't quite perfect. HOWEVER, I did buy a piece of software for that device that has been a STAPLE on EVERY phone / pocket pc I've owned since... iGuidance.
Now, I'll freely admit I've never owned a Tom Tom device. Looked at them in the stores, played with them a little, but never really was that interested. Recently I tried a Garmin app on the BlackJack II I bought when my AT&T 8525 died. I guess it was ok, but I wasn't really happy with the interface or functionality, and THAT'S why I decided to spend the bigger bucks on the Touch Cruise.
Simply put, iGuidance is the best GPS software I've used. The route calculations are spot on, it adapts quicker than other apps when you miss a turn, etc. It gives you turn-by-turn directions including street names. And I believe it's tne best program for the money. I started with 2.1, went to 3, and now run version 4 on my Touch Cruise. It was somewhat confusing to setup, as you end up dragging an entire folder directly to your memory card. But with that 1.3GB or so transfer, you move the ENTIRE US to your pocket PC. No more moving a couple states, but what happens if you need to go somewhere you forgot to load maps for, etc.
Anyway, you might want to give it a look. Whether using an external BT GPS with my older phone, or installing GPSGate on my HTC Touch Cruise so iGuidance will work properly with the built-in GPS... it really is the only program I'd recommend.
Good luck!
see ur PM........

well, here in europe it works perfect.
u can try IGO but i dont know if they have us maps
Hey folks, I actually came across this thread by searching "tomtom sucks" in google, after being screwed once again by this *****.
Another thing that I found within the same search is reference to the Garmin navigation software, which I did not try yet but prospects are quite promising, including free traffic info via TMC and free map updates.
So my suggestion is to try that.

Sygic Maps 10 & Android 2.1

Hi All,
I recently purchased a HTC Desire, and then also purchased Sygic Mobile Maps 10 - but alas, it's not letting me open the app. It opens, goes to black screen, then returns me back to my home screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Have you contacted Sygic support?
They must help you for paying customer.

I know this might not help but works fine for me...
You did install the maps from the PC and sync'd the device with the software...
Yay! I got it working. Thanks guys for all the help. I just started a fresh, dumped files on the card, installed the software and it works a treat!
Thanks again.
Same problem
Hi -
I just downed my 2 gig update to version10 file.
But I have the same problem after installation.
I mailed Sygic, but maybe you could tell me what you did ?
I have the exact same error.
Under the installation it did not ask me to remove maps -
So I did this by unselection in sync app.
Then install maps again.
And last installed app manually.
BTW im on the newly Android 2.1
Please advice

i'm torn between sygic and ndrive, since they are both paid apps, I want to be sure I make the right decision. any comments between the two? I tried ndrive for 7 days trial, while it works, the route calculation is not very good and the features are very basic.
I can't try sygic since they do not have trial..

I strongly recommend Sygic. I have NDRive (V9) pre-installed on a PDA, and I found that it has many shortcomings. Just to name a few:
- Its navigation instructions are not clear. For example, when it tells you "keep right", that may just mean that you should take the rightmost lane and proceed forward, but it may also mean that you should turn right to another road. The only way to tell is to look at the display. Furthermore, in some junctions it simply doesn't give any instruction at all.
- Its routing is not very good. I've seen it make various silly mistakes.
- There's no way to tell it to navigate to a point that you indicate on the map. You first have to create a favorite, and then tell it to navigate to it.
- The map of Portugal has many errors. While other maps are from Teleatlas, the Portuguese map is from InfoPortugal and is much less accurate. This is somewhat silly, because the software is Portuguese and I guess that Portugal is their main market.
I've had the opportunity to try Sygic version 7 (it was called McGuider, then), and that version was much better than NDrive V9. Sygic is now at version 10, which should be even better.
blank sygic
You must close your network, it' work for me.

