Good Riddance KaiSer - Welcome Back Universal! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Good Riddance KaiSer - Welcome Back Universal!
My daughter was after me for a while to give her the KaiSer, the UNi is still alive from ROMs ported from HTC Diamond, which is a VGA like UNi, so I decided why not!
Back to UNi with it VGA screen and fast, stable, excellent, beautiful WM6.1 ROMs.
Maybe, my next purchase will be HTC Diamond, which is a VGA!

Salam Ayyu3m,
UNi is something!
I am not sure about HTC Diamond without a stylus and using my greasy fingers!
Mohamed

Congratulations and... welcome back!!!

Salam Mohamad
A very wise decision, i have taken it 2 days ago aftert the fake Kaiser upgrade realease from HTC. One week ago, i called a friend to me who is working in a PPC shop, asked him to send me a universal to try the new ROMs here in Uni forum. I couldn't hide my gladness when i catched my old friend again after a months playing with the different handicapped devices with 2.8" QVGA screens. I was greatly delighted with the first look again at the big VGA screen of Uni, and the very productive keyboard, i recognized how i was suffering with other devices along the past months. But, i waited for the end of rumors about the new driver that should be released by HTC for Kaiser, and once i discoverd that it is a fake, i told my friend to sell my Kaiser at once, and now i am very happy with my friend "Jasjar".
I see that Diamond is a great deal and it has a lot of innovation from HTC, but really i will think thousands of times before buying another HTC products after their fake upgrade of Kaiser. The only device that may i get in near future is the ultimate 9502, but there is 2 reasons only preventing me. The first is it's 2.8" screen and the second is there is no support for it by xda-developers.

Thank You All, Dear Friends!!!

I' dlike to say thank you for all of this forum.
I lerned a lot of my Uni also, thanks to you I solved many problems.
Especially to Laurentius26 and Jwrightmcps - the kings of Universal WM 6 - I gladly used their fantastic products and ideas.
But from today I'm happy owner of MDA Ameo (HTC Ahena) so I'm going to that forum. And my Universal, which I like a lot, will be sold.
Good luck people, fight for official Universal WM6 from HTC - it's worth of it.
Hope we'll meet on forums with new HTC products.
Hey! me too gurus! I lerned a lot of too... but until my UNI will be sell I'm keep the eye on here, as an everyday!.
Thaks! again

Buying PPC - Suggestions needed

Hi
Im currently using HTC Magician but im lookin to buy a better second-hand ppc (i-e which can support later versions of WM).
Wizard and Prophet are the 2 PPCs im considering at the moment
I need your suggestions as to which PPC I should go for (keeping in view the financial constraint) and some points in favour of your suggestion.
Im looking forward to your suggestions

Wow, you really are going for some older hardware there! In fact, it may be difficult to find new Wizards and Prophets!
If you want to save money, you are probably going to be better off at this point going with a Hermes or a Kaiser. I can personally recommend the Hermes as I have had one, but I know lots of Kaiser owners out there who love their machines too. Both are well-rounded machines with loads of functionality. I haven't looked lately, but I bet you could get a new Hermes for around US$300 if you shopped around a little. Kaisers will probably be a bit more.
If you are looking for something smaller and don't need the keyboard, you can probably find a good deal on an Elf.
All three of these models were very popular, but have pretty much run their course. No doubt some merchants who have over-bought these models are trying to get rid of them before they become completely obsolete.
Well that depends on what are your needs form a PPC
Look here and compare: http://pdadb.net/
been a wizard users for the past 3 months, have to say its a nice phone, havent tried the Prophet (yet )
as said above, try to compare both of the phones
edit : saw that ur from pakistan , nice to see ya, im from karachi though..but currently in Bahrain
I just upgraded from a Prodigy/Wizard to a Kaiser/TyTN II. It's a huge step up. I'd recommend a Hermes/TyTN or a Kaiser/TyTN II over a Prodigy/Wizard.
I tried several WM 6.1 ROMs on my Wizard, but development on each halted.

