Could SPL create ROM issues? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I saw this post over at the new 6.1 ROM thread and I couldn't avoid thinking that it makes a lot of sense. This is the post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2228205&postcount=203
I didn't want the post to be lost inside all the new 6.1/Video accel questions and complaints so I opened up this post. Mods feel free to close this post if it's redundant.
So I'm running Jocky's SPL as per the procedure to get out of the radio from hell (thanks for your efforts man!) and I loaded L26's Diamond ROM and noticed it started freezing for around 5 secs and then coming back. This morning I flashed to Dutty's new Diamond-based ROM and holy hell it was freezing for 10secs or more at a time. Before these two I was running an AT&T that ran fine, slow as hell, but never froze on me.
I'm running the HTC Official 6.1 now and I'll try it over the weekend and see if I get the same issue. Don't get me wrong; This post is not for me to find a ROM that doesn't freeze on my phone but rather investigate if there's any correlation between those random lockups and the SPL.
I remember having this issue with the Hermes depending on the ROM but never really thought about the SPL having anything to do with it.
Is this something worth investigating?

Mine also froze on the L26 & Dutty Diamond ROMS. I'm currently running the Death ROM beta and it's performing beautifully.
According to my device my SPL Version is:
SPL-1.0.OliPof

Orange Kaiser Upgrade of but REALLY Slow Now ;-(

Hi Guys, took the plunge and installed the HTC wm6.1 update on my 3month old UK Orange Branded Tytn.
TBH it was ok before - but i just wanted to see if it would be any quicker and fancied the threaded SMS as i used it on my n95 and it was easier to keep track of conversations. First problem was it would not run HardSPL and i got the white screen problem that i cured by following these instructions..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
I have been now able to install the new rom okay, BUT it is as slow as hell (I thought the orange firmware was bad lol) seems to be ok then it just jams - sometimes for a good few seconds. bit of a pain. The keyboard Touch screen and any buttons dont do anything, sometimes for up to 30s, then it all catches up with all the buttons iv pressed during the freeze ect being actioned, a nightmare.
I tried one of Duttys ROMS (Must say im very impressed with his work!!!) BUT Same problem as before the thing just freezes for a few seconds (doesnt crash - just freezes) its a pain trying to browse or send tst messages.
Have I done anything wrong in the upgrade, or is it "Orange care time"?
did u remember to hard reset ur device after flash?
Thanks for the reply,
I just ran the JumpSPL program then ran the rom exe file(S) The thing is fine, just as slow as hell - having to resort to my old n95 now ;-(
I didnt do a hard reset after i updated the rom, just activsync`d it and set it up
do a hard reset it should improve your rom spead. Some times when you flash a new rom and don't do hard reset files of the old rom are still on device and cause conflicts with the new rom that is why a hard reset is almost highly recommended after a rom flash.
Don't forget to back up your contacts, messages, documents on device as a hard reset will erase everything except spl, os, rom, radio.
good luck
ill give that a try, thanks
Can you let us know what ROM's you're running.
I'm on Orange (UK) and mine is much faster than the stock ROM now.
Do you have any other software running on it ? SPB Mobile Shell sometimes slows things down ...
Read my signature for the ROM's I'm using on the Orange Tytn II.
hi,
Where did you download the ROM from? The one from the HTC website only gives me the option to download Norwegian version....any ideas?
Thanks
EDIT I've jst downloaded RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship - Is that the ROM you used?
Just flashed my HTC TyTN II Orange, with the above ROM & everything is O.K at the moment, woo. lol
Iv tried the "Genuine"
RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship
and Duttys
Duttys_Ruu_Signed_5.2.19585_1_65_16_25_test
Tried doing a hard reset as suggested and im not running any other apps. Iv reflashed a couple of times today and both are still causing the same symptoms - touch screen suddenly not as responsive then the tytn freezes completely for a few secs, then its fine for a while.

