Hard SPL Question - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

OK, after spending over a year using a Cingy 8525, which I really like, I broke down and ordered a AT&T Tilt today and I am really confused. For the Hernes there is really only one Hard SPL to use, OLIPRO by Pof. Now for the Kaiser I find there are two, one by Pof and one by JockyW. I have read the threads for both, and both seem to be pretty much similar, which one to use?
Any suggestions or input will be helpful.

I would suggest that you Security Unlock your device first.

Check here on how to do a security unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361236
Here are the files that you will need to do the process:
http://www.4shared.com/file/46447471/7ae96b57/Jockyw2001_HardSPL_-_SuperCID.html
Just follow the steps in the supercid. I have included the .txt file that Jockyw2001 included.
Be sure to flash the "SPL-1.1.JockyW" as the process won't work while SPL-3.2x.Hard is installed.

Then I would to update to a WM6.1 ROM.
If you are going to use a ROM such as a Diamond ROM or a HTC based ROM then flash the HardSPL 3.28. If you plan on using the newest AT&T ROM build then I would suggest using the 3.29 HardSPL.
See this thread on selecting which one to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
You said you have flashed a HardSPL before using your Hermes then you should know the process. If you have any doubt Kyphur has provided some great information in the 2nd post of the thread. It should answer all your questions.
Being that you have a newer Tilt I would also suggest using the JumpSPL 1.93. Since you probably have that SPL right now.
You can verify this by holding down your camera button and putting the sylus in the reset hole.
As far as flashing you can check the post in my signature about things to before and and after you flash a ROM that might help as well.

totally off subject,
Alltheway, congrat's on becoming a mod,
Lupe

Thanks, AllTheWay, I read through the Kaiser wiki and it listed pofs version, then I saw the sticky in the Kaiser ROM Development and it listed JockeyW's and thats why I was so confused, before I posted my question. I downloaded the Hard SPL files you mentioned and the security unlocker to my PC, so now all I have to do is wait till the darn phone gets here (prolly Monday).
Oh, by the way, I like your vintage Raiders avitar (GO STEELERS) LOL.
To overhaulengines, I started modding phones about 3 years ago, right after I got my first Moto Razor (still have one for a backup).

Am I ready to flash

Hi, I am due to pick up my tytn 2 on Saturday so I have spent hours reading through these forums my brain is starting to bleed.
There is so much information in the forums can I just confirm that to flash I am taking the right steps.
The first question I have is 3.2x.Hard SPL an updated version of HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1.
My second question is prior to flashing a ROM, I would:-
1- Run a SSPL such as JumpSPL and then flash the HardSPL.
2- Flash a ROM, (I am looking at Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700)
I know the info is here, there is just so much of it.
Thanks for all the good stuff on here.

Sounds good so far.
There are many versions of the Hard SPL now, flash the one recommened in the thread for your chosen ROM (dutty doesn't but I'd suggest 3.28 for this ROM).
Start with SSPL to flash the HardSPL, if you get a white screen then start on the Jump SPLs.
Once done, check Hard SPL is your SPL on your bootloaded and flash a ROM.
Easy
If you have a problem with any of the steps, please post in the relevant thread.

I've been through many-a-Dutty's, but my first ROM on the Kaiser was Austinsync's BIGstorage version of HTC's original ship ROM.

That's funny you say that, my first 3-4 flashes were Dutty's ROMs.
To the thread starter....
My first flash was a bit of an adventure, I'm no guru like the peeps here but, I'm no idiot either. I would suggest bookmarking a few threads here to ease your pain. The Kaiser Wiki is a must have, as is AllTheWays' Ultimate Radio Thread.
Also, I would suggest reading through the thread of the ROM your about to flash to. That way you get a "heads up" on what problems you may or may not encounter. Hope this helps.

