I ordered an MDA compact from a German site-mobilejoker.de last week and haven't heard anything at all from them since then.
I just learned today that christmas holidays in Germany continue until 10th of January 2005.
Does this mean that mobilejoker won't be at work until then?
Yo???
Hi,
well... I am German, but I live in the US... anyhow... I've never heard of anything like that... the holidays (New Years) are usually over on the 2nd, some businesses stay closed longer though... because New Year fell onto a Saturday this year, it could very well be that some businesses take a general vacation until the next week, which would indeed be the 10th.

In south Germany there is a religious holiday on the 6th and this being a Thursday a lot of company takes Friday also off. This might be an explanation.

I don't think the Atom is released yet to the general public. I've read it should be available mid December...can't wait to hear how it performs.

FYI, atom is released in singapore today. I am expecting advertisements to be out in full force tomorrow. So much for the hyped-up limited sets released. Just in case anyone is interested, the price is SGD$1348 retail.
It is out in HK now and I saw Expansys has already posted it on the official website. But it sells RMB 6240, which is equivlent to USD 780 per unit. It is wayyyyyy expansive. Does anyone know where can I get it with much cheaper price? Chinese version will be a plus.
Jerry
Some O2 Atom images which I took here
sorry for the blur image as i dun have a good camera with me at that time
I tested it for a day and discovered that it's more laggy than Exec, there seems to have alot of issues on Atom too read here
www.clove.uk.uk £388.92 inc vat no bundles
www.devicewire.co.uk £374.99 inc vat
www.handteck.co.uk £373.64 inc vat and £440.61 with tomtom europe
www.powerupmobile.com £369.95 inc vat
I much prefer to get my device with an atractive bundle e.g europe maps, car charger etc
any comments???
I haven't got a clue mate. I was looking at Expansys but I haven't used any of them before so I don't know who is the best in terms delivery, after sales etc.
I'm looking for some recommendations as well.
i had ok xp with Expansys
if their price is right i would prob get it from them
expanys do a bundle with europe maps at £464.99 but it doesn't come out until February plus is the most expensive one around
They seem a bit more expensive than some but if their service is good I might consider them.
Mobile Planet for purchase - what GPS software?
I have pre-ordered mine from Mobile-Planet. (Expansys in the USA) Of course being a newbie, you get a not so hot price but that is a sacrifice to being first. I have heard that the first USA order is arriving in Manchester England on Dec. 14th and 700 of them will be in the USA on Dec. 16th-ish.
I do have a question. I have heard that these phones come with the TomTom software for the GPS. Is that a standard software package in all of the HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris phones? Or, is this something that I have to upgrade to? Or, can I use my own 3rd party app once I get the phone?
Let me know what some of you are doing.
Here in the UK the cruise comes without GPS maps but some places they have a bundle already installed tom tom with a DVD of europe maps and car charger. and maybe a car holder
your question is very good because I was considering buying tom tom separetely if its workout to be cheaper but my findings tell me that a bundle is the cheapest option.
regarding which sofware to buy, I have no experience with GPS software but tom tom seem to be the most popular.
can anyone make comments on tomtom, copilot, mamopolis, etc???? please

I personally have two Garmin GPS's. (Garmin CSx60 & C550 - North America) I can tell you that the Garmin maps, on average, are about 1-2 years out of date. Magellan seems to be about the same and TomTom also. I do know that TomTom is now advertising more frequent updates and better logic behind the routing. (Whether its true or not is unknown) There has also been major bids from Garmin and a few other companies to purchase the mapping software companies. (NavTeq and TeleAtlas) So, to answer your question, I think Garmin has the best logic for routing. TomTom has the best maps. They do get all the maps from the two mappings companies though.
If you want to get into the details, GPSPassion.com or GPSReview.com should be able to assist you.
Good luck and let me know if you find anything useful -

I gave them a call before hand and spoke to a chap there called Richard very helpful. He said he would get an updated delivery date and call me back. He did and followed up with an Email. The delivery date is 10th Dec to them and i will have it the 12th Dec.
the price im gonna pay is £388.93 + postage £6.46 total= £395.39
The money doesnt come off my card until its shipped also i havnt used them before now but on them getting back to me etc i went with them. As for expansys they usually have the goods but they also charge a lot for so-so service.