Copilot live 8 usa

Does anyone on here use COPILOT LIVE 8 USA? I have some issues and I wonder if anyone else can add some comments as to how to resolve? I have sent these to COPILOT SUPPORT but no response yet.. I am hoping to get all of these resolved:
1. I am alerted that I am at my destination BEFORE I actually get there. It also doesn’t tell me LEFT or right or ahead is my destination. Can this be resolved?
2. I tested 2 addresses today with COPILOT and a GARMIN GPS. The Garmin was dead on while COPILOT was lost and had be going in circles. This was while I was in a development with a LOT of little side streets. Can this be fixed?
3. when you get to your destination, it doesn’t give you the option to CLEAR the route. It asks me what I want to do but if I close the BOX, since I don’t want to do any of that, it keeps the route I am on. I noticed this as I use COPILOT to get home. Then today, I turned on copilot and it still said it was running the route to my house. I couldn’t find any way to clear it except to delete next stop. Then it cleared the route. I also see no way to click CANCEL ROUTE if you decide you don’t want to navigate to where you set. My Garmin has an "X" that I can hit to cancel route.
4. Program is missing a LOT of POI's .. For instance, I was sitting in a parking lot of WAL-MART which has been there for many years. It didn’t know this Wal-Mart existed. It did know about other ones nearby but not this one. Same with TARGET, I was sitting in a target parking lot and it didn’t know target was there.
5. Routing is wrong on some trips.. Sometimes it will tell me to turn left when you can't or when LEFT is the completely wrong way to go. How to fix?
6. I entered in SPEED TRAP DATA but it NEVER alerts me to any of them. I said YES to the fact I was importing SPEED TRAP data but it never did anything.. MEANWHILE, my Garmin did alert me.
7. It would be nice if I could pull addresses out of my EVO 4G address book so I don’t have to re-type them in and also if you could do voice entry of the data Like GOOGLE and SPRINT navigation already do.
8. It appears the maps are SEVERAL YEARS out of date. How do I get updated maps?
9. If I want to select a POI to travel to... I select the category, then pick my POI or type in the name.. Lets say WALMART. Then I find the walmart but then decide that wasn’t what I wanted. I then hit my back arrow on my phone and select a different category or maybe just type in a different name of a POI. When I then search for the new one, it brings me to the orig category and POI and NOT the new one. I have to completely back out back the main screen of copilot and then start over with finding a POI. I have to do this every time..
I hope someone can help resolve these issues... Thanks...
1. CoPilot alerts you with an audible alert slightly before the exact destination. I don't know why. But there is no fix for it, as I doubt they consider it a problem. CoPilot does not tell you that the destination is on the left or right. If you look closely on the map though for the destination flag, it will be drawn on the left or right side of the road. You can tell from that.
2. Read the review in the Android Market and Apple App Store for ALK's products in the US. ALK' maps are notoriously bad and out of date. They try and do their maps in-house instead of buying them from Navteq or TeleAtlas. As a result, customers suffer, but you also pay less.
3. ALK has known about this issue for a LONG time. I personally have sent the issue to them a year ago. The only way to cancel the route is to select the "remove next waypoint" option, or something to that effect, don't recall the exact name.
4. Same issue as the maps. They are bad. Try using the Google Search instead of the POI search within the app.
5. Buy a different app. The maps are bad, these are the repercussions of that.
6. Traffic camera alert functionality works. I have used it in the past. Don't say what you did wrong, but that function does work.
7. Don't hold your breath.
8. You don't. The maps are what they are. You can submit errors and they will correct them within 45 days supposedly. But when you are starting with maps as bad as they are, you'd be submitting problems every time you use the product.
9. Can't help you with that one.

Thanks. Is there any app like copilot live usa that works? I love the features of copilot over google and sprint navigation. actually it would be nice if I could find and app similar to copilot and my garmin rolled into one.
Sent from my EVO4G using Tapatalk.
What about the navigon app?
edit- apparently navigon is also bad. is there any good paid navigation app?
Sent from my EVO4G using Tapatalk.
I wouldn't say that Navigon is bad. It is just very v1.0 as far as features goes. Biggest issue is that there is no app2sd. It is Navteq data so it is as good as it gets from that perspective. They have yet to announce a map update policy either.

Does it work in USA? I dont see USA maps talked abut on their site..
Yes, Navigon has a US app.
tried Navigon and it stinks. WHILE the maps and routing is better and traffic seems to be included, its missing a lot of things that copilot does.. the POI icons on navigon and the map as so small you cant read anything while driving. AND in 3D mode, there are NO STREET NAMES. You also can not see a list of directions so you do not know what route is is taking you on. It DOES have some nice features though, but NOT at $61.00 .. My issue now, is trying to get a refund since it took almost 2 hours to download maps which is more then the 15 minute time limit. In fact, once I tested the program for 10 minutes driving I decided COPILOT, even with some of its flaws is better ... M probably have to call credit card company to get refund...
is there ANY program that is worthy of buying for a navigation program? or do I stick to my old garmin?
Your main options are Google Navigation, CoPilot, Navigon or Sprint Navigation. I've used them all. I also have a Garmin 885t and a TomTom 740 Live. I've owned about 6 other devices over the years. I can tell you that Google Navigation is my primary GPS at this point. I like it a lot. I miss nothing from my Garmin. I only miss the ability to detour specific segments of the route from TomTom. I miss nothing from Sprint Navigation. I deleted Navigon. It took way too much room and didn't have app2sd. I have CoPilot installed as a backup should I not have a connection to use Google Navigation. I will remove it and reinstall Navigon if it ever gets app2sd.
im rooted so I was able to put NAVIGON on the SD card. I just dont like some things, which I mentioned. Im actually trying another program that has a 7 day trial and is free from the market for the trial. Its called AURA. it says it uses the latest TOM TOM MAPS.. I ASSUME they are up to date. it also has traffic and other stuff.. Looks good on the web sites BUT I havent tested it yet as I am downloading some of the maps. this program also supports APP2SD without the trick I did for navigon..
so I am playing with AURA but It appears it doesnt speak street names.. thats a deal breaker... I have a support request in to see if it actually does this. I hope it does. it is one heck of a nice program... IM using the USA version
EDIT: Looks like it doesnt speak street names.. I have a support question to ask about this. This program would be AWESOME if it did. its got the NEWEST TOM TOM MAPS and it does almost everything I want. the NON SPEAKING STREET NAMES is a DEAL BREAKER.. I hope they answer my question and fix that issue...

