SMS Alert - Touch Cruise General

Okay, only had the phone a couple of days but I've spent all afternoon trying to work out how to turn on an alert for incoming SMS without having to listen to an annoying beep everytime I send an SMS.
I'd prefer to keep a customised ringtone yet the various sound profiles accessed from the Today screen dont let me select my own ringtones.
I assume I'm overlooking the obvious but I can't find how to do it.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks?

Key Pad Lock
I've set the phone so I have to enter a password everytime it goes into 'sleep' mode but cant now find how to knock this off when I'm in the house - can anyone help?
Thanks
Alan

I'm afraid it's one of those, either have it on or off. After playing a little longer, you'll notice other things as well, eg. sms/missed call notifications are not repeated amongst other things.
The good news is that there are plenty of 3rd party apps that offer better or extensive use of your Polaris like profiles. A couple that spring to mind are PhoneAlarm and spb phone suite. I think PhoneAlarm might offer what you need like 'launching a program depending on location' and such. Both are shareware though.
Try first googling xda-developers to see what others are saying. Maybe I missed a little app that does exactly what you want.
Enjoy your new toy!

Reminder not stoppable

Hello @ all,
I have often problems with reminders, too, as posted by others before. When phone is resetted, the reminders drive me to hell. I tried check notification, but I am not able to get this again workin normal...
Check notification seems not to work properly, or probably I am doing something wrong... When I hit in the options delete duplicate reminders, nothing happens. When I then hit "clear", all my reminders are deleted...
But now, I have another issue: Reminders are not stoppable because there does not appear the info where i can dismiss it...
It's very poor for MS, that this problem exists since OS 2003 and seems to be still in WM6...
Hope that someon has some hitns for me...
the best solution is memmaid (www.dinarsoft.com), but it's not free
Hi zoki!
Thanks for your answer. That too is new to me... I'll give it a try, there's a 15 das limited trial available...

I'll second Memmaid. This tool is great for cleaning stuff up (bad notifications, bad links, etc).
I installed it and had a look on it...
In the notification queue I see hundreds of reminders. Its OK, I am using my calendar very intensive...
So, I searched for duplicated items (is that really the problem for my issue?!). Found two, deleted them, restarted my nice phone, and again: my phone reminds me for i dont know, 5 to 10 notifications at one time. sounds nice, when two rings are ringing at one time but it nerves...
what can I do to solve my probelm with this tool?!
so, I have many items there:
calendar.exe
clock.exe (more than three!). I think that there's the problem?! I would say only three should be there...?!
for following items i have no clue what they are,...
tmail.exe
calupd.exe
sqmevent.exe
enrollnot.exe
\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0x0
clocknot.exe
repllog.exe
calnot.exe
Reminders problem
OK, I don't use reminders, but try this: Turn off notifications before resetting your device. I don't remember if there is a setting in the calendar program for this, as I use pocket informant, but probably there is. Then, after resetting, turn them back on. This might at least stop it reminding you about past events. If this doesn't work, you can try turning them off in the "Sounds and Notifications" program in the Settings folder. Then turn them back on after resetting.
Good luck,
I don't think this will solve dbsoundz's problems. I had the same thing yesterday morning, my alarm woke me up on the normal programmed time, but there's no button to dismiss it. Even switching of the alarm doesn't work, it keeps up going. Only by hard-reset I was able to solve this.
Thanks for discussion...
what have I done: I deleted all the items with "clock.exe". After that, my phone was not again ringing wild on phone startup . So far so good.
But:
the problem with the missing notification of reminders still exists
hm... it still rings once on startup. but the ringtone is another then edited in the sound settings under "reminders"... but thank god, no ringing orchestra any more... and still w/o "dismiss"-notification
It sounds to me like a time zone problem! Try going to a different time zone let it chnage and then wait a couple of secs and chnage back!
Hi funman,
thanks for your reply.
I tried your suggestion. but it didn't help. Same problems as before. I was also sceptical about that, because I don't think that there's the problem. As described, the phone makes still a ring orchestra at start up and the reminders are totally different from settings in the sounds/notification settings... very strange. And there's still no notification baloon where I could "dismiss" it...