HTC typically ships GPS enabled phones with a 'Teaser' version of the Nav software which allows you to download one city map for free. After that, you need to pay. I installed a thirp party nav software. My pre-release Cruise arrived with no nav software at all.
Tom Tom are selling maps with 50% off at the moment http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/index.php?Lid=1
Don't know if the version is ok for the Cruise but worth a look

I've just chatted with the nice chap at smart devices and they've just been notified by HTC that they wont be receiving stock until the 18th Jan now.
Seems like this wont be anybodys xmas toy after all
I hope it will be in o2 on contract at the end of jan. (i need to renew contract anyway) it's a shame is not available yet.
In Germany, known as O2-Xda Orbit 2 is officially available (here) since beginning of this month (1-12-2007). Yet the dealer is unable to provide me this at the moment, however, it would be available by next week.
About maps, Orbit 2 also comes with COMPLETE maps for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plus ALL main European roads, all in a very reasonable price package, so seems like an ideal solution for me!
exspansys
Me and my brother ordered one each today, £389.95 - tomtom of one city, but thats not a problem as have copilot that came with my orbit, also the date is now Jan 18th
Im going to wait for the UK o2 release of the polaris, the orbit2, looks real sexy much better than the square htc version.
I've just requested a pre-order from Expansys and I have an availability to ship of January 21st.
I guess it's taking longer and longer. I might as well start looking for a slim hard case for this. Anyone know if there is one for a brand new product?
I don't think there is any case for the cruise just yet but keep us inform if you find one
Why is the polaris available in europe, yet no sign of it in the UK?
most annoying

