RayGun - General Topics

Has anybody seen this?? I did a quick forum search but couldn't find anything on it.

Looks neat but I can't seem to find a download anywhere even though it says "Try the free version of RayGun for Google Earth or Windows Mobile cell phones....try RayGun!" Maybe I'm just blind..

Im assuming it isn't out yet then. Looks pretty nice. Though it would probably run WAY sluggish on my vogue since it lacks proper video drivers..
I want that nvidia chip/phone.

Zynga for the touch pro?

My cousin has an iphone and plays texas hold em from zynga on it with other people...
I'd like to join him but can't seem to find an app that will tag into that network...
Does anyone know a program that will work with WM that will tie into the zynga network so I can play along with him?
I'm unsure if the browser has the required capability (flash or whatever) to log in through that and use it... even if it did i don't really think that's a good option... I'd really like a separate program to do so...
me too
been looking around...can't find anything either...
Even I was looking around for such software. Couldn't find any.
Skyfire browser has flash capability, so you might play on that.
So does the Opera Web Browser technically. But Skyfire is much more compatible with PC style software that is on the web. I would also suggest you make sure you have plenty of RAM and processor dedicated to skyfire otherwise you may just not get it running
Here you go this ones on me http://tinyurl.com/cq5dkl
zynga man, zynga
X2D...perhaps I'm mistaken, but there doesn't appear to be zynga texas hold 'em supporting programs in the amusing "solution" that you proposed. if you have any, more constructive, ideas i would love to hear them...
Semi-solved
Went back to using skyfire...it's a bit laggy and looks fuzzy unless you're at full zoom. But it works. Won a decent sized pot with a straight on my first game too
Tried installing the flash lite 3.1 thingy and using onboard opera for the newest htc rom, but didn't work...gets stuck on the "invite friends" pagey thingy and keeps reloading the same when you click "play now"...

Manilla2D Speed Boost

I dunno if this is a ROM isolated thing, (I'm running NYG Pro) but I find that if I leave a video running in the background after selecting it under the "Photos and Videos" tab, regardless of the video duration, it'll give me a boost with anything 2D until I close Album. Manilla 2D and TaskFacade run a lot sexier now. The only thing that seems to kill it is Audio Manager. lol As soon as I run it, it goes back to normal and the only way to get that extra framerate is to restart Album with the same or another video and leave it running again.
Sorry if this had been posted before, but is there anyway we might be able to incorporate the, what seems to be, "2D driver" in startup like what taskfacade has to do? Just like a crippled version of Album for the speed? I don't know exactly what's giving it the boost here, but this seems pretty important if it's not isolated to the ROM I'm running.
I just tried this with my Kaiser and it works consistently on a Hyperdragon 3 ROM from November, so it seems to be fairly universal. I don't know how or why this works, but I'd sure like to see someone figure it out and find a way to have it work all the time.
Edit: I assume this has something to do with the video drivers that may or may not actually exist, and with the built-in video playback somehow turning on 2D acceleration, but I'm no programmer so I can't really go into detail. The more I play with this, though, the more excited I am to have smooth response in Manila and iContact and things of that sort, and the more I hope someone can find a way to build this into a ROM or make it a standalone program.
confirmed here too, now this is wierd
It's not so weird
During early days on UIQ, we also found the phone UI works a lot faster when there's a background Video running / being played .. seems to be the same factor.
Hi all,
actually, its nothing to do specifically with M2D ...
actually, been noticing that with everything ... say, PointUI Home 2 for example , .. leave your video on paused state, and try playing around the Home ... seems a marvel ...
but then, its been there since my UIQ3 days, on my P990i ... graphics performance boost up whilst leaving a video running ....
i hope this will trigger some wise minds in here ...
Yeah actually tried this trick with a Gameboy emulator. Works pretty well. Eliminates page tearing so that's pretty cool. Here's to hoping something gets done with this!
Will doing this kill the battery life?
It may affect it slightly since it is still running a program. As far as i can tell there isn't much of a change in the real world though.
From what I have read, attempted to understand, and barely grasp, this likely works because it opens up the 3D and 2D driver sets so that programs that don't have the "call" code built in but support 3D and 2D drivers are able to utilize them then.
Not 100%, but it seems like this is where the driver developement is stuck at in general, with finding out how to get all programs to use the drivers all the time even if the drivers are not native.
I have very limited knowledge of all of those, though, and half the driver stuff goes over my head, but what I have grasped is that they don't seem to have, to use an analogy, the "phone number" for the drivers, but some programs do and some do not type thing.

