MDA-Vario Upgrade with the new TNT 19213 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Hi fellows,
I have a T-Mobile MDA-Vario (= HTC Wizard, = Qtek 9100, etc.)
************************************************** ****
I upraded it due to Faria's "The Definite Guide to Unlocking & ROM Upgrading G3 Wizzards" with the following files for the upgrade
* button rom; CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe (for downgrading first)
* wizard_love ROM: Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar
* Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102.exe
* T-mobile adapted ROM : ruu_prodigy_226102_22610105_022511_tmous_wwe_ship. exe (Dr Puttingham)
* button rom : Wizard_Button_Rom.exe
so the momentary datas read on my MDA Vario (still a G3 device) are:
IPS: 2.26
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.26.10.02 WM v5.1.195.3
AKU: 2.3.0 (Adaptation Kit Update)
Page Pool: 12 MB
overclocked: 260 MHz
As far as I can say is this configuration a stable and robust one. Even TomTom and NavNGo iGO-8 are working fluently. As an english speaking German I really do not care about an english or german WM6-Version,
because there is not a real clean comparable German Version around. Or do you no one?
I want to use the MDA mostly as a PPC and car-Navigator (not that much as a phone). So my questions now are:
1. Does it make sense to upgrade my MDA-Vario to the new TNT 19213 Series with the WM-6 Pro Edition (i suppose MS-Office Mobile is included) by "its right"? Thanks to its right for that ROM.
2. Or should I try the Vanilla Edition with the stable running HTC_TouchFlo? Is the MDA's screen not too small?
In case somebody can recommend one, could you please tell me, which files I need for upgrading and give me a step by step procedure in case the basic proceeding should be different from Faria's Guide? How large should be the page pool for car-navigating?
Should my MDA-Vario remain as a G3 device (some recommended this) or should I turn it in to a G4? Exspecting some answer I want to thank you in advance for your help, with regards astorgus!

your phone is a G3 device,it'll remain G3 always, you cannot change it to G4 through any software or otherwise, its manufactured as G3 DOC CHIP M-System Flash chip,a G4 device is altogether a different DOC Chip version.Yes! you can change the DOC Chip or the whole Motherboard of the phone replacing it with G4 ,or buy a new G4 phone.
The present Rom running on your device is a wm5 version and a very old build, its always better to upgrade to newer version wm6,as it boosts the performance and with much better applications and programs which suite you.Definitely ,upgrading is always recommended
YUP ! TNT 19213 series is a top most Rom,but you can try others also.
As your phone is already CID unlocked, you don't need to do any other procedure to upgrade, just download the latest wm6 or wm6.1 rom and hook up the phone and flash it.It'll upgrade to the latest Rom,ENJOY !!!

Mr zabardast
Have you tried the pdaviet wiza vista 6.1 .19213 rom? is it good? whats your recomendation?

Is it the right time to upgrade to AKU3?

