Reason? I'm using 1.54.01.00 and I lose service at least twice a day. I have to turn the phone off and back on just for it to find signal again...so annoying...

You know, it would be nice if just ONCE, instead of this stock response you give everyone who asks about a radio, you actually offered up some information that someone could use. For example, not everyone knows that if you use 1.54.30.10 you are stuck with it ... granted, it's mainly because not everyone reads the forums, but if you are going to bother responding, then at least give the newbs somthing to go on.
I am having radio problems myself since I upgraded to the cooked full version of WM6.1 and am also looking for the best solution.
I am using 1.54.01 now too, and my radio reception in Ohio with AT&T is worse than the WM6 2.25 AT&T version, and battery life is worse too. I am going to try to downgrade to 1.47.02 which was listed on the site with the WM6.1 to see if it works better.

Here's an update ...
1.47.02 was also a bust for me. I didn't test battery life, but the reception was bad enough I decided to try something else.
I finally was able to figure out that the radio that comes with AT&T's WM6 Desktop Updater is 1.54.27.00. I have decided to go back to that radio which was working well when I was on WM6.
Sorry, but I don't know how to extract a radio ROM, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere separately, so I had to go the long way to get back to it. There is probably an easier way to do this, but I'm a newb on flashing, so this is what I had to do:
1) Hard SPL the Treo. Note, when I did this to mine it did not go through step 3, so it did not re-flash the radio, and it kept the SPL version on the device. This is why I went looking for a new radio.
2) Revert to WM6 using the SD card update method. Get it here.
3) Install the WM6.1 ROM using the SD card update method. Get it here.
This radio has given me the best results for AT&T in central Ohio as far as radio stability and signal strength. YMMV, but I'm going to stick with it until something better comes along.
If anyone has the skills to extract this radio (1.54.27.00) from the main ROM, it might be of help to others.

A lot of members has the skill and can extract the radio fine. The problem is, they now got themselves a kaiser, some got polaris and others even got a Diamond to play with and as I speak, they're now busy playing with their new toys so, I don't think they will bother extracting the radio 1.27 from AT&T just as much as no one even bothered to help those who are stuck with radio 1.54xxx.

How do I tell what radio version I am using?
When I go to the about in the settings. it does not say anything about radio. it says
Software version:
TREO750-2.18-VFE
Hardware version:
A
.....
Firmware version:
1.47.02.000
CC-Cap:
CFG-AU-009
does this mean 1.47.02.000 this the radio version?