Same here, Apr29 cube hybrid. Loved it. Just recently flashed to L26 v9. Seems more responsive, but I miss all the cool things that were in Dutty's. I've tweaked and installed too many things on this flash to want to flash again for a while. My next flash will be (if it ever comes) a honest to goodness 2D/3D driver upgrade which shows vast improvements with all the cool gadgets in Dutty's hybrid rom. (I miss the rotating cube most)
My first flash was NoThrills...would love to see an updated version. I've since gone Dutty, L26 variants, now on ROMeOS 3.1

How to Select the BEST SPL that matches your ROM

How to Select the BEST SPL that matches your ROM
When I was reading the SPL Frequently Asked Question in the wiki.xda.developers I started to search on the topic more and more; I kind of got obsessed with the issues described there by bengalih such as battery drains, power issues, screen freezing see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396235
I decided to shift from Hard SPL to Shipped SPL I was running shipped WM 6.0 [1.81.415.2 (radio 1.27.12.11)] at the time. So used the pre-made SPL file manufactured by sirsycho http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568 to return to shipped... my phone screen lagging got better and battery life improved slightly… the problem however persisted…
I flashed several ROMs Shipped/Cooked and kept moving between Hard SPLs and Shipped SPLs… my obsession has grown more with performance and between the relationship between SPL and ROM… I even posted a thread but it was closed as being redundant information
Last week I decided I will start doing some real experiments using sirsycho’s excellent guide… I was ripping the Shipped SPLs from Shipped ROMs and flashing them simultaneously trying different Hard SPLs on the Shipped Roms
I was noting the version numbers and apparently a very obvious correlation existed between the version of the SPL and the best ROM. I have observed that the first four characters (I am counting “.” as a character) must be the same to obtain the best ‘marriage’ between your ROM and your SPL
e.g.
If you have the Shipped ROM 1.81.415.2 (radio 1.27.12.11) your best SPL will be 1.81.0000
If you have Shipped ROM 1.56.405.5 (radio 1.27.12.11) your best SPL will be 1.56.0000
If you have Shipped ROM 3.29.707.0 (Radio 1.65.16.25) your best SPL will be 3.29.0000
Now transferring this knowledge to cooked ROMs your base ROM version will determine the Hard SPL you must use. Thus, why HardSPL v3.07, v3.28, v3.29 and v3.56 by JockyW2001 are recommended for WM 6.1 the next question that this thread is attempting to answer is which Hard SPL must be chosen
Concluding Remarks,
To Revert back to Original ROM and Original SPL (Make sure you get the right Couples) for warranty purposes
Cocked ROMs must get the best Hard SPL match for optimal performance
Don’t mix AT&T ROM with htc SPL or vice-versa (I did not try that but I assume poor performance)
Such information might be useful for Hard SPL developers – obviously it seem a new Hard SPL will be needed with each kitchen
Moderators
I genuinely have searched the forum very well before posting and never found any obvious information as described here

I use HardSPL 3.56, ripped from an AT&T base, with all custom ROMs I flash. There are no performance issues with HTC-based ROMs. All of the chefs will list the recommended SPL version in their threads, and they rarely match the SPL of the base they used.
-Edit-
Bengalih created an SPL thread covering this information back in May. But your thread seems to be more concise.
This is still very very useful and provides a nice summary and insight into SPL choices. Well done!
Mr. NotATreoFan
Hello ...
Definitly - JockyW did an excellent job in ripping the original SPLs and cracking them - i was just trying to highlight that SPL/Hard SPL version mut match ROM choice
Cooked ROM and SPL - Chefs don't always point to best matching SPL
About performance - i disagree with you and multi-tasking is the real test if a person use a bad match device becoming sluggish
As for AT&T SPL with htc i was just predicting, i did not tried this [but i do trust your experience]
Battery drain is another issue - i assure you if you use the best match power consumption (standby) increase - i will try to run a benchmark if time allowed
After all - any Hard SPL will work with any ROM (cooked or shipped) it will only need an obsessive person to complain about performance
Thanks for your insight

Not to be rude or burst any bubbles......
The info you provided is great, if you're flashing BACK to the official ROM for your device or carrier.
If I'm not mistaken, all official ROMs when flashed.....will change the SPL to what it's supposed to be. When doing a warranty return, the last step is removing the HardSPL.
Back to the question of the thread:
How to Select the BEST SPL that matches your ROM ?
The chef should/will tell you within the 1st 3 threads, if not....that would be a valid question to ask that chef in the appropriate thread.
Your SPL needs to match the ROM Build for best performance.

