hello,
I currently have 2 cellphone: Iphone (old one) with Edge dataplan from att.
and HTC Polaris.
I was using HTC Polaris with the SIM from Iphone and e/thing was working just fine untill today, when I was unable to use the Internet connection. My skype still connects but my emails and internet explorer and msn don't connect to the network.
Also, earlier I was able to connect to 3G with HTC.
So, I wanted to know what is going on? Is it because that my HTC is trying to connect to 3G network and thats why my access is blocked or is there anyways to fix it?
Thanks.
No.
I had a motorola RAZR (not even edge!, its just regular gprs) with at&t, got the unlimited media net data for 15$ a month, popped the sim out, put it in a polaris and now i get unlimited 3G for 15$ a month.
It's gotta be something with your connection settings and / or your radio rom possibly? Run the connection setup again and try that.
Everything works for me too on ATT, and I'm on some other data plan not the PDA Data plan. The one thing that doesn't work for me is MMS. I think it might have something to do with Proxy settings, although not sure. It's kinda annoying actually.
MMS works for me, but it's hella expensive.
I have a text plan that includes 200 text messages and pay per use MMS.
It's like 75 cents per MMS i believe.
i have unlimited everything. unlimited data, text, mms. the thing is i can't even receive mms, let alone send.
do you have any proxy settings? my settings show now proxy. with a proxy i can only update weather but i can't do anything else. with no proxy i can actually use opera and other wireless data functions.
i wonder if this has something to do with the fact that i did have an iphone data plan before switching to another one. (no i don't have an iphone, long story though) maybe in att system they still think i have an iphone (since the iphone doesn't send or receive mms and might not use the proxy)?
Are you guys w/o MMS configured properly?

Yeah I have all those settings. I am not however using any proxy settings, don't know if that matters. I get a series of errors when I try to upload or download an MMS. When it uploads it gets to 99% then it doesn't send it. when can't remember what happens it tries to receive, something about forbidden. I've seen several people complain about it on the forum but none of those fixes work.
MMS used to work at some point, so I don't know what happened. It might have something to do when my account was on an iPhone data plan for a few hours. Maybe that messes with the proxy settings / MMS settings for that account??
Ive been stuck trying to figure out how i can send MMS messages without using a Data Plan. I want to be able to STOP all connections to the data plan, minus using it for MMS. Basically what im saying is that i just want to send and recieve MMS messages since i have an unlimited SMS/MMS plan.
Can somebody help me out, i'd really appreciate it.
cAll customer service tell them you want no data-
have them block it. Problem solved.
MMS does not require you to use a data connection. Freekquency is right if you want to doublecheck and protect yourself from extra charges....
What I did on a Samsung Epix for this to work is go to connections in settings and set the first one for internet to "My Work Network." Since the MMS program has a manual setting on which data connection to use, I left that on the internet connection. When I get an MMS it will work fine but when a program tries to access data it will fail. A little caution though is that if the phone is either sending or receiving an MMS the other programs can use the connection until the MMS is done.
Search the forums for Modaco no data and toggle off the data.
It seems like if i use NoData then it stops the usage of MMS. I dont want to STOP my data connection, i just want to use it for MMS only, not online.
Hey,
I do not have a data plan with my carrier because virtually everywhere I go has WiFi, so I leach off of this. Because of this, I disabled the data connection so I don't wind up with any accidental charges. But, this leaves me unable to send or receive SMS messages. Has anyone found a good solution for this? Thanks!
If you cant send SMS thats not a data issue. If you mean MMS then:
Here (T-Mob UK) i have 2 connections, my internet connection & my MMS connection. If i receive a media message, the phone connects to the latter - free - and downloads the message.
If i send a mms, it connects again (still free for the data) and sends it. I get billed per mms sent, regardless of the ammount of data.
The internet connection isnt used for messages at all, but for everything else (and is billed per kb)
I'm talking about MMS, I mixed it up in the paragraph. I have to connections with AT&T: Media Net and ISP GRPS. So will just disabling the ISP GRPS connection allow me to send MMS without accidently connecting with Opera a day later on accident?
With AT&T, Data and Messaging are separate features. As long as you have a Messaging or Messaging Unlimited plan, you can send and receive text and MMS messages.
Yes I realize that, but my issue is accidental data usage after the message is sent. I have unlimited MMS and SMS but I dropped the data because most places I go has wi fi. The issue is that I might send a message and an hour later it downloads my email from the data connection either when there is wi fi or not.
I do the same thing with my Fuze, I also have AT&T and use NoData. I just tried to send a MMS and it wont even connect to send it. I even uninstalled NoData and it wouldnt connect. I have done a little looking aroud and with AT&T any smartphone you use has to have a data plan to send MMS, it is true that it doesnt need it but AT&T wont let you connect to media net with out it.