maybe we should just have pause a video and add it as an exlusive itme in the task mager and always have it running lol Im gonna try this
You should change the name of this thread to somthing taht will atract more attention liek "possible graphics driver fix!" cause honestly I think you discovered somthing very usefuil if someone made a cut down version of this app and just had a pause short medai clip in the backround this could be a step closer to our driver solution or mabe THE solution and honestly I think this is amazing, and I think if you changed the titl of this thread it would attract A LOT of more atention
Could it be the Q7200 having some sort of speed step running and playing a clip is bringing it up to its default max of 400 MHz...? Which would simply speed up everything but consume more battery...
If it really enables drivers to run, that would be simply amazing and some of the smart heads here should take a deeper look into it.
Very interesting find!
Maybe its also worth posting in more general forum? not in Kaiser Rom development?
maybe try to send a message to someone from the HTCclassaction team?
Hi, isn't this video player actually a separate app that is spawned from manila?
Any handy people out there who could make this happen with a .cab? (install small video player, make it autostart and run an included, very small, video, all while running invincibly/exlusively in the background?)

Doubt its the processor stepping up left this active all day no difference in battery consumption or little if any. This is a cool find hope it leads somewhere for 'cursed users'.
Shifu v1.1
Seems to speed things up on this rom as well. Does seem more than a placebo effect.
Sorry. I don't know if this is frowned upon on this forum, but I'm bumping this for great justice. move zig lol

Sorry, I have to agree with placebo effect, I am using PDA X Beta II and Manila was pretty speedy before trying this, tried it and saw no difference, real or imagined.

[REQ] Google Maps offline

Hi,
as I don't have mobile internet flat, but the manila contact tab does link someone's adress just to google maps,
I wondered whether there is some kind of offline google maps -
not satellite pics, just map and the ability to just download what you need ;-)
I found several applications, but just for other OS, not win-mo:
http://www.symbian60.mobi/2008/03/17/google-maps-karten-offline-benutzen/ (German, but you can use translators..)
http://www.joesonic.com/blog/2008/04/14/google-maps-offline-for-iphone/
http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/
best regards,
Buembel
P.s.: it would also be ok if someone found out how to link these adresses with another program as tomtom ;-)
mgmaps is actually java. there's a detailed tutorial on how to get it to work in winmo and how to download maps. It's a tedious process imo and it too kme something like weeks to finish downloading all road maps (with zoom up till level 18) for Singapore which is a very small country and not to mention when roads do change and you need to go though the whole process again?
It's gonna be wayy easier to use vector drawn maps like garmin or tom tom.
Yeah, just go with TomTom, iGO, etc.. Storing the Google Map data would take a LOT of storage space.
Hi folks,
Sorry if this sounds a bit rude Lately I have been seeing a lot of responses which digress from the intial post!
In this particular post, Buembel is asking for an offline Google Map solution. I am sure if he wanted TomTom, IGO, etc, he would have asked for GPS navigation.
The poster even went to the extent of doing some research on the topic and gave relevant links.
If anyone can help him in the quest, do so, else PLEASE DO NOT reply with other stuff.
Now coming back to the original post. Can anyone help port these apps for Windows Mobile?
MGMaps is not bad at all. It all depends on how much of the map and zoom levels you want for offline viewing. I build multiple cities with a 14-17 zoom. Play with it a little and you will get a hang of it. Between these 3 links I think you should get a fair idea of how to use it

It would take an incredible amount of memory to store all of GoogleMaps maps onto the phones device memory.and that the only way you gonna access it off line, like in garmin or tomtom you have to actually save the maps to your phone or SDcard memory.
Even then, using a third party solution (i.e. mgmaps) doesn't provide the Manila link-in the OP clearly referenced.
run.gps gives you the option of specifying a directory to download maps, but I couldn't figure out how to use the onboard maps instead of the internet.
Of course, I didn't spend much time reading, either.

you can try this program:
http://www.terracrosser.com/
You download on your PC home maps that interest you, move on to the ppc and see offline using the integrated gps of the phone.
I have used in different circumstances and for me it's ok.
Moved to Questions & Answers, as this is not software currently in development.
I have tried mgmaps but they didn't work well on my VGA screen. Terracrosser is quite tedious for me so I uninstalled it. looking forward to have a similar for myself as well.

