is there a .QCN file writer or editor? - General Questions and Answers

I have the QPST QCNviewer, which allows me to save qcn files to txt, where i can edit the data, but am unable to write to qcn, or simply edit it within a program. A BRT editor may be of similar use.
Thanks in advance.

change the extension back to dat
Is this answe ur question?
Thanks for quick response. I appreciate it.
Are you sure i do not have to convert from unicode to text and then edit and then back to unicode??
Is it normal text file ... it does not look to me that way!
Did you check the attached file?
I did this several times
Attached your file in .txt after rename it and it will tel u that the file may be damaged, do not care
You must rename the file again to be .dat after making ur changes
But be curfull any mistake in this file will create a big problem do it but be curful

You can right click on the file - open with - and it should open with notepad. Yes you need to save it as unicode but even then you will find it will not work. You need to use a hexeditor and delete the first ff and fe as these are added when saving with notepad.
Would u please explain more, how to find this FF & FE?
I know how to nba files only
Thanks

I tried it without removing those 2 values and it always hangs the device. If in doubt check the file (before and after editing with notepad) with a hex editor and you will see ff and fe are added.

I'm sure I did change the file without doing the removing of FF & FE and it works normaly
But no prob., next time I will try meschle advise
I discovered that the best way to edit any unicode file is by using an old program called editpad (free version copy attached here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1130485#post1130485 ) that allows to do, among many other things, to convert unicode to ansi and back to unicode without destroying the file structure. I feel sure many will find this very useful. Also it can be used as direct replacement for notepad by just rename it notepad.exe and over write your window one (or rename it before copying).

how to edit a android xml file

yea so I'm wondering how do you edit a android xml file exactly ?
An xml file is just text and some formatting. You can edit xml files with any text editor, even notepad.
For this kind of thing, I recommend PsPad...it's free and is able to handle the formatting/tabbing of all sorts of files.
now i'm getting there lol but when i open it up its all hex
i would like to learn this as well..thanks

it's nothing fantastic...... or is it....... it's got info about your phone and how the cust partition will be utilized. on mine it says vha/au
on others i'm not too sure.... maybe we can get people to post here and make a quick database of the custom.bin files...

Of course, here is a copy of mine. open it with a TXT editor or HEX editor and you'll see whats inside.
It's located in /DATA/
You'll need RootExplorer or something similar.
Just unzip it first.

Need a qcn file for MI 4 LTE-CU PLEASE

Hey guys,
Does anybody have a qcn back-up file for the MI 4 LTE-CU?
I need it very bad. I flashed wrong modem firmware and now my nvram (12, 13, 16th partition) is corrupted . I have no IMEI, baseband and cellular info.
Hope someone can help me.
Ruud
Try Qualcomm IMEI Writer or QPST tools.
I tried them both but I need a qcn file complete. I do not know how to write a complete qcn file myself.
If I can get a similar qcn file from the same device I can change the IMEI into my own using QPST and a heximal IMEI converter.

Is it the LTE FDD version of MI4? I tried to flash it using QPST but no success so far.
It can not reset NVram it says. Complaining about incompatible model number.
Thanks for your help! I going to examine the file later this week and then give it another try. Probably coming weekend.
Greetings
It works!! Finally I got it. I used XVI32 writer to change the IMEI in the above qcn file. With Qfil I was able to restore the adopted qcn file.
Many thanks for sharing, Yingice!!
Solved!