Exactly what I said, with the exception of your last sentence. Generally I would agree with you, but for whatever reason, my personal experiences with 3.56.Hard have been the best, regardless of what build the ROM came from.
hello...dwny...
yes - in most cases chefs will point to the best spl when they release a new rom - we are all aware of this fact (but let me ask this question, how many of us using the best spl? dude up to a one month time i was using Olipro Hard SPL with wm 6.1 and i was not the only one for sure... read the signing remarks of people and u will see them using bad spl, bad radio, with a good rom) pls look next time at this BTW my devices info ar out of date
this thread is aimed to answer the question [How to Select the BEST SPL that matches your ROM ?] by each one of us, as i have demonstrated above!
i will try to PM the figures of hard spl (Olipro and JockyW) to get their engineering knowledge on what performance aspect we speak about here.. spl (hard spl) is what save our devices from bricking and apparently it does morw than this - so lets have a better understanding of it

HardSPL allows us to flash whatever ROM we choose & will not uninstall with a flash
The best SPL is the one that comes with the base of the cooked ROM (so they say).
Due to screen freezing, matching the SPL w/ROM became the standard.
I, myself noticed differences when applying the standard. Before then, it was a crap-shoot. We all kept flashing or just dealing with the screen freezing.

Flashing an AT&T tilt with an Official HTC Rom

Hello,
I have recently bought a AT&T Tilt, and would like to flash to the current Offcial HTC WM 6.1 ROM.
I have done alot of reading in the wiki here and various FAQ threads and what not. But i am still a bit confused with a few things.
I have read the ROM Flashing faq and Intro here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
And i understand all that.
I also undestand that i need the Key board fix from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334911
But thats not hard.
I went here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
I checked my device and the rom currently on it is the AT&T WM6.0 1.57.502.2 Original Shiped Rom.
I figured, being in Australia, i would need rom that had WWE as the country? So i downloaded the "RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship" rom. Is this an appropriete ROM for what i want?
BUT Its all this stuff about SPL's and what not that is confusing me.
My Tilt is SIM unlocked because i am using it on the Telstra network here in Australia. But im not sure if i have to change SPL's or not and if so, which spl i need and how to change it?
It would be greatly appreciated if someone was able to help me understand this SPL bussiness, because i really dont want to dive straight in a risk my device. I have done a fair bit of reading and i'm a fairly competent computer user so it won't take me long to learn.
Thanks in advance,
eMiller
you have to CID unlock it. this involves flashing the device with HardSPL then running a unlocker program. (this is what i know from Hermes, so i don't know if it is exactly the same on Tilt). It breaks the warranty though, so think first, then jump
by the way, you should try a cooked rom. in my experience, HTC roms are not that good, except for getting a stable radio. get the radio, then get a new OS rom, like hang.tuah or something.