I am using my Xda neo (flashed with traditional chinese version ROM, version 5.1.195(build 14847.2.0.0).
I believe I am using AKU2 and am wondering if this is the right time to upgrade to AKU3?
I have some questions:
1. What is "G3", "G4"? How can I know which one my Xda neo is?
2. I saw "AKU3 rom" with many different "'pool size". What they mean?
3. Any complete one-stop AKU3 package/procedures which I can just download and follow, in order to upgrade my Xda neo to AKU3?
Any BAD effect for AKU3 has been known on Xda neo so far?
Thanks
When your phone starts up you can see IPL and SPL at the boot screen, if it ends with .0001 then you have a G4 and when it does not you probably have a G3. Example: 2.15.0001 = G4
You cannot put a rom for G3 on a G4 and vice versa, it will brick your phone.
And I can't really comment which ROM is better since I'm still searching for a good ROM myself The AKU 3.2 seems to have some buggies, although the AKU 2.3 seems to be quite stable (reading from other people their comments).
As for pool size, I quote:
The large the paging pool is, the more code pages can present in RAM simultaneously -> the less loads from slow ROM -> the faster the device is.
Click to collapse
It seems they come with all different pool sizes. My guess is they cost some memory to gain some speed. But I have also read some people had some problems with the bigger pool size. So I guess you might wanna do a search for that.
And as for your question 3. I'm still trying to figure that out myself.
I know I have a G4 device, the IPL/SPL = 2.10.0001 but still I'm not quite sure which version is the best to use. e.g. the pdamobiz version says it's for 2.15.0001, it's for G4 but does that work on my device? I have no idea lol
And it also seems the Wiki isn't fully complete in that perspective. Once I know more I surely will try to update the wiki.
G4 roms on G3 device..?
Quote: Since HTC issued new IPL/SPL version 2.xx.0001, all tools that we use to cook the customize rom to be a single nk.nbf file can not be used because nk.nbf structure are different from the previous version. We were trying to hard to solve the problem. Futunately, we found the new method that save and convenince, because it will not touch with bootloader. Just active sync prophet with pc then run UPGRADE_ROM.bat.
This method can be used with any version of IPL/SPL of SPV M600, Qtek S200, i-mate JAMin, Dopod 818 Pro, XDA neo. Need not to unlock CID.
This is from the PDAmobiz thread, and if I get it right it says that you can install any rom (G3 or G4) on both G3 and G4 devices, if you just follow their instructions..
Is this true? Cause im thinking about trying their rom on my G3 device..
Can you upgrade a G3 to a G4 bootloader?
Thanks
Well, that is what I'm trying to figure out too It says so on their website although some confirmation about that might be nice.
And the filename of that ROM says it's for 2.15.0001. But I have no idea they named it like that to show it's for G4's or it's only for 2.15.0001 if you know what I mean.
And no, you cannot upgrade G3 to G4 bootloader as far as I know.
It would be really nice to know..
Im tried the "16Mb_AKU2.3_GSM02.30.21_Extrom-4PDA.ru.exe" ROM and it was really nice and fast.. Unfortunately it turned itself off in the middle of the night after just 2 days, and I can't afford to loose an important call (from work or whatever)..
Therefore im looking for a stable and still fast ROM that will work on my G3..
Just trying to speed things up...
I agree with the sentiments of Reef exactly. I am using the official I-mate ROM for my G3 Jamin. I would love to increase the speed of my device and decrease boot time from a soft reset. The 3.2 ROMs are tempting, but clearly have some showstopper problems. I was about to download and flash the 16MB AKU2.3 rom, but reading this thread stopped me. I am on call and rely on my phone 24/7.
I guess I have the same questions as Reef: Is there a rock-stable, fast 2.3 ROM with the paging file modification out there?
Is I-mate ever going to release an "official" upgraded ROM?
Does anyone have some more feedback on the cooked ROMs they're using?
Alan
At the moment I'm running AKU 2.3 with Radio ROM 2.30.21, G4 Device. And I must say it's very stable. Didn't even have to reset device yet.
I'm using: "PDAMobiz Editon Upgrade Rom for SPL 2.15.0001 v2307 - 16MB" from PDAMobiz.
Did try the AKU3 but I have to try to get it to work savely on my device, so for the moment I would say "no" to AKU3 for the Prophet...
Will test it for a week or so, will keep you all posted
By the way, as for the speed it's just slightly faster than my HTC Wizard with AKU3.2 both @ 240MHz But that could also be because of all the tweaks made to my Porphet. Will get back on this

downgrade wm6 to wm5!

Hy...I have a G4 model, Qtek s200, and i was wondering if I will install a wm6 version, and if I will not be satisfied, can i downgrade to wm5 back?
I think so... Even if have CID locked, but i'm not quite sure. Anyone correct me if i'm wrong please!!
Hi:
I have one HK 818pro G4 model and have tried wm6.0 and downgrade to wm5.0,
it's no problem.
palo
Yeah, it's no problem to downgrade! I played yesterday with some different WM5 ROM's (Orange UK, Qtek and O2) on my G4 XDA Neo and had no prpoblems at all time!
up
so, i don't have to follow some specials steps...the normal way, no?
Yes, just follow the normal steps to do it. By the way, which WM6 rom you will try?! Looks like the smart1 clear it's good.
up
first of all: i want to install a wm6 version, but i don't know which one ... I have G4 model..can you give me an advice? also, i want without bugs if i can (that's the first reason that i didn't try yet)... i mean, to connect on wap, to work fine the new wm6...if you know what is the "perfect" version to install on my device, i am waiting your opinion
There is no "perfect" WM6 yet but the SMART1 WM6 Rom (clear) it's quite good... in this thread they talk about it and is litle bugs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295225
I tried Smart1's WM6 ROM and successfully downgraded it to WM5 (I-mate) portuguese ROM by just using the normal procedure.
The problem is it doesn't work properly with Windows Vista. Don't try to upgrade to WM6 on Vista as it wont work properly!
Cheerz!
up
so your advice is to wait another version more reliable of wm6? i supouse that wm6 = win vista isn't it?
Just a question about downgrading - I read somewhere in the forum that it is important NOT to downgrade to a lower IPL or SPL because it will brick the device. is it so?
Hi,
Would like to know too how to downgrade without risking to brick my device...
I have a G4 that I upgraded to WM6 recently (SMART clear rom).
I liked WM6 but I have to remove it because it is only compatible with ActiveCrap 4.5, which doesn't support outlook 2000 anymore (version used at my office) .
my IPL/SPL : 2.10.0001
I would like to downgrade to last AKU 3.3 (couldn't backup my wm5 rom since my prophet is CID locked). Can I downgrade to AKU 3.3 safely?
Thank you very much
Yes, you can do it safely! My Neo is a G4 too and I switched often between smart1 clear WM6, the official O2 update, ASerg's 3.3.12 US nad the Qtek 2.20 with no problems!

HI I am using I-mate jasjar and upgrade to Wm 6. After that there is no video call option on that. Now I want to downgrade to WM 5. How can I do this? Where can I download WM 5? Please send all the details to my email [email protected].