That looks good. I'll play with it over the weekend.

I've never tried it but OSMTracker will download tiles from OpenStreetMap.com for offline use.
PDA Tilemanager could be used in conjuction with this to make the downloading quicker and easier.
I downloaded terracrosser and am downloading zoom levels 17/18/19 for Branson, MO. It will be nearly 10GB of and 350000 (yes 350 thousand) images.
JJ
Tracky and do what you want and currently it is available for 20% discount
why is it that when I click on terracrosser on my phone it never loads it? I soft reset many times, no idea what going on. I have installed many apps but this has never happened.
Any ideas?
It loads on my htc diamond, but it's very slow. If I remember correctly, I had to soft reset to close it.

ANY way to use Google Maps offline?

I've searched a LOT and couldn't find any method. There's terracrosser, but I find it's interface unusable. MGMaps in wonderful, but sadly doesn't support Google Maps. In my area, Yahoo/WLive maps suck. No comparision with google maps.
Is there ANY software available, free or paid, which can help me browse Google maps offile, and supports GPS?
Or, is there a hack/method to use Google Maps in MGmaps?
Thanks.
what a search would have given you

Of course I've done that! But if you yourself go over the links, there's *no* solution. Either Terracrosser is being recommended (which I honestly hate), or the post is older, before the time when Google disallowed MGMaps to use GMaps.

I'd double the request. I also searched LOT and tried the solutions - even downloading the maps from google using different apps... still there comes a dead end with everything (getting banned, getting just one colossal map image etc)... a WORKING solution is missing
just to make sure then you do know what I posted was 13 links to 13
threads about your question not
just 13 links to the same thread
right ?
would be surprised if non of them had any type of helpful info
of cause if it don't HAVE to be google maps then there are many standalone
gps programs with offline maps out there from tomtom, garmin,......
Of course there is a way. Here is how to do it in three easy steps:
1 - Buy 49% of Google's shares and become a partner.
2 - Copy all your maps and software to a mobile server and put that into the trunk of your car (with the appropriate power supply of course).
3 - Attach a Router to the Server. You are done! Now you have a mobile wi-fi google maps setup that you can take anywhere with you! No need of annoying offline modes and such.
I hope this helps.
Really all of the posted topics were not helpful enough. My point is to have SATELLITE imagery of entire country (Estonia) @ the maximum zoom layer only (which vary according to area sometimes). I do not even care which program runs it. Just gps spot and OFFLINE data. I would be even happy with simple thing like terracrosser. The main problem is that the PC side downloaders get banned by ip (rarely), download one BIG useless image file or just unreadable data. And the handheld device apps use just a caching approach what makes it hard to understand what you have and haven't. Even Google/Global Navigator at its high price is not able to select the entire area. I'd be happy even with TRIAL Google/Global NAvigator!
I got it guys!
Use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351001.

I tried this solution but the map data were not downloaded completely. The data was incomplete. BTW... java. I know I know - it is usable but it still feels like running a virtual machine. Which actually is also happening.
Terracrosser does the thing actually but the user interface controls are catastrophically bad
Buy a map
search doesnt always find the answer, fyi

A decent YouTube downloader app.

The YouTube app that comes with the Leo looks very sleek but is missing the most important feature in my book - the ability to download the videos and play them offline. Is there an equivalent of the iPhone's MXTube on Windows Mobile which allows this? I have managed to find a few old apps that claim to do it but both come back with no results on searches, probably as a result of being out of date.
Cheers in advance.
Try This
Thanks but that was one of the ones I tried. The returned results on a search is very limited. Maybe I was just spoilt with MXTube and Yourtube on the iPhone, but I find it amazing there isn't similar quality apps on Windows Mobile.

Thanks for the link. A nice looking app but it seems changes to Youtube have been made which have rendered the search non-functioning, it returns no hits regardless of the keyword used. So until the author makes an update it's pretty useless to me but I will keep an eye on it.
I'm disappointed with the lack of usable applications. As I said above, it's surprising such a fundamental requirement isn't adequately covered by multiple applications considering how open the Windows Mobile platform is.
WVD was updated yesterday. Hopefully should work for you now..