Try this one:

Look for the Zip file at the very bottom of the screen this hard spl will let you flash any rom (follow the instructions the spl gives you exactly and dont get nervous if it appears stiuck for a bit), just make sure you know which ROM you really want to flash at the end
.
Again same stuff.
Guys, when you gonna learn to read everything which is realted to your device when you want to do something?
Everything is in Wiki, everything you need is posted in ROM threads.
Come on GUYS!
read the f**** wiki. you need hardspl. its not that hard to figure out if your not an imbisel
@joel2009: That is a little harsh. Also, if you're going to call someone an imbecile, you should probably spell it right.
@eMiller12 (fellow noob): I don't know if I would bother with the HTC ROM, I just flashed it and I am finding a few really annoying bugs... Read Jocky's STICKY post about the HardSPLs to learn how to flash one. It really is quite simple--and it's unlikely that you're going to brick your device, so no worries.
Hey FireMedic, thanks for understanding.
I have read through the Wiki a fair bit, i was just unsure which versions of hardSPL etc where best for the [email protected] Tilt inparicular. But i will just use this one that vorostatz recomended if that is the best one for the tilt.

search forums using google (at top right)
yeah, exactly... I was pretty scared to hardspl when I first started.
Hardspl 3.29 seems to be the best one, check my signature after you've read the hardspl sticky.
From what I understand, a rom flash might try to write a different spl which is obviously bad. hardspl prevents this.
If you ever need to, you can undo it. Kyphur explains in the hardspl sticky how to change them, by running a program named jumpspl 1.56 (on your device) with your sim and sd cards out and then flashing the spl normally.
Just make sure you follow directions for your device and try different roms.
Good luck and feel free to ask questions, even if some of the people here have heard them way too often.

Actually the WWE (World Wide English) one seems to be used more in Europe and this side of the world. For down-under, they use SEA South East Asia versions. There are issues with ROM compatibility in Australia specifically (at least in the WM 6.0 days) so if you want to know the best official WM 6.0 and 6.1 ROMs, short of searching for what setups Australian xda-dev forum members are using, you could look at the devices on sale in the shops. If you're wanting WM 6.1 just to have the latest and greatest, think again and have a look at the Windows Mobile 6 vs. Windows Mobile 6.1 thread.
***Edit*** Also note that there are two Australian specific ROMs in the WM 6.0 section of the Kaiser HTC ROM wiki

Jump SPL helps you to install HardSPL. HardSPL is what you need to flash ROMs other than stock ROMs.
I went into the bootload to check my SPL and when I did, it says SPL-1.0.OliPof
Should I update/upgrade it? Does it make any difference?
Short answer is that generally speaking 3.29 or above works best w/ WM 6.1 and 3.34 or above works best w/ 6.5 ... but as always YMMV.
Hard-SPL for Kaiser is tough thing to unravel, so here's a splendid resource --> Kaiser Hard-SPL Rollup Thread
BTW, there's two versions of 3.29 and 3.56 -- .Hard by jockyw2001 and .Hard2 by cmonex, and to this day I'm not entirely sure why...

Rom Issues...

PREVIOUS COMMENTS:
Default Kaiser Rom???
Just got a Kaiser for ATT USA, i have it updated to the WM6.1 from ATT. But I'd really like to use on the cooked ROMs from this site. I've used a lot when I had a T-Mobile Wing.
Here is info on my phone
Rom Ver: 3.57.502.2 WWE
Radio: 1.65.21.18
What ROMs can I use?
NOTE: I'm still using T-Mobile and would like something that will work with the MMS and email...
NEW COMMENTS:
Maybe I should have worded that differently...
What I mean is that I am a new Kaiser owner, I do NOT know how to update the ROM, I took the suggestion at the end of my first post which was to read the Sticky's. I did that I followed different directions. HOWEVER, i can not get the hardSPL to update or install. So that is now my question. If that won't update, I won't be able to update my ROM???
Please do not make new threads when threads exist.

Follow guide any ?'s ask in the thread.
Closed.
You should put this post in the Kaiser General Question, cos more people will help you out then, i havent had my HTC TyTN II long and i followed the instructions from the stickies and everything worked, i installed hardspl without no problems whatsoever, so i dnt know whats going wrong with yours, normally when the phone starts up it should tell you which hardspl you have in red writing along with Radio version and Rom info, if you tried to install hardspl 3.29 and it worked then it will say that when the phone begins.