I am noob in windows mobile I have just switched from nokia n73 to HTC S710. Some people think it was not a good idea but anyhow. 4 days back I tried to upgrade my cousins gene but after applying HSPL it was dead. I asked a lot of people in gene subform how recover, in the end a Rom chef told me if I had bought phone this year then there is no solution to it. So finally I had to take it to HTC service centre and they have asked me to check after 5 days.
Now I have bought Vox myself so learning from past experience I am asking you guys first. I have read wikki though.
1) Which is the fastest but most stable rom? (Which does not have bugs)
NEO ROM for Vox v0.9 [New XIP 20202]
Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1
Or Hikey's Rom tell me the version.
or someother.
2) From my information given Which USPL should I use 1.16 or 1.34 or 1.35 and also can I use them or will they brick my phone?
My Device Info
Boot Loader
Vox
ONBL 1.34.0000 wifi
LG
Vox
SPL 1.34.0000
Vox IU
CPLD - 04
OS From about
Windows Mobile 6 Standard
CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4)
Radio Version 4.1.13.54_03_.10.90
RIL Version 2.002
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
Tipu
First you should decide whether you want WinMo 6.0 or 6.1. As far as I heard the ROMs with the new XIPs are faster. I would say the Neo ROMs are the fastest 6.0 ROMs. For 6.1 there isn't such a huge difference But my experience is that the 96 dpi ROMs are pretty fast, but they are by far not bug free. Otherwise you have to decide what software you need. Gonzo's ROM has everything in it, my Lite ROM is pretty much the same, just without some apps.
In the Wiki is a list of hopefully most ROMs.
For USPL the 1.16 is definately working, as it did for over a year now. I don't know if the newer ones have any advantages or not. If you go to the wiki and follow the guides carefully you should not brick your phone. Link is in my signature.
My SPL is 1.34.000 as I have seen from my bootloader information. So can I use 1.16.
Is Neo Rom .9 bug free, have you tried it also I have read few threads people saying Hikey's WM6.1 roms are stable but does not have his thread here. From my information given is stock rom for my current os available somewhere.
It is on the XDA-dev ftp. There are a couple of shipped ROMs.

Hikey Chinese ROM is the fastest. Try it and see its amazing speed...

MDA Vario WM6

I'm not a developer - just a dumb user!!!!
Just got hold of a MDA Vario (T-Mobile originally, but I unlocked it as I use O2 network in the UK and VIP in Croatia) which I also upgraded from WM5 to WM6.
MDA Vario has OMAP850-195MHz CPU processor; model type is WIZA200; platform iz PocketPC.
Are these h/w & s/w platforms XDA compatible? If not, which links should I follow for Q&A which are relevant to my device?
Thanks
(Desperate)Dan
You have a HTC wizard, probably the g4 variety. Start with the stickied topics in the wizard section, and the wizard wiki section, and just keep reading.
Thanks for the reply. I started following your advice and reading the posts. Not that I understand much yet.
I think I may have G3 version as the following shows when I boot the device:
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.06
GSM 01.12.10
OS 10.1.0.811
Not sure which ROM i have and how to find out?
It seems that my device is both SIM and CIM unlocked - I backed Wizard to my PC's c: drive (via a Storage Card).
If I were to upgrade the ROM should the IPL and SPL become 2.x versions and will the GSM and OS also have higher number versions?
If newer versions of IPL, SPL, GSM and OS are desirable which ROM should I upgrade to?
Is upgrading the ROM (done via RUU, I understand) different from upgrading the OS - currently WM6 - to WM6.1? I assume ROM and WMx upgrades are unrelated, unless some ROMs are not supported on a specific WMx version. If WM6.1 is a better and more stable version of the OS where can it be found?
Lots of questions, I know, but that's due entirely to my ignorance, as you can see from my questions. Hopefully, your replies may help me understand better these issues.
Thanks & regards
Dan
You should read the wiki:

Good luck!
Flashing a ROM in your device is just like installing a windows version on your pc.The rom installs the OS so if you install a wm5 ROM you will have wm5 if you install a wm6.1 ROM you will have 6.1.
Listen to the advices above and read all about it and most importante try to understand well before you try anything or you might get a tech-no-logic papperweight for christmas

Considerations before reflashing my Vox into Spanish

Hi guys
I've a HTC S710 loaded with fireburned's 6.1 Custom ROM:
CE OS 5.2.20757 (Build 19202.1.0.0)
Radio Version 4.1.13.37_02.83.90
The phone works awesome. It is the best rom it ever/will had/ve
Now, I must sell it, because the phone doesn't have 3G (provider don't want to sell me a 3G plan for this phone) and must go online mobile, so:
To sell it, it must sell the phone with spanish lang as default
1) The only spanish ROM is this. Can I apply this one to my phone?
ftp://xda:[email protected]_SPA_1.34.412.1_4.1.13.54_03.10.90_Ship.exe
2) Can I install a spanish language pack without flashing?
3) Ir spanishrom's radio version is lower than actual, will I crash the Vox?
Thanks a lot in advance,
1) Yes you can
2) No you cannot
3) This ROM also includes a Radio version. It will work just fine.
thanks frauhottelmann !!
