A2DP Bluetooth patch from TYTN?? - Touch Cruise General

A2DP is pretty crap on this device drops out left right and centre... apparently there is a patch for the tytn for this issue, can it be ported by one of you techies????

yes, the polaris is quite bad with bluetooth, my TyTN is MUCH better! For instance, I have a Motorola S9, with the TyTN I can be in another room and still have perfect reception, but with my polaris I can't even hold the device in my hand without chop chop chop...
so if someone could port the fix that would be great, but I don't think that is the problem, I believe it is the radio that needs to be fixed. I mean, you can tweak the os and regsettings for longer distance, but then you loose the quality, and imho the only way to increase the signal strenght is to change it in the radio itself...
but hey, someone could try, or port the broadcom stack (which probably woudln't work because of the above statement)

The TC sucks whith Motorola BT headsets (doesn't matter which one... generaly), but works good whith others...
The TyTN has a different processor, different motherboard, on SW solutions, and of course a different Radio IC, so it won't be possible to install/adapt that device specific patch for our TCs...
Also there are several threads dealing whith BT, no need to start a new one...

The other threads are about people trashing there radio roms this is a different subject matter - so i'm quite happy the new thread was justified...
People who dash around telling people not to start new threads or search are truly the most annoying people on the planet - if you don't like the thread don't read it a.hole

There is a thread whith BT headsests and their problems already...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359515
The question could have been asked there, and google would still find it.

Holux GR 230 Bluetooth GPS on XDA2

I have just been following all the developments with the Bluetoth Stack Problems etc, after actually I had Ordered the Holux BT GPS Receiver.
I am still awaiting delivery, but after reading the last thread under GPS/Bluetooth got a bot dissappointed as a lot of people seem to have problems with the Reception.
I actually did some research before ordering and the reviews were promising. So in real life, what are the problems with the actual GPS itsself and how is the reception?
Even though I haven't tried Towas BT Fix, but I must congratulate as it seems very impressive the job he has done. I have downloaded all is required in terms of software fixes.
Please share your experiences with the Holux BT GPS and if anyone likes to do a preview perhaps?
I've already posted my comments in another thread but to summarise - it doesn't work ver well at all. I've used a Navman/iPaq combo - worked quite well, a Nokia LAM1/9210 - worked surprisingly well too, then a CF GPS in an Axim - worked extremely well, then this Holux device with an XDA II - the worst so far, by far. I'm assuming that the problem isn't with the XDA II as it uses a 400 mhz xScale 263 cpu which should be more than sufficient. I had read that these things would pick up a decent signal from within a rucksack or pocket, and indoors from a few feet from a window, but not in my case.
I can't wait to see what other peoples experiences are.
Ged.
How did you get the holux to work with xda2, I am having no luck with it.
I just installed towas patch, when I chose the holux it allowed me to assign a serial port "com4 chosen" this then appeared under gps in tomtom, works great and the headset works at same time, it did prevent me synching via bluetooth which was working fine before, but that is no hardship as I am unlikely to be synching by bluetooth while running tomtom.
P.s. I tried changing com ports for the gps but it didnt help so I removed my bluetooth desktop pc bluetooth profile, went to settings/bluetooth, told it to sync by bluetooth, it searched for and found my pc bluetooth dongle, when I click finish Towas patch pops up, I selected activesync and it now all works, the guys a genius with programming.
Got my Holux working too
Even though I was very nervous about the Holux, it has proved for me working very well, but it did take a bit to get things working.
At first, I removed all bluetooth devices, then installed Towas' Patch and then added the BT Devices (Holux + HBH-65). The HBH-65 worked well all the time, but once I loaded the Holux supplied software GPSviewer, it kept crashing and froze or it automatically kept rebooting. Tried all different ports but no success.
Finally, I had to Hard-Reset the XDA2 and then first install Towas's BT Patch before pairing any devices or installing any applications. Then I tried some third party software and finally Mapopolis and saw it working perfectly (COM 5, 9600). For some reason, GPSviewer is not compatible with either the XDA2 or Towas's Patch at any setting.
The Positioning is very good and usually have 8 sats locked out of 10 visible. I saw the device to be very accurate, perhaps to about 1-2 metres on Mapopolis. I even get around 3-4 Sats locked when I am indoors (thats either on the top floor or near a window. First time to fix is always around 30secs and hotstart seems immediate to me. The only matter which has got to me was that while driving, the positioning seemed to be lagging behind and Mapopolis came up with streets which just passed. I am also quite pissed off with the male voice of mapopolis as it sounds awful. I have now ordered TomTom V.2 and will keep u guys posted how that goes.
PS: The BT Handset works well at the same time as the GPS, but still missing the Handsfree BT Profile.
Anyone any update about O2 (UK) ROM Update?
I found no lag with Tomtom2, it was on the button and extremely accurate, does anybody know if the battery can be swapped out of this unit in the event of a failure once warrany is out?
I would think so. I took mine apart to see what was inside and it's very similar to one that you'd find in a cordless phone. Nothing special really and there are lots of companies out there that supply custom or specialist batteries.

