anyone know of a distributor with stock or stock arriving soon? Expansys reckon 01/08/08 and im not waiting that long...
thats the standard battery?
a quick google shows the earliest as 24th July. Don't you want to wait and see what this extended battery with replacement back is like?

hell no, the thinner the better....
yeah i agree.. but it depends on how much thicker the phone is and how bad the existing battery is. At least it won't look ugly with a big ass bulge like some of the other aftermarket batteries
Play.com have the standard battery for £14.99. Out on the 9th
I have 2 on order!! Hehe

battery charging
How are you planning to charge your two extra batteries when you get them? I went through this on the Kaiser and it is kind of a pain to swap them out just to recharge them. Eventually I bought a third party charging stand with an external battery charger but, after two replacements that did not charge the battery, I gave up. Based on my three days with the standard battery, I would say it woud be a good idea to wait and get the dimensions of the extended battery. I have seen my battery getting drained in 3-4 hours (reminds me of the xda-flame).

Yes, but it's possible to make OEM-sized extended batteries... I'm carrying one on my Treo right now, just 25% more battery life.
Seidio does it., just wait.
iPower Pro PoGo
While on the road I'm using the iPower Pro PoGo to change my Diamond. I use an dual usb adapter that simultaneously allows charging and the use of the wired headset.
The PoGo is flat, 1/3" x 2" x 3 1/2", has a standard usb connector for the standard Diamond usb cable and it has at least 20 hours worth of extra charge. It fits nicely in my bag which I carry with me everywhere I go.

Charging tips for iPod , Sony PSP , Blackberry (all models), Treo 600(s)/700(s), Moto RAZR (V3), Samsung , Nokia , Sony Ericsson phones and other devices that use a mini-USB charging port
So if it is only for mini-USB ports, how can you plug it into the HTC 11 pin connection?

For charging/synching, the HTC 11-pin IS the miniUSB port.
The extra features that the HTC 11-pin connector (aka extUSB) is that it transports audio as well.
ExtUSB is one reason why I am HTC hardare fo' life.
But yes, anything that can be charged via USB and MiniUSB, can be charged via ExtUSB. Heck, I charge mine with an old Blackberry charger that is 5v @ .5mAh instead of 1mAh.

I hadn't thought about that but It really isn't going to be often that I will need more that one battery, I am only getting them for when I am out walking and I know its gonna be a long day, nice to have spares! and I will just charge them in the phone the night before!!
I will defiantly be getting an extended one if they ever come out too but for £14.99 each now you can't knock that!!

What I meant is that phisically you cannot connect a standard mini USB charger into the Diamond's 11 pin input. As the vendor says the do not provide an adaptor for HTC devices, so maybe he is using some extra stuff purchased somewhere.

i am not sure if we are talking about the same thing here.
but if you turn around your standard mini usb connection, you can insert it into the 11-pin usb and charge your phone, exchange data (depends on the quality of your cable), active sync etc.
you do not need the 11 pin usb connector for this.

There is definitely going to be an extended battery. Also to answer the question above there is also going to be a separate battery charger, so you can charge the battery in the phone and another one in the charger at the same time. Should satisfy most peoples requirements.
And to pre-empt the "how do you know" questions, its all on HTCs Diamond accessories page...
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_phone.aspx?i=163250
Ok, the extended battery isn't there yet, but the desktop charger states that it has two insert covers, one for normal battery and one for extended battery. Also those inserts can be bought separately.
I`ve just bought this from Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-Battery-De...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262
Works fine and for the total price of £10.98 for 2 batteries and a charger it seemed a bargain.
The only gripes I have are the HTC cable doesn`t fit the charger, it needs a mini USB cable which luckily I have several of. Also the 3 Leds for showing the charging state are very bright and light up the room.

I'm researching batteries with a view to getting the best life possible out of an XDA2 between recharges.
What replacement/spare batteries do people use and what is their power (mAh) rating?
What other things can people tell me on this?
I'm not averse to back-packs etc.
TIA
I have one of the batteries available on eBay. Seems the same as the original battery. I carry the spare in my belt case.
I got mine from www.pdamods.com and have been using it for three months now, must say better than the original and in fact looks like an original !!!
I have three batteries. One came with the unit, I bought another from the same shop, the third I bought 2nd hand. All appear identical and all 1200mah. I swap them through my XDA II every week or so so that they each get drained and recharged regularly. When not in use one is on charge in my desktop cradle in the office, other in my briefcase.
All seem to last about the same amount of time.
Must admit though since buying an integrated car kit for my XDA II (plus GPS) I do not have to swap batteries as often.
Ed
You can find batteries at 1400mAh, same size as the original and officially 20-30% increased autonomy.
Battery question
Thanks everyone for all the help you've given to me in the past. I have a couple battery related questions:
1. I just got a new battery from PCPockettechs. It is rated 3.8VDC 1200 mAh. The current battery in my XDA II is rated 3.7VDC 1200mAh. I have not tried the new battery yet and am worried that the extra 0.1VDC might cause it some harm. Does anyone know or have experience with this difference? Am i worrying for nothing?
2. The extra battery charger that is in the cradle - it does not appear to be working (the light does not come on). Does the XDA II battery have to be fully charged before it starts charging the extra battery? Does the cradle need to be plugged in to the AC (I have the EU cable which I cannot use) before it will charge or can it just be connected via USB as I do now?
Thanks again,
Sean
Hi,
When I purchased mine from www.pdamods.com it worked straight out of the box. Unless it is completely flat it should work even if charged for a short while, however you should charge it for 18 hours on the first charge.