Best ROM Upgrade for Orange UK Rom

Hi there, i been looking through the forums and i am wanting to flash the phone with a new rom.
I currently have the Orange UK Rom and after installing all the HTC theme, homescreen, touchflow cube i have noticed the performance of the phone dropping so i guess what i am after is a rom with all of this on a standard rom or is there a ROM that someone can recommend me to use?
Thanks in advance
No one will tell you the best rom for your phone, you need to try them to find out which works best for you.
A lot of the ROM cooks have moved here from Hermes and Wizard and produce some great roms so most will work on your phone. May of these are optimised for the US market, so I prefer Schaps (on Hermes and Kaiser) which, for me, appears to be optimised as a rom without country or carrier specific additions and I can then customise to suit.
If your phone is Orange UK then it is probably SIM and CID locked to Orange. SIM lock is easy to check by trying SIM cards from other peoples phones. If you intend to stay with Orange then you don't need to unlock the SIM to upgrade the ROM but you will probably need to unlock the CID and possibly (depending on ROM) need to upgrade the radio.
You can CID unlock by using HardSPL - and this is a MUST to prevent heartache if you are upgrading radios.
But before you go any further do a lot of reading about the relationship between Roms/radios/CID/SIM/SPL etc and also read the threads for each rom before you flash it.
And dont flash a rom that has a radio in it. It will SIM lock your Orange device. You must SIM unlock your phone (no free way to do this yet) before flashing to a different radio version.
I'm using Dutty's No.6 with CF 3.5 and it works a treat on a simlocked Orange UK handset.
thanks for your help, i will take a look at the rom that you are using!
i am getting a 260 error when trying to use Hard SPL, any idea what this is or how to solve this?
*subscription added*
interested in seeing and learning about this. Ive just recently got my Tytn II upgrade on orange and would like to unlock its full potential.
after about 5 hours of trying to search for a solution, i attempted the Hard SPL on a different pc and it worked first time, so guessing its my pc that is at fault for the error. After sorting that out, i flashed the phone with the Schaps_WM6Pro_Kaiser_4.22_WWE_Full ROM and so far so good! really happy with this ROM. Only thing i did not do was backup the orange ROM, does anyone know where i can find this in case i need to go back to the standard ROM?
Ive just flashed with the exact same ROM as you. Have you noticed, theres no voice dialing icon?
either that or ive forgotten where it was! but it used to be easily spotted. I need that function cos im a driver by trade and this phone is too complicated to use even at the wheel (which id never do! )
help me get back my voice dialing!
oh and another thing, i cant even figure out how to get my SIM contacts back onto the phone!! (ive only had it 1 day thou)
I'm not too sure what you mean? are you talking about the function that the button on the top left side of the phone?
Also for contacts, i sync my contacts on my pc with outlook before the flash and sync it again after the flash to get all the contacts back onto my phone
ive managed to figure out the contacts, it just started reading from the SIM again.......
but the voice dialing is defo missing. You can set a voice tag by holding down on a contacts name so the menu pops out, but the Add Voice tag... option isnt there no more. I believe this ROM doesnt have it, thats my only explanation. I might have to flash over it again but i dont have the original one no more.
im gonna give Kaiser AKU.0.7.0 Cooked ROM a try, it has Cyberon Voice SpeedDial=1_2_b070717_0 which is what i think i need.
Ooh, so far this looks like the thread I need to be reading.
I will have another go at doing this CID thingy with Hard SPL.
Then i'll try the same ROM as you. I don't need the voice dialling so that shouldn't be a problem.
BTW, does anyone know how much actual memory the TyTNII has? There is another thread where the guy says his ROM has 900Mb of maps on it. I didn't think there was that much storage?
Thanks for your help!

I've created a ROM package for the Orange UK ROM which can be used to restore it to its original state, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1709983&postcount=10
You only need to put back SPL 1.81 AFTER flashing my ROM, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568 for instructions on how to do that.

Orange rom is very bad. when you click on "goto" (main screen) and try to change your wallpaper by personalising, device gets stuck. i have this brand new phone and showed it to the orange store and they change my device but still the same problem.
i show them again and they want to swop it to another one again. (funny right) so remember to goto ornage "goto" menu (bottom left of the main screen) and try to change the wallpaper, when you need to cancel your contact or claim warrenty. (every ornage kaiser will get stuck 100% sure)
thanks to our graduate pof i have done the hard spl on my orange kaiser and now it is ready to flash the hybird rom. far better than orange rom.
Gah!
I really want to get home and set up my PC to get this done!
I'm using my MacBook Pro atm and I don't think you can use the TyTN II with it.
Really annoyed at Orange though for crippling my phone.
haha orange prob done the worst job on this phone compared to all the other networks

Mines been working a treat today. The voice dialing is back on the phone, it works just like it did before. The phone functions are all there (well from what i can remember after only 1 day of original use!)
All i need now is someone to be so kind as to show me where i can get a GPS software with maps for my phone gratis

Question: How to completely wipe a Tilt?