i take it ur talking about the prolems "when you change the baud rate on the GR-230, it would lose communication via Bluetooth"?
if so the review on pocketgps.co.uk for the unit is quite good. its available @
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/holuxgr230.php
but it explains that its a firmware prob with units shipped B4 Dec 03, which can B fixed.
Hope this helps. ive just ordered 1 myself, £95 off ebay, will do nicely if it works, i shall let ya'll know.

Camera Help

I am after any help to get my prophets camera video recording (which stutters like crazy and misses most frames) working to an exceptable level.
The basic photo quality from the camera is ok however its just the video recording
For the record, I have tried and tested CoolCamera v1.15 (and previous incarnations/versions) but CoolCamera doesn't work well at all on my Prophet and even the photo side of the software gives a bad image result.
I am currently using a G4 Prophet, ASURG v3.3.13 ROM which is the best out of all of those that I have tried.
So, what I am after is any help / relevant advice or information on what to do to enhance the video capabilities.
I use a fast 4GB MMS card which is NOT the problem as far as I am aware as I have not only tried saving a video recording internally but have also tested various ultra cards from 64mb,250mb right up to a 1gb for saving onto and its just as bad.
I have tried many patches (cab update types from various operators etc)
I have not come across any registry tweaks so am interested to hear if anyone has any they know of.
I have a feeling it maybe something to do with a combination of the relatively low CPU speed of the Prophet and perhaps the seemingly low quality sensor and camera chip? Incidentally, I've also increased and decreased the core clock speed using omapclock software but that makes no difference either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I use the device for EVERYTHING. Its with me 24hours a day and is used primarily for taking spur of the moment photos for work.
PS: For the record I have also checked 'xda-Dev' and left a post for help to (I haven't found anything relevant to this problem anywhere to be honest which I find strange.)
Surely I am not alone with this problem.
Thanks in advance of any help
Nicholas
I have nothing to say, use these tips for a little improvements
1. Update to Rom 2.20 and over clock to 204 MHz.
2. Use more light in the office.
3. Try 50 Hz flicker adjustment
I'm using now N80 the colors are not as Jamin but much movement for video inside, get on for your office
Thanks anyway....
Thanks but have already tried 2.20 with no difference. I started off with 2.20. Variable flicker adjustments have never made a difference either and I get the same result inside or outside. colors are very vivid and acceptable too. Its just the video recording quality I am looking to fix / better.
Video jumps and stutters during recording (every few seconds) at present to the point that I have to discard every video made on the phone.
Thanks all the same for replying.
I have very good Camera outdoor, in the sunlight, maybe ur device has a problem
well, erm thanks for that.