I think the clue is in the title "...test'.
Dutty dropped off the scene for a couple of weeks due to work pressure and came back to play with the new 'official' ROM's.
The test ROM, is just that !! it's for testing. I would never suggest anyone with a posting score of less than 100 attempt to put TEST ROM's on their Tytn II ... There's already been some issues with Radio's that won't allow downgrading etc.
The test ROM has reports showing issues of a similar nature to those you mention.
I would suggest you re-install a more 'mainstream' ROM at this stage and wait for the test ROM to become stable.
I've had no problems with Dutty's Official WM6.1 5.2.19209 Rom or Polaris Radio 1.64.08.21 Radio, although I may upgrade to the 1.65.16.25 Radio in the next couple of days.
As a rule of thumb, problematic radios exhibit poor signal strength, sound issues and problems with GPS. The issues you mention are often associated with the OS rom, in this case the Duttys_Ruu_Signed_5.2.19585_1_65_16_25_test rom.
Even if changing just the OS Rom, it might be worth downloading, and installing them seperately again - Remebering to Hard Reset after each install.
Backup all your contacts etc. to your SD card with PIM Backup 2.8 before you do anything and remember to remove the SD card before you begin.

I've flashed my Orange Tytn2 and a friends without issue using the 'official' 6.1 rom that was posted on Modaco.
I didn't hard reset afterwards and both units are working fine. Maybe try flashing your device on a different pc?
As far as i was aware the title of this posting was "Orange Kaiser Upgrade of but REALLY Slow Now ;-( "
tbh i dont think you really got the gist of my post, i WAS saying i had problems with the STOCK ROM, and that i had also tried duttys rom (I was very impressed with it), If you read my posting i think you will realise i simply commented it was showing they SAME symptoms on my phone. My problem was NOT with duttys rom (btw i DID notice the word test in its name before i loaded it, but thanks for pointing that out), I was having problems with the flashing process in general.
Thanks anyway.

What are the symptoms ?
Have you added any other Software (i.e. programs or cabs) ?
Has the device got slower over time ?
What challenges are you having with problems with the flashing process ?
Are you using a screen protector as this reduces the touch sensitivity ?
Im not running any other programs or screen protector, the thing is fine for a minute or so then starts to slow down and reaches the point where nothing will happen and it locks up (for what feels like ages) prob about 30-43secs but its enough to cause grief if ur trying to send a txt with it or browse. Then it comes back to life and is fine again for a while, also getting a few error msgs saying that CProg has problems - (on all the 6.1 roms iv tried).
i have tried several roms (inc stock roms) and although i have read postings in modoco about the new 6.1 rom making the machine unresponsive this takes the biscuit, i thought my old n95 was bugridden when i first got it ;-(
There's a thread over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393062 that tells of a similar tale, it might be worth a read.
Some of the issues are with the ROM and poor touch sensitivity making the unit appear to slow down.
If you have nothing to lose, overwrite your ROM's with the ones in my signature, they're on the forum and I know they're quick, and I'm on Orange, so its a good benchmark.
If you are still experiencing similar problems, then I would suggest you update the phone with the original stuff and tell Orange Care that they have a duff handset and you want it replacing.
i will give it a try, thanks ;-)

Which ROM could someone please advise?

Hi
Could someone please recommend a ROM for my orange uk kaiser? I'm currently running 1.2 sleuth but has become unstable of late, probably my fault, i know
As i understand it i need a ROM which doesn't affect the radio which is why I chose sleuth originally.
Thanks in advance.
Can't you just chose any ROM of your liking and then flash back to whatever Radio ROM you want to use? As long as the desired Radio is compatible with the chosen ROM of course...