I live in Pakistan, there are alot of Wizards available and I can get a second-hand wizard in good condition for $90-100. Ive checked on Hermes, It is available for almost $270-290 (second-hand)
Im giving prices as I want to get maximum out of my savings (same old problem with students!)
I tried e-bay but no one out there seem to ship it to my country

The Kaiser/TyTN II is the only one with an official WM 6.1 upgrade. Both the Prodigy/Wizard and the Hermes/TyTN have unofficial WM 6.1 ROMs (made by the cookers here at XDA). Most of the unofficial WM 6.1 ROMs for the Wizard have been abandoned by their cookers.
the kjam is the Wizard, the Jamin is the Prophet

i would angree with that, have you taken a look in the wizards section?, a new ROM releases every day, esp the TouchHD CRS Series
thats why im taking ur expert opinion that which ppc should I buy
just weigh all the pros and cons and gimme a suggestion - ill go for it!
i have a hermes with t-mobile 6.1 ROM. Its a very good allrounder. Decent performance.
I just upgraded to a Kaiser and ams o far very impressed. Big step up in general performance over the hermes. A lot more responsive.
But a good deal more expensive too.
if you can stretcht to a Kaiser i'd get that. otherwise the Hermes is a very capable device.
ELFin
This week a pal bought a Mint ELFin for US$350.00 shipping included via Ebay. I've owned many smartphone and some touch phones...as I keep saying...the EFLin to today is my favorite. Why? Small, with a pcm keyboard, Manila, and a few other goodies, it will give a run to any phone out there on the market.
Paul

Do you still use your device?

This is just an interest of mine to know about how many of the devices are alive and still being used.
Please answer correctly.
The poll is reserved for the users/owners of:
HTC Universal / O2 XDA Exec / Qtek 9000 / SPV M5000 / T-Mobile MDA-Pro / Imate Jasjar / Dopod 900 / SFR v1640 / Vodafone v1640 / Vodafone VPA IV / Grundig GR980 / E-Plus PDA IV.
.
Of course!
Uni is my main device for working and personal
I use it to read txt files, very nice!
No plans to part with mine
even though I use a second mobile now, hehe.
You see, I always wanted something incredibly stylish, like LG Prada, so had a chance to purchase one in a messy state for next to nothing, repair it, bring it to brand new condition and use it... until I got a chance to get LG KU990 Viewty that was run over by a car, possibly more than once, hehe. So now I am torn between Prada and Viewty... and Uni enjoys its very own separate SIM...
The thing is, the only feature Uni lacks is elegance and grace, while both Prada and Viewty lack features (must add that hacking and modifying Viewty proved to be as satisfying as upgrading WM). Although the camera on Viewty is fantastic, I no longer use my regular Canon or Casio cameras at all, so that's another thing Uni lacks. Other than that - it's one amazing machine!
I also run my other toys for a day or so from time to time, just to keep the button and ROM habit - Wizard, Elf and a whole bunch of various others. And look out for new ROMs for my other toys as they come out, of course.

Very good for the Medical profession as well. You only need to look at the Voting in the Device poll to see how popular they are as well.

Qtek 9000 is my best friend.
QTek 9000 love it use it everyday and loosing to much time waching movies and listening to mousic on it. Also thinking what am i going to choose for my next phone. May be a triple e pc with gsm ??? who knows...
Hi Tomal,
meanwhile I use my MDA Pro for about 3 years every day. I use it for :
special studies and research,
telefon,
mp3-player,
video,
PIM
...and a lot more.
Your ROMs are one reason that I did not buy a new ppc up to now.
So, please, proceed in building your brilliant ROMs.
Yesterday I bougth a second htc universal (VPA IV) + 2pcs 64RAM chips in order to try an upgrade to 128MB Ram. I'd like to use your next 6.5 ROM!
So, please go on cooking!
Best Regards,
Thomas

Universal is my all in one for the last 2,5 years.
I can get a new device but only with a 144€ discount. I don't want to pay 400€ more to get the HD, even more because I see no big improvement(taking in accoount the money to spend)
I would like to upgrade the memory to 128, but the only offers till now are 100€ which is expensive...
Cheers
I use it every day -Work and fun-and don´t see any reason to change for a new one.
Jasjar. gr8 processor
My Universal is my second favorite device, right after my precious Athena.
I hope you'll continue cooking your magical ROMS
i use my HTC Universal
I have O2 XDA, and i used to use it a lot.
recently i am using it less at work dut to new camera resrictions on some areas however i still use it a lot, as my phone, e-mails and even as GPS.. i can't go anywhere without it -
I'm using it for 2 years since now. It's my first mobile device!
So please, Tomal, go on cooking!!!
Shuvo nabo barsho!