A solution for you...
Hi m8,
What you need to do is this:-
1. Flash your phone back to a decent ROM such as the last QTek AKU 2.20 release. (All the other WM6, AKU3+ etc. etc. ROM's you might find are basically CRAP, although Jesterz AKU2.20 ROM is also a keeper in my opinion!!)
2. Then you need to overclock your phone to approx. 234MHz with the "Batterystatus" plugin (A very nice little app. that you should always have on your phone! - Search this Forum to find the app. d/l link!)
3. Unfortunatley, the AKU2.2 Camera Driver cannot handle the aforementioned overclock speed and gives you green pixels all over the screen, so you need to download and install the following older version of the Camera Driver, from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31808&d=1165275264
4. Soft reset your phone after installing the driver and BINGO, Camera now runs like a charm in both still and in video modes!
I hope this helps... let me know if you need clarification of anything or if for some reason this doesn't work for you!
Cheers, Moz.
Thanks friend.
Thats one of the roms i was using last month. Its stable and reliable but still had problems. As for over clocking I use OMAP overclocking app and add shortcut to startup. I was told not to over clock ever if I want a decent camera result but will try once more. I appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Worse thing happened yesterday...my Prophet speaker died. So I have been told to phone up to arrange a replacement on Wednesday. I didn't know that the Prophet was renowned for having a speaker problem every so often and that many other people had had to get replacements because of this.
Oh well. Will wait till new one arrives and see how good the video is on it.
Thanks again
Hi again,
Sounds like your Prophet experience has been pretty much a mirror image of mine... I think we will ALL get the speaker problem sooner or later... these particular handsets seem rather badly built to me! I simply replaced my failed speaker with one from an old SPV E100 I had lying around, and now the ringtones and sound playback from the unit is awesome - Can't beat the old phones for build qualitt!! (...and I got my Jamin from Ebay for 60 quid so it was easy to take a risk in pulling it apart!!)
As for the fix I described previously, the Omap overclock will work equally well (I just find the Batterystatus app. more flexible). The Jesterz ROM is defo one of the most stable out there and if you want to use your device as a proper business/workhorse mobile phone rather than just a gimicky toy like most of the kids on here, then it (or the proper Qtek AKU 2.20) are the *only* ROMs worth considering.
Your previous advice concerning not overclocking for the Camera is essentially correct, hence the need to downgrade the driver in order to attain the required performance!!
When you get your replacement unit from Orange, I would simply try the Overclock to 234MHz then install the Driver fix I posted on top of whatever standard ROM it comes with... I'm sure you will see the improvement in video you are seeking - it works for me anyway!
(Nice website you have there, by the way... had a quick nosey and just thought I'd say! )
Rgds, Moz.
Cheers Mozzerr
Sound Mozzerr.
Took ALL what you were saying. Am checking new replacement now. Came this morning. I love Orange. I was really peed off at first as insurance had been taken off a year ago without my asking. Could have been an oversight on my part am not quite sure, but it nearly cost me a replacement phone. Was getting VERY worried as first told during two separate calls to two 'O' reps that HTC were going to have to fix the problem and that would be down TO ME!!!! cheek of it.
Anyway. Orange came up trumps in the end so am not here to knock them as they've been more than good to me in the past.
Anyway, am now off to play with the camera and see what gives.
Glad you like the site and thanks

Problems with BT performace. Is there a fix?

My brother just got a Tilt and he's having problems with his BT. He says, he can't even walk 5ft away from the headset without hearing static and interfereance. He believes it's a problem with the BT stack. Can this be replaced or modified for better performace?
BTW, I think he's using Dutty's 2nd to last touch ROM with radio 1.27.14.09
having the same problems with 2 tilts. Just got another phone and the same issues keep popping up. I cannot even use the BT with the phone on my hip! A butload of crackling, and interference. Makes any use of BT pointless, as it has more or less become line of sight use only (like IR).
This is my first post on here, but have been lurking for a little while. I have yet to do any mods to either phone (and gave the 1st one back), as I was hesitant to tweak a locked ATT phone, until I knew it didn't have any bugs.
I have to wonder if it has anything to do with ATT's bloatware, as every single HTC I've ever had, seems to have perfect BT reception, all the way out to the max range of BT. (35+ Ft)
forgot to mention, after testing various BT devices, and identical headsets, I can comfortably say that it MUST be a tilt specific issue. Maybe there's an HTC patch for it...... I will look around.
My BT on the HTC WWE rom is the same, in my car it takes about 2-3 sec.s to connect to the builtin bluetoothunit when some calls me up?
The phone and car are paired and everything - I have have never used a HTC branded WM smartphonephone/PDA with such a bad BT Stack.

Orbit2 or HTC Touch Cruise P3650?

Is eny different between this two phone? I read that have many problems with orbit2, is the same with Touch cruise, same problems? Now i have o2 orbit and thinking to buy orbit2 or cruise, but i m little sceptical, becouse of problems..
Thanke you!
Nobody knows?
Is any test between these to phones on net?
Thanks!
IMHO the o2 has a better form factor...it's more rounded...
but other than that, i'm pretty sure its 100% the same exact hardware on the inside...and as a touch cruise owner, i can tell you it's a lag ridden slow ass POS..return it while u still can, cause drivers aren't coming any time soon

Don't take that for gospel. I have owned many PPC's going back to 2000 and i can tell you from my experience, the TC performs just fine in day-to-day operation. As a matter of fact, it performs much better than my last 2 devices, a Treo 750 and the KJAM.
1. Wi-Fi
2. BT
3. Front earphone
4. Radio
5. Bad painting
6. Shutting down suddenly
Are these problems have only orbit2 or both?