change email/notification profile by time

Hi people.
I've spend a couple days searching and trawling around google and various fora (including these ones) but can't seem to find exactly what I want... which is:
I want to be able to disable email, SMS and MMS notifications at night when I'm trying to sleep. However I still want to be able to hear the alarm I've set to wake me up in the morning...
I realise I could do this manually through the "sounds and Notifications" menu in WM6 "settings", but its a right pain in the arse.
I've tried the PhoneAlarm free trial, but it doesn't let you switch off specific notification types like e.g. just email and SMS, but not general alarms.
Anyone got any ideas or can suggest a program. I don't need lots of bells and whistles and other unnecessary control features - just a quick way to set the profile to a setting that turns off email and SMS notifications, but keeps on alarms - I'm even happy to press a button for this each night and don't mind if it doesn't automatically switch at my preferred time.
thanks in advance for any help guys.
ps. I'm running stock O2 WM6.0 UK ROM - I've never changed it... so please, please, please don't tell me I need to upgrade the ROM to 6.1 I'm way too busy and need my phone and pda working at all times to be dealing with flashing a new ROM and re-installing all my progs and entering email settings etc...
PhoneWeaver
I use a timed silent profile that switches back to normal before the first alarm of the day
hi
use spb phone suite for this, it allows you to switch. There are other programs that do this that may be free but i cannot for the life of me rememeber they were i somewhere on here i think... someone started a thread on it
and for alarm use g-alarm as its by far the best out there, if your not already using it that is

Locale or Tasker

I just want to know which you prefereren and Why you go for such a complex apps ?
I went for locale and some plugins but lot of plugins where crap .
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
locale is extremely easy to use and setup and it never failed me. i never had to worry if locale did not execute what i had programmed it to do. i only used it to have night, school, busy, and driving profiles. within the profiles i had some auto sms, volume controls, and a couple other things like in the driving profile launch the driving app.
after years of using it, i on and off tried to setup profiles in tasker but i hated it. eventually on the 3-4th time installing it, i found some already made profiles online. that changed my preference. takser has soo many things it can do but extremely difficult (atleast for me) built in to the app without needing plugins. tasker allowed me to uninstall audio manager, reminders, alarms, shortcut plugins, call plugins, and auto sms.
the reason i MUST have these type of apps is because it can automatically do things so i dont need to manually do it. when im in class it can reject calls, send sms saying im in class, automatically change my ringer volume so i dont ever worry about having my phone ring in class, launch my fav driving app, let people know im driving and cant talk, set reminders incase i forget, the list goes on and on. it is like having a REAL smartphone because it knows what to do and when to do it on its own!

tasker app

Just thought i'd share this with the community. You can do LOTS of really cool stuff with this app. If you get if from the website rather the market you get a 7 day trial. Look in the wiki for examples and tutorials of what you can do with it.
I'm face down in this app all day, almost every day.
I've gotten it to do some nice things, such as get the area code of the current caller and display it in the notification area or as a toast notification (the grey popup box, like when you get superuser notifications). I'm currently devising a way for it to do this for country codes, but some of these country codes have some oddly specific rules, and I'd rather it not have 290 profiles for 1 function
It replaces my alarm clock in the morning, and it turns the alarm off if I unlock widgetlocker.
When I flip my phone face down, it goes to vibrate mode.
I found a blog/forum post where someone had made a popup list of launcher icons when you plug in headphones, and I like that.
I use it to pin lock apps, but that's far from perfect. It did replace an app I had for that purpose.
I have it send WOL packets to my computers at work; depending on the time of day and the day of the week, it chooses specific computers.
When I'm at my home screen, I shake the phone up/down and it goes through my menus and applies the rendering effects found in CM7, kind of like the Chainfire shortcut.
If I get a missed call, meaning I didn't answer it or hang it up, it responds to the missed call with a text message. Too bad there's not a way for me to find out if that number is cellular or not, and I can get a phonecall from anywhere in the US throughout the day because of work
I had, for a little while, been trying to replicate JuiceDefender's methods by using a series of variables and controls, with profiles to enable and disable almost all interfaces for comms on the phone. The way tasker works when the screen is off, however, caused issues so I went back to reinstalling Juicedefender. I really only wanted to have a cleaner notification bar
I also got some profiles to make it work like the Screebl app, but it has since quit working with the newest tasker updates.
Very well worth the money however. I'd have easily paid 15 dollars for this application

Random Notification Sounds?

Maybe someone else can help me with this.
Every so often during the day I keep getting a random notification sound with no visual as to what it is. The sound is 5 tones going in a descending pattern and sounds metallic. I do not have NFC turned on nor the facebook app. I checked all my apps and sounds. I even read a lot of threads else where and tried everyone's suggestion. Still does it. I searched my phone for *.ogg and *.wav files. Nothing.
I do have a wallet case but since NFC is off its not that. I've never heard this sound before. It only started a few days ago and I've have this phone for over a month. FYI I'm running the Hola launcher and omni swipe if that helps. Any suggestions?
I am thinking to uninstall ALL my apps and see if it still does it, but I really dont want to have to do that if I can avoid it.:silly:

It's not the launcher. It doesn't matter.
This is why I hardly ask anything here. No one cares.
If your not a popular member you never get a reply.
I'll just ask my questions elsewhere where people actually care about you.
Are you using googles smartlock feature? When I first started using it I was receiving this weird notification which sounds like what you're talking about. It don't do it no more for some reason but man was it so annoying not knowing what the heck your phone is trying to tell you.