As far a I know you have to use the AC adapter. USB won't work.
Not true, I charge it with the USB, however NOTE it does take longer
The MDAII charges on USB only too.
Not sure about charging an extra battery (that is what the question is about I think)
thanks guys. Yes, the MDA II or XDA II both charge in the cradle just on USB... however, will it also charge the extra battery just on USB? I don't think it will unfortunately.
On my other question: does anyone know if the 0.1VDC difference will make a difference? The battery appears to be the right size, shape, same connectors, etc. as the original battery - the only difference being this 0.1VDC.
Anyone with some good electrical/technical info that they could share would be great. It would put my mind at ease - or stop me from making a big mistake!
The MDA II charges on USB (in the cradle).
But for the extra battery to charge in the cradle you need to plug in the power (and then the light will turn on!).
As a external powersupply, it says that the capacity is 12000 MAh so enough for 12 charges, or do I make a mistake somewhere?
It seems that a miniUSB connection is suplied whit it so I shouldn't now why it wouldn't do the job and the size is (for me) acceptable with almost 3x3x0,5 inch, I mean for tracking at locations whitout electricity it could keep your GPS going.

12,000Mah!?!
Doubt it, must have been some serious squashing to get that much juice in there!
My laptop battery is twice the size of that and has 5100Mah capacity. Would be great to be able to charge it from that thing!

your laptop battery is also higher voltage, probably 12V.
think of the AA-size NiMh cells, the best ones are 1.2V 2800mAh.. two of those aren't close to the size of a laptop battery and yet they have higher mAh.
but you're right, 12000 mAh in that thing is utterly impossible
edit; anyone tried this?
http://www.instructables.com/id/Portable-USB-Charger-Version-2.0/
edit again; this seems more like a real product, but it's larger than the actual diamond is. not too convenient.
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=4125&t_mode=des
late edit; if a computer usb connection is too weak to charge the diamond, shouldn't it be possible to solder a cable that connects the diamond to two usb ports simultaneously?

I made a small calculation my 2000MAh is in size 40X35X10mm =14000mm3
The size of the 12000MAh is 74,93X74,93X14,986mm=84138,9704314
84138,9704314/14000=6,0099264593857142857142857142857
6,0099264593857142857142857142857 X 2000MAH (which is the size of my battery)=12019,85291877142857142857142857

That's true for another Li-Io-charger which I bought from DealExtreme. From what I can see, they don't check their inventory very thoroughly for function and quality. Most of the stuff is just fine, but there is also some junk - and my Li-Io-charger was among it.
Since they advertise it only for the PSP, I can imagine that it will not offer the high current to charge a working Touch Diamond.
Have fun!

I do agree with you that not everything is made off gold what they sell at DealExtreme, I also bought already some useless stuff from them but this item should be a verry big mistake from them cause there are rumors at there site about this item, I even doubt about it aswell and thats why I cancelled the order but after I made the calculation I am in doubt again.

Dear Willem ,
Thank you for your reply.
Item 19086 was shipped on 12/31/2008 after checking. The supplier informed that it is 12000mAh, we will keep the ticket open, please feel free to send the news once you got it?
Thanks a lot.

Received the battery
Received today the battery but the Mini USB doesn't fit at my Diamond the output is 5V 700mA anyone now or this is enough to use and charge my Diamond at the same time cause if this is possible I will try to make a custom cable.
Someone can tell me aswell which contacts are used to charge a phone on mini USB, as you can see it seems the contacts are about the same there is just a diference at the outside off the connector, the main outside connector is a standard plug but I don't now or there are connectors at the market to make from the standard connection a mini USB
The connector fits at my dock and is able to charge my phone so in case of emergency I can charge the extra battery that way
Here some pictures
http://84.104.255.96/connector/index.html
Well I tested the battery and the outcome is disapointing, could charge my 2000mAh battery once complete so I gues all the critics about it where right, I have contacted Deal Extreem but untill now no answer.

that is nothing like an external wall charger and batteries.. you can have 2 batteries charging at once and have spare batteries.. are you dense.. nothing like haveing to charge the battery IN THE PHONE!!!!
not sure if a lot of folks are just unaware, but every phone i've had charged fine from a usb port off my computer
since i started tethering my phone to my laptop (browse the web from family couch) december 2009, i haven't used the wall charger
even if i'm not tethering, i've got a spare usb cable on the desktop, that when i sit down at the desk, the phone or whatever device, gets connected to - far more convenient and fewer items occupying space on the desk
plus, i've got that Tmo car charger that just has a usb port on it's end - so the same cable that i use to tether to the laptop (when in the car), if i'm using the phone in the dock for nav, runs down to the charger - the charger, with no cable hanging off it when not in use, let's me leave the charger in the socket 24/7 - no looking for it in the glove box and untangling it etc
that charger is simply converting the 14V car voltage to 5 V the USB port normally delivers
2 - 3.5 hours seems to take my 1150mah battery from low charge to full
for what it's worth
Lack of available accessories and software bugs, seems to me that Samsung rushed this thing to beat the iphone4 deadline.
But since they sell this thing in so many countries and networks I expect they will have little choice but to support it properly.