I have no such "problems" with my TC. However, if you want to nitpick, the FM antenna is not very strong so there can be interference if used in a place like a metropolitan city.
Other than that, I have not had any problems.
4.) bad painting
all the time...all you have to do is be viewing a web site in whatever browser and press the phone key. Depending on what other applications you have open, and how much ram you are using, it can take up to 1-5 seconds to fully "paint" the dialpad on the screen, piece by piece.
If you are scrolling through anything, lets say the programs menu, or a website, the screen flickers, and lags.
I can remember back about 15 years ago, to my first desktop PC...it was a pentium 133 MHZ, with an ATI 3d card that had 8MB of ram I believe, and it ran windows 3.11 for workgroups, and then windows 95.
Lets just say even that comp (if it were still put together) could out do the touch cruise graphics wise.
As for the other problems you are describing, I have not had any issues with those. For the most part, it's just the graphics \ user interface stuff and lack of proper video drivers.
The actual radio hardware is fine.
If i were you, I would wait until all the issues are worked out before you spend alot of money on a handheld..unless you really need it. I'm actually thinking of selling my touch cruise and getting an Atom V.
both are same inside, but i'm on my 3rd O2 Orbit 2 due to cosmetics, i get the feeling the new 'stylised' case for the Orbit 2 is rushed, as all 3 have gaps, off centre screen and now my 3rd one the GPS plug keeps falling out! lol
i'd go for the original 'design' as most complaints i've heard have been about O2 version - BUT just cosmetics, not hardware.
i really can't be bothered to send this back, but will think twice about what i upgrade to next :/
or a website, the screen flickers, and lags.

If you're using PIE, there is a fix for that. After applying the fix, scrolling is just fine.
I also have no scrolling issues using Netfront 3.5.
cosmetics i agree with that.
if you look in the accessories thread, there are multiple posts about the top screen being crooked and not glued onto the other screen, hearing snap backs when tapping on or around the corners.
Also I agree that the micro-sd hatch is very poorly designed, also along with the GPS plug.
Just a thought, that keeps recurring though my mind...why didn't they put more time and thought into these devices, when they cost upwards of $1000.
Unless of course, they made it this way, cosmetics and software, purposely...
But that's just me...there are some people who don't seem to have a problem with the way this device performs.
I think though, that I'm being over critical, because all of the previous HTC devices I have used, have never had problems that have even come close to this, and also, they didn't cost nearly as much. I just expected so much more from the TC.

On the TC
1) Wi-fi is fine
2) Only used BT to transfer files between laptop and phone, works fine.
3) No problem with earphone
4) not sure, the actual radio ROM (reception, etc) or FM Radio. 1st one is fine, 2nd one reception can suck.
5) Sux donkey balls. See the post about dialer skin lag. very true.
6) Never happened.
The device is fine overall with day to day use. but sometimes stuff just won't freakin work or will lag. every once in awhile my GPS will take forever to lock or when it does it will be off by a bit. sometimes windows live mail won't send/receive when i want it to. other times i feel the device just can't handle multiple things at the same time. opening audio manager when you have several hundred music files takes about 5-10 secs. then when listening to music while typing an sms, you will feel some lag while typing as opposed to typing with no music playing.
I have an Orbit 2 ...build wise its fantastic. Before I bought it, I was going to buy the iphone, the salesman in the O2 shop gave me a demo on the iphone's rigidity and build quality, he held the iphone flat in his palm with the screen up and slammed it down hard onto a wooden desk from a height of approx 1 metre....it looked very impressive...when I got my Orbit 2 I did the same.....not even a scratch....
Also thought I would comment on BT issues..since I failed to mention it in my previous post
Handsfree works great.
I have a handsfree system in my automobile, and I have a motorola HS850 as well.
No problems whatsoever.
Also, activesync works great over BT, so does internet sharing using the PAN.
File transfer takes a long time, but that is to be expected, since BT data transfer rates aren't as good as USB.
A2DP however, sucks the big one.
I've tried 5 different a2dp devices\headsets...
It's all lag ridden, staticy at times, and sometiems it just plain stops and skips for 5-20 seconds.
It seems like whenever you use a2dp it lags the whole friggen device as well..
I emailed HTC about this and their response was less than helpful.
They gave me a bunch of a2dp headset models that they have "tested"
and then told me that just because they were tested doesn't mean they are fully functional without issues.
I tried to tell them that it wasn't the headsets and it was the device itself, but they didn't seem to listen to what I had to say.
Never tried a2dp, but i don't have a hard time seeing this happening with this device. just the kind of thing to be expected. and i wanted to have stereo bluetooth to listen to music, etc. is it really that bad? guess i won't be trying that.
as far as build quality, it's good so far. except the loose volume switch on the side that rattles. kinda lame there. i've heard of the orbit2 jog dials falling off. there's another thread about that somewhere.