Hey there.
I have been checking back on this topic for a while because my wife's Note Edge is having the same exact problem. I even reached out to Samsung Mobile Support and they can't even figure out what it is. All they did was tinker with the sound settings and asked me if it was fixed. I have tried disabling all possible notifications from all possible apps. The only thing left is to do a factory reset it seems. Any luck on your end?

Well that's not a pessimistic attitude or anything whatsoever! lol. Here's the thing... It might help to try and remember that nobody is on here getting paid to spend their time answering your questions all day long, so unfortunately it's inevitable that there will be times when people might just have to figure their problems out on their own or just be forced to wait until someone responds.. no matter how "popular" they might be.
This entire community wouldn't exist if weren't for all of the people on here who have been and are willing to spend their own free time sharing their knowledge with and helping others, so it's pretty ridiculous to sit there and act like it's a personal assault whenever nobody answers your question right away! From my experience on here people (including myself) are always more than willing to help out whenever they can (as long as the people are willing to help themselves too), but since nobody is getting paid people need to realize that it's more of a "self help" type of community than anything.
There are literally mountains of freely available information for people to search through to try to find their answers with, and with enough determination and persistence 99% of the time people could answer their own questions without ever even having to ask. So I'm definitely not trying to be rude or anything but it's just all in how you look at it.. because when people come here expecting to be handed all of the answers then they're most likely going to be disappointed and upset, but when you come here looking to help yourself instead you'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes and how rarely you'll have to ask any questions.
Anyway I'll try helping with some suggestions below since they're having the same problem too..

Ok I've actually had a similar problem in the past and I can't guarantee anything but hopefully this might help..
In my situation it turned out being "profiles" that I didn't realize were turned on, and they were causing rogue and unknown sounds to happen because they were overriding my ringer and media volume settings based on the time of day it was. So all I had to do was turn off the profiles and it solved the problem, but it depends on the rom that you're on as to whether or not profiles like that are even an option.
If not another thing I'd recommend doing (and I'm obviously not sure what all you've tried so I'm just trying to cover the bases just in case) is to get a root explorer (as long as you're rooted.. if not I'm honestly not sure what to tell ya) and navigate to the root folder .. then go to "system/media", and inside there should be a folders called ui, notification, and ringtones.. and this where all of the default notification sounds are located. I would go through and listen to each one of them (they should be .ogg files) and see if you can find a match to the one you're hearing, and if you do then you can just rename that file .bak instead of .ogg and that should stop it from playing randomly (basically a bandaid type fix).
If it's not any of the system sounds then you've basically narrowed it down to where it's most likely an app that's making the sound. If that's the case then what I'd do is go into Titanium Backup and filter it to only show "user apps" and then have it sort them by the date which they were installed, and then I'd just start going down the list looking for apps I've installed that could possibly be making the sound.. that way even if you have a general idea around when the problem started happening you can match that time frame up with apps that were installed around that time to narrow down your search (if that makes sense anyway).
Anyway that's what I would do to start at least and hopefully it helps!

heh. I have an idea. You know those crappy applications on the edge? Some of them are games. I remember i used to have this issue with the memory one. Remove them from the edge. No root required. Just remove the panels from the panel configurator.

Not sure if this is gonna help you or not. But yesterday I started to getbthe same metallic noises, I only recall 1 change to my settings and that was installing the live wallpaper on the lock screen to show me pictures based in weather and such. And since then every hour or so it makes the sound. Try to find out if you did the same thing.
Random notification sound
I am having a similar problem which has been widely reported but none of the suggested fixes are working for me. The notification tone keeps sounding in a seemingly random way. There is no notification to match the tone. This is not just a beep or random noise. It is the default notification tone. (Skyline for completeness). This happens maybe 5 or 6 times in 24 hours. It has been happening for about 10 days.
I am running Android 8.0.0 (Samsung Experience version 9) on a Galaxy S8. The phone is not rooted.
I have turned off all notifications individually.
I have turned off notifications for the phone.
I have turned off notification reminders (it was never on).
I have turned off NFC and bluetooth.
I have checked under Accessibility settings.
I have uninstalled every app installed in the last 3 weeks.
I can reproduce the NFC and credit card issue but that is a single beep and not what I am talking about.
I have installed 3 different notification log readers (NS Notification, Notif log notification history and Notification Log). None of them show any activity at the times when I am getting the spurious tone.
When I re-enable notifications for Texts, Messenger and WhatsApp, I still receive these as normal.
I recently got a new dual band router and thought maybe the tone was the phone jumping from 2.4 to the 5 Ghz band or vice-versa. It wasn't. I thought it might be the phone jumping from telecoms provider to WiFi. Tested that too and that's not it.
Next step is a factory reset which I am trying to avoid.
I know this is bringing problems to the table, not solutions but this is really bugging me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