This is correct. As far as I am aware there is no work around for it either. I used email for the longest time instead, but finally decided it was time to get a data plan. Its actually pretty nice.
I think this is very wrong of AT&T to do, I pay for unlimited text and MMS and I cant even use it. I have no need for the data plan, at home I have Wifi I also have it at work and my half hour drive I dont need to be connected to the internet. The only company I know that will let you do something like this is T-Mobile, I did it with them when I had my blackberry.
Yeah it is a little unfair, although really the end user is at fault too for disabling the data feature to avoid accidental charges.
Side note- I thought that with Blackberrys you had to have the BB Data service as it is something RIM mandates or because its a licensing/contractual thing between them and the carrier.

You only need the service books for your carrier for mms to work on the Blackberry, t-mobile will give these out AT&T wont. For the Blackberry the work around is to put in a sim card that has a active BB data plan, it then downloads the service books and when you put your sim back in it will still connect with out charging you for it.
Can anyone tell me the settings to Connect to "Media Net" on AT&T? It would be really appreciated

have you tried at&t's support pages?
Hello.
I know similar threads can be found on related subjects, but I've easily gone over 25 threads and have made 0 progress.
I recently flashed {ROM} Ninja-07061 on my Inspire 4G and I'm absolutely in love with it. So far, it's my favorite ROM and I really want to keep using it.
The problem lies in the fact that I can't send or receive any MMS messages without first connecting to the mobile network, something I haven't had to do in all the non-cyanogen mods I've tried.
I've tried changing APN settings, using different messaging apps and pretty much all I know I can do without risking any damage to my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is anything I should post that could aid in solving the problem, please tell me, I am very very new to this entire android thing and I'm trying to learn as much as possible, but there are things that I still have no clue about.
Thanks in advance.
Possible Solution
I've had a similar problem with earlier versions of the ROM. I don't send enough MMS messages to know if this works, but at one point I had added an MMS-only APN. Something like what is mentioned in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983
Let me know if it works.
Thanks... unfortunately it didn't work :/
I've tried many different APN options and I still get the same results. MMS I received are stuck at "downloading" and ones I send are stuck at "sending".
The issue is with the way cm based Roms change the apn when disabling data. They disable the apn completely. While other stock based rom's don't disable the mms part of it. MMS use a little but of data and that's why you see the data arrows work when you send an MMS .
Okay, let me see if I understand.
CM based roms don't let me download or send MMS because they don't automatically connect to the mobile network to do it?
I noticed that I can send and receive while on the mobile network but not while disconnected (or while I'm connected to wifi).
Originally this worried me since I have a free MMS plan, which I believe should work separately from the mobile data connection, but I don't really know how it works (because I'm a total noob >.<).
I've read a little and it seems that MMS will be free, but they still require me to be connected to the mobile network. From what I can discern, this means that most stock roms (sense based) force a connection whilst sending or receiving an MMS and CM roms don't?
If that's so, is there a way to get the messaging app to force the connection, or will I have to connect to the mobile network every time I want to send/receive an MMS? I try not to have the connections enabled due to battery life and the fact that my data plan is capped.
Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to get used to the entire android scene :/

You got it. The only way I was able to do it is to activate data (which I normally keep off due to wifi everywhere and being on a prepaid plan) when I send an MMS. There are apps that control what can connect to data. I think apndroid is one of them.
The reason sense works is that it has its own built in MMS settings seperate from the apn settings.
Okay, guess I'll have to try some stuff out, at least I can rest easy knowing what's up now.
Thanks a billion.
No problem.