It is in your best interest to decide which ROM you and only you like the best.
As of late, most of the chefs here are attaching radios to their ROM but please do make sure if you change radios they are compatible.
Lately, the most popular are:
Death V2
Leo's
Duttys.
Hope that helps and flash away!
thanks for the info, i have 1.27.14.32 radio but none of the ROMS seem to include this or state their compatability.
heh someone still using wm6.0
upgrade to 6.1 is recommended..
Ones i find useful are Dutty's Hyprid 2 from apr29
His latest is still a test and i had a bit of problems with it
For something fast i would recommend S4V.19701.01 Full
It's super-fast and i might switch back to it when i have time to flash again and when i can be bothered reinstalling everything hehe,
I am using Dutty's April 29 ROM with cube. Have also flashed the 1.65.20.29 radio and have absolutely no problems so far.
Highly recommended... Stable and fast.
I flashed 2 or 3 other ROMs after this but always reverted back within 24 hours.
Sorry for the duplicate post...
hey ive used them all pretty much! Enjoyed Dutty's for a while. But the sheer speed of every aspect of Death V2 has made me stick with that.. Props to the chef!
I like Dutty's April 29 ROM
I like Dutty's April 29 ROM. I am using MioMap and Skype and both works with that rom. Its also very fast I am a business user and check email from exchange and other stuff and this ROM has performed exceptionally well. I upgraded from a 4 month old ROM so I was very surprised.
Give that a try its seems stable to me and has a lot of the bugs fixed. Don't go for the Dutty's test rom I flashed it and went to Dutty's April 29 ROM almost immediately.
I had issues with keyboard, the performance was slow and Miomap and SKype didn't work.
Just my 2 cents.
i recommend dutty's 16 april.
The fastes i ever used. But the 29 april is almost the same.
16 April has quicker acces to menu while 29 April quicker acces has to windows map.
Death V2
Can someone point me to the thread for this ROM please?
Cheers

Generally spoon feeding is shunned upon, but i'll chip in. For the past several months I've been using Q-Mobile. Never had a lag problem, never had a freezing problem, never had instability problems, never had ANY problems. Its fast, stable, and stable...and did i mentioned stable? I've flashed almost every rom that exists and this has been the most bug-free, lag-free, problem-free, rom I have ever put my hands on. I always go back to it because it runs so smooth.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

DUTTYS
I use duttys hybrid v2. Its the fastest rom i flashed by far go try if you like
DCS 1.7 Ultimate Video
One worth trying and compatile with older radios. Stable, snappy and was one of my favorites. Would flash back to it but have Dutty's WM6.1 5.2.19209 running pretty well and haven't mastered UC yet (I think Sashimi might get push me over the edge)

easily hands down, leos diamond v3 rom. Fastest rom in kaiser history!
Win 6.1 HTC update is a complete disaster!!!
OK. I downloaded and flushed today this new Win 6.1 HTC update:
RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40. 02_1.65.16.25
(I had previously an original HTC ROM)
But, unfortunately, it seams to be a complete disaster. Many programs are simply not working. iGO, for example, even doesn't start. The local language support doesn't work. The phone becomes slower then before, with an original HTC ROM.
After a couple of hours of fighting, I was forced to do something that I was afraid doing since I've bought this phone – flash a non standard XDA ROM.
After Hard-SPL, the first ROM that I tried was a Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700. And it worked OK, but just to try something else for comparison, I than flashed a L26 Kaiser Diamond Version 3 !!! (Core 19588)
And immidiatly got almost the same problems like with the new Win 6.1 HTC update ROM.
It seams to be that a L26 Kaiser Diamond Version 3 and new Win 6.1 HTC update ROM used the same ROM core. Please correct me if I am wrong.
So, after that I am back with the Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2, but I've just flushed the same radio version like one that I had with the HTC update: ver. 1.65.16.25
Now, everything works just perfect.

In terms of normal usage... not really, but I must admit I have been using my Tilt more for messing around with than actually being productive since I got it
When testing a new ROM I always do alot of mode switch tests as I like to have a quick swap.
However, for purposes of this test, I didn't switch mode at all.

alright, cool thanks.
Earlier this evening I had to reset my phone. It sat in stand by for at least 45 min and i was playing with it, using touchflo, tapping, etc. All was normal.
However, after flipping out the keyboard I noticed that it briefly started to have its freezing moments when flipping back to portrait. So perhaps this could be looked into a little.