No, not a ROM flash: I want to completely erase every last piece of data in my Tilt and install the SPL, OS, and radio from scratch.
As far as I can tell, FrankenKaiser will do that, but it (in theory) only works with the radio from hell... which I have, albeit the "_patched" version...
I am trying to work from a clean slate, rather than flash another ROM... trying to clear up a problem that I think can only be fixed by such a drastic move... and of all the posts I've seen, (unless I'm retarded - quite possible) none has addressed such a move. Is FrankenKaiser the solution? If so, do I need to put the radio from hell on first? If it's not the solution, what is? Or is there one at all?
Thank you

This is possible, but why?
After you wipe your phone you will be re-flashing the ROM / Radio and SPL anyway.
If you do do this, make sure you read and understand the process (and what the pre-requisites are first).
Ta
Dave
Install Sleuth's V_3.0 WM6.1. I have moddified a version with Jocky to work with that OEMSBL version.
I will PM you with a link for the moddified FrankenKaiser, hey that sounds familiar, ohh yeah, Jocky let me name it!
HOWEVER, I think I'd try a few other things first. Like check the Radio Protocol. On boot does the red protocol version end in H or W? W is not for US & can create issues with 3G. Also, you can try using MTTY with my G3SPL MFG_SPL to fomat a few thing & to flush out Nand blocks. Many things to try before venturing to FK. I know you PM'd me, but I've been a wee bit busy, I'll make a little time if I can help though. Try me on MSN/Live Messenger [email protected] (Even if it says "Offline" give it a try, I may just be lurking)
Protocol ends in H, currently using the Neon 1.58.25.17 radio, I have tried virtually every other 6.1 radio in existence, and about a dozen different ROMs, including the stock AT&T and letting the bloatware install just for poops and giggles. But not the one that you suggested GS, what the hell, one more ROM flash ain't gonna hurt...
I am reticent to think it's a hardware issue because the G and H icons do appear, I just can't get a connection, and it all happened while using the GPS (LiveSearch and HTC GPS Tool specifically). If it was hardware related I would imagine that I wouldn't get the icons, it would just show no service.
Also, the reason I wanted to do a complete whitewash is because, even when installing a new ROM, I have noticed that certain traces and settings remain from days gone by (certain registry settings, POP3 accounts, etc), which I find odd.
I would be interested in the MTTY approach, a link would be appreciated... running out the door now to go play bar manager...
Sorry GS, didn't wanna seem impatient, just trying to get a wider input as to a solution, so I can (a) fix mine and (b) maybe suggest to others (a bunch from what I've seen, here and elsewhere) with the same problem, rather than everyone sending them to AT&T / HTC for replacements.
Personally, I think that the 3G issue is some corruption somewhere in the phone's firmware that a ROM/radio/SPL change doesn't affect, and - as much as I hate to invoke such people - the guys at AT&T that looked at it believed the same, didn't think it was an antenna issue (although the widespread belief is that it IS, and furthermore that anyone working at AT&T is a dolt - which IS usually the case). Far be it from me to be naive, but one would think that if this was as widespread a problem as it is and was hardware related that there would be a recall, which there hasn't been.
Again, thanks to everyone for their assistance.
So, I guess the next question is... how do I use MTTY to, as GSLEON suggested, flush out the bad blocks?
Again, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
go ahead and read up on this post. It will explain everything for you...

No seriously, which way do you flash a rom ?
Just flash and basta? Flash and HR after that ? Have tryed with a different computer /os ? From SD card ? I had some reminiscent traces of previous roms if I didn't hard resetted after the flash.

Thought about it, but motherf*%$# Al-Qaida has made getting my hands on one so difficult.
I flash from a WinXP PC, have not tried another one because this is the only one I can get my grubby little hands on, flash / HR. Have not tried from SD card. I have had traces of old ROMs as well - I tired using PDAUltimate v6 and still had the splash screen from Garmin 4.4c... odd... that and other incidents of remnants of ROMs gone by.
You may want to check here and see if there is anything that may apply. (This is coming from someone that had a 3G failure.)