UK Availability ... from the US
It seems that On The Go Solutions are happy to ship to the UK, and they just told me they have a large batch of Cruises that are expected to clear customs tomorrow. I've ordered one - and with Fedex International Express delivery it should, if all goes well, be with me some time next week.
I'll be letting you know whether all goes well.
Jim
how much of a pain is it to fill out the international order form?
how did you send them the pdf ?
Filling in the International Order Form was not especially tedious:
1) Download as PDF.
2) Open the file, Edit->SelectAll, Edit->Copy
3) Open MS Word, Edit->Paste, then tidy up the formatting a bit
4) Paste in images of the various things they wanted images of (passport back page, credit card, signature)
5) Email the document back to them. Had to mess with the image sizes a bit, as their email gateway rejects anything bigger than 3 Mbytes.
All in all, it's probably easier to print the document, fill it in and fax it back to them - but as it happened I did not have a photocopier and a fax conveniently nearby yesterday evening.
I will let you know what happens next (and here's hoping that what happens next is the prompt arrival of a shiny new Cruise!)
Jim
thanks for the prompt response!
On The Go Solutions have just dispatched 'my' Cruise via Fedex to the UK.
Usual next step should be that I get a call from the local FedEx office at UK customs, asking for a duty/VAT payment (which can be paid by credit/debit card over the phone).
I've never really understood how they figure out the duty - it seems to depend on whether they decide the goods are stationery, electric equipment, computers, agricultural machinery, ... . Personally I think the Cruise is lovely enough to qualify as a 'work of art', but I don't suppose the Customs people will agree. Anyhow, I expect to end up having to pay about 20% (17.5% VAT and 2.5% duty).
Jim
Delivered (from On The Go) today
It has arrived - so I can confirm that getting On The Go to ship to the UK seems to work just fine.
Jim
Nice. So all n all how much was it? did you get a call from customs or..?
cheers.
i see onthego have bumped the price up now
At $879 i dont think its worth it
I think that the price was $749 or $769 just a few days ago.
Hi everyone and happy new year!
I think we just have to be patient. As everybody on this forum, I cannot wait to get this baby, but I will hold fire for another 3-4 weeks.
I contacted O2 and Orange regarding availability. Orange are looking early Feb, but will have more info next week. O2 will have stock middle of Jan, so if you're not desperate, the future is orange... or blue... or even purple?
Cheers
The networks are, probably, delaying its release which is annoying for me.
Wow I cant believe that onthegosolutions would do that but it is true. Talk about price gauging. There is no way people are going to pay nearly $900 dollars when you can just wait two or three weeks and get it for under $700.
Happy to say, I placed my order when On The Go were still showing $749 on their web-site, and they have honored that price. $879 does look pretty steep! Oh the joys of capitalism !
Anyhow, the whole process of getting the thing into the UK went pretty smoothly (note: it's a good idea to phone FedEx once they've collected the package, and make sure they have a contact phone number. If they don't have a number to call you on, then the package will just sit waiting in customs until you call them).
The Cruise they sent me has a silver fascia/button panel. It looks pretty smart.
I have just been trying out HSDPA connectivity, and got 382 kbit/sec (on T-Mobile, in central London). The combination of Google Maps and in-built GPS is also good (particularly if your sense of direction is as poor as mine!).
Jim
Has anyone spoken to T-Mobile? I know they re-branded the HTC 3300 so maybe the Polaris is one they'll pick up too. I just also looked at their UK web site and under the "Coming Soon" section it mentions: "T-Mobile Touch Plus - This great touch-screen phone allows for intuitive browsing through messages, emails and music. - Expected January - on: Pay monthly". No picture so difficult to tell if it is the Touch Cruise although it sounds like it could well be.
I also noticed a few sites (e.g. expansys) now quoting Jan 18 as the availability date for the generic HTC unit so I'm hoping that I'll be able to have one in my hands within 3 weeks although if T-Mobile are also releasing it in January then I might do some arithmetic and see if I want to upgrade to a monthly contract and get the phone that way.
T-Mobile did cripple the 3300 didn't they by disabling WiFi on the UK model? Let's hope they're not stupid enough to do that again if they are picking up the Polaris.
- Julian
T-Mobile Touch Plus
I spoke a little while ago to a guy in the T-Mobile shop in Oxford Street (London), who generally knows what's what with the T-Mobile range. He told me that the T-Mobile MDA Touch Plus is the HTC Touch Dual. He wasn't aware of any near-term plan to provide the Cruise as a T-Mobile branded handset.
So at that point I opted to take the cash alternative rather than a 'free' handset - and spent the cash on buying the phone of my dreams .
Jim
Touch Cruise availabe next week.
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news3771.html
I have Firefox tabs permanently open on most of the UK supplier's Touch Cruise (TC) pages and I refresh them occassionally. I just saw that Expansys and PowerUpMobile changed their stock-due dates from 18th Jan to 21st Jan.
It's also interesting because, for anyone who doesn't know, there's another thread running here (entitled "Angry against HTC") that is reporting a delay until week 9 on HTC TC shipments. I assume that Expansys and PowerUpMobile changed their stock-due dates because of updated info from HTC (why else would they change the dates?) so it's interesting that they only did a 3 day slip and not all the way back to week 9.
I'm not sure what all this means but I just thought I'd report it.

Hi all!
I am heading off to Europe from August to December, covering most of West and Central, and partially East.
What I want to know is; Are there any good/great tech shows/conventions (Gadgets, phones, computers, PDAs etc) from August 2008 to December 2008.
I plan on visiting CERN headquarters, the Microsoft Research labs and a few other tech places while I am over there as well.
Any suggestions on either tech shows or interesting tech places to visit?
Thanks!
EDIT: Sorry I meant shows, not shoes, lol, first time on a keyboard hehe Have fixed the heading now.
lol i thought you were talking about some boots with mobile phones.
Any idea anyone?