Well not to get too off topic from the SPL issue, I will say that I have found portrait/landscape mode swapping to be very inconsistent on all ROMS. On the fastest ROMs I have tried the screen rotates in about 1 second (1 mississippi count). On the worst ROMs it is about a 3 mississippi count. However, the fast ROMs will sometimes perform at more of a 1.5-2.0 second interval and the slower ROMs will sometimes perform closer to the 1.5 marks. I don't think this has to do with what i have running etc as I will usually do these test just after a soft reset (giving the phone about 60-120 seconds to finish starting up first). But I'll leave it at that...back to the topic at hand....

These are the results of Jocky's 1.1...they are equivalent to HardSPL:
Jockey SPL (SPL-1.1.JockyW)
1588
1588
1558
1588
Average:1580
As far as the other ones you attached... HardSPL is I believe the normal OliPro one which I already tested. JumpSPL is a "soft" SPL and can't actually be flashed permanently. Correct me if I'm wrong.
As you are I am very sceptical as to how the SPL could have any affect on the OS. However I did read one interesting post in the other thread.
The poster brought up the fact that the SPL loads the OS. If the SPL improperly starts that load out before the .dlls take over it could have an effect on the OS.
So far that is the most logical reason I have heard thus far. I would love to see olipro jocky or one of the other heavy hitters weigh in on the issue.
Till then I think Ill stick with HardSPL.
I'm not a fancy-schmancy tester-roony (what? ), but I can state with certainty that my Tilt, which is currently running L26's Diamond v4 ROM, has seen major improvements since flashing to the new HTC 3.28 SPL.
With the L26 v4 ROM in particular, I was experiencing screen lag several times per minute. With the new SPL, it has not happened once!
I am almost positive that a benchmark is not going to show touch screen lag. Also, the improvement does not seam to be quantifiable, but noticeable none the less.
Fact of the matter is bengalih has been the only one I have seen to try to quantify and qualify the effects (if any) of the newer 6.1 based roms and various SPL's. I applaud his efforts, and further investigation is warranted IMHO.
Frankly, posting one-off reports of success or failure using one SPL or other using one ROM or other pale in comparison to a well documented method and means, which bengalih has at least attempted. Too often this forum relies on "Ok this is what works for me" posts, rather than sytematic efforts to determine what will work for most under such and such conditions. The results should be quantifiable and replicable. Bengalih has attempted that, suggested a process, and is asking for replication or refinement of the procedure. That is what this thread is for IMHO.
You may not like the message, but dont kill the messenger.
Back to the topic!
I dont post much but on this issue I am totally convinced that the SPL is causing issues. I started having the freezing with the official att rom 1.62 after I had been using other cooked roms and hardSPL. Just yesterday I switched back to the SPL that came with att 1.62 and I havent had a freeze at all. I am dying to hear from Pof, Jockey, Oli anyone of those that know how the SPL really works and perhaps a new version of HardSPL. So let me reiterate, no placebo here, problem solved by reverting to original spl. However I dont like being stuck with official roms.

I agree with most of your post.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE OFFICIAL ROMS TO USE OFFICIAL SPL!!!
1. HARD SPL
2. Flash L26 V4 (Cause it is the best out there)
3. Official SPL
If you want to try another ROM (but you wont, till L26 V5) simply flash HARD SPL, repeat.

The original poster tested not only two, but as many as five SPL's if I recall correctly. At-large testing is good, however your personal assessment will be drowned in another flood of "me too" and "me-not" posts. Which IMHO is counterproductive. Stick to the procedure, test, and post. Suggest changes to the procedure, test, then post. Otherwise you are just noise.