Well, that IS the usual behavior when the radio hardware goes poof, many people including myself experienced it. In the end GPS failed too on mine, as well as the GSM radio, and the phone was always running hot and draining batteries extremely quickly.
See the link posted by John.
The quick and dirty of it is....
1. The Icon lighting up means the radio and protocol is correct to talk on the correct 3G bands in your area
2. From what I have been able to gleen on how the 3G signaling works (not an expert here) it is basically GSM signaling for the UMTS/HSDPA Voice/data path buildup.
3. It is most interesting to go to an area that has non PCS band 3g, use field test to verify this if you want, you can lock your phone on edge and use voice and data 850, but will not be able to build up a UMTS/HSDPA connection on 3G. You need to go to a non PCS area as I have seen for the most part in Seattle they run the edge net on 850 and 3G on PCS frequencies.

jf 1.5 and radio

I have wanted a G1 since I heard it was coming out, but I was AT&T... made the jump last week and FINALLY got my G1...
Didn't want to wait for official cupcake so I rooted last night... After a couple of hours of sweating and swearing I think I got it... I don't know what I did, but after almost dying cause it was taking FOREVER to reboot, i looked and it said 1.5... whatever... but everywhere I looked it said to install the latest version of "radio"... What is it? and how can I tell if I have it? I guess it sounds like a dumb question, but us noobs are like that...
BTW... LOVE jf's 1.5... rooting is the way to go!
i dont kno exactly the radio does but from my understanding it heps with data transferand supposldy helps with batter consumption...go to htc website and download the 1.5 radio apply to sd card as update.zip
The latest version of the radio can be found here;
http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
basically, what I do is just load it on my card, rename to update.zip and then just follow steps 6-9 on the htc page.
From what I can remember, and with no link to back me up, I thought we were supposed to update radio first, and then flash the phone with the new os. Hopefully someone else pipes in and confirms or corrects this.

Its pretty simple if you think of it in terms of a radio your familiar with like the one in your car. A car stereo is set to pick up radio stations on different frequencies like 101.5, 92.1 transmitted from a radio tower. A phones radio pretty much does the same thing, it picks up frequencies 850, 900, 1800, 1900 for GSM from the cell phone tower, but also has the ability to transmit back to the tower unlike an FM radio. The radio updates are just tweaks to the part of the phone that controls all this, hence giving better signal, batter life, etc. Just like the OS becomes more efficient/capable from updates the Radio can aswell. I hope this explanation helps.
The radio can be updated before or after (I prefer to do it after beause that's how OTA does it). Download the radio file, put it in the root of your sdcard, rename it to update.zip (zip being the extension, not an extra line of word for it), go into recovery mode and hit alt-s to update.
To know that you have the latest radio, go to settings and check about phone, and in the baseband version, your numbers should end with 2.22.19.26I
Excellent. That answered all my questions... so I am cool to do it after, helps battery life... I like it!

What are the risks of using the Hermes Radios for my Treo?

I wanted to know, if there are any risks involved by using the radio's on this site:
http://www.crc.id.au/files/xda/Radio_Roms/
I've heard that it's impossible to overwrite the 1.54.30.10 radio version. Are there others like this?
I'd also like to know if it's possible to return to the Palm supplied radios in case I find these Hermes radio's unfit for duty, or if anyone has experience in reverting back to Palm radios.
Thanks for replies. (sorry if this post looks odd, it's a WAP post >_>)

Any of the radios should be fine to flash to your phone. Do you need to? It's up to you, but if your phone is working OK already, then you probably don't need to flash a radio. Like I said, it is still OK to flash Hermes radios (since the Hermes and Treo 750/Cheetah are pretty much the same).
I would advise against 1.54.30.10 radio, it is a good radio, but it is VERY DIFFICULT to flash over it.
Is there any advantage to these later radios? Better reception/speed/etc?
So I flashed firmware 1.50.00.00 and it seems like it can't be overwritten, no matter what method I used to flash over it (USB or Mini SD)
Any ideas as to how to really overwrite these firmwares?
Pretty Much Screwed
Flashed a hermes rom and bricked my Treo 750 can't get it to load past windows mobile screen. If anybody knows anything let me know. Thanks.
Arc, can it go into the bootloader? Do this by pressing the PTT buttom, and the reset button next to the card reader. Search and you can find how to flash via sd, this should fix your problems. By the way I-DEN is the type of phone, not a network. Nextel uses CDMA, which is why I have an IPhone on nextel.
I can get into bootloader and have tried flashing orig. wm6 rom, wm5 rom, extracted radio from it and flashed just radio, and flashed some more hermes roms because I was getting no where. Best I can tell radio is fried, ran the info command from mitty and gave an error when it tried to pull info from the radio. BTW thanks for correcting me on IDEN it is a technology not a network, how did you get an iphone on a cdma network?