[Q] how many turn-by-turn navigation apps are in the marketplace?

Hi dear,
I really really like the simplicity of Windows Phone so I had used Omnia 7 2 months ago. But right now white iPhone 4 is in my hand because of some lack of features.
Especially, the navigation app. I drive to see my gf every weekend and I need any navigation to go somewhere in her town.(I live in Auckland in New Zealand.)
So, I just want to know if there are some quality navigation apps (want data free app) in the marketplace. When I was using Omnia 7, there was A-to-B but it wasn't impressive me at all.
Please let me know some good apps guys
I want to change to WP7 device(cos mango device hasn't announced yet, i'll just get 1st gen device) from iPhone 4.
I prefer the fantastic UI of WP OS
and if you are using Omnia 7, please let me know how to update to Mango Beta2.
I'll probably get Omnia 7 again as its design is just what I want(even though the back is ugly) and the screen is amazingly black.
GPSTuner Turn-by-Turn seems to be the best and is $4.99
Drive On is decent, but it's only beta and may get better with updates.
GPS Voice Navigation
aSPASS
...and a few others.
there is also navigon, however it is expensive
Also GPSTuner is 35€ for Italian maps. However i tried the trial and zooming the map is more laggy than with online maps.
The question was asked a while ago I noticed!
I to am using the GPStuner TurnbyTurn and found it one of the best ones for WP7 so far. It does allow you to download maps so that its not downloading them on the fly, but still needs a data connection to calculate the route. So if you miss a turn mid way and it needs to recalculate it will need an active data connection to complete the recalculation.
Navigon doesn't require data connection for recalculations.

S2U2 For Android... Need Appointment Notification.

Ive looked for a ported version of S2U2 for Android but no luck. What I need is the appointment notification for my calendar. Is there a widget that will do this?

With widget locker, a paid app, you can put your calendar (or any) widget on the lock screen. I bought it but not using it. It has seemed a little buggy for me.
Disclaimer: This is not advice. It is just something that fell from between my ears.

Thanks for the heads up. If S2U2 would port it, I would buy it. Hope there listening.
Sent them an e-mail a year ago. Never got a response. Android has it's advantages but there are still some things I miss from WinMo.

I also tried a few days ago, but have not heard back.
Even though I have an Inspire Im still on my Tilt-2.
Here's why,
1, S2U2
2, Garmin XT. (no broadband required)
I use my T2 mainly for business, I need the appointment notification on my locked screen, and my G-XT. If I can get both of those going on Android I would switch.
Yeah, there are things WinMo did that I still haven't found an Android app or setting to replace. Only been a year though, was on WinMo longer. Still get a kick out of my Stewie voiced Garmin whenever I fire it up on my eXpo.
Sent using the power of the dark side.
With an app such as "Lockscreen Agenda Pro" or "Lockscreen Agenda Free" (Free version has ads) you can have your appointments displayed on the lockscreen.
And there are a few good replacements for Garmin XT with Android. Sygic (sometimes called Aura) is one of my favorites. My other favorite is Navigon which is a Garmin company. And very comparable to Sygic. And my third choice is NDrive.
I still have my HD2 and have been a Garmin fan for a long time. I have Garmin XT loaded on my HD2. I also have a 7" Kenwood/Garmin touchscreen receiver in my Avalanche. But these other apps are just as good if not better and way more features than good ole Garmin XT.
agoattamer
Do any of the navigation programs you mention require a data/broadband connect?
As you know G-XT only requires a GPS connect, and since I do not have a data (dont need it) plan Im good to go.
Thanks for the Lockscreen Agenda suggestion.
All 3 of those can be used without data just like Garmin XT. The maps are saved on the SD card.
I gave the Lockscreen Agenda (free) shot but had to uninstall. It worked but I could no longer code lock my lockscreen. Also, for some strange reason it disabled my home icon (little house lower left.) The only way I could get back to my home screen was to use the back space icon... Tap tap tap.
I also have been playing with Sygic v11.2.6, and Navigon v3.6.0.
Sygic is iffy at best. Is a bit buggy and not all that accurate. I live in a metro area so its a good testing ground. The Navigation is a lot better in many ways. Its been spot on for now. Still, neither can compare to the Garmin XT. If I were going on a trip, no doubt, I would take my Tilt-2. While Navigon is running fine I still don't trust it... For now.
Note: Ive read quite a few reports that the Navigon v4.1.1 is very buggy and the last stable issue was v.3.6.0. They have also piecemealed the extras. In other words some of the extras that came with the app now they are charging for which is pissing a lot of people off.
I have Navigon 4.0.1 and Sygic 11.2.0 and have not encountered any issues yet.
Im not sure how much you use your Navigon but Im having a few issues. The first one is Navigon seems to be a bit slow on the start, even when the satellites are hooked up. I usually have to stop and re-enter my destination, though I only have to do this once. secondly is accuracy. Today I set it up for a location, again I had to stop to re-enter. It then took be to the wrong location. The actual location was about half a mile down the road. I had the G-XT running the same time. It had no problem running right out of my parking lot, and took me to the correct location.