Procedure:
Device=Tilt
Use original rom.....no freezing
HardSPL OliPof
Flash Rom I tried aprox. 10 of the most popular. Then perform common tasks on each. ..... freezing occurs, non responsive screen and keys random times.
Didnt matter if it was a 6.0 rom or 6.1 rom. Freezing occured on both but the freezes were more frequent on 6.1 roms.
Flashed updated ATT SPL and then flashed official ATT 1.62 and havent experienced a freeze in 24 hours. Note this rom did have the freezing when HardSPL was used.

Received New Kaiser - but no sound - RESOLVED!

I thought I would drop in and say Hello.
I have been around these forums for over a year, just sitting in background looking around. Anyway I just got a new Kaiser (P4550) from MobileCityOnline, just arrived today - I am waiting to see what the deal is with AT&T for the HTC Touch Pro or HD. My previous phone is the Cingular 8525 - loved it!
When I started up my Kaiser I noticed that there was no sound. I search around the forum and did not see any real solution. I checked the ROM and it was flashed with:
ROM version: 3.02.405.0 WWE
ROM date: 12/20/07
Radio version: 1.27.06.02
I thought that was weird a WM6.1 OS but with a WM6.0 radio. So I downloaded the HTC ROM 3.02.405.0 WWE from the Wiki page and reflashed the phone. That seem to resolve my "no sound" issue.
So now I am ready to start exploring the possible ROM that are out there.
i just falshed to a 6.1 and i get no sound too.
Its really good that you've resolved your problem.
But I must say that.
If you would learn to search and read, then you would find that this problem has been covered for million bazillion times here and its well known.

new to fuze, have rom questions...

i just started browsing this site a few days and am very impressed with the whole community..
anyway, i just swapped out my samsung epix for an htc fuze and love the phone so far. I've already succesfully removed the at&t tab, fixed the small mms issue, and changed the default device.home.
thats apperently the the tip of the iceberg as far as customizing this phone goes. I am now interested in a different rom. I've noticed a lot of good things about the energyrom 2.0/3.0 and am very interested but also hesitant to flash my phone since i only just got it and dont want to void any warranties.
my quesions;
1. whats the latest energyrom 2.0 build? (maybe give me a dl link)
2. does the rom come with a bunch of apps im not gonna use?
3. Do i need to flash the radio before/after the rom or at all?
4. and which radio is best?
tia, im looking forward to learning more as this phone will do until i get the touch pro 2 or whatever comes next.
edit: i do realize there is a wiki and have been studying it, i've also seen the rom flashing for noobs section and have a rough idea that hardspl is a failsafe should anything go wrong
I'm just going to say that you need to find the answers to your own questions.
Start here.

my quesions;
1. whats the latest energyrom 2.0 build? (maybe give me a dl link)
2. does the rom come with a bunch of apps im not gonna use?
3. Do i need to flash the radio before/after the rom or at all?
4. and which radio is best?
tia, im looking forward to learning more as this phone will do until i get the touch pro 2 or whatever comes next.
edit: i do realize there is a wiki and have been studying it, i've also seen the rom flashing for noobs section and have a rough idea that hardspl is a failsafe should anything go wrong

im still iffy on going to a 6.5 rom cause i guess its still a beta version on winmo (i think) so i was more thinkin on 6.1, i dont need newest just something different from stock but stable as well.
i was lookin at this list (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_Cooked_WM6.1_ROMs) and noticed energyrom 2.0 build 41609 was the newest but the thread link doesnt work.
i clicked the energyrom 1.0 build 32609 thread link and it brought me to a thread for energyrom 1.0 build 41609.....is that the same as energyrom 2.0 build 41609?
i also looked around and noticed the radio is untouched with just a rom flash so ill leave that alone for now. thank you for showing me how to use google anyway.
I am using 6.5 EnergyROM. It's very stable. Try it. The radio in my signature really works well in Northern California.

aight, i think i will. thanks again for the info.
i flashed the rom to the energy 6.5 rom and am pretty amazed at people are willing to do for free. now ive only messed with it for about an hour but am loving it.
the only thing im worried about is how high the memory usage will go and how the battery life is affected..