Rhodium

Hi all,
I have had my Rhodium for one week now and can happily say that I have finally found a worthy replacement for my beloved Uni.
Just thought you would all like to know that there is finally a worthy replacement.
Check out the user reviews over in the Rhodium general forum for more info.
I know that there are a lot of you here who, like myself, have been waiting for a long time for a decent succesor to the Uni.
Well now there is.
There are some excellent contract deals over at mobile phones direct
www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk
I haven't been able to find any better deals on the net than this and as an added bonus the device comes unlocked without any branding (currently)
Have a read through the Rhodium forum and if you have been waiting for a decent upgrade, take the plunge now whilst the deals are good and the device is unbranded.
Good bye Uni forum, will miss all the great users here that have supported me and the many friends I have made here.
Cheers,
Beasty
Thanks Beasty
Your comments are well aprecited
I am aware of Rhodium and afeter this post maybe I consider to buy one
Shame we don´t see you in Uni
Anyway I´ll keep my Universal!!!

Hey Orb,
I still have my treasured Uni too, and will never foresake it, still running my own build on her too.
I must say though that the Rhodium truly is a replacement.
Too much on at work to spend much time in the forums these days, least of all working on any Rom Development.
Things will calm down after summer though, and I shall start on Rom Dev again, but probably in the Rhodium forum.
The Rhodium is so fast on the stock Rom, it blows all other devices away even with the great Roms we have from all the Devs here, the Rhodium on stock is still the fastest device I've seen. Can't wait to see how it performs once we can Develop our own flavours.
Buy one, you won't regret it.
Cheers,
Beasty

Can't wait for beast to port the Rhodium ROM to the Uni ha ha!
Ah well, yes, I'll be buying a Rhodium... but I'm going to wait until their nearer the £150 mark in eBay first. So not for a few years yet, I think there's still a little bit of life left in the Uni yet.
Nice machine, though, everything I'd want in a Uni upgrade.

Hah...hah...ha...very well said.
I have to agree with JonMorgan...
I like the HD and Rhodium is also nice( even not using KB a lot), but the price it to high for me.
I prefered to buy a netbook ( not as Asus Beasty, lol). I got the HP mini 1000 for 270€ (20% discount over sell price, great deal)( I'm using it to type this message).
400, 500, 600€ is way to much for a pda/phone.
If I can get a HD near 300, maybe I'll think about it, but if we keep to get new ROMs for Uni, the next buy will take some time.
Beasty, if you keep the Rhodium for a long time as the Uni, maybe we will meet again (how's life?). Did Leo also moved, he he?
Cheers

Need some advice regarding future purchase

Hi all, I come here to seek for your valuable knowledge... I'm kind of in the middle of a dilemna here. I want to upgrade from my HTC Touch Diamond, which I love of course, but seems like a VGA screen isn't an option anymore, and the Ram as well as that processor are getting to old and to small for my needs.
So I've been longing for the Touch Pro 2 for about , well, since it was anounced back in february, but then, the Touch HD2 aka Leo showed up, which, IMHO, spec-wise is the phone I want inside the Touch Pro 2... 4.3" is too big for my pocket...
Plus, we're approaching October 6th, so WinMo 6.5 is just around the corner, and I my guts tells me that the Leo is the first of many devices with those specs...
So, basically, here is my question:
Drop off 600 euros for a cellphone whom form-factor I love, with basically the same specs as my Touch Diamond, or wait a couple more months to see what's coming up?
If you can wait a few months, great devices will be announced I´m sure.
if you are in a rush for a good device go for TP2 definitely.
Thank you Orb, I think that's what I will do.
Worst case scenario, I end up bying the TP2 for christmas
If there are more opinions, please feel free to enlighten me!

Seconded. My advice is to wait.
I hope Htc will anounce something else than the Leo tomorrow...
HTC with Keyboard!!
Sure they will.
Let Leo be in the main spot for some weeks more and then another device will displace Leo to 2nd position...
Hopefully this time with a hardware keyboard!!

That would be the best news ever! Leo with a keyboard would be as close to my dream device as possible.
I still need a d-pad, but I might be able to overlook it lol.
Please, please, please, HTC, surprise us with a Touch Pro 2 with all the Leo internals!