i've come to the conclusion electronic items (especially memory cards) are best not sourced on ebay
that review that engadget.com had about aftermarket batteries, really about the extra capacity batteries that ended up demonstrating that only the really oversized (ie double capacity batteries) even came close to their state mah rating, ended up suggesting the OEM batteries are the best way to go

Dense? You said this on the title which I assume is your question, but can't tell cause of your grammar, "damnit where are the spare batteries and wall chargers already." How the hell was I suppose to know that you wanted a external battery charger from that writing. Learn to write so others can understand what you are saying. Nothing in your question indicated an external battery charger. Just spare batteries and a wall charger. Sorry for not being psychic.
i see a lot of 1500mAh batteries on ebay, but the feedbacks from the sellers sounds like they are dogdgy, also the wall chargers looks horrible it's supposed to be a universar charger, but darn, those thing looks scary, i don't want a battery to blow up mid charge.

however i'm waiting for the next one with EXTRA battery charger meanwhile phone is docked as the one they have for the HTC Desire
What do you mean finally out ? There were generic cradles/phone holders/stands you could use with a Galaxy S on eBay for some time now. This one is no different, not a genuine accessory and it is just a plastic stand, with no extras (support for charging an additional battery). You even have to manually plug in the data cable separately after placing it ion the stand. I don't see any difference between this and any other generic phone holder + a micro USB data cable
Following item (eBay) at least supports charging an additional battery.
AFAIK those ones on ebay can't charge both the Phone and Spare battery at the same
time from one power source (ie. the AC adapter).
Which means the AC adapter will charge either the phone or the spare battery while
you need another AC adapter or USB cable hooked up to an alternate power source to
simultaneously charge both.
Very cumbersome if you ask me.
I don't know why they couldn't find a way to make the dock charge both via the AC adapter...
ohhhhhhhhh i like it

Yes, its already available for sale in Australia, their online store says stocks are arriving on 29 Oct, not sure if you can walk in to a store and buy one now. But the price is even higher, 49.95 AUD ~ 47 USD 50 dollars for a charger ???

they need to make the phone go in upside down in the cradle so no external plug is needed to charge at the same time as the battery
second they need the damn twlauncher to be able to rotate full 180 as well as landscape like we could on my older n1... so the above is useable..
someone please samsung are you listening..
i agree, although now that i'm using LauncherPro the Twlauncher not having landscape mode has become less of a nuisance
the only problem is, have not yet been able to find a launcher that will let us do 180/360
so that we can flip the phone around and charge it
not to mention it gets better GPS reception in the car when side ways or upside down
Hi All,
Couldn't find this posted before so wondered if anyone could recommend a USB Battery Charger to change the batt from my Desire without the phone. I have a spare and going on travels want to be able to just leave the battery charging on its own and not use the phone all the time.
Ive seen quite a few on ebay and some look really dodgy with adjustable charging pins etc whereas others are ridiculously cheap and i can only imagine will ruin my battery.
Key points are it should be small, light, USB powered and whilst I accept it will not charge as good/full as through the phone - not to knacker my batt completely.
Cheers for any help.

I have been looking for the same thing and found a battery pack on Amazon for £25, manufactured by New Trent it has a 5000mAh battery in it and can recharge your phone at least 3 times.
I ordered the dual output version on Sunday, so hope to get it and try it out in a couple of days.
Using a Veho pebble here, works great
would be nice for a faster charge though, it seems a bit slow for 750ma

I've got one of those. It's really good, one of the outputs is 1A so charges up really quickly.
My only criticism is the on/off button is easily pressed by accident, but that's really looking for problems. Oh and it would have been nice if the usb socket to charge it was a microusb one so I could use the same lead as the phone.
It's a good battery pack.
It certainly sounds like it is going to be good.
With regards to charging the pack itself, does it come with a USB to mini USB charging lead?

Mine didnt come with any charger or leads but as I have a box full of that stuff it wasn't an issue.
Edit: I'm an idiot. It came with a lead with a selection of interchangable tips to fit most phones.
I forgot as this is now also living at the bottom of my tangled box of leads.
Thanks for the replies guys.
Yeah i actually had one of those external battery packs (5000mah) but found that you could not even get 2 full charges out of it and therefore not worth the extra weight/charge time.
Basically its misleading because the voltage of the battery is different to you phone battery and it need to be upscaled or something - there are quite alot of posts about it. Let us know if you manage to get 3 charges though - that would be good.
But anyone used external chargers for the a spare phone battery?