Those are the consequences my friend of flashing roms that are not designed from your phone even if they are extremely similar radios, roms, hardspl etc...your phone is different than hermes, kaiser or other. Even under the same HTC devices, they seem to be very similar but they are pretty different.

What Rapheal Phone do I have

Could someone explain please?
Radio is comparable to something like your WiFi card in your laptop. Depending on your location, etc, some radios are better than others. They control your signal, GPS, WiFi, etc. The most used one that I've seen is 1.14.25.35
UC Capable is something you need when you start cooking. If you're new to the Raph, you probably don't need this info yet.
SPL is the most important. Since you bought your device pre-flashed with 6.5, is should be hardSPL. This helps prevent your device from becoming an expensive paperweight. Now, it helps, but doesn't guarantee. If you put your device into bootloader (hold vol-, hold power, and reset with stylus) your device at the top of your screen should say something like SPL-1.90.Olinex. This means it's hardSPL and you are able to flash custom ROMS, like the NRGZ28 ROM you linked to. As long as they are GSM you should be able to flash any ROM for the GSM Touch Pro.
These are the basics so just keep reading the wiki. I will answer any questions I can, so just shoot me a PM if needed
Hey, if you want to flash your Raphael, I'd recommend you read this
I did my first, regardint this thread, and actually worked, really simple if you ask me!
Some suggestions: Leave the radio, for first, just do a simple ROM flash, and after that if you find it nessescery you can do it later.
The only ROM I tried for my Raphael is TAEL's ROM, it's amazing compared to the stock ROMs!!! If you're intrested click on it in my signature!
I have the following ROM;-
r:- 1.11.25.01
g:-52.58.25.30u
d 5. phoenix
Do I have to revert to a OEM ROM? If so, where do I find those please?
Good news, I've been sucessfull Phoned imaged to TAEL Roms - very good.
Could of questions;-
1. Don't have the sat nav the other image had. Can't remember the name of it. but I used to use that quite alot. Does anyone know where I can download it from?
2. Used to have an application called FLASHLIGHT - great little app. Its a TOURCH application that used the FLASH Light. Really handy. Where can I download it please.
Many thanks.

1) are you talking about the garmin or tomtom gps software? or the one where you use the GPS to lock down a location (kinda like "dude where's my car?" app for the iphone)
search on the forums under software development subforum. it's called Torch.. that or NueLight.
Thanks I managed to find the torch light thing, but still can't find the sat nav. Not sure what the name was. It was really good though. Wasn't the tom tom navigator. Wish I made a note of it, as it was fully working version :-(
are you talking about the GPS navigation software? if so then it's either garmin (mobile XT) or tomtom
Hi,
Looking on my storage card Managed to find the name - AUTO MAPA. Tried to load it from the storage card, and it works. So I have copied the exe to the start menu, multimedia folder and it works great
Whats this GARMIN Mobile XT like then?
Since updating to TAEL Rom, my signal is very low and keeps disconnecting from the network.
Do I need to upgrade my RADIO then?
My version is;-
1.11.25.01
I found this one, would this work ?

try testing other radio. I changed my radio to the new ATT official rom (not so new anymore but it was the latest updated ATT rom). Test it out for a few days each and map out what you think works best and keep to that.
One thing I noticed is that some radios will crash your phone after a call.. they may give you better signals, but it will crash your phone, so be aware of that.
Hi,
Thanks for the message. Does it matter that I am on TMOBILE and not ATT ?