I'm one of the ones not having a problem with my TC. I agree the web using ie is slow but is also on every other wm device I've had. So I use opera mini.
Upwards of $1000?? Where the hell are you buying it anyway? That's a bit exagerated isn't it? I concur tho that phones are getting more and more expensive and the quality of build is not equal to cost. Actually my gf's t-mo go phone cost $40 and is seemingly indestructable.

You seem to have a lot of complaints. However, I can tell you that I have experienced no such lags as you mention using A2DP. I use a Moto S9 when I work out at the gym and no problems at all. I can even surf the web while using A2DP using Opera Mini or Mobile without issue. Keep in mind that I push multi-tasking on my devices.
I will say however, that using the S9's with the TC in NYC is crappy due to the weakness of the BT signal. I used to have the same issue with my Treo 750 using WM5 then when I upgraded to WM6 the issue seemed to lessen enough to the point where I didn't quite mind the "occasional" skip.

Did they up the ram? Because 64mb is unaceptable. Causes freeze-ups and shut downs. Gotta have 128mb minimum.

Hm..I don't get it..
I tried those and they had the same problems as all the other ones I tried.
I tried them in my house, working out, airports, planes...no matter where i went they were the same. I dunno man :-\ I am having alot of bad luck lately...
And also, to comment about the price thing...the Sedna costs 1000 and the touch cruise is currently going for 700-800...I paid 850 for mine but i got it after one of the first shipments to the wholesaler. This is in the US though...I've heard these same exact phones cost like $50 in hong kong. Dunno if it's true but...search google checkout for the HTC Sedna, and see how much they cost.
$50 for a Cruise in HK??? no way. link?

Yea, surgex0, you might wanna do some investigation, b/c A2DP works perfectly for me also. No skipping, great quality, and I can multitask w/o a real slowdown in performance. I've used it with my Samsung A2DP headphones, my Sony A2DP input/output adapter for my home stereo, and random A2DP demo products in stores. No issues here... Maybe try other headphones, or if you are on a custom rom try the original rom.

Bluetooth telephone "handset"

[moved from Off Topic board]
OK.
First off, hello everyone! First time poster, so be nice!
I have already tried to find this on google, on the forums, and in all sorts of other places, but putting in the criteria "bluetooth" and "handset" returned all sorts of crap....
Anyway, I am hopefully soon to be acquiring an XDA Flint / HTC Athena. Which as far as I'm concerned.... is a big phone. One that I'd rather not hold to my head all day.
I do have a bluetooth headset already, but I find that using it has several distinct disadvantages;
When I am shopping on the phone - people think I am talking to myself, and therefore mad
When I am outside, the other party can't hear a word, because of the wind
Add that to the fact that I would like to at least appear a little normal, I decided to see if there was a telephone handset (such as the good 'ol Nokia 3310) with all the innards removed, and had just been converted into a bluetooth "handset" with just a microphone and speaker for me to connect to the HTC.
I have already found something similar - but slightly impractical - in the form of this, of which there is a bluetooth version on the interweb.
Anyway - can anyone help?
Am I bringing up a long forgotten thread about this question that has already been asked?
Many thanks,
success
OK..
I found the solution utterly by accident.
If anyone is interested, I went for (and about just about to collect it from the post office) the LG Style-i bluetooth handset
*crossing fingers!!!*
